• Exchange ActiveSync does not work for one user

  One particular user in our system is unable to connect to Exchange ActiveSync via her iPhone. When I try to connect using my own credentials on her iPhone it works (everything begins syncing), but when I input her credentials, the Settings app verifies the credentials are correct but nothing syncs. For example, if I open Mail, no items are shown. When I attempt to force a sync, it says "Cannot connect to server." In Exchange 2010 Management Console the user is no different than the others. Exchange ActiveSync is set as "Enable" in Mailbox Features. EDIT: Alternatively, if there is some easy way to create a new useraccount/mailbox and copy all of the contents of the old one over, I bet it would work, and that would be fine as well. She is a Mac user so we do not have to worry about her Active Directory account.

• CentOS Vs Windows Server 2008

  Hi, Apologies if the question appears ambiguous, I have little experience in this area and was after some informed opinions. I am deploying a test scenario of a server/client network and need to make some choices for Server. The client will be a Windows system as it meets the requirements for the client, the server choice has more room for selection. From my experience with Linux in general and the appealing nature of open source for low cost, security etc and the availability and performance of database and web server programs I have been considering CentOS as a server choice. I have the ability to make most of the choices of what software / server packages I wish to install. This includes Active Directory (something I have no experience with). How well does this operate with Windows clients? Am I being too selective and creating unnecessary complication by setting out not to use a Windows Server OS?

• File permission issues after setting up an amazon ec2 instance

  I've set up an amazon ec2 instance and I'm have some file permission issues. I've created myself a new user and added myself to the following groups: adm:x:4:me,ubuntu www-data:x:33:me,www-data ssh:x:108:me admin:x:111:me ubuntu:x:1000:www-data,me me:x:1001:me but when I cd /var/www I can't do simple commands without doing sudo first. So I chmod -R www-data:www-data /var/www to ensure that I'm in the owning group but I still have to type sudo for everything. If I sudo su www-data it works fine. Since I'm in the www-data group shouldn't I have the same privilages as www-data? One strange thing I'm noticing is that when I ls -l it list the owner but not the group names. Could this possibly be part of the issue?   When I am looking at the security tab of my event viewer on a Windows Server 2008 R2, I am showing a ton of Audit Failures with Event ID 4776. The computer attempted to validate the credentials for an account. Authentication Package: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0 Logon Account: randy Source Workstation: HPDB1 Error Code: 0xc0000064 I verified the account "randy" exist in my Active Directory. From my understanding, there has not been any recent password changes. Is there any way to get detailed information on this error? I am wondering what program is requesting this information. Also, is there any way to clear this error up? I was thinking about resetting the password and changing it back to the original.

• How to Delete File stderr1 on a SAP System?

  I have a file called stderr1 in the work directory of several of the SAP servers in my production cluster. It has grown to around 19GB's to fill the hard disk on each server. I have deleted all trace files and WP files from within transaction SM50 but that hasn't deleted it (or re-named it to .old). If I try to rename or delete it manually, it says I can't because the file is in use. Please can you tell me how I can delete or shrink the stderr1 file?

• change default userid for connecting to local AFP share?

  I've got Netatalk & Avahi running on a local Ubuntu server--I use two different userids, "afp" for Time Machine and "stew" to access my media files etc. In order to mount a shared directory on my server, I have to click "Connect As..." and enter my userid/password every time, because it always tries to log in using Time Machine's userid. I'm not sure if this is because that userid is set as default, or just because it's the last userid that logged in to that server--either way: Is there a way to change the default userid for connecting to a given server? Mega extra credit: I'd love to have this automated, such that my userid, "stew", is always logged in (and heck, it'd be great to have the directories always mounted, too!) whenever the server is available. • Trouble installing Mercurial 1.5 on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (without using MacPorts)

  I'm having trouble installing Mercurial 1.5 (build 20100307) from the prebuilt installer on Mac OS X 10.5.8. The installer is halting telling me that I need to install Python 2.6 to continue. I've installed the latest version of Python (2.6.5) twice now but it's not helping. which python is reporting /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/python, but I can see that I also have 2.3 and 2.5 in /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions directory, which I suspect is being picked up by the installer ahead of the 2.6 install. If possible I'd like to install Mercurial and Python without having to resort to MacPorts, but if that is the only option then so be it :)

  I have the following folder structure on my apache! .../var/www/www.x.tt/htdocs .../var/www/www.y.tt/htdocs I have defined a virtual host for each. So if I type in www.x.tt in my browser I get to the www.x.tt site. And the same for www.y.tt. But now my question! If I type in the server address or the server host name I get to the ../var/www directory but I want that the user will be redirected to the www.x.tt site! Do I have to create a new virtual host for this problem or is it also possible only to add a .htaccess Rule?! Thanks!

• Move all images in folder to subfolder, and update all references to those images to their new location?

  I have a folder which contains a ~50 text files (PHP) and hundreds of images. I would like to move all the images to a subfolder, and update the PHP files so any reference to those images point to the new subfolder. I know I can move all the images quite easily (mv *.jpg /image, mv *.gif /image, etc...), but don't know how to go about updating all the text files - I assume a Regex has to be created to match all the images in a file, and then somehow the new directory has to be appended to the image file name? Is this best done with a shell script? Any help is appreciated (Server is Linux/CentOs5) Thanks!

• Is there a way for Windows 7 to show remaining disk space in the status bar?

  This is really driving me nuts. I do a lot of moving media files to and from USB drives, and I am constantly looking to the status bar to see how much remaining space I have on a drive. It's quick, and doesn't involve any clicking. At least, that's what I used to do using Windows XP. Is there a way to get the status bar in Windows 7 to behave in the same way? I saw in a Wikipedia article that some features have been removed from Windows 7, including these two that seem to be affecting me the most: The size of any selected item and free disk space are not shown on the status bar. When no items are selected in a folder, neither the details pane nor the status bar show the total size of files in the folder. Are there any plug-ins or registry tweaks that can be made to return this functionality? If not what is the quickest way to get the remaining space on a drive without having to click on something and leaving the directory you are working in?

The Router from bench office assigned addresses from DHCP 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 and remote gateway assigned vpn ip addresses 10.10.20.0/255.255.255.0. There is a DNS server (Active Directory Win SBS 2000) and vpn client are registered with vpn address (10.10.20.0/255.255.255.0 and domain company.com.pl). I would like to register also primary bench subnet 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 with domain for example company.vpn.local I want to access vpn hosts for example: dev3.copmany.pkb.local and dev3.company.com using my Win SBS 2000 DNS server.

• Reliable procedure/tool for removing print drivers in Windows 7 (domain environment)

  One of the troubleshooting steps in resolving printer-related issues with any version of Windows is to remove installed print drivers and then reinstall the drivers. This is a domain environment and drivers are pulled from a print server. I've had occasion to need to do this on a user's system running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. These procedures don't work: Removing the printer from Devices and Printers (doesn't remove driver obviously) Doing the above, going into Server Properties, and attempting to remove the driver (fails with a "driver in use" error) Opening an empty mmc, adding the Print Management snap-in, and attempting to do the above. Doing sc stop spooler and sc start spooler before doing both of the above Now I know it's possible to remove drivers with the spooler service stopped and then going into the spool directory, as well as deleting registry entries. I'm asking if a tool exists to do this where I can just select the driver in question and it be removed.

• Wordpress Automatic Updating/Installing Plugins Permissions

  I am using the latest Wordpress and I have always had issues with the automatic updater. For the files in the wordpress directory, i set them to permission 770, and add the webserver user 'www-data' as the group owner. I use lighttpd. However, the automatic updating plugins or installing plugins does not work. It works if I chmod 777 the files or if I set the actual owner to the web server as well. What are the best permission settings for security while still allowing the updating feature to work properly in wordress? Also, by 'not work' i mean, it will go to the screen that asks me for FTP credentials when I try to update.

  I have disk image with 2 partitions: Partition 1 has cramfs file system (read only). This partition contains all system files of the OS Partition 2 has ext3 file system. This partition has only configuration files that may be changed. How can I install GRUB1 boot loader on MBR. I tried to copy first 446 bytes of my hard disk and copy GRUB files to the /boot directory on the 1st (cramfs) partition. I cannot use grub-install because I have disk image and not disk itself. Any ideas?

• 'cp' skips some of Eclipse's dot directories

  I am trying to backup my Eclipse .metadata directory. The command I run is: cp -Rf ~/some/where/.metadata/* ~/some/backup/.metadata/. The first time I tried this, the copy skipped the lock file and the .plugins and .mylyn directories. After doing some research, I found some threads mentioning permission changes. I applied the changes and found some success. Now, running the script will not create or traverse into the .plugins or .mylyn directories. Additional research has come up with zero results. I am using: Windows XP SP 3 Cygwin 1.7.1-1

• Setting up dual monitors, Xorg.conf issues

  I just got a new computer (W520, Graphics card nVidia GF106 [Quadro 2000]) and installed ubuntu on it using wubi. I have everything working, so I wanted to set it up to be able to use two monitors with an extended screen. I figured I had to edit Xorg.conf, but the file didnt exist. So I tried to create it by booting in recovery mode, and executing Xorg -configure but I am getting these errors: (EE) Failed to load module "vmwgfx" (module does not exist, 0) (EE) vmware: Please ignore the above warnings about not being able to load module/driver vmwgfx (++) Using config file: "/root/xorg.conf.new" (==) Using system config directory "/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d" (EE) [drm] No DRICreatedPCIBusID symbol Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices. Configuration failed. ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log Any idea how I can get Xorg -configure to work, so that I can have an xorg.conf file that I can edit to enable twinview? EDIT: Another way I could ask the same question to solve this problem is, why can't I boot with an xorg.conf file generated by nvidia-xconfig? Is there something in the generated xorg.conf file that might need editing?

• Where does linux look for shared libs?

  I am trying to get the ar command on an embedded ARM computer running linux. I want to install debian and openjdk. It is a headless system. This is a custom linux distribution provided by the hardware manufacturer. The debian installer is missing the ar command so i tried copying the binaries from the debian package, but when running ar I get error while loading shared libraries: libbfd-2.18.0-multiarch.20080103.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory libbfd is also in the package. I tried linking it to /lib and /usr/lib but I get the same message when running. What is the best way to get debian and ar on a custom linux distro?

  I am trying to install Oracle Client 11.1.0.7 on a Windows Server 2008 64-bit. To some this might not be rocket science but I can't understand what the options under the install screen "Specify Home Details" mean. The defaults given suggest that I use Oracle Base and install software under my own account name. It also suggests that each user should have a separate Oracle Base. This seems counter intuitive to me. I am doing a server install after all. All I want to use the installation for is to connect to an Oracle Database from Reporting Services. Can I safely ignore this and just accept the defaults? What are the implications if I change the location to a common directory?

• Allow READ access to local folders in 2003SBS AD

  Have a SBS2003 client with a mess of a domain that is in process of being cleaned. But, for the life of me I cannot find a setting that will allow write access to the local hard disk for domain users with redirected profiles(to the server). This is needed only for one program that will not follow a symbolic link to the network path, instead it seems to be hard coded to the %appdata% folder but only on the c: drive.... So question is how can I allow "Domain users" write access to the local %appdata% directory? I have tried setting it manually on a machine but it kept resetting to RO no matter how many times I tried. Everytime I would uncheck the RO property it would reset sometime right after i hit OK. • How to combine wildcards and spaces (quotes) in an Windows command?

  I want to remove directories of the following format: C:\Program Files\FogBugz\Plugins\cache\[email protected]_NN NN is a number, so I want to use a wildcard (this is part of a post-build step in Visual Studio). The problem is that I need to combine quotes around the path name (for the space in Program Files) with a wildcard to match the end of the path. I already found out that rd is the remove command that accepts wildcards, but where do I put the quotes? I have tried no ending quote (works for dir), ...example.com*", ...example.com"*, ...example.com_??", ...cache\"[email protected]*, ...cache"\[email protected]*, but none of them work. (How many commands to remove a file/directory are there in Windows anyway? And why do they all differ in capabilities?)

• In ADUC MMC, Advanced View, how to get Attribute Editor tab on the result of a Find?

  In Win2008 MS added a new Tab on objects in ADUC. Called Attribute Editor it is like Novell Console One's Other tab, or an arbitrary LDAP editor view, or an ADSI Edit style view. Basically it shows all allowed attributes for the object class, and allows you to edit according to your permissions. You need to enable Advanced Options in the View menu before it shows up. This is great, however it only shows up when you browse the directory tree and select an object. If you use the Find tool and open an object Attribute Editor is not shown. How annoying! Especially if your domain has more than 2000 users in a single container, then you almost must use Find to get to an object. Is there any way to make the Attribute Editor tab show up after using Find to open an object?

This blogpost contains detailed instructions on installing the demo site. The demo site is based on the site http://opensourcefood.com. The demo site requires internet access because it still links to pages and resources of the real site.
