• Why can't I reference child entities with part of the parent entities composite key

  I am trying to reference some child entities with part of the parents composite key not all of it, why cant I? This happens when I use the following mapping instead of that which is commented. • NHibernate won't persist DateTime SqlDateTime overflow

  I am working on an ASP.NET MVC project with NHibernate as the backend and am having some trouble getting some dates to write back to my SQL Server database tables. These date fields are NOT nullable, so the many answers here about how to setup nullable datetimes have not helped. Basically when I try to save the entity which has a DateAdded and a LastUpdated fields, I am getting a SqlDateTime overflow exception. I have had a similar problem in the past where I was trying to write a datetime field into a smalldatetime column, updating the type on the column appeared to fix the problem. My gut feeling is that its going to be some problem with the table definition or some type of incompatible data types, and the overflow exception is a bit of a bum steer. I have attached an example of the table definition and the query that NHibernate is trying to run, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. • Exposing model object using bindings in custom NSCell of NSTableView

  I am struggling trying to perform what I would think would be a relatively common task. I have an NSTableView that is bound to it's array via an NSArrayController. The array controller has it's content set to an NSMutableArray that contains one or more NSObject instances of a model class. What I don't know how to do is expose the model inside the NSCell subclass in a way that is bindings friendly. For the purpose of illustration, we'll say that the object model is a person consisting of a first name, last name, age and gender. Thus the model would appear something like this: @interface PersonModel : NSObject { NSString * firstName; NSString * lastName; NSString * gender; int * age; } Obviously the appropriate setters, getters init etc for the class. In my controller class I define an NSTableView, NSMutableArray and an NSArrayController: @interface ControllerClass : NSObject { IBOutlet NSTableView * myTableView; NSMutableArray * myPersonArray; IBOutlet NSArrayController * myPersonArrayController; } Using Interface Builder I can easily bind the model to the appropriate columns: myPersonArray --> myPersonArrayController --> table column binding This works fine. So I remove the extra columns, leaving one column hidden that is bound to the NSArrayController (this creates and keeps the association between each row and the NSArrayController) so that I am down to one visible column in my NSTableView and one hidden column. I create an NSCell subclass and put the appropriate drawing method to create the cell. In my awakeFromNib I establish the custom NSCell subclass: PersonModel * aCustomCell = [[[PersonModel alloc] init] autorelease]; [[myTableView tableColumnWithIdentifier:@"customCellColumn"] setDataCell:aCustomCell]; This, too, works fine from a drawing perspective. I get my custom cell showing up in the column and it repeats for every managed object in my array controller. If I add an object or remove an object from the array controller the table updates accordingly. However... I was under the impression that my PersonModel object would be available from within my NSCell subclass. But I don't know how to get to it. I don't want to set each NSCell using setters and getters because then I'm breaking the whole model concept by storing data in the NSCell instead of referencing it from the array controller. And yes I do need to have a custom NSCell, so having multiple columns is not an option. Where to from here? In addition to the Google and StackOverflow search, I've done the obligatory walk through on Apple's docs and don't seem to have found the answer. I have found a lot of references that beat around the bush but nothing involving an NSArrayController. The controller makes life very easy when binding to other elements of the model entity (such as a master/detail scenario). I have also found a lot of references (although no answers) when using Core Data, but Im not using Core Data. As per the norm, I'm very grateful for any assistance that can be offered!

• Oracle data warehouse design - fact table acting as a dimension?

  THANKS: Both answers here are very helpful, but I could only pick one. I really appreciate the advice! our datawarehouse will be used more for workflow reports than traditional analytical reports. Our users care about "current picture" far more than history. (though history matters, too.) We are a government entity that does not have costs or related calculations. Mostly just counts of people within given locations and with related history. We are using Oracle, and I have found distinct advantage in using the star join whenever possible and would like to rearchitect everything to as closely resemble the star schema as is reasonable for our business uses. Speed in this DW is vital, and a number of tests have already proven the star schema approach to me. Our "person" table is key - it contains over 4 million records and will be the most frequently used source in queries. It can be seen at the center of a star with multiple dimensions (like age, gender, affiliation, location, etc.). It is a very LONG table, particularly when I join it to the address and contact information. However, it is more like a dimension table when we start looking at history. For example, there are two different history tables that have a person key pointing to the person table. One has over 20 million records and the other has almost 50 million and grows daily. Is this table a fact table or a dimension table? Can one work as both? If so, is that going to be a big performance problem? Is it common to query more off of a dimension than a fact? What happens if a DIFFERENT fact table that uses the person table as a dimension is actually only 60,000 records (much smaller.). I think my problem is that our data and use of it does not fit with the commonly use examples of star schemas. CLARIFICATION: Some good thoughts have been added below, but perhaps I left too much out to really explain well. Here's some more info: We handle a voter database. We don't have any measures except voter counts by various groups: voter counts by party, by age, by location; voter counts by ballot type and election, by ballot status and election, etc. We do have a "voting history" log as well as an activity audit log (change of address, party, etc.). We have information on which voters are election workers and all that related information. I figure I'll get to the peripheral stuff later. For now I'm focusing on our two major "business processes": voter registration(which IS a voter.) and election turnout. In the first, voter is a fact. In the second, voter is a dimension, along with party, election, and type of ballot. (and in case anyone is worried - no we don't know HOW people vote. Just that they do. LOL ) I hope that clarifies things a bit.

• How to use multiple instances of a usercontrol (with jquery) on the same page

  Hi All, I've been working on an usercontrol with a jquery timer in it. At first I had the jquery within the usercontrol. But when I add 2 of those controls to my page the second usercontrol isn't showing it's data very well. Now I've put the jquery into the mainpage and the usercontrol only uses the id's of the jquery.   Android Development Query Hello, I wonder if anyone could help me, i am trying to save an image (jpg or png) from the res/raw or assets folder to the SD card location (/sdcard/DCIM/). I have been following a tutorial which can save an image from a URL to the SD card Root, but i have looked everywhere to be able to save from res/raw or asset folder instead, and to a differnet location onthe sd card /sdcard/DCIM/ Here is the code, can anyone show me how to do the above from this? • Wordpress add_meta_box() weirdness

  The code below is working nearly flawlessly, however my value for page title on one of my pages keeps coming up empty after a few page refreshes... It sticks for awhile, then it appears to reset to empty. I'm thinking I must have a conflict in the code below, but I can't quite figure it. I'm allowing the user to set a custom page title for posts as well as pages via a custom "post/page title input field). • Is JQuery UI meant to work only with Google Chrome??? (How about IE and Firefox??!)

  Hello, I'm using "Jquery UI 1./Dan Wellman/Packt Publishing" to learn JQuery UI. I'm working on the 'Dialog widget' chapiter. After I've completed a series of exercises in order to build a Dialog widget (using Google Chrome), I then tried my work with Internet Explorer and Firefox. The result has been disappointing. Chrome was perfet With Internet Explorer, (1) the title of the Dialog widget did not appear, (2) The location of the dialog widget was not correct (given the position: ["center", "center"]). It was rather offset toward left. With Firefox, the location was respected. However, only the outer container was visible. the content was missing, just a blank container. Also using Option Show:true and Hide:true did only work with Chrome. I wonder now if JQuery UI was meant to be used only with Google Chrome. I just think that I might be missing some directives to make it work with major browsers (as the author claimed in his book). Here's the code. Currently I am using Atomikos for transactions and C3P0 for connection pooling. Despite my best efforts my DAO integration one of the tests is failing with org.hibernate.NonUniqueObjectException. In the failing test I create an object with the "new" operator, set the ID and call persist on it. @Test @Transactional public void save_UserTestDataNewObject_RecordSetOneLarger() { int expectedNumberRecords = 4; User newUser = createNewUser(); dao.persist(newUser); List<User> allUsers = dao.findAll(0, 1000); assertEquals(expectedNumberRecords, allUsers.size()); } In the previous testmethod I do the same thing (createNewUser() is a helper method that creates an object with the same ID everytime). I am sure that creating and persisting a second object with the same Id is the cause, but each test method is in own transaction and the object I created is bound to a private test method variable. I can even see in the logs that Spring Test and Atomikos are rolling back the transaction associated with each test method. I would have thought the rollback would have also cleared the persistence context too. On a hunch, I added an a call to dao.clear() at the beginning of the faulty test method and the problem went away!! So rollback doesn't clear the persistence context??? If not, then who does?? • MVC keeping the PartialView in its own context - ignore the main view holding the partial view

  I'm looking at the partialview components of the MVC Framework. i want my partial view to be handled in its own action and for the rest of the view to handle itself, but i'm getting an exception because the main page is not getting its view fired. Am i going around this the wrong way? Rather then having all the form submitting code in the main action for the view. am i do this wrong?

  The basic idea of binary search in an array is simple, but it might return an "approximate" index if the search fails to find the exact item. (we might sometimes get back an index for which the value is larger or smaller than the searched value). For looking for the exact insertion point, it seems that after we got the approximate location, we might need to "scan" to left or right for the exact insertion location, so that, say, in Ruby, we can do arr.insert(exact_index, value) I have the following solution, but the handling for the part when begin_index >= end_index is a bit messy. I wonder if a more elegant solution can be used? (this solution doesn't care to scan for multiple matches if an exact match is found, so the index returned for an exact match may point to any index that correspond to the value... but I think if they are all integers, we can always search for a - 1 after we know an exact match is found, to find the left boundary, or search for a + 1 for the right boundary.)   I will be brief and stick to what I know. This code for the most part works as it should. The only issue is in the iteration of the x and z loop. these to loops should set the range and yLABEL for the Y loop. I can get through a set and come up with the correct range after that things go bonkers. I know some of it has to do with not breaking out of x to set z and then back to x update the range. It should work z is found then x. the range between them is set for y. then next x but y stays then rang between y and x is set for y.. so on and so forth kinda like a slinky down the stairs. or a slide rule depending on how I set the loops either way I end up all over the place after a couple iterations. I have done a few things but each time I break out of x to set z , X restarts at the top of the range. At least that's what I think I am seeing. In the example sheet i have since changed the way the way the offset works with the loop but the idea is still the same. I have goto statements at this time i was going to try figuring out conditional switches after the loops were working. Any help direction or advice is appreciated. • PHP: Writing non-english characters to XML - encoding problem

  Hello, I wrote a small PHP script to edit the site news XML file. I used DOM to manipulate the XML (Loading, writing, editing). It works fine when writing English characters, but when non-English characters are written, PHP throws an error when trying to load the file. If I manually type non-English characters into the file - it's loaded perfectly fine, but if PHP writes the non-English characters the encoding goes wrong, although I specified the utf-8 encoding. Any help is appreciated.
