I'll start with an example - when I get an email and open it on my iPad, there is a feature, which recognizes the timestamp from the text and offers me to create an event in the calendar. Simply told, I want to know theoretically how it's done - I believe it's some kind of semantic parsing, and I would like if someone could point me to some resources, where I can read more about this.

• Should Item Grouping/Filter be in the ViewModel or View layer?

  I'm in a situation where I have a list of items that need to be displayed depending on their properties. What I'm unsure of is where is the best place to put the filtering/grouping logic of the viewmodel state? • [EF + Oracle] Inserting Data (Sequences) (2/2)

  Prologue In the previous chapter we have see how to create DB records with EF, now we are going to Some Questions about Oracle.   ORACLE One characteristic from SQL Server that differs from Oracle is “Identity”. To all that has not worked with SQL Server, this property, that applies to Integer Columns, lets indicate that there is auto increment columns, by that way it will be filled automatically, without writing it on the insert statement. In EF with SQL Server, the properties whose match with Identity columns, will be filled after invoking SaveChanges method. In Oracle DB, there is no Identity Property, but there is something similar. Sequences Sequences are DB objects, that allow to create auto increment, but there are not related directly to a Table. The syntax is as follows: name, min value, max value and begin value. 1: CREATE SEQUENCE nombre_secuencia 2: INCREMENT BY numero_incremento 3: START WITH numero_por_el_que_empezara 4: MAXVALUE valor_maximo | NOMAXVALUE 5: MINVALUE valor_minimo | NOMINVALUE 6: CYCLE | NOCYCLE 7: ORDER | NOORDER 8:    How to get sequence value? EF model, only, imports Table Objects, Stored Procedures or Functions, but not sequences. It takes the connection strings from the App settings, removing the meta data, that was created by VS when generated the EF model. And then, returns the next value from the Sequence. The next value of a Sequence is unique, by that, when some concurrent users are going to create records in the DB using the sequence will not get duplicates. This is my own implementation, I know that it could be several ways to do and better ways. If I find any other way, I promise to post it. To use the example is needed to add a reference to the Oracle (ODP.NET) dll.

• Openmpi 1.6.3 on ubuntu 12.10

  I manually installed the tar.gz of openmpi 1.6.3 on Ubuntu 12.10. But now mpif90.openmpi returns the following: Cannot open configuration file /usr/local/share/openmpi/ mpif90.openmpi-wrapper- data.txt Error parsing data file mpif90.openmpi: Not found How can I get mpif90.openmpi get running again? It was running fine if I install openmpi using apt-get install. But that way I will get only version 1.6.1. Thanks.

• HTMLUNIT Facebook javascript warning

  Hi I am trying to create simple application that would be able to search people on facebook using given e-mail. I am already able to log into an account using the HTMLunit tool and even create a page, which should throw result of my search. But when I try to print the result as XML the file is missing some blocks of javascript results (I can tell that they are missing by comparing file created by my application and source code, that can be viewed by using IE) Is there any way around this? I just need to get the same result IE's showsource function does. Thanks a lot. • Managing scalability and availability with two servers running Apache Httpd, Apache Mina and MySQL

  Hello, I am not a developer and I don't much experience with scalable server architectures. But I am in need of a highly available and scalable system for one of my projects. There is going to be two servers I am going to use for the time being. Both with 4 core CPUs and 8 GB RAM with RAID structures running CentOS 5.4. I will also have feature called "Failover IP" which enables to direct an IP address to another server within short time. The applications which will be run on the servers: There is going to be a Java application based on Apache Mina server for handling TCP requests from some hundreds of network devices where the devices are going to send request as much as one request per minute. Handling those requests, includes parsing the requests and inserting a few rows to the Database. Parsing requests before inserting data to the DB does take neglectable time. There is going to be MySQL server, as I stated above. Also there is going to be a PHP web application running on Apache Httpd Server which uses the same DB with the Java application. What I wish to have is to make use of those two servers at the most. I was imagining to have the servers identical, sharing the work load. MySQL could be a cluster maybe? And if some application fails or the whole machine goes down, the other will continue serving the requests seamlessly. Reminding that a "Failover IP" feature will be available for me to take advantage of. Also, It should be kept in mind that number of servers could increase in time, to meet the demand. What can you suggest? Which kind of tools I can make use of? Which kind of monitoring software (paid/unpaid) I have? Thanks in advance.

  I've got a windows 7 laptop that BSOD with a Service Exception Error when I connect to a wireless network. It also does it when it's just sitting still doing nothing.   I needed some coordinates for a HTML MAP and tried to use inkskape by opening the image and just draw a path with my polygon coordinates. The original image The SVG file from inkscape Link to SVG Progress: I tried a tool called InkscapeMap which looks promising and simple, but unfortunately it looks like it didn't work with this particular svn file. Solved! Saving the file as a Plain SVG solved the problem and InkscapeMap worked perfectly. (Btw. saving as an optimized svg caused a parsing error) Update 13.11 Using inkscapeMap 0.6 and Inkscape 0.48 i needed to uncheck relative coordinates in SVG output preferences. Also if you get a C error message, hunt down the polygon with a C in it, and redraw the polygon using the XML editor in inkscape. • can not connect to SQL running on amazon ec2 machine

  I am using SQL managment studio 2008 running on an Amazon EC2 machine. I am unable to connect to the database in my asp.net application. The EC2 instance has been set to accept connections over the SQL port. I am also able to remote the machine as well as view websites hosted on the server. Listed below is part of the connection string relating to this instance. When the program is ran and this connection string is called, it returns tcp error 0 - no return response. it just times out. <add name="ProjectServer" connectionString="Data Source=*IP ADDRESS HERE*,1433;Initial Catalog=*Catalog Name*;User ID=IP-0A6ED514\Administrator;"/> I removed the ip and the catalog name for the example, but I am sure they are correct. The only thing that I could think may cause an error, is the differences in names between the user id and the server name - the server name is ip-0A6ED514\sharepoint but the user name is ip-0A6ED514\administrator when I log into the sql server manager on the EC2 instance. A password is not used. Not sure if I would need to leave in a blank string for password - also not sure if the difference between server name and user id to log in makes a difference. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. update - when this connection string is used with out the port, i get tcp provider error 40 - when the port is in there, i get error 0 edit- the sql server is using windows authentication - does this make a difference?   On our Citrix farm, I just found out that some sub-components are "Installed on 1st Use" (Advertised), which does play well on terminal servers. Not only that, but you also get a rather non-descriptive error message, when a document tried to use a component, which is "Installed on 1st Use" (described on Plan to deploy Office 2010 in a Remote Desktop Services environment): Microsoft Office cannot run this add-in. An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning correctly. Please contact your system administrator. • How do you setup FTP with IIS Manager Users in an NLB environment with shared IIS configs?

  I've setup a 2 node NLB cluster and used the following to share IIS configs between them. http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2012/05/30/configuring-iis-7-5-shared-configuration.aspx The IIS configs and content is located on a network share via a UNC path. This works - updating IIS settings on one node, is visible in another node and my website works on the individual nodes and the cluster as whole. I'm able to setup an FTP site and successfully connect with my Windows login. However, I want to use IIS Manager Authentication as defined in: http://www.iis.net/learn/publish/using-the-ftp-service/configure-ftp-with-iis-manager-authentication-in-iis-7 I've tried using "Network Service" with the FTP COM object as well as a dedicated user account that exists on all three hosts, but every time I try to login with an IIS user I get something like the following: IISWMSVC_AUTHENTICATION_UNABLE_TO_READ_CONFIG An unexpected error occurred while retrieving the authentication information. • What permission(s) does an application pool identity required to manage other application pools?

  I have a web site (used to manage various parts of our software) that needs the permissions required to start/stop other application pools. I've created a user and set the app pool identity to custom, however the web app still can't start/stop the app pools. I get the following Error: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Filename: redirection.config Error: Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions at Microsoft.Web.Administration.Interop.AppHostWritableAdminManager.GetAdminSection(String bstrSectionName, String bstrSectionPath) at Microsoft.Web.Administration.Configuration.GetSectionInternal(ConfigurationSection section, String sectionPath, String locationPath) at Microsoft.Web.Administration.ServerManager.get_ApplicationPoolsSection() at Microsoft.Web.Administration.ServerManager.get_ApplicationPools() Discussion here suggests setting the application pool to local system or administrator, this does work, but I don't want to do this for security reasons (external support will need access this site). I did give the user higher permissions (as suggested here), starting by making it part of the local administrators group, but initially this didn't work, and giving the user read/write/mod permission on C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config also didn't work. I must have done something wrong as local administrator now works, however this still isn't what I want. So can anyone suggest the permissions I need to add to this user, and how can I apply them? An answer my problem (but different question) is here, but to clarify, I think I need to give an individual user "IIS Runtime Operation Permissions", does anyone know how to do this, if indeed this is the permissions I require?

  I've been reading a lot online about custom URL handlers / custom protocol handlers such as: Launching External Applications using Custom Protocols under OSX OS X URL handler to open links to local files I get that you can tell the system that a particular program is able to handle a certain scheme / protocol with the Info.plist file: <key>CFBundleURLTypes</key> <array> <dict> <key>CFBundleURLName</key> <string>Local File</string> <key>CFBundleURLSchemes</key> <array> <string>local</string> </array> </dict> </array> <key>NSUIElement</key> <true/> But if there are multiple applications that are capable of opening the same URL handler, such as mailto: how do you specify which one you want the system to use? There were some references to utilities like the More Internet preference pane which no longer seems to be available from the author's site. I did find it online by Googling but it seems a bit shaky - like it was written for an older OSX - perhaps Tiger. I haven't been able to find information on how to set the URL handler for protocols and custom protocols. I'm assuming there is a plist file somewhere that I can edit - or maybe there is a newer, better utility that works well with Mountain Lion?

• Prevent outgoing traffic unless OpenVPN connection is active using pf.conf on Mac OS X

  I've been able to deny all connections to external networks unless my OpenVPN connection is active using pf.conf. However, I lose Wi-Fi connectivity if the connection is broken by closing and opening the laptop lid or toggling Wi-Fi off and on again. I'm on Mac OS 10.8.1. I connect to the Web via Wi-Fi (from varying locations, including Internet cafés). The OpenVPN connection is set up with Viscosity. I have the following packet filter rules set up in /etc/pf.conf # Deny all packets unless they pass through the OpenVPN connection wifi=en1 vpn=tun0 block all set skip on lo pass on $wifi proto udp to [OpenVPN server IP address] port 443 pass on $vpn I start the packet filter service with sudo pfctl -e and load the new rules with sudo pfctl -f /etc/pf.conf. I have also edited /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.pfctl.plist and changed the line <string>-f</string> to read <string>-ef</string> so that the packet filter launches at system startup. This all seems to works great at first: applications can only connect to the web if the OpenVPN connection is active, so I'm never leaking data over an insecure connection. But, if I close and reopen my laptop lid or turn Wi-Fi off and on again, the Wi-Fi connection is lost, and I see an exclamation mark in the Wi-Fi icon in the status bar. Clicking the Wi-Fi icon shows an "Alert: No Internet connection" message: To regain the connection, I have to disconnect and reconnect Wi-Fi, sometimes five or six times, before the "Alert: No Internet connection" message disappears and I'm able to open the VPN connection again. Other times, the Wi-Fi alert disappears of its own accord, the exclamation mark clears, and I'm able to connect again. Either way, it can take five minutes or more to get a connection again, which can be frustrating. Why does Wi-Fi report "No internet connection" after losing connectivity, and how can I diagnose this issue and fix it?

• Problems with bash script, mysql inserts and launchd

  ========= I am developing a automated system, which consists of 3 parts: mysql, bash and launchd. Bash script takes folders of work related stuff, zips, archives and puts info about them into database that is located on a local MAMP server. Everything works as expected when I run the script from terminal. But when I use Launchd to automatically run this script, it functions without errors and it does not put the values into database. I've tried to make logs of returned messages, but the logs end up being empty as the command has run the way it was supposed to.
