  • How to Reinstalling MSSQL Server 2008 with SP1? (Windows 7)

    I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I had earlier installed SQL server 2008 with SP1 with Visual Studio 2008 Team System with sp1.     Pretty simple - how can one select just pasted text (after pasting it) ? I'm editing some files which are purely data, and I get "lost" sometimes ... so it would help if I could select it or somehow otherwise mark the text I've just pasted as to have a visual confirmaton, and to know from where to continue. Can it be done ?

  • Gratuitous CRLF in Subject: line - why is it there, and is it legal?

    I'm running into a problem with a NAGIOS system sending emails to a popular email-to-SMS service. The email-to-SMS service takes emails with text in the Subject: line, and sends them on to the mobile number encoded in the To: field. So far so good. Sadly, sendmail (and postfix before it) seem to be inserting a gratuitous CRLF into the (necessarily long) Subject: line, and that's causing my SMS messages to be truncated at the CRLF if and only if the Subject: line contains one or more colons past the gratuitous CRLF. I am confident that the messages are being created correctly, but just to be sure, here's me creating a completely noddy test message to myself, with a long Subject: line: echo "foo" | mail -s "1234567 101234567 201234567 301234567 401234567 501234567 601234567 701234567 801234567 90123456789" [email protected] Note there's no extra colon in this Subject: line; all I'm doing here is showing that an extra CRLF is inserted on the wire. The receiving MTA seems happy to post-process this, and when I look at the on-disc stored mail at the receiving end, I see only a LF (0x0a) in the Subject: line, and the line is parsed correctly and in its entirety by, eg, alpine. Nevertheless, the CRLF is there on the wire, and between me and the (excellent) email-to-SMS support people, we've established that these are the cause of the problem. So my question is: is it lawful for an MTA to insert a gratuitous CRLF on the wire? If it is, and I can prove it, then it's the email-to-SMS house's problem, because they are being intolerant. If it isn't, or it is but I can't prove it, then it becomes my problem, so an answer with references would be most useful. Edit: I can now come clean that the email-to-SMS service in question is kapow. Once this problem was explained to them, they got it, worked with me to develop and test a fix, and have deployed the fix. My long subject lines with colons in now get relayed correctly into SMSes. I don't normally trumpet individual companies, especially not on SF, but I thought it worthy of note that kapow Did The Right Thing. (Disclaimer: I have no connection with kapow except as a paying customer who's happy about the way they dealt with his problem.)

  • Is there a way to unhook a global hotkey in windows?

    I'm running Windows 7, and I installed an application that installed a global hot key (ctrl+shift+space) which conflicts with another application (Visual Studio) that uses that hotkey (though, not globally, only applications specific). The question is, knowing which application it is (ScanSnap Manager) and that it doesn't have a setting to turn off the hot key, is there a way I disable it through Windows somehow? Thanks!

  • Smartphone Emulator for checking emails are readable

    Is there an emulator that would enable me to test the appearance of an email as it is being read on a smartphone (without specifying the phone type)? What I would like to be able to do, is to send an email to this emulator, and then scroll down through the email using the emulator. Ive searched online, and any emulators I found are for testing software rather than exploring the visual appearance of email. I'm using Mac OSX - thanks in advance.

  • Unable to connect host from guest VPC.

    Hello. My host is WinXP and my guest (on VPC 2007) is also WinXP. Both have SP2. I am unable to ping either from one another. However, I am able to connect to the Internet from the guest. My intention is to be able to connect the SQL Server on the host from the Management Studio installed on the guest. Right now I am using Shared Networking (NAT) on the guest's settings.

I want the machine to be snappy and responsive even when doing a reasonable amount of Development work. I want to spend what it takes for this, but I don't want to go overboard spending more than I need to. I won't be playing many games or graphics processing so i won't need a monster of a machine.     I have a database backup located in my Windows 7 Documents folder (c:\Users\Aaron\Documents...), and I'm trying to restore it using SQL Server Management Studio. However, the program is unable to access anything within the Users\Aaron directory using its non-standard file selection dialog, even when run as an Administrator. I'm brand new to Windows 7... Is there some sort of security setting that I need to trigger to give programs access to these files?

    Windows Calculator can switch into a "Scientific" mode, getting more math and logical operators, but that's not good enough. I know there are tons of features its missing, such as the ones we see in the Windows 7 calc, or simply making things more visual. Its been years and I still haven't found a good calculator replacement. Suggestions? And hopefully your calc replaces MS Calc when I press the dedicated "calculator key" on my Keyboard, so I don't have to hunt around for a shortcut.

    When I start Management Studio, unless I use the "Run as Administrator" selection, I cannot login to my local SQL Server. Is this normal? I am a normal developer and don't believe I have a need for high security on my local machine. I'm running SQL Server 2008, Windows 7.
