• NAS disk - problem with accessing SAMBA

  Hello I have a NAS disk running on some version of Linux. The disk is located in local network (5 PC running XP or Vista, all connected to Linksys Router). I have problems accessing NAS resources through SAMBA. The 1st issue is that the NAS is not accessible through hostname (even if it is configured), 2nd point is that it is mostly not accessible through IP manner (\IP_OF_NAS). Rest of services (FTP, HTTP access) works flawlessly. I connected the NAS to my home network (only 1 WinXP and Linsys router) and the NAS is working fine - SAMBA access together with hostname recognition works perfectly. I wonder this is an issue with WINS? Could anybody help? Regards

• Management Reporter Installation – Lessons Learned

  After successfully completing several installations of Management Reporter this year, I wanted to share a few lessons learned that should help you. First, you will want to make sure that you install Management Reporter under a domain account as opposed to a local system or network service account. Management Reporter gives you the option to install under these accounts, but it is a be a best practice approach to use a domain account. Upon installation of Management Report, you will want to make sure that Directory Browsing is enabled within the IIS server of your site or you will have problems when you go to use Management Reporter. By default, it will be disabled in Server 2008 R2 and you will need to make the setting change under the Actions pane shown below. Lastly, you will want to make sure that SQL Server is running under a domain account. I have had multiple situations where reports have been stuck in the Queued status rather than Processing status of Management Reporter. After reviewing resolution 5 of KB 2298248, it was determined that running SQL Server under a domain account is the way to go.

• Windows7 x64 clipboard failure

  Hi. I'm using windows 7 x64 and i need to work with citrix client. Unfortunately my clipboard stops working after 5-10 minutes with citrix apps. I can't copy/paste anything. But on citrix clipboard is still working. Problem disappears after rebooting computer. But it's takes too much time. Is there any way to restart clipboard process or fix this problem without rebooting ? Thanks ! UPD.1 Copy/Paste is broken only on my local computer. It means that when I'm pressing ctrl+c (also when doing the same with mouse) ctrl+v pastes nothing (in GUI menu it's highlighted with gray - disabled). Occasionally it repairs itself when I'm starting rebooting: nsd.exe crashes with some exception, reboot stops and then it works again. But I'm still not sure that problem is in nsd.exe (Lotus notes)

  Howdie Scenario: Allow developers to submit new application packages to a market server. Developers run a bash script which contains a cURL call to market server (localhost/market/submit/$app-name). The submit script on the server creates a new folder in existing svn server with the name of the submitted app. Script on dev side waits for HTTP to issue a success message and then do a svn checkout in dev local machine. Problem: The submit script on the market server failed to create new svn directory through code: echo `svnadmin mkdir -m 'added new package $package' http://localhost/market/packages/$package`; this does not echo nothing and when I go on http://localhost/market/packages, the folder has not been added and the revision number has not been incremented. I've tried from a terminal in market server chown root:www-data /usr/bin/svnadmin but still no luck. Somebody has come acrosss similar problem? Any solutions? Thanks! • ssh port forwarding freezes after 10 simultaneous connections

  Hello. I am using port forwarding to utilize proxy server which is on remote machine. Remote machine hostname is remotemachine. Proxy is listening on 8118 port. I am translating this port to local port 5223. ssh -vvv -N remotemachine -L 5223:localhost:8118 Everything is fine if I don't use more than 10 simultaneous connections, when ssh just freezes. It no longer send data trough port forwarding. I.e. ab -c 10 -t 5 -X 'localhost:5223' 'http://www.google.ru/' works, but ab -c 20 -t 5 -X 'localhost:5223' 'http://www.google.ru/' causes ssh to freeze MaxSessions 30 parameter in /etc/ssh/sshd_config didn't helped at all. What can I do to remove this 10 connection limit? Nothing interesting in -vvv output =(

  I have loadbalancer server and edges. I am trying to configure reverse proxy in order to hide the backend servers PL1,2,3. PL 1,2,3 are not located in same subnet. They are located in different locations. PL1 Lb1 -> PL2 PL3 I tried to configure Apache reverse proxy but it is not sending request to PL1,2,3. Reverse proxy worked only when I configured apache to send request to local server on other port. ProxyRequests Off <Proxy *> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPass /PL1 http://PL1server.com/ ProxyPassReverse /PL1 http://PL1server.com/ The above configuration did not worked. Could you help me to solve the issue. Or is there other proxy types like Squid,Socks5 to solve this issue. Does the reverse proxy fails if we use IP address or domain URL in ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse ?

  I get mixed results when reading information security articles, some of them stating that in order to do something similar you need to also setup some sort of honeypot with a running access point and local Web server to intercept traffic. Then other articles seem to indicate you don't need that, and you can just run Wireshark, and it will detect all packets being sent on the network. How could that be, and what exactly is a packet sniffer doing to get those packets? Does this involve intercepting wireless signals transmitted over the wireless protocol and frequency via the NIC on the computer running a program like Wireshark?

  CONUNDRUM: A laptop review in the UK talks about how brilliant the "ASUS ABCDE 55" is, but in America, France, etc there is no such laptop name. In fact it's called "ASUS 12345 AB" - AAARRGH! QUESTION: Is there a way of finding out all the diverse names for the same laptop all over the world? Example: if Samsung create a R2D2500, then what is that spec laptop called in all the other countries (if they release it of course). Or if it's not released, what is their similar spec laptop called in the other countries? I understand that specs may be different, but if I read a review on my trusted UK website, but live in say Australia, I want to be able to find the name of the same laptop in Australia and then check out local places to buy it. So if anyone knows if there is a technique, specific website, or even how to use a company website to find out these annoying name changes I'd really appreciate it.

• Iphone/Android app – chatroom development – what framework & hosting needs?

  I have some experience regarding IPhone and Android development but I am now struggling to solve a new class of problem: apps that involve a client/server chatroom feature. That is, an app when people can exchange text over the internet, and without having the app to constantly “pull” content from the server. So that problem can’t be solved with a normal php/mysql website, there must be some kind of application running on a server that is able to send message from the server to the phone, rather than having the phone to check for new messages every 10 seconds… So I’m looking for ways to solve the different problems here: What framework should I use on the two sides (phone / server)? It should be some kind of library that doesn’t prevent me to write paid apps. It should also be possible to have the same server for the Iphone and android version of the app. What server / hosting solution do I need with what sort of features, I just have no experience regarding server application that can handle and initiate multiple connections and are hosted on hardware that is always online I tried to find resources online but couldn’t so far, either the libraries had the wrong kind of license/language or I just didn’t understand… Sometimes there were nice tutorial but for different needs such as peer2peer chat over local network… Same with the server and the hosting problem, not sure where to start really, I’m calling for help and I promise I will complete this page with notes about the experience I will get :-) Obviously the ideal would be to find a tutorial I missed that include client code, server code and a free scalable server… That being said, If I see something as good, it probably means that I have eaten the wrong kind of mushroom again… So, failing that, any pointer which might help me toward that quest, would be greatly appreciated.   Hello together, I´ve a big problem. I have to move data from an old Webspace which is only accessibla by ftp. No we have a new root server which is accessible by ssh of course :-) No i Need to move all data from the old space but there is a lot of Gb of files. Is there a way to fetch all files directly from the old ftp to the storage and not over a third station (my local machine)? I´ve tried it with ftp but without success.   I've written a basic game using Cocos2D-x on XCode. It works fine on the iPhone. Now I'm trying to port it to Android. • Configuration Manager Setting Causing Error PRJ0019

  Recently I ran into an issue with a project failing to build on an automated build server using CruiseControl. When I looked into the build log I saw that the Post-Build project was failing with the error message: "error PRJ0019: A tool returned an error code from "Performing Post-Build Event..." This was most frustrating especially since the solution was building without issue on my local development environment. The Post-Build project was a C++ project that basically called several batch files to unregister/register assemblies, copy resources and supporting files, and place other dependencies in the GAC. I decided to run each of the batch files manually to see if that would provide more information as to why this project was failing. This lead me to determine that the batch file that was placing assemblies in the GAC was the culprit and that it was failing to find a particular assembly. The missing assembly was the output of another project. The project that was not producing the expected output was another C++ project that called a batch file. This batch process was actually embedding resource files into an assembly and then copying the assembly to the expected location. The real confusion started when I looked back into my Subversion log and noted that nothing had changed in this project in more than 2 months! It was almost as if the project had stopped building altogether. But what would cause that?! The Configuration Manager, obviously! Checking the solution's Configuration Manager settings, I found that the project that was not producing any output was in fact not selected to be part of the build process when the "Any CPU" platform was selected. This was the problem! I had recently updated the CruiseControl configurations to force the solution to be built targeting the platform "Any CPU". As a result, the project that was at the root of the problem was not configured to be built and the post-build process was failing when it couldn't find what it needed.

• Package manager borked with gforge

  I've been having a problem with the package manager. I seemed to have installed gforge, partially, but it keeps giving me errors whenever I install something. (Note that the thing I'm trying to install actually does get installed, but there is always an error returned). Here it is: Creating /etc/gforge/httpd.conf Creating /etc/gforge/httpd.secrets Creating /etc/gforge/local.inc Creating other includes invoke-rc.d: unknown initscript, /etc/init.d/postgresql-8.4 not found. dpkg: error processing gforge-db-postgresql (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 100 Errors were encountered while processing: gforge-db-postgresql E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) When I try to remove it with: sudo apt-get purge gforge-common I get this: Reading package lists... • Can't telnet to SQL Server

  Hi there, I have an SQL Server running on a computer, and I'm trying to access it from another computer in the same local network (potentially VPN, since it's located in a datacenter). The point is that I can't even telnet to the port in which SQL Server is listening. And yes, SQL Server is working, since I can telnet to it from my workstation. I think it's something in the host, since there's no hop between the two computers, but I don't know how to troubleshoot this. Basically I get a connection failed, when I try to telnet. What can cause such problem, since apparently there's no firewall and the server is accepting connections from other computers? Thanks in advance

• Fabric doesn't launch Nginx remotely

  I want to be able to start and stop an nginx server on an Ubuntu EC2 instance with Fabric. I have this two scripts in my fabfile.py: def start_nginx(): sudo('/etc/init.d/nginx start') #also tried this: run('sudo /etc/init.d/nginx start') def stop_nginx(): sudo('/etc/init.d/nginx stop') The start_nginx() seemingly runs without errors (* Starting Nginx Server.../ ...done.) but doesn't start the server (or it dies immediately). If I SSH into the instance this starts nginx perfectly: sudo /etc/init.d/nginx start The stop_nginx() Fabric script stops the server remotely. I compiled nginx from source, using this http://nginx.org/download/nginx-1.1.9.tar.gz and using this script in /etc/init.d: https://github.com/JasonGiedymin/nginx-init-ubuntu/blob/master/nginx. The only thing I modified is this line: DAEMON=/usr/local/sbin/nginx to DAEMON=/usr/sbin/nginx because that's the path I used when I ./configure-d my compile. Does anyone have any idea why the init script behaves differently being called from Fabric?

  I've got a pluscom pci card plugged into my desktop and although the mac address shows up in network manager, it says "Wireless unavailable". • E-mail addresses with plus sign in MS Exchange

  Many users like to use e-mail address in the format "[user]+[tag]@[domain]" to facilitate local filtering of incoming messages. The semantics of that is that the message should be delivered to the mailbox belonging to "user"; the user would advertise his/her address with different tags to different potential senders and would then be able to filter incoming messages according to sender (and also to track who got the e-mail address from where). The question is: is it possible to get MS Exchange (2007) to deliver messages in this format properly? If so, how exactly? Internet searches seem to imply it is not a possibility...

• Unable to access internal network through PfSense WAN port

  Our branch office is unable to connect to our internal network for some reason. However we can connect to the branch office domain controller from behind PfSense. The following is our setup: |Branch DC - 192.168.0.101 | |Branch Firewall - 192.168.0.2 | |(Internet) | |Local Firewall - 192.168.3.1 | |PFSense WAN port - 192.168.3.100 |PFSense LAN port - 192.168.1.1 | | DC1 - 192.168.1.2|DC2 - 192.168.1.4 Branch DC can ping and connect to PFSense WebGUI on the WAN port successfully (we set this up using the PfSense documentation). DC1 and DC2 can connect outbound to the Branch DC. There seems to be a rule that prevents internal access on the WAN port. However our rules are set to allow all traffic on the LAN and WAN ports. It would be ideal to just disable the firewall altogether since we already have a firewall but when we do this, PfSense doesn't allow any internal traffic at all. I look forward to any assistance and thank you ahead of time.

• Can Linux works as 802.1X authenticator in bridge mode ?

  I want to create a lab for my students with netkit (a network emulator based on 802.1X) to study 802.1X. I can create the authentication server (FreeRadius) and configure the client with XSupplicant connected by a switch (a Linux in bridge mode). I'm looking to a way to configure the switch as Authenticator, i.e.: when the client is connected, the switch only forwards EAP packets to the authentication server. then the switch lets the user access to the local network when the authentication server authorizes the client. At the present time there is a lot of documentation to do this with a wireless point but no one for a switch. Does anyone have an idea or know the good software for it ?
