  Hi, Although this seems like something very basic, but no matter what I tried I couldn't get my head around it. Basically I want a html form where a user types in their ID number in an input text box and when they hit the submit button it displays their email address which is their company ID number @ company.com, such as below <form action=""> ID Number: <input type="text" name="idnumber" /><br/> <input type="submit" value="Whats my email address" /> </form> <p>Your email address is 'idnumber'@email.com</p> Can this even be done using html or would I need to use Javascript or PHP for it?   I'm creating a python script of which parses a large (but simple) CSV. It'll take some time to process. I would like the ability to interrupt the parsing of the CSV so I can continue at a later stage. Currently I have this - of which lives in a larger class: (unfinished) Edit: I have some changed code.   I tried the option of students.item["http://www.myurl.com"].comments.data.length. However, the item["http://www.myurl.com"] call is not working. If I take out the URL from JSON object and write the iterator with students.comments.data, it works. Now I'm struggling creating this on Pylons with sqlalchemy I tried to do the following picture = Session.query(model.Picture) sub_q = picture.filter_by(albumid = model.Album.id).limit(1).subquery() album_q = Session.query(model.Album, sub_q) result = album_q.all() but it creates the following statement displaying the incorrect picture beacuse the table albums is included in the subquery select albums.name,(select pictures.path from pictures,albums where pictures.albumid=albums.id) from albums where ... Am I doing it wrong?, is this even possible in sqlalchemy?.

  I am working on a widget that is a lot like twitters widget where there is a list of postings and a view more button. I can get it to work with using ID variables but I would like to sort by popular posts. Here is my mysq code: $sql = "SELECT id, title, category, icon_normal, status, description, views_monthly FROM posts WHERE views_monthly<=".$lastPost." AND status='1' ORDER BY views_monthly DESC LIMIT 9" So the problem that I am having is it shows the first 9 just fine. When it gets to the point where views_monthly = 0 then it just loads the same 9 post over again. How do it get it to switch to using ID when it reaches Views_monthly = 0 and load fresh posts?

  We have a PostgreSQL database. And we have several tables which need to keep certain data in several languages (the list of possible languages is thankfully system-wide defined). For example lets start with: create table blah (id serial, foo text, bar text); Now, let's make it multilingual. How about: create table blah (id serial, foo_en text, foo_de text, foo_jp text, bar_en text, bar_de text, bar_jp text); That would be good for full-text search in Postgres. Just add a tsvector column for each language. But is it optimal? Maybe we should use another table to keep the translations? Like: create table texts (id serial, colspec text, obj_id int, language text, data text); Maybe, just maybe, we should use something else - something out of the SQL world? Any help is appreciated.

  I have a file which contains three integers per line. When I read the line I use a stringstream to separate the values, but it only reads the first value as it is.   I have a model Foo with a String bar and a String name. Some records' bar contain the name of other records in them. This is intentional. I want to find the "root Foo" records - that is, the ones where their name do not appear in the bar records of any other Foo records. Example: Foo id: 1 name: 'foo1' bar: 'something something' id: 2 name: 'foo2' bar: 'foo1 something' id: 3 name: 'foo3' bar: 'foo1, foo4' My method root_foos would return foo2 and foo3 since their names do not appear in any bar string. edit: I don't want to use a relation or foreign key here - just this method.

• Why isn't this button firing the anchor tag?

  My idea is to press a button that takes me to a web page. I've created a thing that dynamically creates a button and an anchor tag. When the button is clicked, I want it to "click"/fire up the anchor tag.. I've uploaded a demo to my site, when you try it out just leave everything as it is. Click the first button then the add button right away.. then try to click the dynamically created button. Nothing happens, but if you watch the source you can find an anchor tag with the ID FL1000, I've set it up so that the anchor tag gets the ID from the value of the created button + 1000 just incase I need to use that ID.. Thanks guys... edit: this is optimized for google chrome, haven't tried it out with other browser.

• sql query is too slow, how to improve speed

  I have run into a bottleneck when trying to update one of my tables. The player table has, among other things, id, skill, school, weight. What I am trying to do is: SELECT id, skill FROM player WHERE player.school = (current school of 4500) AND player.weight = (current weight of 14) to find the highest skill of all players returned from the query UPDATE player SET starter = 'TRUE' WHERE id = (highest skill) move to next weight and repeat when all weights have been completed move to next school and start over all schools completed, done I have this code implemented and it works, but I have approximately 4500 schools totaling 172000 players and the way I have it now, it would take probably a half hour or more to complete (did not wait it out), which is way too slow. How to speed this up? Short of reducing the scale of the system, I am willing to do anything that gets the intended result.   I have an application for scheduling certain events. And all these events must be reviewed after each scheduled time. So basically we have 3 tables: items(id, name) scheduled_items(id, item_id, execute_at - datetime) - item_id column has an index option. reviewed_items(id, item_id, created_at - datetime) - item_id column has an index option. So core function of the application is "give me any items(which are not yet reviewed) for the actual moment". How can I optimize this solution for speed(because it is very core business feature and not micro optimization)? I suppose that adding index to the datetime fields doesn't make any sense because the cardinality or uniqueness on that fields are very high and index won't give any(?) speed-up. Is it correct? What would you recommend? Should I try no-SQL? -- mysql -V 5.075 I use caching where it makes sence.
