  • what architecture to use with asp.net mvc vd web forms

    please explain how to get high capacity architectures with both the default asp.net web forms and mvc models with regard to being able to serve millions of page views. i want to know how to set up each model from DB clustering, to caching, logical/ physical tiers, load balancing iis servers, scaling out or up, session state management and so on... is one more scalable than the other? thanks all.

  • c# Windows Service not appearing in services list after install

    I've created a windows service in c#, using Visual Studio 2008 I pretty much followed this: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/dotnet/simplewindowsservice.aspx I created a setup project, as instructed to in the article, and ran it... it installs my service to c:\program files\product etc.... however, it does not then appear in the services list.. What am i missing?

I am using the "MSF for Agile... v4.2" template as the base template and would like to set the version control settings of the "Project Management" document library todo the following: Major Versions : Enabled Documents must be checked our before they can be edited I'm using the editor GUI provided by the tfs powertools, however it does not appear these settings are available. Is it possible to define these settings in the WssTasks.XML file or do I need to approach this from a different angle.

  • Unicenter Software Delivery 4 not able to connect to MS SQL 2000 Database after W2003 SP2 upgrade

    Hello Everyone Yesterday I installed the Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 on a Windows Server 2003 which has Unicenter Software Delivery 4 installed. Prior to the installation I disabled every CA service on the server (Brightstor, SDO , RCO, TNG) and the MS SQL 2000 service. After the installation of the SP2 I enabled the services again but the Unicenter Service is not able to connect to the MS SQL 2000 Database anymore. The database itself is up and running and I can connect to it with the Enterprise Manager. A dbcc checkdb doesnt return any errors on the Unicenter database.     Can Castle ActiveRecord do optimistic locking on properties? I found optimistic locking for the entire class, but not for an individual property. In my case, I need to make it so that adding/removing elements in a collection does not update the version number of the entity (so for example, adding a Product to a Store without changing any of Store's properties will not increment the version number).

    In my application, I want to stream videos shot on an iPhone, *.movie files, from a server running on a Mac desktop to an iPhone or iPad client. What are some possible open source servers that do this that are small enough to be shipped or embedded with a downloadable Mac app? There is a product StreamToMe by Matt Gallagher that does this. I noticed a lot of open source alternatives like ffmpeg, VideoLan, and the like but I not sure which one would be good for the Mac.

    I've been looking at implementing the new VerificationController to verify in-App-Purchases: http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#releasenotes/StoreKit/IAP_ReceiptValidation/_index.html And I wonder if there is some example anywhere en how to validate a transaction, since it seems that the - (BOOL)verifyPurchase:(SKPaymentTransaction *)transaction; is not enough and it has to be implemented internally to verify the purchase when the data form the server is received. Another question is if anyone has a clue on what the KNOWN_TRANSACTIONS_KEY is and how to fill it, is it just the product id of the purchase?

  • SQL Server stored procedures - update column based on variable name..?

    Hi, I have a data driven site with many stored procedures. What I want to eventually be able to do is to say something like: For Each @variable in sproc inputs UPDATE @TableName SET @variable.toString = @variable Next I would like it to be able to accept any number of arguments. It will basically loop through all of the inputs and update the column with the name of the variable with the value of the variable - for example column "Name" would be updated with the value of @Name. I would like to basically have one stored procedure for updating and one for creating. However to do this I will need to be able to convert the actual name of a variable, not the value, to a string. Question 1: Is it possible to do this in T-SQL, and if so how? Question 2: Are there any major drawbacks to using something like this (like performance or CPU usage)? I know if a value is not valid then it will only prevent the update involving that variable and any subsequent ones, but all the data is validated in the vb.net code anyway so will always be valid on submitting to the database, and I will ensure that only variables where the column exists are able to be submitted. Many thanks in advance, Regards, Richard Clarke Edit: I know about using SQL strings and the risk of SQL injection attacks - I studied this a bit in my dissertation a few weeks ago. Basically the website uses an object oriented architecture. There are many classes - for example Product - which have many "Attributes" (I created my own class called Attribute, which has properties such as DataField, Name and Value where DataField is used to get or update data, Name is displayed on the administration frontend when creating or updating a Product and the Value, which may be displayed on the customer frontend, is set by the administrator. DataField is the field I will be using in the "UPDATE Blah SET @Field = @Value". I know this is probably confusing but its really complicated to explain - I have a really good understanding of the entire system in my head but I cant put it into words easily. Basically the structure is set up such that no user will be able to change the value of DataField or Name, but they can change Value. I think if I were to use dynamic parameterised SQL strings there will therefore be no risk of SQL injection attacks. I mean basically loop through all the attributes so that it ends up like: UPDATE Products SET [Name] = '@Name', Description = '@Description', Display = @Display Then loop through all the attributes again and add the parameter values - this will have the same effect as using stored procedures, right?? I dont mind adding to the page load time since this is mainly going to affect the administration frontend, and will marginly affect the customer frontend.

    I am new to LINQ and am trying to convert a SQL query to LINQ: SQL: left outer join PRODUCT_BEST_USE pbu on pbu.PRODUCT_GUID = @uProductId and pbu.BEST_USE_GUID = bu.BEST_USE_GUID LINQ: from PBU in PRODUCT_BEST_USE.Where(PBU=>PBU.PRODUCT_GUID == p.PRODUCT_GUID).DefaultIfEmpty() When I add and PBU.BEST_USE_GUID equals BU.BEST_USE_GUID, I get an error: "A query body must end with a select clause or a group clause" Here is the full Linq query: from p in PRODUCT join BU in BEST_USE on p.CATEGORY_GUID equals BU.CATEGORY_GUID from PBU in PRODUCT_BEST_USE.Where(PBU=>PBU.PRODUCT_GUID == p.PRODUCT_GUID).DefaultIfEmpty() and PBU.BEST_USE_GUID equals BU.BEST_USE_GUID where p.PRODUCT_GUID == new Guid("d317752b-581d-4f43-92fa-4a4af91009f5") select new { BU.NAME, PBU.PRODUCT_BEST_USE_GUID }

  • Consuming Web Services requiring Authentication from behind Proxy server

    Hi All, I've seen a number of post about Proxy Authentication, but none that seams to address this problem. I'm building a SharePoint Web Service consuming desktop application, using Java, JAX-WS in NetBeans. I have a working prototype, that can query the server for authentication mode, successfully authenticate and retrieve a list of web site. However, if I run the same app from a network that is behind a proxy server (the proxy does not require authentication), then I'm running into trouble. The normal -dhttp.proxyHost ... settings does not seam to help any. But I have found that by creating a ProxySelector class and setting it as default, I can regain access to the authentication web service, but I still can't retrieve the list of web sites from the SharePoint server. It's almost as if the authentication I provide is going to the proxy rather than the SharePoint server. Anyone have any experience on how to make this work?   • MVVM/WPF: Using a ObservableCollection<T> as a list in a domain model, is that good/bad ?

    I have aggregated models like Customer:Order:Product. As my View is bound to the BillingViewModel which has a Property Customers of type ObservableCollection and ONE customer in this collection has a "list" of orders named ObservableCollection and ONE order in this collection has a "list" of products named ObservableCollection Well I need the ObservableCollection`s for databinding but should a domain model really have a ObservableCollection ? normally it has a List or IEnumerable ! Is this bad habit or having side effects?
