• NHibernate Lazy="Extra"

  Is there a good explanation out there on what exactly lazy="extra" is capable of? All the posts I've seen all just repeat the fact that it turns references to MyObject.ItsCollection.Count into select count(*) queries (assuming they're not loaded already). I'd like to know if it's capable of more robust things, like turning MyObject.ItsCollection.Any(o => o.Whatever == 5) into a SELECT ...EXISTS query. Section 18.1 of the docs only touches on it. I'm not an NH developer, so I can't really experiment with it and watch SQL Profiler without doing a bit of work getting everything set up; I'm just looking for some sort of reference describing what this feature is capable of. • Excel 2003 VSTO convert to PDF

  I have an excel workbook vsto solution that needs to generate a pdf copy of one of its sheets as output. I have a license for abcdpdf .net and tried outputting to html, then using abcpdf to convert the html to pdf, but the excel html markup tries to emulate excel with all 4 worksheets with horrible markup. It also messes up the colors (silver background across entire workbook). Any suggestions? Here is the code I'm currently using to generate the html file: FileInfo excelDoc = new FileInfo(Globals.ThisWorkbook.Path + @"\Document.html"); Globals.Sheet2.SaveAs(excelDoc.FullName, Excel.XlFileFormat.xlHtml, missing, missing, false, false, Excel.XlSaveAsAccessMode.xlNoChange, missing, missing, missing); If I hack away some of the html header tags manually, I can get abcdpf to accept it, but the formatting is a bit off and this solution seems sub optimal. • What is the best practise to create MSI with some other child MSI as prerequisite?

  Currently we are using Innosetup as a bootstrapper to install the MSI prerequisites. It makes bit complex to maintain the setup. I found that burn tool which may help us to resolve this issue by having a single setup to install whatever we need. I could not find either documentation or sample for this tool. Is anyone have idea about this? or you can give me the alternate solution if you have. Looking for the alternate soltuion for the actions that we do with ISS bootstrapper now: Extract the files (Main setup, Prerequisite setup) Need to ensure prerequisites status and install on demand. • R: Creating Custom Shapes with ggplot

  Full Disclosure: This was also posted to the ggplot2 mailing list. (I'll update if I receive a response) I'm a bit lost on this one, I've tried messing around with geom_polygon but successive attempts seem worse than the previous. The image that I'm trying to recreate is this, the colours are unimportant, but the positions are: In addition to creating this, I also need to be able to label each element with text. At this point, I'm not expecting a solution (although that would be ideal) but pointers or similar examples would be immensely helpful. One option that I played with was hacking scale_shape and using 1,1 as coords. But was stuck with being able to add labels. The reason I'm doing this with ggplot, is because I'm generating scorecards on a company by company basis. This is only one plot in a 4 x 10 grid of other plots (using pushViewport) Note: The top tier of the pyramid could also be a rectangle of similar size.

• layout messed up once spinner has entries

  Hello, I have <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/LinearLayoutPlayer" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <Spinner android:id="@+id/Spinner01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_weight="100"></Spinner> <ToggleButton android:text="@+id/ToggleButton01" android:id="@+id/ToggleButton01" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_weight="1"></ToggleButton> </LinearLayout> Which displays a spinner and next to it a toggle button. Everything okay so far. Of course the spinner need some entries, so I add to the spinner the attribute: android:entries="@array/myentries" The problem now is that the toggle button is a bit lower than the spinner and the botton of the toggle button is cut off, maybe 3 or 5 lines of pixels. Anyone an idea what is wrong here? Android is version 2.2 Thanks!

• Ad/Banner Management/Rotation for Ruby on Rails?

  Hi, I have a niche site that I'd like to sell banners for directly, rather than going through adsense. I need a system to manage the whole process: displaying ads and an administrative interface to manage them. It doesn't have to be anything terribly fancy, although open source is greatly preferred so that I can grow the system as needs be. Since the site itself is in Rails, I would prefer something for that environment. Googling turns up bunches of them in PHP, but the results are a bit polluted and I didn't have any luck finding one that was done in/for Rails. If I don't find one, I suppose I'll see what I can do to hack together something and release it myself under an open license. Another possibility is this: http://www.google.com/admanager - anyone have anything to say about it? Is it right for someone just selling a few ads for a not-so-big site? Thanks, Dave

• Algorithm for Source Control System?

  I need to write a simple source control system and wonder what algorithm I would use for file differences? I don't want to look into existing source code due to license concerns. I need to have it licensed under MPL so I can't look at any of the existing systems like CVS or Mercurial as they are all GPL licensed. Just to give some background, I just need some really simple functions - binary files in a folder. no subfolders and every file behaves like it's own repository. No Metadata except for some permissions. Overall really simple stuff, my single concern really is how to store only the differences of a file from revision to revision without wasting too much space but also without being too inefficient (Maybe store a full version every X changes, a bit like Keyframes in Videos?)

  Hello, I have written a program for a stack. For this i needed a StringBuilder to be able to show me what was in the stack else i would get the class name instead of the actual values inside. My question is there any other way except for a StringBuilder for such kind of problem? Also in what other kind of cases does this kind of problem happen? • Only Integrating Box2D collision detection in my 2d engine?

  I have integrated box2d in my engine, ( Debug Draw, etc. ) and with a world I can throw in some 2d squares/rectangles etc. I saw this post, where the user is basically not using a world for collision detection, however the user doesn't explain anything about how he's using the manifold (b2Manifold), etc. Another post, is in the cocos2d forum, ( scroll down to the user Lam in the third reply ) Could anyone help me a bit with this?, basically want to add collision detection without the need of using b2World ,etc etc. Thanks a lot!

• C++: A variation of priority queue

  I need some kind of priority queue to store pairs <key, value>. Values are unique, but keys aren't. I will be performing the following operations (most common first): random insertion; retrieving (and removing) all elements with the least key. random removal (by value); I can't use std::priority_queue because it only supports removing the head. For now, I'm using an unsorted std::list. Insertion is performed by just pushing new elements to the back (O(1)). Operation 2 sorts the list with std::sort (O(N*logN)), before performing the actual retrieval. Removal, however, is O(n), which is a bit expensive. Any idea of a better data structure?

• Chipmunk warning still present with --release

  I'm using Python27 on Windows 7 64-bit. I downloaded the source for Chipmunk 6.2.x and compiled Pymunk with --release and -c ming32. Almost zero problems. Lots of path not found cause I'm bad. All prints seem to have disappeared but I get spammed with EPA iteration warnings. I've seen a couple discussions but no solutions. Possible chipmunk betas to fix the float errors causing the double truths causing the warning. I picked the latest stable version I think. My program is seriously bogged down with all the prints. class NullDevice(): def write(self, s): pass sys.stdout=NullDevice() Does not disable the C prints .< Any help?

  Looking for advice on the best technique for saving complex Python data structures across program sessions. Here's a list of techniques I've come up with so far: pickle/cpickle json jsonpickle xml database (like SQLite) Pickle is the easiest and fastest technique, but my understanding is that there is no guarantee that pickle output will work across various versions of Python 2.x/3.x or across 32 and 64 bit implementations of Python. Json only works for simple data structures. Jsonpickle seems to correct this AND seems to be written to work across different versions of Python. Serializing to XML or to a database is possible, but represents extra effort since we would have to do the serialization ourselves manually. Thank you, Malcolm

  I have started to look at Event-Based Components (EBCs), a programming method currently being explored by Ralf Wesphal in Germany, in particular. This is a really interesting and promising way to architect a software solution, and gets close to the age-old idea of being able to stick software components together like Lego :) A good starting point is the Channel 9 video here, and there is a fair bit of discussion in German at the Google Group on EBCs. I am however looking for more concrete examples - while the ideas look great, I am finding it hard to translate them into real code for anything more than a trivial project. Does anyone know of any good code examples (in C# preferably), or any more good sites where EBCs are discussed?

• What considerations should be made for a web app to be released on a cloud hosted system?

  I have a web app that is primarily a WordPress app, but it pulls content from a Django app, simply by calling a service that uses Django models. My understanding of cloud computing is a bit vague. If the site needs to scale up with short notice, does the cloud provider (Amazon, Rackspace, whomever) simply spin up new instances (copies) of my initially configured server? How is state managed between all of them? Are there any good primers on this subject? It's hard to find much out there without getting caught up in the marketing.

  Say I have assembly A. It was modified with Mono.Cecil a little bit. Now say I have assembly B. It has a class named SomeClass. Assembly A also has a class named SomeClass. Now I want to replace SomeClass from assembly A with the one in assembly B. I tried a few things, but I know that for one of my attempts, it actually remapped a method call like this: Console.WriteLine("Test."); ...into this: int.WriteLine("Test."); That can't be right. What is the correct way to replace a class with Mono.Cecil?

• [Alfresco] property qualified-name in method getContentReader

  Hi there, I first apologize for my poor english level and maybe for the stupidity of my question ;) I am on an alfresco project to learn how it works. I have to browse programatically my content repository and gather datas all along. In order to do that I guessed I had to use a ContentReader (I get from my ContentService) but the method getReader wants a nodeRef and a propertyQualifiedName. I am ok with the nodeRef, I get what it's needed for. But the propertyQualifiedName puzzles me, I barely get what it is but I frankly don't get how it is used. Reading some alfresco forum threads I get more and more scared that I dont even get how a reader works, I somewhere saw that a reader can read only one node and only one time per instance. If anyone knows a bit about the Java API for Alfresco Content Repository use I am all hears ! Cheers all !

• iPhoneOS SDK - Remove Corner Rounding from views (iPad problem)

  Hi Guys This might be a little bit picky, but in the iPad SplitViewController setup, there are 2 views. Each of the views has a very small black corner rounding. (This is probably the same with iPhone apps too). This rounding is visible in the image below. What I would like to do is remove the black rounding, so the UI doesnt get these two little bumps along the bottom. Has anyone done this, or know how to? -Its surely possible. • Creating a proper CMS thoughts

  I'm just about to expand the functionality of our own CMS but was thinking of restructuring the database to make it simpler to add/edit data types and values. Currently, the CMS is quite flat - the CMS requires a field in the database for every type of stored value. The first option that comes to mind is simply a table which keeps the data types (ie: Address 1, Suburb, Email Address etc) and another table which holds values for each of these data types. Just like how Wordpress keeps values in the 'options' table, serialize would be used to store an array of values. The second option is how Drupal works, the CMS creates tables for every data type. Unlike Wordpress, this can be a bit of an overkill but really useful for SQL queries when ordering and grouping by a particular value. What's everyone's thoughts?

• Checkstyle for C#?

  I'm looking to find something along the lines of Checkstyle for Visual Studio. I've recently started a new gig doing .NET work and realized that coding standards here are a bit lacking. While I'm still a young guy and far from the most experienced developer I'm trying to lead by example and get things going in the right direction. I loved the ability to use Checkstyle with Eclipse and examine code before reviews so I'd like to do the same thing with Visual Studio. Anyone have any good suggestions? Another thing I'd be somewhat interested in is a plug-in for SVN that disallows check-in until the main coding standards are met. I do not want people checking in busted code that's going to wind up in a code review. Any suggestions at this point would be great.

  This Question is almost the same as the previously asked Get the IP Address of local computer-Question. However I need to find the IP address(es) of a Linux Machine. So: How do I - programmatically in C++ - detect the IP addresses of the linux server my application is running on. The servers will have at least two IP addresses and I need a specific one (the one in a given network (the public one)). I'm sure there is a simple function to do that - but where? [EDIT] To make things a bit clearer: The server will obviously have the "localhost": 127.0.0.1 The server will have an internal (management) IP address: 172.16.x.x The server will have an external (public) IP address: 80.190.x.x I need to find the external IP address to bind my application to it. Obviously I can also bind to INADDR_ANY (and actually that's what I do at the moment). I would prefer to detect the public address, though.

• Convert Hexadecimal String to Data

  Hi Stack Overflow, I have found a whole lot of different solutions to this problem, but not all of them work, and a lot of them seem somewhat hacky and inefficient. Basically I have a string of hexadecimal data (i.e. "55 AA 41 2A 00 94 55 AA BB BB 00 FF") which I would like to convert to raw data. What is the best way to do this? • Computationally intensive scala process using actors hangs uncooperatively

  I have a computationally intensive scala application that hangs. By hangs I means it is sitting in the process stack using 1% CPU but does not respond to kill -QUIT nor can it be attached via jdb attach. Runs 2-12 hours at 800-900% CPU before it gets stuck The application is using ~10 scala.actors. Until now I have had great success with kill -QUIT but I am bit stumped as to how to proceed. The actors write a fair amount to stdout using println which is redirected to a text file but has not been helpful so far diagnostically. I am just hoping there is some obvious technique when kill -QUIT fails that I am ignorant of. Or just confirmation that having multiple actors println asynchronously is a real bad idea (though I've been doing it for a long time only recently with these results) Details scala 2.8.1 & 2.8.0 mac osx 10.6.5 java version "1.6.0_22" Thanks
