  • Best practices for custom http user-agent strings?

    I'm developing an application that communicates with an internal web service using HTTP. Are there any "best practices" for custom user-agent strings so that I can put a nice one in my app? It's a Python library and the lower transport is Python's own httplib. Should the user-agent string say that or something else?

  • Silverlight P2P App (In Browser) - Will we get RTMFP?

    Ok so from all my research I'm fairly positive P2P is not possible in Silverlight 4 (in browser). Flash can do P2P using Stratus/RTMFP which I believe uses UDP hole punching and a Stratus server to help initialize the connection. Is there any plans for Microsoft to add some kind of p2p rendezvous service in the future? Can we get a definitive yes/no on whether or not p2p is possible in SL4.

  • How are distributed services better than distributed objects?

    I am not interested in the technology e.g. CORBA vs Web Services, I am interested in principles. When we are doing OOP, why should we have something so procedural at higher level? Is not it the same as with OOP and relational databases? Often services are supported through code generation, apart from boilerplate, I think it is because we new SOM - service object mapper. So again, what are the reasons for wervices rather than objects?

  • html5 video secure streaming?

    Does html5 allow me to do secure streaming video? And by this, I mean token authentication. I want to be able to stream media only to those people who are authorised to view it. I can do this currently with Flash Media Server hosted by Akamai - they have a custom mechanism where I send them a token as part of the player connection handshake. Does html5 allow for this, and has anyone implemented this with a hosting service such as Akamai? Thanks Matt

    Hi, I'm developing a REST Web Service using a XML format response and I have some problems (Really, one problem). One of my resources has some final fields so once they're created, they can't be modified. According to that, I need different representations for this resource depending on what I'm doing: Creating or modifiying it. What should I do, give to the user different XML-Schemas for the same resource or write just one XML-Schema and read some fields or not depending on the method I'm being requested?? Thanks

  • AutoCompleteExtender not working for WebService hosted on IIS 7

    I have a web service file in my project having a web method which is used for AutoCompleteExtender and which works fine when I debug it from VS. But when I publish and host it on IIS, it's not working properly. However, I tested the webservice method directly by typing the URL and it gave the desired output. Is their a special setting needs to be done in IIS to make it working or any property of AutoCompleteExtender need to be set?

I'm asking with relation to Prism where I'm trying to replace Unity with Prism, and I see Prism-classes relying on IServiceLocator. Could someone please clarify the role of the interface and when it is used? And also; what is the Common Service Locator, and will this be helpful when working with IServiceLocator?

    I have an AppEngine application that uses the blobstore to store user-provided image data. When I upload images to that application from a form in Chrome it works fine. When I try to upload an image from an Android application it fails. Both methods work fine if I am running against the development server, but the Android upload doesn't work against the live service. Each page is assigned a unique hash value (ie, http://domain.com/index.php#products). Changing the navigation/page design isn't an option. Will these service preserve the hash value (both embed JS on the page)? If they don't, what are some alternative solutions?

  • List of objects sent over WCF, but null list received?

    Hey there, I have an object containing a list of custom objects which I am returning over a response in WCF, however on the receiving end, the list is null? But it contains 112 objects just prior to stepping out of the service on the server. This wasn't always the case, I have seen it return a list. I've just recently upgraded it to use NET TCP bindings, but I can't confirm when I started losing the data or if it was since the conversion from wsHttpBinding to netTcpBinding as it moved along with about four other services. I have looked on the WCF Service messages and trace file and also the WCF client's messages and trace file, no exceptions reported, and both message logs indicate they are sending the List<T> and for client, receiving the list - very frustrating! It's not a super light array, but not huge either, around 100KB. it has about 12 properties each and as stated 112 items are being sent. I have tried everything I can think of on client and server, note: Client: this.binding = new NetTcpBinding(SecurityMode.None) { MaxReceivedMessageSize = int.MaxValue, ReaderQuotas = { MaxStringContentLength = int.MaxValue, MaxArrayLength = int.MaxValue } }; ... Server app.config (sorry I have no idea if the quota settings have any bearing on net tcp? Ok, It seems I have bigger problems. Because the list was the only thing I was sending, I thought it was an array issue. I am even setting an int to "25" and it's coming back as 0 - Anybody? I know I must have done something obviously stupid.

  • Svcutil generating bad config with multiple endpoints

    I have a WCF service that has exposed a soap and an xml endpoint. When I use svcutil to generate the proxy code on the client side the generated configuration contains two endpoints which causes the client to fail. If I edit the web.config file and remove the second endpoint (with the custom binding) all works as expected. Is there a way I can get svcutil to generate a config that just works so that I don't need to hand edit the file everytime? My first idea was to put a the BurrowFramework().InitWorkSpace(); in each method and set the InstanceContextMode to per Call on these methods. Now I have two questions: Are there better methods to combine Nh.Burrow with WCF? Is there a way to create and use a Long Burrow Conversation with WCF? Regards, Jochen
