  • jquery ui autocomplete does't close options menu if there is no focus when ajax returns

    - by Uri
    I'm using jquery ui autocomplete widget with ajax, and on noticed the following problem. Background: In order for the user to be able to focus on the autocomplete and get the options without typing anything, I use the focus event: autoComp.focus(function() { $(this).autocomplete("search", "");} However this produces the following effect: when the user clicks, an ajax request is being sent. While waiting for the response, the user then clicks elsewhere and the autocomplete is blurred. But as soon as the response returns, the options menu pops out, even though the autocomplete has no focus. In order to make it go away the user has to click once inside, and again outside the autocomplete, which is a bit annoying. any ideas how I prevent this? EDIT: I solved this in a very ugly way by building another mediator function that knows the element's ID, and this function calls the ajax function with the ID, which on success check the focus of the element, and returns null if it's not focused. It's pretty ugly and I'm still looking for alternatives. EDIT#2: Tried to do as Wlliam suggested, still doesn't work.. the xhr is undefined when blurring. Some kind of a problem with the this keyword, maybe it has different meanings if I write the getTags function outside of the autocomplete? this.autocomplete = $('.tab#'+this.id+' #tags').autocomplete({ minLength: 0, autoFocus: true, source: getTags, select: function(e, obj) { tab_id = $(this).parents('.tab').attr('id'); tabs[tab_id].addTag(obj.item.label, obj.item.id, false); $(this).blur(); // This is done so that the options menu won't pop up again. return false; // This is done so that the value will not stay in the input box after selection. }, open: function() {}, close: function() {} }); $('.tab#'+this.id+' #tags').focus(function() { $(this).autocomplete("search", ""); }); $('.tab#'+this.id+' #tags').blur(function() { console.log('blurring'); var xhr = $(this).data('xhr'); // This comes out undefined... :( if (xhr) { xhr.abort(); }; $(this).removeClass('ui-autocomplete-loading'); }); and this is the getTags function copied to the source keyword: function getTags(request, response) { console.log('Getting tags.'); $(this).data('xhr', $.ajax({ url: '/rpc', dataType: 'json', data: { action: 'GetLabels', arg0: JSON.stringify(request.term) }, success: function(data) { console.log('Tags arrived:'); tags = []; for (i in data) { a = {} a.id = data[i]['key']; a.label = data[i]['name']; tags.push(a); } response(tags); } })); console.log($(this).data('xhr')); }

  • Troubles with list "dropdowns" and which list item gets the dropdown

    - by Andrew
    I'm working on a project for an MMO "guild" that gives members of the guild randomly generated tasks for the game. They can "block" three tasks from being assigned. The lists will look something like this: <ul> <li class="blocked">Task that is blocked</li> <li class="blocked-open">Click to block a task</li> <li class="blocked-open">Click to block a task</li> </ul> The blocked-open class means they haven't chosen a task to block yet. The blocked task means they've already blocked a task. When they click the list item, I want this to appear: <ul class="tasks-dropdown no-display"> <li><h1>Click a Task to Block</h1></li> <ul class="task-dropdown-inner"> <?php //output all tasks foreach($tasks as $task) { echo '<li class="blocked-option"><span id="'.$task.'">'.$task.'</span></li>'; } ?> <br class="clear" /> </ul> </ul> I don't quite know how, when the user clicks the .blocked-open line-item, to show that dropdown under only the one they clicked. My jQuery looked like this before I became confused. $("li.blocked-open").click(function() { $("ul.no-display").slideToggle("900"); }); $(".blocked-option span").click(function() { var task = $(this).attr('id'); alert("You have blocked: " + task); location.reload(true); }); I tested it by putting the dropdown under a line item in the code, and it worked fine, but when I have more than one dropdown in the code, clicking on one line item toggles all the dropdowns. I'm not sure what to do. :-p.

  • node.js with SQL Server Native Client 11 scope_identity not being returned

    - by binderbound
    I'm having trouble with inserting a value into a database through node.js. Here is the offending code: sql.query(conn_str ,"INSERT INTO Login(email, hash, salt, firstName, lastName) VALUES(?, ?, ?, ?, ?); SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() AS 'Identity';" , [email, hash, salt, firstName, lastName], function(err, results){ console.log(results) } Unfortunately, the console is just echoing [], meaning results is an empty array, I suppose. Does anyone know why the identity is not being returned? Even if it was null, why isn't results then [{Identity: null }] ? Database is on Azure, which does have a "Scope_Identity" function, and the native client also recognises this function. Using node package "msnodesql" Please Help

  • HTMLInputElement in IE7

    - by Vladislav Qulin
    I'm writing an extension for crossbrowser input&textarea selection getter and setter. So that's the way i write my code: HTMLInputElement.prototype.getSelectionRange = get_selection_range; HTMLInputElement.prototype.setSelection = set_selection_range; HTMLTextAreaElement.prototype.getSelectionRange = get_selection_range; HTMLTextAreaElement.prototype.setSelection = set_selection_range; get_selection_range and set_selection_range are those extended functions. So i just wanted to replace someInputElement.selectionStart = a; // and whole lot of code due to browser someInputElement.selectionEnd = b; // compatibility with just someInputElement.setSelection(a, b); someInputElement.setSelection({ start: a, end: b }); someOtherElement.setSelection(someInputElement.getSelection()); But then i met couple of difficulties in IE7. First of all, IE7 doesnt know what is HTMLInputElement. I don't want to extend whole Object. Well, that would be the last thing i'll do, but i want to evade it. Functions get_selection_range and set_selection_range are alright, don't ask what's within, you've seen it couple of times already. So the question is: is there any legit substitution for HTMLInputElement in JS for IE7?

  • jquery background image rotating script doesn't work

    - by Catfish
    I'm writing this script to rotate a background Image every 3 seconds but it doesn't work at all and i'm stumped as to why not. $(document).ready(function() { var inc = 0; var bgImages = new Array(); bgImages.push("../Images/backgroundDog-small.jpg"); bgImages.push("../Images/backgroundDog1-small.jpg"); bgImages.push("../Images/backgroundDog2-small.jpg"); bgImages.push("../Images/backgroundDog3-small.jpg"); setInterval(change, 3000); function change() { //if we're not at the end of the array if (inc < (bgImages.length)) { var image = bgImages[inc]; $('body').css('backgroundImage', image); console.log(image); inc++; //reset the counter inc and go through the array again } else { inc = 0; } } });

  • how do i see if a big JSON object contains a value?

    - by Haroldo
    I'm using PHP to json encode a massive multi-dimensional array of events, so i get something like this: var ents = {"7":{"event_id":"7","nn":"The Whisky Drifters","nn_url":"the-whisky-drifters","venue":"The Grain Barge","date_num":"2010-06-11","date_txt":"Friday 11th June","gig_club":"1","sd":"A New Acoustic String Band...","ven_id":"44","art":0},"15":{"event_id":"15","nn":"Bass Kitchen","nn_url":"bass-kitchen","venue":"Timbuk2","date_num":"2010-06-11","date_txt":"Friday 11th June","gig_club":"2","sd":"Hexadecimal \/ DJ Derek \/ Id","ven_id":"21","art":1}, the first dimension is the id, see var ents = {"7":{ So its possible to get the ids without examining the nested objects... What's the fastest, most efficent way to check if my JSON contains an id?

  • Why is Chrome miscalculating jQuery submenu dimensions?

    - by chunkymonkey
    I'm trying to implement this dropdown menu with flyouts: http://jsfiddle.net/chunkymonkey/fr6x4/ In Chrome certain categories can be expanded to show their subcategories while others show nothing when opened up. For example: Alternative Rock can be expanded to show its multiple subcategories . . . BUT . . . World Music, which has as many subcategories, shows no subcategories when expanded. (SCREENSHOT: http://i.imgur.com/0WorR.jpg) I thought I had tracked this problem down to a problem with they way the dimensions of the dropdown elements are calculated in the original code: First change: - var newLeftVal = - ($('.fg-menu-current').parents('ul').size() - 1) * 180; + var newLeftVal = - ($('.fg-menu-current').parents('ul').size() - 1) * container.width(); Second change: Remove: var checkMenuHeight = function(el) { if (el.height() > options.maxHeight) { el.addClass('fg-menu-scroll') }; el.css({ height: options.maxHeight }); }; Add: var checkMenuHeight = function(el) { var max_height = options.maxHeight - breadcrumb.getTotalHeight(); if (el.height() > max_height) { el.addClass('fg-menu-scroll'); el.height(max_height); topList.height(max_height); } else { if (topList.height() < el.height()) { topList.height(el.height()); } } }; But it's still not working only on Chrome (version 8, Windows & Mac) (not sure why Chrome is different).

  • jQuery datepicker - change "today" date?

    - by Newbie
    Hello! Is there a way to change the "today" date in jquery.ui datepicker? With today, I mean today (class="ui-datepicker-today") and not the minDate or the current-selected date! I figured out, that datepicker uses the system time for default values. Now I get the current date from my server and set it to my minDate. But I didn't find a way to set the today-date... It still uses my system date (there are some users out there whose systemdate is in the year 2000 or earlier). Can U help me plz?

  • Web Application Loading Screen

    - by Matt Charlton
    I have a web app that has several tree views. When the page loads i see the unordered lists and after a small latency the styling of the tree is rendered into the DOM. Is there a way to mask the webapp, and have a spinner in the middle of the screen, and when everything on the page is fully rendered the spinner goes away and the mask fades out? Kind of like a semi transparent mask that you would see on a lightbox pop-up dialog.

  • Why am I getting a syntax error after my Json result?

    - by Mike
    I'm using Json to retrieve data from a database, construct some html, and put it to the page, but I'm getting a syntax error after my tag, which is the last tag in the string from my php file. PHP if($QString == ""){ $query = "SELECT * FROM categories"; $result = mysql_query($query); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC)) { $categories="<a href=" . '"' . "?catID=" . $row['catID'] . '"' . ">" . $row['CatName'] . "</a><br>"; echo $_GET['jsoncallback'] . $categories; } } jQuery var jSon = {}; $(function(){ jQuery.jSon.getjSon(); }); jQuery.jSon = { getjSon : function () { $.getJSON('http://host6.spellnet.net/links/list.php?jsoncallback=?', function(json) { eval(json.data); }); } Any Help would be greatly appreciated. I'm getting closer and closer.

  • How can developers use a similar tracking link to Google's results page?

    - by Peter Jones
    I've read heaps of pages of people trying to implement some kind of tracking system similar to the way Google reroutes search link. Eg: Search "Facebook" in Google, open in a new window, and the link changes to something like: "http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBkQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2F&rct=j&q=Facebook&ei=sksZTZexJobJccXnxZYK&usg=AFQjCNHTTNi-O4Qgrg6kvGVfKJuRqbuOKw&cad=rja" I'm guessing Google tracks that click and then redirects to the actual site by reading the url parameter. What I wanted to know is if there was a simple way that you can make this kind of functionality work using an onclick event - just change the link href after being clicked to redirect? There's a few threads, but from what I could find, nobody has actually succeeded without problems or limitations. Thanks in advance.

  • Listing localstorage

    - by Blondie
    I did my own feature using this: function save(title, url) { for (var i = 1; i < localStorage.length; i++) { localStorage["saved-title_" + i + ""] = title; localStorage["saved-url_" + i + ""] = url; } } function listFavs() { for (var i = 1; i < localStorage.length; i++) { console.log(localStorage["saved-fav-title_" + i + ""]); } } save() happens when someone clicks on this: onclick="save(\'' + title + '\', \'' + tab.url + '\');"> ' + title + '</a>'; However... it doesn't show the saved localStorages, how am I supposed to make it work?

  • Recommendations for easy jQuery Autocomplete using AJAX that will set form value based on selected t

    - by Ben Dauphinee
    I am looking for suggestions on the easiest to set up and use AJAX Autocomplete plugin that will use JSON key/value pairs. I want a plugin that supports setting the form value to the key of the name selected. I have been working with jQuery UI Autocomplete, but it is a total pain in the rear to get this working. Does anyone know of anything that actually supports this out of the box, or have a thread or page where this is already detailed?

  • How to reference a specific object in an array of objects using jTemplates

    - by Travis
    I am using the excellent jTemplates plugin to generate content. Given a data object like this... var data = { name: 'datatable', table: [ {id: 1, name: 'Anne'}, {id: 2, name: 'Amelie'}, {id: 3, name: 'Polly'}, {id: 4, name: 'Alice'}, {id: 5, name: 'Martha'} ] }; ..I'm wondering if it is possible to directly specify an object in an array of objects using $T. (I'm hoping there is something like $T.table:3 available) Currently the only way I can think of to access a specific object in an array is to do something like this... {#foreach $T.table as record} {#if $T.record$iteration == 3} This is record 3! Name: {$T.record.name} {#/if} {#/for} However that seems clumsy... Any suggestions? Thanks

  • jQuery .queue() not working as expected

    - by Andrew
    The page in question is right here: http://s289116086.onlinehome.us/lawjournaltv/index.php I'm 90% of the way there, I'm just assuming there's an error with my syntax. Focus on the blue callout area with "Workers' Compensation" as the title: Basically, I've created a little slideshow there with the controls at the top and when you click on any of them both the callout and the background are to slide. As you can see it's working now, but the problem is that I want the new background to slide in over the old one. I've tried several things including the queue() method, delay(), and adding everything else to the animate() callback with no success (right now the background goes black and then the new image slides in). You guys have never let me down before, so I'm hoping this is an easy fix. Thanks in advance!

  • Safari extension cookies not recognized/passed

    - by Alex
    I've recently been porting a Chrome extension to Safari, and encountered this kind of error (bug, feature, etc.) So, in global page i have a XMLHTTP request to a secure page which is available only after you login. Example: I simply login using browser - as usually you do on facebook or other secure pages After that, in global page, I load a login-only-available xmlhttp - and it says i'm not logged in it seems that global page somewhat has it's own cookies, so a secure page thinks i'm new ps: in Chrome i can load that page and it thinks i'm acting on behalf of logged in user, so i guess there are some restrictions in Safari pps: i heard there's a Block third-party cookies option in Safari, but even if i checked it to "Never block" it still doesn't work

  • Using HTTP status codes to reflect success/failure of Web service request?

    - by jgarbers
    I'm implementing a Web service that returns a JSON-encoded payload. If the service call fails -- say, due to invalid parameters -- a JSON-encoded error is returned. I'm unsure, however, what HTTP status code should be returned in that situation. On one hand, it seems like HTTP status codes are for HTTP: even though an application error is being returned, the HTTP transfer itself was successful, suggesting a 200 OK response. On the other hand, a RESTful approach would seem to suggest that if the caller is attempting to post to a resource, and the JSON parameters of the request are invalid somehow, that a 400 Bad Request is appropriate. I'm using Prototype on the client side, which has a nice mechanism for automatically dispatching to different callbacks based on HTTP status code (onSuccess and onFailure), so I'm tempted to use status codes to indicate service success or failure, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone has opinions or experience with common practice in this matter. Thanks!
