  • Why does 64-bit Windows need a separate "Program Files (x86)" folder?

    - by Stephen Jennings
    I know that on a 64-bit version of Windows the "Program Files" folder is for 64-bit programs and the "Program Files (x86)" folder is for 32-bit programs, but why is this even necessary? By "necessary", I don't mean "why could Microsoft not have made any other design decisions?" because of course they could have. Rather, I mean, "why, given the current design of 64-bit Windows, must 32-bit programs have a separate top-level folder from 64-bit programs?" There are plenty of questions on Super User and elsewhere that assert "one is for 32-bit programs, one is for 64-bit programs", but none that I can find give the reason. From my experience, it doesn't seem to matter whether a 32-bit program is installed in the correct place or not. Does Windows somehow present itself differently to a program running out of "Program Files (x86)"? Is there a description that shows exactly what's different for a program installed in "Program Files (x86)" instead of "Program Files"? I think it's unlikely that Microsoft would introduce a new folder without a legitimate technical reason.

  • How to block a website completely?

    - by user37076
    I want to block some sites(e.g. youtube,news sites ), because I have a problem with procrastination and I find these websites affect my productivity very much. I used to block them by adding them to HOSTS file. However, gradually every time I want to take a break, I open the hosts file and comment my block again. Is there any way I can block the websites and cannot (at least a little bit hard, e.g. I have to reboot my pc) unblock them. I have no access to the router or any firewall, besides the ones on my computer. I just want to FORCE myself to work without any chance to procrastinate.

  • Problems with Finder background images produced in Mac OS X 10.6?

    - by Joe
    Morning all. I'm creating DMG installers with background pictures. My build machine is 10.6. I'm having problems getting them working consistently: If I create one on 10.4 it works fine in 10.5, 10.5 and 10.6, If I create one for 10.5 it works fine in 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6, But if I create one in 10.6, the background picture shows in 10.6 but does not show in 10.4 or 10.5. I think I recall having seen similar reports in one or two places but there's not much information on the web. Has anyone here come across this problem? Is it recognised? Fixable? Unfortunately I have no option of running 10.5 on my build machine... Thanks! Update: This is a confirmed known bug in 10.6 . I will update this if there is any extra news.

  • Bing Desktop not updating the wallpaper anymore

    - by warmth
    For some reason, first my workstation and then my tablet stopped updating the wallpaper. First I thought it was my company that was avoiding the app to work properly but then I started noticing that the app itself is a mess: It has two storage and formats for the wallpapers: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\BingDesktop\en-US\Apps\Wallpaper_5386c77076d04cf9a8b5d619b4cba48e\VersionIndependent\images with a #####.jpg (single number) image format & C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\BingDesktop\themes with a ####-##-##.jpg (date) image format. I read here that deleting the themes folder it will get remade with the new images, and it worked. However those are not the files used by the Wallpaper app and deleting the images folder won't get the same result. I have added Bing Desktop to the Firewall white list and the issue is still there. Any ideas? Currently I'm using DisplayFusion to place the wallpaper manually because the company doesn't allow change the wallpapers (policies). Note: I wrote to the DisplayFusion developers to suggest adding a feature to support Bing Wallpapers. They told me there was no API support to implement it but they will study this possibility (workaround) for the future: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10639914/is-there-a-way-to-get-bings-photo-of-the-day

  • What's wrong with closing applications on Windows Mobile?

    - by balpha
    As far as I can tell, this annoys the crap out of people that do notice and (at max) gives no real benefit to people who don't notice: Why did Microsoft decide to make the "X" on Windows Mobile (or CE before that) not close, but only hide the application, and thus keep cluttering up your memory? WM wants you to go to the Control Panel - Memory and "Do you really want to" shut down the app. Pretty much every WM application I've seen that did not come from Microsoft has a "Quit" menu choice. The number of task managers out there that let you quit programs is larger than the count of emails from African bank managers that want me to take care of some millions of bucks that belonged to a deceased customer of theirs. My new HTC even comes with a close-able (not closeable, though) task manager pre-installed. But still today, Word Mobile just wants to hide, not be closed. I don't want to get a "That's M$hit, get used to it" answer; I really want to know: What in the world is the reason for this decision, and even more, for still sticking with it?

  • Where can I legally obtain the 64bit version of Windows 8?

    - by Harsha K
    No, I am not looking to pirate. I bought a key through the Upgrade assistant (for just $15 due to the upgrade offer), but it downloaded an iso file that was between 2.3 and 2.5 GB. Which doesn't make sense to me, because the Evaluation version of Windows 8 x64 is closer to 3.4 GB in size. I assumed the Upgrade Assistant would be intelligent enough to realize that it is being run on a Windows 7 x64 machine and by extension, download the x64 code. Previously, I was able to legally download the ISOs (sans the keys, of course) from the Digital River host. I do not see an option to do that. I'm not interested in risking downloading a tampered ISO. I want to do it through Microsoft channels, but I just don't see how. As you may imagine, search terms such as "Windows 8 official download link" result in a plethora of obviously spyware infested piracy sites. If there's any non-exposing way for me to prove that I have legally purchased Windows and I'm genuinely looking for this answer, please let me know. For reference to what I am looking for it is similar to the answer given in this question for Windows 7: Where do I download Windows 7 (legally from Microsoft)?

  • Profile not loaded correctly (Cannot access registry)

    - by xaav
    Every so often, I log on and get the Following Message: User profile was not loaded correctly. You have been logged on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off. Please see the event log for details or contact your administrator This almost always happens when somebody else has been on the computer for a while, and then I log on. This never used to happen, but now it happens pretty often. My profile is not permanently corrupted, all I have to do is restart my computer, but this annoys me, and I would like to fix it. I was curios about the reason of this cause, so I looked into the Event Log, and found the root of the problem was the ntuser.dat file in the profile that I was logging on to was locked at logon time. This resulted in the current users registry not being loaded, resulting in failure to load the profile. I just found a microsoft article that mentions this exact issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960464/ The problem is that I do not want to delete this profile; and this issue does not come up every time that I log on, only when somebody else has been on a long time before me. What could be locking this file? Is there any way to get a process list without logging on so that I can identify which process has the file locked? Any other suggestions?

IE: Hotmail, skyscanner, bbc news They can browse the sites sometimes then other times they get 408\409 errors. other machines in the domain can access these sites. I have cleared out dns cache on these machines modified external dns servers on the DC still to no avail. • Why does Chrome show overlapping text?

    - by dog44wgm
    In Chrome, news articles at: http://www.theprovince.com with a leading photo and caption show the caption text overlapped with the body text. I have an image but as a new user here I'm not allowed to upload it. It happens at that site almost always, here's an example from today: http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Canucks+Blackhawks+collision+Titanic+proportions/5721421/story.html It rarely happens elsewhere. The same link works fine in Internet Explorer so I'm guessing it's a Chrome issue. It's been like this for many months, I read the site almost everyday. I click on "Print this Article" to get a proper look at it, but it's annoying, hope someone has the answer. Thanks in advance.

  • Is is possible to guide installation of new programs using %ProgramFiles%? [closed]

    - by ??????? ???????????
    The purpose of this is to have the default "program files" (32 and 64 bit) folders located under an arbitrary path, possibly on a drive separate from where windows lives. Initially I thought that this may be done using a system environment variable through the dialog located under Control Panel - System - Advanced - Environment Variables. These variables turned out to be set in the registry under the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion. However, one particular entry is confusing. The ProgramFilesPath entry seems to point at an environment variable that is not defined under the same registry key. I could assume that the difference between ProgramFilesDir and ProgramFilesPath is none and that one of them exists as a backwards compatibility, but having some legitimate resource from Microsoft to look at would be better than guessing. After receiving some worrying feedback about having both 32 and 64bit applications in the same folder, I have decided not to ask about the feasibility of this to avoid discussion. The real question is if the desired effect is possible to attain by "cutting into" the windows setup process and modifying those registry entries as early as possible. These settings should be system wide and not only for software installed by a particular user. If this is indeed something that can be done, I wonder if there are any subtle pitfalls. Programs that expect libraries and other resources to be in default locations can probably be dealt with using the same technique as employed by Windows to re-map the "Documents and Settings" folders and the like (i.e. breaking legacy applications is not real concern).

  • How to merge Windows registry hives directly without converting them to an intermediate text based file?

    - by Registrar
    Help! I'm going to get fired if I can't figure out how to do this by tomorrow. Microsoft Windows stores its registry databases (known as "registry hives" - there's actually a backstory to the origin of this name, but I digress) in a proprietary binary format. Answer this correctly or you lose your job: Let H-sub-A be the registry hive of Computer A, and let H-sub-B be the registry hive of Computer B. Create a registry hive H-sub-A-prime (in the native binary format) that contains all of the registry keys and values in both H-sub-A and H-sub-B. If there is overlap, let the value from H-sub-B overwrite the value in H-sub-A. Sure, you can import a text-based patch file (e.g., "FOO.REG") to modify the registry, but can you merge two registry hives in their native binary format? Answers that involve exporting the registry to a text file (e.g., "FOO.REG") will receive no credit. You may only use software included with Microsoft Windows (any version) and / or third-party tools that are free of charge.

  • Wordpress > Custom wp-archives list by year and category with post count in sidebar

    - by David
    So I have been trying to add a custom sidebar archives section to this Wordpress Theme. I am trying to get two separate yearly archive sections, one for category A and one for category B. I need to get a post count and display it as well, to the left of "articles". This is the format I have been trying to get in the sidebar: Category 1 2010 - 5 articles 2009 - 4 articles 2008 - 6 articles 2007 - 5 articles Category 2 2010 - 8 articles 2009 - 3 articles 2008 - 7 articles 2007 - 5 articles This code is pulling the yearly archive, but the links to the yearly archives do not filter by category. However, if Category 1 does not have posts in 2008, 2008 would not show. So I feel like I am really close, but there is something wrong here in the code. I have also been unsuccessful in pulling the post count for the year/category either. Here is what I get: Category 1 2010 - articles (these links all take you to the general yearly archive page, not category specific) 2009 - articles 2007 - articles Category 2 2010 - articles 2009 - articles 2008 - articles 2007 - articles Here is are the functions I am using in my functions.php file, any idea what I am doing wrong? <?php function company_below_sidebar() { global $cat; ?> <div id="press"> <h2>Press</h2> <ul><?php $cat = '1'; wp_get_archives('type=yearly') ?></ul> </div> <div id="news"> <h2>News</h2> <ul><?php $cat = '4'; wp_get_archives('type=yearly') ?></ul> </div> <?php } add_action('thematic_betweenmainasides', 'company_below_sidebar'); function customarchives_join( $x ) { global $wpdb; return $x . " INNER JOIN $wpdb->term_relationships ON ($wpdb->posts.ID = $wpdb- >term_relationships.object_id) INNER JOIN $wpdb->term_taxonomy ON ($wpdb->term_relationships.term_taxonomy_id = $wpdb->term_taxonomy.term_taxonomy_id)"; } function customarchives_where( $x ) { global $wpdb; global $cat; return $x . " AND $wpdb->term_taxonomy.taxonomy = 'category' AND $wpdb->term_taxonomy.term_id IN ($cat)"; } add_filter( 'getarchives_where', 'customarchives_where' ); add_filter( 'getarchives_join', 'customarchives_join' ); function company_monthly_archive_flexible($input) { // Get URL from $input preg_match('(((f|ht){1}tp://)[-a-zA-Z0-9@:%_\+.~#?&;//=]+)', $input, $matches); $url = $matches[0]; // Get content from $input (without the tags) $content = trim(strip_tags($input)); // Seperate each date element and put it in an array $dates = explode(" ", $content); // Get year $year = $dates[0]; // Customize output format $format = "<li><a href='$url'><b>$year -</b> articles</a></li>\n"; echo $format; } add_filter('get_archives_link','company_monthly_archive_flexible'); ?>

  • Error data: line 2 column 1 when using pycurl with gzip stream

    - by Sagar Hatekar
    Thanks for reading. Background: I am trying to read a streaming API feed that returns data in JSON format, and then storing this data to a pymongo collection. The streaming API requires a "Accept-Encoding" : "Gzip" header. What's happening: Code fails on json.loads and outputs - Extra data: line 2 column 1 - line 4 column 1 (char 1891 - 5597) (Refer Error Log below) This does NOT happen while parsing every JSON object - it happens at random. My guess is I am encountering some weird JSON object after every "x" proper JSON objects. I did reference how to use pycurl if requested data is sometimes gzipped, sometimes not? and Encoding error while deserializing a json object from Google but so far have been unsuccessful at resolving this error. Could someone please help me out here? Error Log: Note: The raw dump of the JSON object below is basically using the repr() method. • fonts mac vs pc

    - by Kieran
    Hi all hope your having a good day/evening. Simple question, but maybe not so simple to answer. I have an unordered list, which i am using as a menu. The list items are floated right and sized due to an anchor tag inside them with a roll over. The last element is given a specific size to suck up any extra space. See the code snippits bellow. css ul.mainNav { width: 970px; display:block; background:black; clear:both; overflow:hidden;} ul.mainNav li { float: left; height:29px;} ul.mainNav li a { display: block; padding:7px 19px; color:#ffffff; background-color:#000; font-weight:bold; text-decoration:none; font-size:13px; } ul.mainNav li a:hover, ul.mainNav li a.selected { background-color:#ffff00; color:#000; } ul.mainNav li a.last{ text-align:center; padding: 7px 19px; width:58px;} html <ul class="mainNav" id="mainNav"> <li><a href="/Default.aspx">home</a></li> <li><a href="/About/">about</a></li> <li><a href="/News/">news</a></li> <li><a href="/Enter/Registration.aspx">enter SOYA 2010</a></li> <li><a href="/Categories/Film.aspx">categories</a></li> <li><a href="/Mentors/janChapman.aspx">mentors</a></li> <li><a href="/PastWinners/">past winners</a></li> <li><a href="/Awards/">awards nights</a></li> <li><a href="/Support/" class="last">contact</a></li> </ul> It is containted in a <div style="margin:0 auto;">...</div> to center on the menu on screen Now my problem is: On PC; firefox/ Safari /IE /Chrome are all displaying correctly. Take the same code to a Mac; Safari/ firefox are displaying the menu to be too short and the only thing i can point to is that the fonts may be smaller in widths. The width is currently set to 970px. My question is: How can i get it to display at the same widths without specifying exact widths for each list item? Any help would be appreciated. If my structure is wrong or it is just a mac thing that i will never solve(hope not). Cheers, KJ

  • HTML overflow:hidden doesn't format text correctly

    - by Rens Groenveld
    I'm working on a website for an American Football team. They have these newsitems on their front page which they can manage through a CMS system. I have a problem with alligning the text inside those news items. Two of the news items look like this: As you can see, the right newsitem text are displayed nicely. But the left cuts it off really bad. You can only see the top half of the text at the last sentence. I use overflow: hidden; to make sure the text doesn't make the div or newsitem bigger. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this through HTML and CSS or should I cut it off serverside with PHP? Here's my code (HTML): <div class="newsitem"> <div class="titlemessagewrapper"> <h2 class="titel" align="center"><?php echo $row['homepagetitel']; ?></h2> <div class="newsbericht"> <?php echo $row['homepagebericht']; ?> </div> </div> <div class="newsfooter"> <span class="footer_author"><a href=""><?php echo get_gebruikersnaam_by_id($row['poster_id']); ?></a></span> <span class="footer_comment"><a href="">Comments <span>todo</span></a></span> <a href="" class="footer_leesmeer">Lees meer</a> </div> </div> And here is the CSS: .newsitem{ float: left; height: 375px; width: 296px; margin: 20px 20px 0px 20px; background-color: #F5F5F5; } .newsitem .titel{ color:#132055; font-size:1.2em; line-height:1.3em; font-weight:bold; margin:10px 5px 5px 5px; padding:0 0 6px 0; border-bottom:1px dashed #9c0001; } .titlemessagewrapper{ height: 335px; overflow: hidden; } .newsitem .newsbericht{ padding:5px 5px 5px 5px; font-size: 0.8em; margin-bottom: 5px; } .newsitem .newsfooter{ width: 100%; height: 25px; background-color: #132055; margin: 0px auto; font-size: 0.8em; padding-top: 5px; margin-top: 10px; border: 1px solid #9c0001; }

  • background image disappears when position relative used in firefox

    - by toomanyairmiles
    So I'm trying to add a badge to the top right corner of a site I'm doing some work on. z-index works to float the object above the page content but each time i try to use position relative the background image disappears only position absolute shows the image. I don't really want to use absolute as the image needs to be positioned on the right hand side of the sites menu bar not the right hand side of the viewport. Any thoughts or advice appreciated <div class="badge-box"> <a href="http://www.google.com" class="badge">Book Now!</a> </div> <div id="header"> <a href="index.php"><img src="images/pixel.gif" width="378" height="31" alt="Welcome to Gwynfryn Farm Cottages" /></a> </div> <div id="main-menu"> <div> <a href="/">Home</a> <a href="/cottages.php">Our Cottages</a> <a href="/gwynfryn.php">Bed &amp; Breakfast</a> <a href="/rates.php">Price Guide</a> <a href="/llanbedr.php">Location &amp; Local Attractions</a> <a href="/news.php">News &amp; Special Offers</a> <a href="/contact.php">Contact Us</a> </div> </div> .badge-box { width: 1030px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px solid red; } .badge { background: url(../images/badge.png) 0px 0px no-repeat; width: 148px; height: 148px; text-indent: -10000px; position: relative; z-index: 999; } #header { width: 960px; height: 40px; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; margin-top:20px; padding: 20px 0px 0px 20px; background: #58564f url(../images/header-top-background.png); } #main-menu { width: 980px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; height: 35px; /*background: red;*/ background: #58564f url(../images/header-bottom-background.png); font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; } #main-menu div { width: 776px; height: 35px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; background: blue; } #main-menu div a { display: block; float: left; padding: 5px 10px 0px 10px; height: 30px; color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 1.2em; text-align: center; background: green; } #main-menu div a:hover { background-color: #333333; }

  • How to remove the xmlns:XSI and xmlns:XSD namespaces from the xml output of a webservice in .net fra

    - by Chetan
    HI, This is an old question, i have seen some solutions on this forum itself, but am trying to use webservices for the first time so please bear with me on this one. I have a webservice that returns XML in the following format <subs xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" msisdn="965xxxxxx"> <shortcode label="XXXX"> <channels> <channel> <id>442</id> <name>News</name> <billingperiod>7</billingperiod> <billingamount>3</billingamount> <lastbilling>4/14/2010 1:41:11 PM</lastbilling> </channel> <channel> <id>443</id> <name>News2</name> <billingperiod>7</billingperiod> <billingamount>3</billingamount> <lastbilling>4/14/2010 1:41:19 PM</lastbilling> </channel> </channels> </shortcode> </subs> I want the same XMl output without the xmlns:xsd and xmlns:xsi tags. I have tried the following solution that was suggested: Public Function GetSubscription(....) As String Dim namespaces As New XmlSerializerNamespaces namespaces.Add(String.Empty, String.Empty) Dim serializer As New XmlSerializer(SubsDetail.GetType) Dim sw As New System.IO.StringWriter Dim writer As New System.Xml.XmlTextWriter(sw) writer.Formatting = Formatting.None serializer.Serialize(writer, SubsDetail, namespaces) writer.Close() Return sw.toString() The result was that I got an xml in the following format: <string> <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><subs msisdn="965xxxx"> <shortcode label="XXXX"> <channels> <channel> <id>442</id> <name>News</name> <billingperiod>7</billingperiod> <billingamount>3</billingamount> <lastbilling>4/14/2010 1:41:11 PM</lastbilling> </channel> <channel> <id>443</id> <name>News2</name> <billingperiod>7</billingperiod> <billingamount>3</billingamount> <lastbilling>4/14/2010 1:41:19 PM</lastbilling> </channel> </channels> </shortcode> </subs> </string> Though the format of the xml is correct it is coming as string within the <string> tags. This is really driving me nuts. Can I get the output as xml without the outer string tags?

  • Having trouble with multiple Jquery libraries

    - by user3716971
    I've seen the posts about the no conflict but I'm not very code savvy and can't figure it out alone. I'm having trouble making two libraries work together. At the top I have the 1.9.1 library which controls a news ticker, and a carousel. Near the bottom there is a library 1.6.1, which controls a Dribbble feed. If I remove 1.6.1 everything but the dribbble feed works, and if I remove the 1.9.1 the dribbble feed is the only thing that works. I uploaded the website for you guys to check out. If you could edit my code to make it work that would be amazing, I don't have much knowledge of jquery. This version has a working dribbble feed at the very bottom http://michaelcullenbenson.com/MichaelCullenBenson.com/index.html and this version has a broken feed and everything else works. http://michaelcullenbenson.com/MichaelCullenBenson.com/index2.html Help would be AMAZING as the dribbble feed is the last element I'm trying to finish on my homepage and I'll be able to move on. <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery-1.9.1.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.innerfade.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready( function(){ $('#news').innerfade({ animationtype: 'slide', speed: 600, timeout: 6000, type: 'random', containerheight: '1em' }); }); </script> <!-- Include all compiled plugins (below), or include individual files as needed --> <script src="utilcarousel-files/utilcarousel/jquery.utilcarousel.min.js"></script> <script src="utilcarousel-files/magnific-popup/jquery.magnific-popup.js"></script> <script src="js/responsive-nav.js"></script> <script> $(function() { $('#fullwidth').utilCarousel({ breakPoints : [[600, 1], [800, 2], [1000, 3], [1300, 4],], mouseWheel : false, rewind : true, autoPlay : true, pagination : false }); $('#fullwidth2').utilCarousel({ breakPoints : [[600, 1], [800, 2], [1000, 3], [1300, 4],], mouseWheel : false, rewind : true, autoPlay : true, pagination : false }); }); </script> <script> $(document).ready(function() { var movementStrength = 25; var height = movementStrength / $(window).height(); var width = movementStrength / $(window).width(); $("#aboutarea").mousemove(function(e){ var pageX = e.pageX - ($(window).width() / 2); var pageY = e.pageY - ($(window).height() / 2); var newvalueX = width * pageX * -1 - 25; var newvalueY = height * pageY * -1 - 50; $('#aboutarea').css("background-position", newvalueX+"px "+newvalueY+"px"); }); }); </script> <script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.1/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="dribbble.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function () { $('#user').dribbble({ player: 'MCBDesign', total: 1 }); }); </script>

  • SQL SERVER – Activity Monitor and Performance Issue

    - by pinaldave
    We had wonderful SQLAuthority News – Community Tech Days – December 11, 2010 event yesterday. After the event, we had meeting among Jacob Sebastian, Vinod Kumar, Rushabh Mehta and myself. We all were sharing our experience about performance tuning consultations. During the conversation, Jacob has shared wonderful story of his recent observation. The story is very small but the moral of the story is very important. The story is about a client, who had continuously performance issues. Client used Activity Monitor (Read More: SQL SERVER – 2008 – Location of Activity Monitor – Where is SQL Serve Activity Monitor Located) to check the performance issues. The pattern of the performance issues was very much common all the time. Every time, after a while the computer stopped responding. After doing in-depth performance analysis, Jacob realized that client once opened activity monitor never closed it. The same activity monitor itself is very expensive process. The tool, which helped to debug the performance issues, also helped (negatively) to bring down the server. After closing the activity monitor which was open for long time, the server did not have performance issues. Moral of the story: Activity Monitor is great tool but use it with care and close it when not needed. • How To Restore Firefox Options To Default Without Uninstalling

    - by Gopinath
    Firefox plugins are awesome and they are the pillars for the huge success of Firefox browser. Plugins vary from simple ones like changing color scheme of the browser to powerful ones likes changing the behavior of the browser itself. Recently I installed one of the powerful Firefox plugins and played around to tweak the behavior of the browser. At the end of my half an hour play, Firefox has completely become useless and stopped rending web pages properly. To continue using Firefox I had to restore it to default settings. But I don’t like to uninstall and then install it again as it’s a time consuming process and also I’ll loose all the plugins I’m using. How did I restore the default settings in a single click? Default Settings Restore Through Safe Mode Options It’s very easy to restore default settings of Firefox with the safe mode options. All we need to do is 1.  Close all the Firefox browser windows that are open 2. Launch Firefox in safe mode 3. Choose the option Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults 4. Click on Make Changes and Restart button. Note: When Firefox restore the default settings, it erases all the stored passwords, browser history and other settings you have done. That’s all. This excellent feature of Firefox saved me from great pain and hope it’s going to help you too. Join us on Facebook to read all our stories right inside your Facebook news feed.

  • How to Install Mac OS X Lion on Your HP ProBook (or Compatible Laptop)

    - by Usman
    There’s nothing more satisfying than building a hackintosh, i.e. installing Mac OS X on a non-Apple machine. Although it isn’t as easy as it sounds, but the end result is worth the effort. Building a PC with specific components and installing Mac OS X on it can save you thousands of dollars you might spend on a real Mac. And now, it’s time to step into the portable world. Today we will show how you can turn an HP ProBook (or any compatible Sandy Bridge laptop) into a 95% MacBook Pro! Why should (or shouldn’t) you do it? Let’s clarify whether or not it should be done. Firstly, we all know Apple makes awesome laptops. The design, build quality, and the aesthetics (not to mention, the glowing Apple) would make you crave for one. Secondly, all these Apple laptops are bundled with Mac OS X, which (for some people) is the most user-friendly and annoyance-free operating system. Digital artists, musicians, video editors, they all prefer Mac for a reason. So the verdict is, if hardware design is what you really look for, you should get a real Mac, and we are not at all stopping you from doing so. But if you’re only concerned with the OS (and saving a few bucks in your pocket), you may consider giving this a shot. But remember, it may not perform as good as a real Mac does. The results vary, so hope for the best, and proceed with caution. Why HP ProBook?
