  Hello! This is my first time here so I hope I post this question at the right place. :) I need to build flood control for my script but I'm not good at all this datetime to time conversions with UTC and stuff. I hope you can help me out. I'm using the Google App Engine with Python. I've got a datetimeproperty at the DataStore database which should be checked if it's older than 20 seconds, then proceed. • Video learning for database design

  I'm trying to learn good relational database design (using mysql and php if that makes any difference). I've already done some database work, so I'm not totally clueless, but I suspect that my solutions may not have adhered to best practices for efficient searching, optimization, etc. Can someone suggest a good set of videos on the topic? If you know something is superb or has really made a difference in your own learning, please post your suggestion. Prefer videos, but books (as long as they're not too huge) are ok too.   Hi, I've been trying to make this code work for the last 3 hours. I've tried about everytinh, but I'm still unable to get it to work. I only managed to send 1 data. When I use this code, I only manage to retrieve recaptcha_challenge_field. If I remove recaptcha_challenge_field, I retrieve recaptcha_response_field.   I have codeigniter installed at the root directory, and would like to have a subdirectory called "test" password protected using htaccess. I keep getting a "404 page not found" no matter what I try. • jQuery drag drop slower for more DIV items

  Hi there, I have got a hierarchichal tags (with parent child relationship) in my page and it will account to 500 - 4500 (can even grow). When i bound the draggable and droppable for all i saw very bad performance in IE7 and IE6. The custom helper wont move smoothly and was very very slow. Based on some other post i have made the droppable been bound/unbound on mouseover and mouseout events (dynamically). Its better now. But still i dont see the custom helper move very smoothly there is a gap between the mouse cursor and the helper when they move and gets very bad when i access the site from remote. Please help me to address this performance issue. Am totally stuck here.. :(

• Storing ASP.Net MVC Views in the Database

  For an ASP.Net MVC application, I'm interested in storing some views and/or partial views in the database so that a few semi-technical users can do some basic view logic. Does anyone have any tips or lessons from experience on doing this? I know Phil Haack wrote a blog post on this about a year ago. He used IronRuby for scripting his views, (which would be fine for me). He created a quick proof-of-concept, but I can't find any other information on the topic. Any ideas, thoughts, tips, etc would be appreciated. Thanks!

• How important is W3C XHTML/CSS validation when finalizing work?

  Even though I always strive for complete validation these days, I often wonder if it's a waste of time. If the code runs and it looks the same in all browsers (I use browsershots.org to verify) then do I need to take it any further or am I just being overly anal? What level do you hold your code to when you create it for: a) yourself b) your clients P.S. Jeff and company, why doesn't stack overflow validate? :) EDIT: Some good insights, I think that since I've been so valid-obsessed for so long I program knowing what will cause problems and what won't so I'm in a better position than people who create a site first and then "go back and fix the validation problems" I think I may post another question on stack overflow; "Do you validate as you go or do you finish and then go back and validate?" as that seems to be where this question is going

I found a blog post using the List's Find method along with a delegate, but whereas that example has a separate class (Person), I'm attempting something like the following using an instance of the string object: // My definition of the List object. • Connect sortable lists together and update SQL using jQuery UI

  I'm using jQuery UI's sortable lists to sort items in a todo list, and the reordering of the lists works like a charm. I have several UL lists for each todo category, i.e. Design, Development, etc. I want to be able to move an item from one category to another, and jQuery UI's sortable lists plugin allows me to do this with the connectWith option parameter. But I can't seem to find how to update the database as well. The todo database table has a field for a reference to the category which is laying in it's own table.   Developing a community site where everyone can post text, I'm looking for a markup filter: What is not part of the markup must be escaped (htmlspecialchars()) as it is. Should turn URL-s automatically into links Should support some form of basic markups (bold, image, url, pre, list) Should have a simple parser, that turns user input text into HTML Content on the site is public to everyone, XSS must not allowed to happen. What do you suggest? What markup language in the first place? BBCode? Wiki? Markdown? Are there any complete API-s with good examples? PHP is available on the server side. If there is a WYSIWYG-like texarea in addition (like here on SO) that would be a fantastic bonus!

• Why can't I attach the debugger?

  I'm using Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and trying to debug a website created in ASP Classic. I have read numerous tutorials, however nothing seems to be working (PEBKAC?). I have enabled server-side debugging in IIS and am attaching the debugger to dllhost.exe. When I open my page in Google Chrome, set breakpoints and set VS to debug, nothing happens. I don't get any errors so I'm not sure what else to post. Any ideas? Thank you. :)

  Hi! I can't find any other post which addresses this topic on a purely general level. I'm very unexperienced in developing full scale websites. I get around using HTML and PHP for simple tasks. Now I'm looking at developing a more elaborate site and want to get hold of a good tool which doesn't eat my wallet to the bones. I guess I should add more intelligent text here about what I expect it to be capable of, but I really don't know so much. I guess the code/design/preview style in dreamweaver appealed to me, and I'm definetely going to use scripting like PHP or ASP.NET, some database work etc. I guess pretty much the standard (?) website development tasks. So, are there good tools out there I should be looking at?

  I am used to developing in PHP/MySQL and have no experience developing with SQL Server. I've skimmed over the PHP MSSQL documentation and it looks similar to MySQLi in some of the methods I read about. For example, with MySQL I utilize the function mysql_real_excape_string(). Is there a similar function with PHP/SQL Server? What steps do I need to take in order to protect against SQL injection with SQL Server? What are the differences between SQL Server and MySQL pertaining to SQL injection prevention? also - is this post accurate? is the escape string character for SQL Server a single quote?

• Base-camp Style Subdomains and IDs of Models

  I have an app that has Basecamp-style subdomains, that is, I have Projects, Users, Apples and Oranges. The Users, Apples and Oranges are all keyed to a Project and only exist in the http://project.myapp.com. I added a project_id to Users, Apples and Oranges and everything works, except of course that the ids of those three objects increment globally, and throughout my app I lookup objects by that id. This doesn't seem like best practice. Should I instead do lookups by a secondary key? How does that affect efficiency? If there's a good blog post that covers this, would be wesome.

  I'm attempting to get Rails to play nice with the Digg API's OAuth. I'm using the oauth gem (ruby one, not the rails one).   So the puzzle is to write a hello world program in your language of choice, where the program's source file as a string has to be a palindrome. To be clear, the output has to be exactly "Hello, World". Edit: Well, with comments it seems trivial (not that I thought of it myself of course [sigh].. hat tip to cobbal). So new rule: no comments. • Debug .Net Framework's source code only shows disassembly in Visual Studio 2010

  Hi! I'm trying to debug .Net Framework's source code using Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I followed the steps described in Raj Kaimal's post but I must be doing something wrong since the only code I'm getting to see is the disassembly code: As you can see in the image, the Go to Source Code and the Load Symbols options are disabled. Nevertheless, symbols are downloaded from Microsoft's server since I can see them inside the local cache directory. The code I'm debugging goes as follow: var wr = WebRequest.Create("http://www.google.com"); Console.WriteLine("Web request created"); var req = wr.GetRequestStream(); Console.Read(); When I hit F11 to step into the first line of code, a window pops us looking for the "WebRequst.cs" file inside "f:\dd\ndp\fx\src\Net\System\Net\WebRequest.cs" which does not exists on my machine.   I use to create an application that uses the windows speech recognition engine or the SAPI. its like a game for pronounciation that it give you score when you pronounce it correctly. but when i started experiments with SAPI, it has poor recognition unless if you load a grammar on it (XML) its give best recognition result. but the problem now is closest pronounciation from the input text will be recognize. for example: Database - dedebase - correct. even if you mispronounce it. it gives you correct answers. without using the xml grammar when you say database it give you "in the base/the base/data base/etc..." please post your answer,suggestion,clarication and please votes for best answer.

I need 3 actions. 1) When user click in textarea i want display DIV what will contain preview, i want animate opening. 2) When user typing, i want dynamical load parsed by PHP code to DIV. (i'm still thinking what will be best option... refresh every 2 seconds, or maybe we can detect and refresh after 1 second of inactivity [stop typing]) 3) When user click outside textarea i want close preview div with animation. For example the PHP parser will have patch /api/parser.php and variable by POST called $_POST['message']. Any idea my digital friends ?

• IE page redirect hanging

  My app does a POST to my local server to create a new DOM element, comes back and should redirect to the same page with the new element. The problem is when it gets back from the server, the app hangs for almost 2 minutes before doing the redirect. I've isolated the issue to the fact that IE seems to have trouble with my tree structure of 100+ DOM elements, and I can see in HTTPWatch that it sits in a "Blocked" call for the 2 minutes before doing the redirect. Our temporary workaround is to set the inner-html of the tree structure to an empty string before submitting, thus eliminating the heavy DOM lifting, but we shouldn't need to do this (firefox has no trouble with the redirect). Question 1: Is there a better fix for this issue? Question 2: Why does ANY page care about the content before a redirect if it's going to be refreshed anyway? Thanks yall //sw
