• Communication between java server and matlab client

  I'd like to establish a server(Java)/client (Matlab) communication using socket. They can send messages to each other. An example shows how to do this in Java server and Java client, http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/networking/sockets/clientServer.html. When I try to rewrite the client part in Matlab, I only can get the first message that the Java server sends and display it in the Matlab command window. When I type a message in the Matlab command window, I can't pass it to the Java Server. Jave code: kkSocket = new Socket("localhost", 3434); Matlab equivalent: kkSocket = Socket('localhost', 3434); Java code for client: out = new PrintWriter(kkSocket.getOutputStream(), true); in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(kkSocket.getInputStream())); What would be a Matlab equivalent for this? I need to control the copy process from a central file server, in a way that helps me know: which user performed the copy Which files were copied where did he pasted them Total size of data copied Time of copy operation If user exceeds the allowed "Copy-Limit", a dialog box requests him to enter administrative credentials or deny him (as it would be configured) Store all this data in a file for later review or send by email. I need to collect this data by putting a utility program on the server itself, without any other installation on client computers. I know about monitoring the Clipboard, but which clipboard would it be? the user's clipboard or the server's clipboard ? And what about drag-drop operation, which doesn't even pass through the clipboard? Any knowledge of whether SystemFileWatcher is useful in such case ? Any ideas ?

• Flash AS3 - Dispatching Events from Parent Class to Child Class

  I think this is a pretty simply problem but I do not seem to be able to pull it off. Basically I have a parent class A, and a child class B. Class A instantiates class B with addChild. There is a shared object which is being updated from a java server (red5) that has an event listener attached to it in class A. I have a function in class A which will pass certain, specific updates from this shared object to class B. The problem occurs is that when class B is instantiated, the event listener from class A doesn't work anymore. I have not removed the event listener from A. Any thoughts?

The final step is actually installing Wordpress, which usually involves pointing your browser to install.php and filling out a form in the GUI. • how to manually add a cookie to Mechanize state?

  [I'm working in Ruby, but my question is valid for other languages as well.] I have a Mechanize-driven application. The server I'm talking to sets a cookie using javascript (rather than standard set-cookie), so Mechanize doesn't catch the cookie. I need to pass that cookie back on the next GET request. The good news is that I already know the value of the cookie, but I don't know how to tell Mechanize to include it in my next GET request. Pointers or suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance. -ff

• Find out 20th, 30th, nth prime number. (I'm getting 20th but not 30th?) [Python]

  The question is to find the 1000th prime number. I wrote the following python code for this. The problem is, I get the right answer for the 10th , 20th prime but after that each increment of 10 leaves me one off the mark. I can't catch the bug here :( count=1 #to keep count of prime numbers primes=() #tuple to hold primes candidate=3 #variable to test for primes while count<20: for x in range(2,candidate): if candidate%x==0: candidate=candidate+2 else : pass primes=primes+(candidate,) candidate=candidate+2 count=count+1 print primes print "20th prime is ", primes[-1] In case you're wondering, count is initialised as 1 because I am not testing for 2 as a prime number(I'm starting from 3) and candidate is being incremented by 2 because only odd numbers can be prime numbers. I know there are other ways of solving this problem, such as the prime number theorem but I wanna know what's wrong with this approach. Also if there are any optimisations you have in mind, please suggest. Thank You

• IE won't start session from an iframe?..

  The task was to bypass login form on remote server with a session_id acquired through a call to server's web API. So that user wouldn't have to login twice. Since there's no way to set cookies for different domain. What we came up to was - put a little file on remote server, to which we pass encrypted session_id from hidden iframe and which is supposed to start a proper session for a remote app, which is then loaded in another iframe. This approach works fine in FF/Chrome, but not IE... However if I copy url to self-made remote authorization script from iframe's src attribute to to IE's address bar and load it from there, session get's created as expected. But for some reason it just doesn't want to do the same from an iframe. Does anyone have any clue, why this is happening?

  Hi, when I need to pass an array to a function, it seems all the following declarations of the function will work void f(int arr[]) void f(int arr[4]) // is this one correct? for this: int a[]={1,2,3,4}; f(a); But when I assign an array to another array, it fails int a[]={1,2,3,4}; int b[4] = a; // error: array must be initialized with a brace-enclosed initializer So why an array passed as an argument of a function is okay, but used on the rhs of simple assignment is wrong?   I work on something in Seattle Repy which is a restricted subset of Python. Anyway, I wanted to implement my own Queue that derives from a list: class Queue(list): job_count = 0 def __init__(self): list.__init__(self) def appendleft(item): item.creation_time = getruntime() item.current_count = self.job_count self.insert(0, item) def pop(): item = self.pop() item.pop_time = getruntime() return item Now I call this in my main server, where I use my own Job class to pass Jobs to the Queue: mycontext['queue'] = Queue() # ... job = Job(str(ip), message) mycontext['queue'].appendleft(job) The last line raises the following exception: Exception (with type 'exceptions.TypeError'): appendleft() takes exactly 1 argument (2 given) I'm relatively new to Python, so could anyone explain to me why it would think that I gave appendleft() two arguments when there obviously was only one?

• Deleting objects through foreign key relationship with T-SQL query

  Looking for a way to write the following LinQ to entities query as a T-SQL statement. repository.ProductShells.Where(x => x.ShellMembers.Any(sm => sm.ProductID == pid)).ToList().ForEach(x => repository.ProductShells.Remove(x)); The below is obviously not correct but I need it to delete respective ProductShell object where any ShellMember contains a ProductID equal to the passed in variable pid. I would presume this would involve a join statement to get the relevant ShellMembers. repository.Database.ExecuteSqlCommand("FROM Shellmembers WHERE ProductID={0} DELETE FK_ProductShell", pid); I have cascade delete enabled for the FK_ShellMembers_ProductShells foreign key, so when I delete the ProductShell it will delete all the ShellMembers that are associated with it. I am going to pass this statement to System.Data.Entity Database.ExecuteSqlCommand method.

  I am getting a conversion error every time I try to submit a date value to sql server. The column in sql server is a datetime and in vb I'm using Date.today to pass to my parameterized query. I keep getting a sql exception Conversion failed when converting datetime from character string. • What is the equivalent to IScriptControl for Web.UI.Page?

  We've been using IScriptControl to tie javascript objects to our UserControls and ServerControls, and it's worked fine. The problem is that ASP.NET seems to provide no method to tie a javascript object to a Page. Up to now, we've been putting plain functions in the global namespace, but I am developing a serious allergy to that practice. It'd be easy enough to wrap our functions into a javascript class, and to include the javascript file on the page, but how to instantiate the object, how to reference it from callback events, and how to pass data to it from the code-behind, I haven't figured out. Or rather, the methods we've been using up to now (hidden fields, emitted javascript strings, etc.), really bug me. Anyone have better ideas?

  I have been loading an assembly via Assembly.LoadFrom(@"path"); and then doing Type t = asm.GetType("Test.Test"); test = Activator.CreateInstance(t, new Object[] { ... }); and it was working fine, but now I moved the dll I am getting the following System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. --- System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissons.SecurityPermission, etc .. For the sake of brevity it seems the demand was for an PermissionSet that allowed ControlAppDomain and it's not getting it. My question is how can I create this permissionset and pass it to the instance or assembly? I've been googling for hours to no avail.

Because of reasons beyond my control I'm using Perl 5.8.8 so I can't use the smart match operator. TIA

• getting data problem with MYSQL under linux

  Hi all, Recently I started to use Linux (Ubuntu 9.10) instead of windows. I am working on a java web application with Spring, MYSQL with jpa. However, before to install linux I made a backup file from the database, then installed linux, installed the MYSQL Query Browser and Administrator tools, and using the Admin tool restored the backup file, then got all the tables and made a simple select statement from one of the tables and got result normally and everything seems to work just fine. There a USER table, and there's a namedQuery defined to get a user by userName, the problem is that when I pass a correct userName I still get nothing! I really don't know what is the problem! The application was working perfectly under windows! Please, can anyone help me to solve this problem? Thank you in advance.

• How come checkbox state is not always passed along to PHP script?

  I have an HTML form: <form action='process.php' method='post'> <input type='checkbox' name='check_box_1' /> Check me!<br> </form> Here is a section from the PHP script process.php: echo (isset($_POST['check_box_1']))?'Set':'Not set'; The output of the script when the checkbox is set is Set But when the checkbox is not set, the output is: Not set Why is this? This seems like a very poor design because my PHP script checks a number of $_POST variables to make sure they were passed along to the script. When the $_POST['check_box_1'] value is not set, then how do I know whether the script failed to pass along the value or the checkbox was just not set?

  I know all about this exception, read the msdn article here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312629/EN-US/ but I do not know how to handle this when my boss does not want me to throw in false for the Response.End. So what other option is there other than putting false as this param? He's stating to catch it and do something...ok do what? I don't see any other fix than to send false into this call every time because I can't get pass this exception..I get it every time.

  Hi, I am in the process of making a webapp, and this webapp needs to have a form wizard. The wizard consists of 3 ModelForms, and it works flawlessly. But I need the second form to be a "edit form". That is, i need it to be a form that is passed an instance. How can you do this with a form wizard? How do you pass in an instance of a model? I see that the FormWizard class has a get_form method, but isnt there a documented way to use the formwizard for editing/reviewing of data?

• Do I need to include the 'this' when using a property name in a closure?

  I'm using a list of Actions to store an undo history for an object. Let's say I have a property of my object called myChildObject and it's being changed, so I want to store the undo action where I would set it back to it's current value: public class Class1 { public Class1() { } private readonly List<Action> m_undoActions = new List<Action>(); private SomeObject myChildObject { get; set; } public void ChangeState(SomeObject newChildObject) { // copies the reference SomeObject existingObject = myChildObject; m_undoActions.Add(() => myChildObject = existingObject); myChildObject = newChildObject; } } Looking at the lambda expression, existingObject is a local variable, so it's using a closure to pass a reference to that variable, but what about the property myChildObject? Do I need to use 'this' to preface it? Do I need to make a copy of the 'this' reference to a local variable first? Thanks for helping me understand this closure stuff.
