• How do you diagnose a 500 error on Heroku when there is no error message in the logs?

  I have a Rails app on Heroku that is serving 500 errors at random intervals. Web pages will display "Internal server error" in plain text, instead of the usual "We're sorry. Something went wrong." page. When I refresh the page, it works fine.   Hi, I am devolping a web application.the problem is that i am using a login control (not a .NET control) which is a part of master page and is acessible from all pages. if user log In from a page the login control updates itself and displlay some statistics of logged In user but the specific page does not reload. (some options on page are visible only to authenticated users, so that after login, page should be reloaded to display such options) after logIn methoed I wrote Reponse.Redirect(Request.Url.AbsoluteUri) after this the browser response the "Page cannot be displayed" It would be of great help to me. • ASP.Net Web Site Project - Errors Not Caught at Compile time

  For the first time in my career, I'm working on an ASP.Net (v3.5) project that has been set up as a Visual Studio 2008/10 Web Site Project. I'm not keen on this way of working this way for various reasons but for the moment and until such time as the company sees the virtue in working in an environment with namespaces, designer and project files etc., I have to continue with the existing codebase. I've run into some odd issues since I began this but perhaps the oddest one of all is that althought VS lets me build the code, it doesn't reliably pick up compilation errors so these are not noticed until runtime. I know the website model allows dynamic/hot compilation when a request is made for a specific but I can't see why it wouldn't do this when I manually (F5) build/rebuild the project. Its immensely annoying as you can imagine and I can't find a workaround. Could any StackOverflow person help with suome suggestions to make things better?

• Problem generating APN SSL certificate after submitting to apple store

  I'm having trouble getting Apple to generate an APN SSL certificate for my app ID. I've submitted the application to the Apple store, and it is pending review. I tested the application using an Ad Hoc app ID "${bundle_id}.adHoc" and everything went fine. I submitted to the Apple store with app ID "${bundle_id}.release". Now I want to generate my production APN SSL certificate for use with my release application ID - but the developer portal doesn't want to. When I upload my certificate request, it sits for about a minute before telling me: "We are not able to generate your Profile at this time. Please try again later or try using the Provisioning Portal" Is it impossible to generate your certificate while the application is under review or something? Should I have generated it prior to submission?

• How can I track a bug report in Apple’s Radar?

  Hello! There’s a feature I’d like to use on iOS. It has already been requested on Radar and people from Apple say that they will probably implement it. Is there a way to get to the particular bug report in Radar so that I can watch the progress? I know I can’t see other people’s bug reports on Radar. What if I file a duplicate bug report, will that let me know when the original bug closes? I know about Open Radar, but the request in question is not there.

  With TFS2010 using the "MSF for Agile Software Development v5" process template, I'm having some difficulty in understanding exactly what an Issue is. The most specific documentation I've been able to find is this. Is an Issue a higher-level item for which we will probably generate a Bug for after some investigation in code/requirements? Or is an Issue something different than a Bug because it has not actually a mistake in code but is more of a critical oversight in design (for example, there was never an attempt to create a datepicker for all date fields and this is a UX issue but not really a bug) and therefore a change request of sorts? Or is it something different?

• NServiceBus is blocking when hosted in ASP.NET web application

  Hello, I created a simple web application where a search form is filled out, submit button clicked, and a message is sent with the search parameters via nServiceBus. I also have a handler in the same project that picks up the message (from the same queue). For some reason, the web server process blocks until after the message is picked up, is there any reason for this? I set a breakpoint in the message handler and it breaks before the request finishes... locking the browser until I allow the code to continue. I would expect control to return to the browser regardless of when the handler gets fired... Thanks, D.Niemeyer

  Hi everybody, I’m working on a small kind of log system to a webpage, and I’m having some difficulties with a query I want to do multiple things. I have tried to do some nested / subqueries but can’t seem to get it right. I’ve two tables: User = {userid: int, username} Registered = {userid: int, favoriteid: int} What I need is a query to list all the userid’s and the usernames of each user. In addition, I also need to count the total number of favoriteid’s the user is registered with. A user who is not registered for any favorite must also be listed, but with the favorite count shown as zero. I hope that I have explained my request probably but otherwise please write back so I can elaborate. By the way, the query I’ve tried with look like this: SELECT user.userid, user.username FROM user,registered WHERE user.userid = registered.userid(SELECT COUNT(favoriteid) FROM registered) However, it doesn’t do the trick, unfortunately Kind regards Mestika

• Autoplay an Audio File on Mobile Safari

  Hey guys, I've got a little system dashboard web app that I've written, replete with alarm notifications. I've had it working for quite some time on mobile safari, but recently wanted to add audio to the alarm notifications to allow me to easily know when there are alarms and I'm not looking directly at the display. The alarm notifications are populated through a (relatively) constantly polling ajax request that pulls in and displays an alarm banner if alarms are present. I wanted to add an auto-playing 'alarm' sound as well, but no dice for Safari Mobile. I've tried using HTML5 and embedded objects with no avail. The Apple documentation does state that you can't auto-play an audio file and it must be activated through user action to conserve bandwidth. Has anyone found a way around this in a WLAN setting?

  Currently I have two pages: The first page contains an input form, and the 2nd page generates an excel document. The input form's button posts to this 2nd page. What I'd like to do is add a second button which also posts to the 2nd page; however, I'll need requests created from this new button to act differently, which brings me to my question: Is there a way I can tell, from the 2nd page, which button was pressed to submit the request? The main reason I'm asking is I'd like to re-use the 2nd page's logic in parsing the information from the first page if possible; I'd rather not have to copy it to a new page and have the new button post to that.   I have a friend that is moving a web application from one server over to another. The new server has the same settings as the first server, however, he's running into a Security issue. The Event Viewer does not point to anything specific in the web.config file or anything. The web applicaiton is on the C: drive.   I am developing an Twitter4J web application in Google App Engine/Java. I need to show two lists. One is Twitter friends and other is followers. With photo and screen name. It is working fine for people who have 20-30 followers and friends. But it gave me DeadlineExceededException when I try a user who has 150+ followers and friends. GAE throws this exception if web request take time more than 30 seconds. So what techniques I can adopt to avoid this exception. Should I generate two AJAX calls for each of my list. After page loads. So that every call will have its own 30 secs limit? Or what else you think? I am gone make it. Please help.

If I call an extension method based on a compiled query like "GetEntitiesCompiled().Count()" or "GetEntitiesCompiled().Take(x)". What does Linq2Sql do in the background? This would be very bad, so in this situation I should write a compiled query like "CountEntitiesCompiled". Does he load the result (in this case "GetEntitiesCompiled()") into the memory (mapped to the entity class like "ToList()")? So what situations make sense, when the compiled queries return IQueryable, that query is not able to modify, before request to the Sql-Server. So in my opinion I can just as good return List.   For the life of me I cannot get my google calendar xml feed to only display events within a certain date range. I know that start-min and start-max are supposed to limit the output (according to these posts: (links to posts deleted because I am a newbie and can only post one hyperlink argh) BUT I CAN'T GET IT TO WORK. It keeps showing lot of things outside the range. I created a sample calendar and made it public. It is some events the first week of april. Can anyone show me how to construct a request that only returns those three events from the first week in april? I'll GLADLY and GRATEFULLY paypal $10 to anyone who helps me break through on this. • Django, Redirecting staff from login to the admin site.

  So my site basically has 2 kinds of ways to login, one of them is for the common users, who get the regular screen that asks them for username and password, the other way its for staff. The staff login should redirect them to the admin site after logging in, but for some reason the redirect doesnt happen, it stays on the same login page. I use this condition on the login view. if user is not None and user.is_active and user.is_staff: auth.login(request,user) return HttpResponseRedirect("/admin/") The admin site its up and running in my url configuration and everything, but i dont know if this is the correct way to redirect to the admin site already on session.   We have setup our network as per the tutorial here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Upside-Down-TernetHowTo. Basically, we have a squid proxy that inverts images for pages that clients request. We're trying to modify the script so that we can edit the contents of the webpage before the webpage is sent to the client. We are not having any luck. I'm wondering if there is something different about .html files that makes this not possible. What is happening is that we do a wget on the URI that is requested, save it locally, modify it and then echo back the new URI. The page that the user gets is the unmodified page and not the one that we just changed.

  I would like to fragment cache part of a page. On the view I have <% cache("saved_area") do %> . <% end -%> In the controller: def index read_fragment("saved_area") end In config/production: config.cache_store = :file_store, File.join(RAILS_ROOT, 'tmp', 'cache') The file was created in the tmp/cache directory. But I am not sure if the cache is being used in the request, since I presume there should be a line in the log stating that the cache is being used (and there is not).
