• Looking for a 'pick a-or-b' voting system script

  Apologies: this is my first time on stackoverflow and I'm starting with a question and seeking advice. Sorry. Caveats: I know HTML and CSS pretty well. Javascript and PHP are not completely alien, but I'm really pretty basic on those. That said, I'm pretty sharp and willing to search for explanations independently. Ok, so my question is this: I want to create a site with a voting system very much like the one on kittenwar.com - the page loads 2 random images from a db of some sort and you click on the one you want to 'win'. Ranked pairs kind of deal. Then there is a leaderboard of those images which have the highest win-loss ratio. There also needs to be an uploader for peeps to upload their own images and have them go into an approval workflow, and from there into the db that feeds the voting thing. I tried a pre-made solution ('photo battle') but found it was completely standalone, so trying to integrate it or change any of the options was a nightmare, plus it was buggy. i'm sure there has to be a relatively easy way to do this, right? Ideally I'd like to build my site in Joomla and integrate this functionality somehow. I'd be very grateful for any advice on this. Thanks Tom

• How can I shared controller logic in ASP.NET MVC for 2 controllers, where they are overriden

  Hello, I am trying to implement user-friendly URLS, while keeping the existing routes, and was able to do so using the ActionName tag on top of my controller (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/436866/can-you-overload-controller-methods-in-asp-net-mvc) I have 2 controllers: ActionName("UserFriendlyProjectIndex")] public ActionResult Index(string projectName) { ... } public ActionResult Index(long id) { ... } Basically, what I am trying to do is I store the user-friendly URL in the database for each project. If the user enters the URL /Project/TopSecretProject/, the action UserFriendlyProjectIndex gets called. I do a database lookup and if everything checks out, I want to apply the exact same logic that is used in the Index action. I am basically trying to avoid writing duplicate code. I know I can separate the common logic into another method, but I wanted to see if there is a built-in way of doing this in ASP.NET MVC. Any suggestions?   Hello everybody, I am developing a small software in C# WPF for a consultancy which does chain system business. I have coded tree structure to show who referred whom. Now it has commission depending on level. If 1 referred 2 & 3 then 1 will get level-1 commission. If 2 referred 4, 5 & 3 referred 6, 7 then 1 will receive level-2 commission. This chain will go on to certain total number. My problem is how I would implement this logic; I am able to calculate who has referred how many members via UDF written for adding TreeViewItem to TreeView. Or tell me how I can count items in treeview in certain level? • Partioning with Hibernate

  Hello, We have a requirement to delete data in the range of 200K from database everyday. Our application is Java/JEE based using Oracle DB and Hibernate ORM tool. We explored various options like Hibernate batch processing Stored procedure Database partitioning Our DBA suggests database partitioning is the best way to go, so we can easily recreate and drop the partitioned table everyday. Now the issue is we have 2 kinds of data, one which we want to delete everyday and the other which we want to keep it. Suppose this data is stored in table "Trade". Now with partitioning, we have 2 tables "Trade". We have already existing Hibernate based DAO layer to fetch/store trades from/to DB. When we decide to partition the database, how can we control the trades to go in which of the two tables through hibernate. Basically I want , the trades need to be deleted by end of the day, to go in partitioned table and the trades I want to keep, in main table. Please suggest how can this be possible with Hibernate. We may add an additional column to identify the trades to be deleted but how can we ensure these trades should go to partitioned trade table using hibernate. I would appreciate if someone can suggest any better approach in case we are on wrong path.

• Access Controller Context/ TempData from business objects

  I am trying to build a session/tempdata provider that can be swapped. The default provider will work on top of asp.net mvc and it needed to access the .net mvc TempData from the business object class. I know the tempdata is available through the controller context, but i cant seem to find if that is exposed through HttpContext or something. I dont really want to pass the Controller context as an argument as that would dilute my interface definition since only asp.net based session provider needs this, other (using NoSQL DB etc) doesn't care about Controller Context. To clarify further, adding little more code here. my ISession interface look like this. and when this code goes to production, the session/tempdata is expected to work using NoSql db. • scanf a byte then print it out?

  I've searched around to see if I can find this answer but I can't seem to (please let me know if I'm wrong). I am trying to use scanf to read in a byte, an unsigned int and a char in one .c file and I am trying to access this byte in a different .c file and print it out. (I have already checked to make sure I have included all the appropriate parameters everywhere) But I keep getting errors. • What limits scaling in this simple OpenMP program?

  I'm trying to understand limits to parallelization on a 48-core system (4xAMD Opteron 6348, 2.8 Ghz, 12 cores per CPU). I wrote this tiny OpenMP code to test the speedup in what I thought would be the best possible situation (the task is embarrassingly parallel): // Compile with: gcc scaling.c -std=c99 -fopenmp -O3 #include <stdio.h> #include <stdint.h> int main(){ const uint64_t umin=1; const uint64_t umax=10000000000LL; double sum=0.; #pragma omp parallel for reduction(+:sum) for(uint64_t u=umin; u<umax; u++) sum+=1./u/u; printf("%e\n", sum); } I was surprised to find that the scaling is highly nonlinear. It takes about 2.9s for the code to run with 48 threads, 3.1s with 36 threads, 3.7s with 24 threads, 4.9s with 12 threads, and 57s for the code to run with 1 thread. Unfortunately I have to say that there is one process running on the computer using 100% of one core, so that might be affecting it. It's not my process, so I can't end it to test the difference, but somehow I doubt that's making the difference between a 19~20x speedup and the ideal 48x speedup. To make sure it wasn't an OpenMP issue, I ran two copies of the program at the same time with 24 threads each (one with umin=1, umax=5000000000, and the other with umin=5000000000, umax=10000000000). In that case both copies of the program finish after 2.9s, so it's exactly the same as running 48 threads with a single instance of the program. What's preventing linear scaling with this simple program?

• Apache console accesses network drives, service does not?

  I have an apache 2.2 server running Django. We have a network drive T: which we need constant access to within our Django app. When running Apache as a service, we cannot access this drive, as far as any django code is concerned the drive does not exist. If I add... <Directory "t:/"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow,deny allow from all </Directory> to the httpd.conf file the service no longer runs, but I can start apache as a console and it works fine, Django can find the network drive and all is well. Why is there a difference between the console and the service? Should there be a difference? I have the service using my own log on so in theory it should have the same access as I do. I'm keen to keep it running as a service as it's far less obtrusive when I'm working on the server (unless there's a way to hide the console?). Any help would be most appreciated.

• Entity Framework + MySQL - Why is the performance so terrible?

  When I decided to use an OR/M (Entity Framework for MySQL this time) for my new project I was hoping it would save me time, but I seem to have failed it (for the second time now). Take this simple SQL Query SELECT * FROM POST ORDER BY addedOn DESC LIMIT 0, 50 It executes and gives me results in less than a second as it should (the table has about 60,000 rows). Here's the equivalent LINQ To Entities query that I wrote for this var q = (from p in db.post orderby p.addedOn descending select p).Take(50); var q1 = q.ToList(); //This is where the query is fetched and timed out But this query never even executes it times out ALWAYS (without orderby it takes 5 seconds to run)! My timeout is set to 12 seconds so you can imagine it is taking much more than that. Why is this happening? Is there a way I can see what is the actual SQL Query that Entity Framework is sending to the db? Should I give up on EF+MySQL and move to standard SQL before I lose all eternity trying to make it work? I've recalibrated my indexes, tried eager loading (which actually makes it fail even without the orderby clause) Please help, I am about to give up OR/M for MySQL as a lost cause.

  I have HTML that looks something like this: <div class='textbox' data-title='Sometitle'> <div class='textareaedit'> <p><strong>Test sample text</strong></p> </div> </div> I'm sometimes going to have a few different <p> tags inside the textareaedit divs, and sometimes strong tags around the text inside the <p> (as in this example), and sometimes a span tag, and sometimes it's going to be without further tags inside the <p>. I want to iterate through each textbox on my page, grab its title and also the text nested inside <p> tags in textareaedit. I'm giving the output via console for testing. This is my jQuery code, but I get no output for the second console.log() line: $('.textbox').each(function() { $this = $(this); console.log($this.attr('data-title')+ ":\n"); $this.children('textareadit').children('p').each(function(){ console.log($(this).html()); // not giving any output, it's blank }); }); I tried $(this).text() as well, but no difference. You may think this example has the sample text inside <strong> tags within the <p>, but I've also tried the same example without the strong, where the text was the direct child of <p>, but it didn't make a difference.   I looked around and decided to use a CSS approach rather than rely on JS... I figure the kind of corporate users stuck with IE6 might also have JS disabled by IT departments. I commented out all the rest of the page so it is literally that one and still no luck. I removed the default.css stylesheet and still no difference. EDIT: I now got it working, using the .htc method, loading that file in a conditional IE6 test block. It turned out the problem I was having was that Windows 7 had 'locked' the file (I don't even know what this means) and this blocked IE from loading/using it.

I switched away from mysqli_real_escape_string as it does not escape % and _. However, when I create my query as a mysqli prepared statement, the same flaw is still present. The query pulls a users salt value based on their username. I'd do something similar for passwords and other lookups. Where as a counterpart of this function for select statement works well. • Problem in getting response from server in jquery

• Make Trac use a Drupal user database for authentication

  I am trying to set up a Trac instance as a complement to a Drupal site and would like to give users the possibility to use their Drupal account in Trac, too, ideally in a single sign-on fashion (if the user is already logged into Drupal, he is automatically logged into Trac). The question now is how to accomplish this. I have found a plugin named DrupalIntegration which seems to implement that functionality; however, it is poorly documented - in fact, not documented at all. I managed to install it, but don't know how to configure it. Here is what I came up with from looking at the source code and the documentation of the AccountManager plugin (on which DrupalIntegration depends): [components] trac.web.auth.loginmodule = disabled acct_mgr.api = enabled acct_mgr.web_ui.LoginModule = enabled acct_mgr.web_ui.RegistrationModule = disabled TracDrupalIntegration.DrupalIntegration = enabled [account-manager] drupal_database = mysql://<usernam>:<password>@localhost/<db> password_store = DrupalIntegration (<username>, <password> and <db> are naturally substituted with the correct data). While the Trac log says: 2010-12-18 10:54:09,570 Trac[loader] DEBUG: Loading TracDrupalIntegration from /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/TracDrupalIntegration-0.1-py2.5.egg this doesn't seem to work: trying to log in with a Drupal username / password results in an "Invalid username or password" error. Has someone used the DrupalIntegration and can point out to me what I did wrong? Or is there any other approach you know (or even have used in the past) to integrate Drupal and Trac that way?

• DOM manipulation in PHP

  Hello everyone, Im trying to use the DOM in PHP to do a pretty specific job and Ive got no luck so far, the objective is to take a string of HTML from a Wordpress blog post (from the DB, this is a wordpress plugin). And then out of that HTML replace <div id="do_not_edit">old content</div>" with <div id="do_not_edit">new content</div>" in its place. Saving anything above and below that div in its structure. Then save the HTML back into the DB, should be simple really, I have read that a regex wouldnt be the right way to go here so Ive turned to the DOM instead. The problem is I just cant get it to work, cant extract the div or anything. Help me!! • Dynamically add data stored in php to nested json

  I am trying to dynamicaly generate data in json for jQuery gantt chart. I know PHP but am totally green with JavaScript. I have read dozen of solutions on how dynamicaly add data to json, and tried few dozens of combinations and nothing. Here is the json format: var data = [{ name: "Sprint 0", desc: "Analysis", values: [{ from: "/Date(1320192000000)/", to: "/Date(1322401600000)/", label: "Requirement Gathering", customClass: "ganttRed" }] },{ name: " ", desc: "Scoping", values: [{ from: "/Date(1322611200000)/", to: "/Date(1323302400000)/", label: "Scoping", customClass: "ganttRed" }] }, <!-- Somoe more data--> }]; now I have all data in php db result. I have tried without loop and replacing php variables with plain text just to check, but it did not work either. Displays chart without added items. If I add new item by adding it to the list of values, it works. So there is no problem with the Gantt itself or paths. Based on all above I assume the problem is with adding plain data to json. Can anyone please help me to fix it?

  Hi, I', trying to re-format a date from a table in Codeigniter. The Controller is for a blog. I was succesfull when the date conversion happens in the View. I was hoping to convert the date in the Model to have things in order. Here's the date conversion as it happens in the View. This is inside the posts loop: <?php foreach($records as $row) : ?> <?php $fdate = "%d <abbr>%M</abbr> %Y"; $dateConv = mdate($fdate, mysql_to_unix($row->date)); ?> <div class="article section"> <span class="date"><?php echo $dateConv ;?></span> ... Keeps going ... • Why is this Java Calendar comparison bad?

  Hello folks. I'm having an inexplicable problem with the Java Calendar class when I'm trying to compare to dates. I'm trying to compare to Calendars and determine if their difference is than 1 day, and do things bases on that difference or not. But it doesn't work. If I do this with the two dates: String currDate = aCurrentUTCCalendar.getTime().toString(); String localDate = aLocalCalendar.getTime().toString(); I get these results: currDate = "Thu Jan 06 05:58:00 MST 2010" localDate = "Tue Jan 05 00:02:00 MST 2010" This is correct. But if I do this: long curr = aCurrentUTCCalendar.getTime().getTime(); long local = aLocalCalendar.getTime().getTime(); I get these results: ( in milliseconds since the epoch ) curr = -125566110120000 local = 1262674920000 Since there is only about a 30 hour different between the two, the magnitudes are vastly different, not to mention that annoying negative sign. This causes problems if I do this: long day = 60 * 60 * 24 * 1000; // 86400000 millis, one day if( local - curr > day ) { // do something } What's wrong? Why are the getTime().toString() calls correct, but the getTime().getTime() calls are vastly different? I'm using jdk 1.6_06 on WinXP. I can't upgrade the JDK for various reasons.

  I am working with a LINQ to SQL query and have run into an issue where I have 4 optional fields to filter the data result on. By optional, I mean has the choice to enter a value or not. Specifically, a few text boxes that could have a value or have an empty string and a few drop down lists that could have had a value selected or maybe not... For example: using (TagsModelDataContext db = new TagsModelDataContext()) { var query = from tags in db.TagsHeaders where tags.CST.Equals(this.SelectedCust.CustCode.ToUpper()) && Utility.GetDate(DateTime.Parse(this.txtOrderDateFrom.Text)) <= tags.ORDDTE && Utility.GetDate(DateTime.Parse(this.txtOrderDateTo.Text)) >= tags.ORDDTE select tags; this.Results = query.ToADOTable(rec => new object[] { query }); } Now I need to add the following fields/filters, but only if they are supplied by the user. Product Number - Comes from another table that can be joined to TagsHeaders. PO Number - a field within the TagsHeaders table. Order Number - Similar to PO #, just different column. Product Status - If the user selected this from a drop down, need to apply selected value here. The query I already have is working great, but to complete the function, need to be able to add these 4 other items in the where clause, just don't know how!
