• Quantal analyzes the HD in any boot

  I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 formating the HDD. Any time that I turn on the PC and boot Ubuntu, it always analyzes my HDD in search for bad blocks. This is what happens: When I turn on the PC and load Ubuntu, before I can login my user, appears the following image. If I press C, the process ends and I can work, if I wait until the process can finish by itself also I can work. Also I had this problem, related to the HDD. My Hard Disk Driver is a Western Digital. Is there any problem on the system? Can I stop this procedure? Information that can help: tune2fs -l output

• Should SpecFlow be used with BDD as a solo developer?

  I am a long time fan of TDD and after reading the RSpec book, would like to transistion to a BDD process. I like the idea of driving from the outside in, as it is presented in the book. What I am having a hard time getting a handle on is how to structure the tests. I have tried SpecFlow, but it seems cumbersome to use when I am the only one really ever going to be looking at the tests. I like the idea of just using straight NUnit, rather then adding another framework, like it is presented here. Is this a good way to try and structure BDD tests? Is there more information out there on comparing the two ways (that may even be more recent)?

• How to disable mouseover popup icons on launcher?

  If an application is open and its icon is contained in the launcher panel, moving the mouse over the launcher icon will cause a very annoying popup icon to appear, showing a small image of the open application. It is annoying because it lingers too long and covers other information. For example, it covers the menus that appear when I right-click on a launcher panel icon. How do I disable these mouseover popups? I don't necessarily want to disable the "text" mouseover popup, I only want to disable the image popups. Thanks. Ubuntu 12.04, new install.

• nouveu driver logs into unity-2d by default

  I have an old system with NVIDIA Corporation NV25 [GeForce4 Ti 4600]. When running Ubuntu , the nouveau driver loads fine but does not log into Unity with compiz. Instead it logs into Unity-2D. Any idea how to enable 3D/ compiz with the nouveau driver. OS: Ubuntu 12.04 Beta2 The nvidia driver is no more available for this graphics card, so have to rely on nouveau. UPDATE: Bug reported on launchpad . See here. There has been no reply as yet to this bug-report - does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Further information, Also, if I use kubuntu desktop, kwin graphics works just fine. But, the users prefer Unity over KDE so I have uninstalled Kubuntu.

• U1 music shows unknown artist, how can I make it recognize m4a files?

  Hello all, I am in the process of uploading my music library as a backup to U1, but I figured, why not also enjoy Ubuntu 1 music on my iPhone? With a few difficulties to start, the upload is now in progress, but I've noticed that there is a huge percentage of files in the unknown artist folder, and I believe it is all of my m4a files. They play fine, but without any information. Coming from an iTunes background, and having bought the majority of my music on the iTunes store, I wonder how I could make this work, easily? I am on Maverick (afaik), but About Ubuntu shows 11.04. I use Banshee as my music manager, and I monitor my sync using Ubuntu one preferences, ubuntuone-indicator and magicicada. The total file size of my music folder is 38.9GB. Thank you for your help!! And apologies if I couldn't find a thread where this was already covered...

But there are some points to consider that make a bit app-rehensive. These are all mentioned in my book “SharePoint 2013 - Planet of the Apps”, .. but here are some thoughts of the negatives of Apps that I think we need to consider before diving in, Mutliple Servers, More Complexity Apps, by definition will include an extra server. This excludes SharePoint-hosted apps of course. Extra servers by definition will add more complexity. As it is, when you introduce SharePoint to an organization, the number of servers multiply like bunnies. Now you will have additional servers, and these servers talking with each other.   I got the job as a Consultant in a firm that has 3 other programmers. My job is to rewrite all the old system in Java, Spring etc but the staff programmers only know perl and the manager does not know any programming. I am trying to get them to understand that I have 6 projects to rewrite here but no one has design docs or spec. the staff programmers never had to write any documents. Plus I cant get the manager to understand the new java tech stuff.. he keeps asking some of the staff for views on things but the staff don't know it or understand it. Where do I go from here to make the manager understand that the staff programmers or someone has to write a design document so I know what to build. or if I have to write the documents how do I get the information?

  I have some usage queries for my web app's database, the results of which I want to display graphically. Is there an easy-to-use api that exists for this purpose? I want to show things like average query-time per user (a small user-base), average query time per day, and things like that. I think it would be cool to show these on a two-axis graph. I am displaying this data on my site, so a jQuery/javascript/html solution for rendering information into graphs would be ideal. Thank you :) P.S. • VMPlayer does not flush all outputs to serial port

  I am debugging a Linux kernel in the VMPlayer on Ubuntu 12.04 configured a serial port to a file to see the debug information. However, each time when the kernel panics, only the backtrace stack were printed out instead of all the booting messages. This does not happend on VMPlayer Fusion. • SpriteBatch.Begin() making my model not render correctly

  I was trying to output some debug information using DrawString when I noticed my model suddenly was being rendered like it was inside-out (like the culling had been disabled or something) and the texture maps weren't applied I commented out the DrawString method until I only had SpriteBatch.Begin() and .End() and that was enough to cause the model rendering corruption - when I commented those calls out the model rendered correctly What could this be a symptom of? I've stripped it down to the barest of code to isolate the problem and this is what I noticed. • Is Perforce as good at merging as DVCSs?

  I've heard that Perforce is very good at merging, I'm guessing this has to do with that it tracks changes in the form of changelists where you can add differences across several files in a single blow. I think this implies Perforce gathers more metadata and therefore has more information to do smarter merging (at least smarter than Subversion, being Perforce centralized). Since this is similar to how Mercurial and Git handle changes (I know DVCSs track content rather than files), I was wondering if somebody knew what were the subtle differences that makes Perforce better or worse than a DVCS like Mercurial or Git.

• Make an agenda view google calendar entry display initially as if it had been clicked

  So I've got a google calendar embedded in my web page. It's set to agenda view so when you click on an entry it expands and shows you more information on the entry. I'd like to be able to link to the page w/ the embedded calendar from elsewhere, and have a specific entry already expanded (as if it had been clicked). Is this even possible? I'm not really sure where to start. PS: I don't have enough rep on this SE to create tags... and there isn't already a tag for "google-calendar"...

• Default save directory for gnome-screenshot?

  Are there any sort of configuration options for specifying the default save location for gnome-screenshot, or is this hard-coded into the source code? It used to be ~/Desktop, which seems to have changed to ~/Pictures (in 12.04). The only possible solution I've seen is about Setting the default name (as it includes time stamp information now instead of simply Screenshot#), but that solution doesn't really seem ideal to me. Also, this post suggested that the last save location is remembered the next time you take a screenshot, but in my experience, this doesn't seem to be the case. And in any case, following on from that, that entry in gconf-editor doesn't even seem to accurately reflect the last location, so more than likely an entry related to an older version of gnome-screenshot.
