    Hello, I am planning to use Auto reset Event Handle for Inter Thread communication. EventWaitHandle handle = new EventWaitHandle(false, EventResetMode.AutoReset); My producer thread code look like below produceSomething(); handle.Set(); In the consumer thread, I have to download data for every one minute or when prodcuer is called Set method try { while(true) { handle.WaitOne(60000, false); doSomething(); - downloads data from internet. takes lot of time to complete it. } } catch(ThreadAbortException) { cleanup(); } My question is if consumer thread is running doSomething funtion and producer calls set function, what would be state of Auto reset event object? My requreiment is as soon as producer calls set method i have to downlaod fresh data from intenet . If doSomething function is running, when Producer calls set method, i have to interrupt it and call again. Any help is appreciated. Regards Raju

    Trying to firgure out how to test the security of a WebService. Is there some way to search a site for webservices? I have 2 applications one has a webservice and the other a reference to that service. I let visual studio build the reference in the App_WebReferences folder. The webservice works, but i started wondering, can anyone access this service from any website? If so, how can i test this? How do you search a site for webservices? Could I use jQuery/JSON code from a simple site to access a webservice? I guess if it is not secure, how do you secure a webservice?

  • ASP.Net: Finding the cause of OutOfMemoryExpcetions

    I trying to track down the cause of an OutOfMemory for a website. This site has ~12,000 .aspx pages and the last time it crashed I captured a memory dump using adplus. After some investigation I found a lot of heap fragmentation, there are around 100MB of Free blocks which can't be assigned. Digging deeper one of the Large Object Heaps is fragmented and the causes seems to be String interning as described [here][1] Could this be caused by the number of pages in the site? As they are all compiled they sit in memory and by looking at the dump they are interned and PINNED which I think means they stick around for a while. I would find this odd as there are many sites with more pages, but dynamic compilation could account for the growth in memory. What other methods are there for finding the cause of the memory leak?     I am beginning to think I am doing something wrong. I mean they did place System.String.IsNullOrWhitespace finally but no ArgumentEmptyException class. public FilterItem(string name, IEnumerable<string> extensions) { if (string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(name)) { throw new ArgumentNullException("name"); } if (extensions == null) { throw new ArgumentNullException("extensions"); } if (extensions.Count() == 0) { throw new ArgumentOutOfRangeException("extensions"); } this.Name = name; this.Extensions = extensions; } throwing an ArgumentOutOfRangeException feels unnatural. Also an instance of ArgumentException is too general in my opinion. It's easy to me to create a new exception class call it this way and have it over with. What bugs me is that it's not in the BCL/FCL and I am beginning to think there's a good reason not to have it. Should there be one?

If the queue reaches a specific size all threads that are filling the queue will be blocked on add until an item is removed from the queue.     I apologize for such a question that likely has a trivial solution, but I strangely could not find a concise API for this problem. Essentially, I would like to truncate a string such that it its length is not longer than a given value. I am writing to a database table and want to ensure that the values I write meet the constraint of the column's datatype. For instance, it would be nice if I could write the following: string NormalizeLength(string value, int maxLength) { return value.Substring(0, maxLength); } Unfortunately, this raises an exception because maxLength exceeds the string boundaries. Of course, I could write a function like the following, but I was hoping that something like this already exists. string NormalizeLength(string value, int maxLength) { return value.Length <= maxLength ? value : value.Substring(0, maxLength); } Where is the elusive API that performs this task? Is there one?

  • Screen information while Windows system is locked (.NET)

    We have a nightly process that updates applications on a user's pc, and that requires bringing the application down and back up again (not looking to get into changing that process). The problem is that we are building a Windows AppBar on launch which requires a valid screen, and when the system is locked there isn't one in the Screen class. So none of the visual effects are enabled and it shows up real ugly. The only way we currently have around this is to detect a locked screen and just spin and wait until the user unlocks the desktop, then continue launching. Leaving it down isn't an option, as this is a key part of our user's workflow, and they expect it to be up and running if they left it that way the night before. Any ideas?? I can't seem to find the display information anywhere, but it has to be stored off someplace, since the user is still logged in.     Hello, I am fairly new to MVC, but after playing with it (MVC 3/Razor), I am hooked. I have a few questions: 1) What is the best, or most widely used pattern to develop MVC apps in? Repository, DDD, UOW? 2) I am using the Entity Framework 4, so could some please explain to me or point me to a good source that will explain the Repository Pattern w/EF4? Doesn't EF4 take place as the business layer and the data access layer? Does the Repository Pattern even provide a benefit? 3) Also, one last question, could someone explain the whole relationship between the Controller, the Model and the View? I get the basics, but maybe a little more in depth of the correct way to use it. View Models - Say I have a view that displays customer info, and one that edits it, should I have a view model and an edit model, or can the be passed around? 4) Examples?? Is there an easier way in to test a controller? I've looked at the TestControllerBuilder from MvcContrib which helps with some of the issues but doesn't seem to do everything. Is there anything else available that will do the job and will let me concentrate on writing the tests rather than writing mocks? Thanks

    I'm attempting to implement a repository pattern with my poco objects auto generated from my edmx. In my repository class, I have: IObjectSet<E> _objectSet; private IObjectSet<E> objectSet { get { if (_objectSet == null) { _objectSet = this._context.CreateObjectSet<E>(); } return _objectSet; } } public IQueryable<E> GetQuery(Func<E, bool> where) { return objectSet.Where(where).AsQueryable<E>(); } public IList<E> SelectAll(Func<E, bool> where) { return GetQuery(where).ToList(); } Where E is the one of my POCO classes. When I trace the database and run this: IList<Contact> c = contactRepository.SelectAll(r => r.emailAddress == "[email protected]"); It shows up in the sql trace as a select for everything in my Contact table. Where am I going wrong here? Is there a better way to do this? Does an objectset not lazy load... so it omitted the where clause?
