  I have come across many situations where I had to build a system for a library or a clinic or other popular domains. The thing is a domain model for a library was probably done 1000 times already with different level of details of course. Here is an example. Is there a popular website or community where one can find ready made domain models for popular systems? The whole purpose I'm trying to achieve is to quickly get a grasp of the domain I'm modeling and customize it to my needs. Re-inventing the wheel seems really absurd when the same system might have been modeled properly previously. Note I know Google might sound like the perfect source, but there is a repository out there that people can post there models, so that others can share them.

Am using C# to read the excel and and insert the records One more thing which is best approach: Read excel first and store every record as an object in a collection, then iterate through the collection, apply business rules on every object and then insert record in the database Or Read one record from excel apply business rule and then insert record in the database.   Windows previews are ugly on my computer. Is there any solution to make them smooth? BTW windows previews in Metacity with compositing enabled (/apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager) are looking much better than in Compiz. I am using the open source radeon driver, so I can't configure my videocard preferences via AMD's GUI, and I've tried all options like a texture filter, bicubic filter or mipmapping I found in ccsm with no result. How to make windows previews in Compiz be as smooth as they are in Metacity? And sorry, my English sucks just like these windows thumbnails in Compiz.

• Blurry vertical sections using fglrx with Radeon hd 6970

  So I managed to get fglrx working by downloading the drivers from ATI because the ones from additional drivers boot to a black screen and the open source dont let me change resolution. My one issue is that half of my monitor is fine and the other half is blurry almost as if there's a blurry vertical stripe on the right side. I tried disabling Compiz and have the same issue in both gnome and kde, I was wondering if theres an xorg.conf change that could be made to fix this as I have already set the resolution and refresh rates to the correct values.

• How can I wipe my iPod classic and fix any bad sectors on the hard drive without killing it?

  My iPod never finishes syncing and only syncs audio, not pictures or video - any ideas as to how I can fix it? My iPod classic 160GB worked well for a couple of years. I used to sync a lot of photos at full resolution to it, but this recently stopped working after I moved to Windows 7. iTunes is on latest version - 9.1.1.12 iPod software is up to date - 1.1.2 Windows 7 is fully up to date and patched The symptoms are that the iPod will start to sync, all audio (music and podcasts will sync successfully) but the syncing will then just appear to continue - itunes message: Syncing iPod. Do not Disconnect. This sync never completes - I have left it trying for days. I have tried resetting the iPod using the Restore button, whereupon it restarts sync from default options and again will sync audio, but nothing else. I suspect that something has gone wrong on the hard-drive - either a bad sector or some corrupt data. Is there a process I can go through to fix this? E.g. SpinRite or a format? If so how do I go about formatting an iPod and will it be recognised as an iPod after format and work as normal? Any advice on what to try next much appreciated? Update I have eliminated problems with the files, PC or iTunes as they sync fine to other iPods. I have also eliminated the cable by trying different cables which work with other iPods. What I'd really like to know is if there is any way to more fundamentally wipe the iPod safely, attempt to repair any bad sectors on the hard drive and then start from scratch. Anyone ever managed this?

This happened right after visiting the following website and installing an audio browser application to upload voice samples for the creation of an open-source speech recognition program: http://www.voxforge.org/home/read I do not know if that is what caused the problem, but audio stopped working around the same time I installed this web application. When I type in the terminal pulseaudio -D I get the following: E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Daemon startup failed. I tried the following next: sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio sudo apt-get install pulseaudio When I type 'pulseaudio' at the command prompt, I get: E: [pulseaudio] pid.c: Daemon already running. E: [pulseaudio] main.c: pa_pid_file_create() failed.

• Macbook Pro 8,2 Graphics switching - Ubuntu 12.04

  I've been reading docs and various pages for a few hours now and can't seem to put all of the pieces together on this. Basically I am trying to get 12.04 installed on my MBP 8,2 with graphics card switching working in some way or another. My basic understanding is that I need to do an EFI boot install of ubuntu so that graphics card switching will work (due to the hardware design). From there I may be able to use one of the kernel modules for graphics switching: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HybridGraphics That article isn't clear on whether I need to do an EFI install. I have also seen comments in posts here that say and EFI install works by default as long as you have refit installed. Overall, I'm quite lost as to the simplest way to proceed to get an install up and running with graphics switching. I don't mind using open source GFX drivers as long as the basics work. Any help towards a solution is greatly appreciated.

• How to fix a bootable USB Kubuntu installation when the drive has maxed out?

  I used Universal-USB-Installer-v1.5.1 from PenDriveLinux.com with Kubuntu 10.04 so I could set up my 4GB flash drive as a totally independent installation. Unfortunately, there was an OS upgrade available which Kubuntu downloaded and attempted to install. This, along with some other software, apparently maxed out my drive before I realized it. Now when I try to boot from the drive, everything boots as normal to the OS boot screen where I select "Boot from this Kubuntu USB Installation." The startup process initiates, then stalls about halfway through and hangs indefinitely. I'm guessing the drive is trying to use space it doesn't have and completely stops working. I realize that once the OS upgrade is in place, the old files could be deleted for a potential 700MB space gain. However, I just have no way to get into the OS and complete the upgrade. My main OS is Windows 7. Is there a way I can fix this issue from within Windows without formatting the entire drive and reinstalling Kubuntu from scratch?

• How to open semicolon delimited CSV-files in US-version of Excel

  When I double-click on a .csv file, it is opened in Excel. The csv-files have columns delimited with semicolons (not commas, but also a valid format). Using a German Windows/Excel setup, the opened file is displayed correctly, the columns are separated where the semicolons existed in the csv-file. But when I do the same on an (US-) English Windows/Excel setup, only one column is imported, showing the whole data including the semicolons in the first column. (I don't have an English setup available for tests, users have reported the behavior) I tried to change the list separator value in Windows regional settings, but that didn't change anything. What can I do to be able to double-click-open those CSV-files on an English setup? EDIT: It seems to be the best solution not to rely on CSV-files in this case. I was hoping that there is some formatting for CSV-files that makes it possible to use them internationally. The best solution seems that I'll switch to creating XLS-files. Thanks to all for your suggestions and helpful tips!

• GNOME Shell Overview animation is slow on my NVIDIA 320M

  I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 on my MacBook Air 11" (late 2010 model 3,1). Compiz runs fine, as well as most of GNOME Shell's animations. The animation for switching to and from GNOME Shell overview is just very slow. Unfortunately, it's the most common animation on Shell. • Problems creating a debdiff

  I'm following this guide to create a debdiff for a package I'm patching. Everything goes fine until step number 8 and I attempt to create the debdiff after committing the changes. The package in question is Zim, pulled form Launchpad using bzr branch lp:zim and according to this guide I should execute the following command to create the debdiff: debdiff zim_0.49.dsc zim_0.49ubuntu1.dsc > zim_0.49ubuntu1.debdiff however, when I actually try to execute this command, I get the following error: debdiff: fatal error at line 314: Can't read file: zim_0.49.dsc Upon inspection of the directory in which the files created from debuild -S (step 6) are deposited, I find zim_0.49ubuntu1_source.changes zim_0.49ubuntu1.dsc zim_0.49ubuntu1.tar.gz zim_0.49ubuntu1_source.build but no sign of zim_0.49.dsc. I could probably create one by debuilding the package as soon as I check out the code, before starting work, but that would add an extraneous entry in the changelog. Is there a step missing from the guide that creates zim_0.49.dsc or is the file itself missing from the source?

Something like a customized preferences settings for system wide so that everybody posses those settings and below will explain in clear what I actually ment. On every machine I will install the following: Eclipse Mysql Query Browser and Admin Mysql Workbench Oracle VirtualBox Thunderbird ----------- ----------- ----------- If I install them by apt, this will automatically create shortcuts in Applications but when I build them from source or extract the tar ball, I will have to add New Item at it's relevant place going to System-->Preferences-->Main Menu to make them available as a shortcuts and this settings are applied only for the account I login and perform them. How could I make this preferences settings for complete system wide which applies for all users? or if there is a way to apply a customized user settings to other users will also be ok. • Clipboard bug in Wordpad in Windows 7 (accidentally pasting large file into application)

  In Win7, I use Wordpad, and I really like it. For my needs it's lean and fast, yet has the formatting functionalities I'm after when working on my TXT/RTF files on a daily basis. I don't intend to change text editors. There's a really bad bug which has ALWAYS plagued me. If you have a large file contained in the clipboard, like a 238MB FLAC file, and you accidentally paste it into Wordpad for whatever reason - it hangs the application for a VERY long time (like 2 hours, it depends on how big the file is, because it tries to 'handle' it). You either have to close the application and lose any unsaved changes, or go do something else until the item has finished pasting into Wordpad (it actually eventually drops the file's icon in wordpad just like how it appears in Windows Explorer). It's a Windows bug, a Wordpad bug. Is there some solution for this? Or is the problem fixed in Windows 8 (if anyone can tell me)? .....I'm not going to try out Win8 myself, merely to answer this question - that's what I'm asking it on SuperUSer for! I'm really hoping it's one of those little-yet-big things that they've fixed in Win8 (like removing the 255-character file path limit in Explorer, which is awesome). Thank you for your help, if you have Win8 handy and can test this. :)

• Fast pixelshader 2D raytracing

  I'd like to do a simple 2D shadow calculation algorithm by rendering my environment into a texture, and then use raytracing to determine what pixels of the texture are not visible to the point light (simply handed to the shader as a vec2 position) . A simple brute force algorithm per pixel would looks like this: line_segment = line segment between current pixel of texture and light source For each pixel in the texture: { if pixel is not just empty space && pixel is on line_segment output = black else output = normal color of the pixel } This is, of course, probably not the fastest way to do it. Question is: What are faster ways to do it or what are some optimizations that can be applied to this technique?
