    One of the useful things about S3 for content storage is that a client can directly make a direct HTTP request to download the object. For instance, this is how Twitter serve up avatar images. SimpleDB provides an HTTP interface to data. Rather than having to write a proxy that sits inbetween SimpleDB and the client, is it possible for client software (i.e. desktop, mobile) to make calls to read values from a SimpleDB domain, without sharing credentials that shouldn't be shared? Or is a proxy in-between the only way to go?

    What's the best way to prevent a dictionary attack? I've thought up several implementations but they all seem to have some flaw in them: Lock out a user after X failed login attempts. Problem: easy to turn into a denial of service attack, locking out many users in a short amount of time. Incrementally increase response time per failed login attempt on a username. Problem: dictionary attacks might use the same password but different usernames. Incrementally increase response time per failed login attempt from an IP address. Problem: easy to get around by spoofing IP address. Incrementally increase response time per failed login attempt within a session. Problem: easy to get around by creating a dictionary attack that fires up a new session on each attempt.

  • Infinite queue for build while TFS Preview publishing on Azure Cloud Service

    I've created Cloud Service and linked TFS Preview Project for CI deployments. I've chosen Manual mode for triggering the builds. The previously queued builds were successfully completed and deployed. And the website based on this Cloud Service was running fine. Waiting in the queue was no more than 3-5 seconds. Now when I click - "Queue New Build" - the new build item is created in the queue but it never runs. I can successfully Publish project onto Azure Cloud service from VS2012 though. What could be the most common reasons for this?

    Hi I have enabled mod_rewrite in my Xampp apache. When I run my php info page, I saw mod_rewrite under Loaded Modules. So I think it's enabled. Then I create a folder clean-url under htdocs. Inside clean-url folder I have 3 files 1) index.php here I put Welcome 2) Test. php 3) .htaccess Here I put RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^([a-z]+)/([a-z-]+)$ /$1/$2.php [L] I want to run the index page, and by clicking on that hyper link I want to display the test.php page with URL mydomain/clean-url/test I know I am in a wrong path. Does any one help me? Or correct me? ALso i don't know any idea about url rewriting and .htaccess. Please help me.

    Hi all, i have two webapps.. that share ASP.Net membership tables. Everything works fine except i cannot remove case-sensitivity in one of the apps the way i am doing it in the other. in the non-working app void Login1_LoggingIn(object sender, LoginCancelEventArgs e) { string username = Login1.UserName.Trim(); if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(username)) { MembershipUser user = Membership.GetUser(username); if (user != null) { // Only adjust the UserName if the password is correct. Converted at the time the membership user is created! So if the password is PASSWORD, typing PASSWORD allows me to authenticate. but typing password does not! Even though i can see the string being sent is PASSWORD (converted with toUpper()). I am at a complete loss on this.. in the other app i can type in lower or upper or mixed and i am able to authenticate. In the other app i am not using the textboxes from the login control though.. not sure if this is making the difference??

    If I try: Groups = students.Remove(f => f.StudentID.Equals(studentID)); I get an error on this line: f => f.StudentID.Equals(studentID) I am having difficulty from my previous posts here linq deleted users still associated with groups and here Delete method in WCF So I thought maybe I could delete the students contained within groups but I get an error Cannot convert lamda expression to type Student because it is not a delegate type.

  • enabling tomcat web apps to be served from Ubuntu lucid

    Hi, I have tomcat running on 8080 on a ubuntu lucid server. I am able to access it fro local machine. However I am unable to access the tomcat from any machine outside. Is it due to firewall restrictions. WHat do I need to do to enable accessing tomcat from remote machines. Tried adding this rule to iptables but it did not solve iptables --table nat --append PREROUTING --protocol tcp --destination-port 80 \ --in-interface eth0 --jump REDIRECT --to-port 8080 Any help would be appreciated Thanks Bala Thiruppanambakkam

  • Get Highest Res Favicon

    I'm making a website that needs to dynamically obtain the favicon of sites upon request. I've found a few api's that can accomplish this fairly well, and so far I'm liking http://www.fvicon.com/. The final image for my website will be 64x64px, and some websites such as Google and Wordpress have nice images of this size that are easily retrieved via this api. Though, of course, most websites only have a 16x16 favicon image and scaling that image to 64x64 has very bad quality loss. Examples: (high res) http://a.fvicon.com/wordpress.com?format=png&width=64&height=64 (low res) http://a.fvicon.com/yahoo.com?format=png&width=64&height=64 Keeping this in mind, I'm planning on somehow determining whether a high-res image is available and, if so, the website will use this image. If not, I want to use a pre-made 64x64 icon with the smaller icon layered over it. What I'm having trouble with is determining if there is a high res favicon available or not. Also, I'm curious if there's a better approach to this situation. I'd rather not use smaller images (64x64 works out really well for this project). The lowest res I'm willing to drop to is 48x48 but even then there will be a significant quality loss for scaling up 16x16 favicons. Any ideas?     Hello, I am using the Amazon product Advertising API to fetch the product categories. For US categories it is working. But using browse nodes from different sites I get the following error: "569604 is not a valid value for BrowseNodeId. Please change this value and retry your request."     Sites lite faary.com wufoo.com/and theformsite.com help you building forms But the output tables that being created are password protected as far as i know. Are there sites/scripts like the above which can make the output visible to all ? Something like a "guest book" script/form that you can edit the fields and the output will show immediately ?     Hi, I googled this many times but now I have to ask it here. I want to make a workflow for a website for Developpement/Production. My constraint is that I use Facebook Connect (Facebook Graph now) so I need to have the dev and prod on the same domain and server. (to be able to log in and test the features) I thought I will edit the CodeIgniter Index.php to redirect if I have a specific user agent (I can edit the one of my firefox) You think it's a good Idea or you have a better one ? And now comes the eternal question : how can I deploy this the easy way ? should I use Capistrano or Phing ? or simply a script with SVN ? Please help me, I'm totally new to this Deployment thing. I used to work directly in production for my little websites or on other domains. but now it's not possible anymore.
