• Changing the Column order/adding Newcolumn for existing Table in SQLServer2008

  Hi I have situation where I need to change the order of the columns/adding new columns for existing Table in SQLServer2008, It is not allowing me to do without drop and recreate. But That is in production system and having data in that table. I can take backup of the data, and Drop the existing table and change the order/add new columns and recreate it, insert the backup data into new Table. Is there any best way to do this without dropping and recreating.I think SQLServer 2005 will allow this process without dropping and recreating while changing to existing table structure. Thanks

• w3wp.exe in ASP.NET production app is using 100% CPU. How to find the problem ?

  Hi, we have an asp.net app in production where w3wp.exe is taking 100% CPU ( 4 cores - 4 threads at 25% ) and cpu load never goes down until we recycle the application pool ( the app is alone in the application pool ). Our error log has nothing, there is no exceptions being emitted ( or at least we don't catch them ) so we suspect it's code problem ( infinite loop / deadlock ). The problem only arises after some hours running with high load ( several thousand users ). There is any way to profile one of the EXISTING threads that is causing cpu load ? After taking a look to JetBrains's DotTrace Profiler seems like it's not possible for limitations of Profiling API and man, we haven't get to reproduce the problem in our testing environment. The app uses SQL Server 2005, LINQ2SQL and System.Transactions API. Any suggestion to find the problem ?

  Hi, I have a database working in mu local sql server 2005 express edition. I have to import my local dtabase to a remote servr database. For that i established connection to that remote server, and i can now see that database . but when i tried to restore database fro my local machine i'm getting an error message when i tried to give backup file location. Below is the error message The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'xp_availablemedia', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'. The user does not have permission to perform this action. The statement has been terminated. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 229) waht is the problem, how can i solve this. Please help me

• sql db problem with windows authentication

  Have a SQL Server 2008 db which I connect to the Windows Authentication .. has worked good for 7-8 months .. but now when I come to work today it no longer worked to connect, without that I had done something Error message was: Can not open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'Jimmy-PC \ Jimmy'. where the first is the computer name and the second is the user. The problem seems to be that it tries to connect to the default database. Have tried to change it without success .. I do not have sql server management tools for sql 2008 but only to 2005, someone who has similar experience? who have not touched anything said over the weekend and it worked last Friday without any problems.

  Hey guys, I'm working with pyODBC communicate with a MS SQL 2005 Express server. The table to which i'm trying to save the data consists of nvarchar columns. query = u"INSERT INTO tblPersons (name, birthday, gender) VALUES('" query = query + name + u"', '" query = query + birthday + u"', '" query = query + gender + u"')" cur.execute(query ) The variables name, birthrday and gende are read from an Excel file and they are Unicode strings. When I execute the query and either look at the table with SQL Server Management Studio or execute a query that fetches the data that was just inserted, all the data that was written in a non-English languages turn into question marks. The data that was written in English is preserved and appears in the table in the correct way. I tried adding CHARSET=UTF16 to my connection string, but had no luck with that. I can use UTF-8 which works fine but as a working convention, I need all the data saved in my DB to be UTF16. Thanks!

Each time I try to call the ListChildren method I get an insuffient permission exception. I found that the vcbuild.exe always call the "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Csc.exe /noconfig .." the problem is how can I change the Framework version to v3.5? I found my project works fine with the v3.5 but it's broken in the v2.0.50727. I try to use msbuild.exe instead of vcbuild.exe, everything goes well, I just don't understand how can I make it with the vcbuild.exe? win7+vs2005+vs2008 installed.

• Problem with extern keyword in C++

  What's the difference between the following two declarations? I thought they were equivalent, but the first sample works, and the second does not. I mean it compiles and runs, but the bitmap display code shows blank. I have not stepped through it yet, but am I missing something obvious? GUI_BITMAP is a simple structure describing a bitmap. This is for VC++ 2005, but I think it fails in VC++ 2008 also. Scratching my head on this one...   Hi, I recently started to use AjaxControlToolkit v3.0.30930.0 in my application together with System.Web.Extension 3.5. My development environment is Visual Studio 2005, .NET Framework 2.0 and the development language is C#. The Ajax control I used is the ModalPopupExtender. I also used the UpdatePanel and updateprogress controls. Everything is working fine on my development machine. But I got a problem after I deployed the application to a server which does not have System.Web.Extension 3.5 installed, which is understandable. My question is, can the ajax controls I used work without System.Web.Extension 3.5? Say I revert the ajaxcontroltoolkit back to version 1.0.61025.0? I don't have the option to install .NET 3.5 as yet. Thank you for your help. John

  I once built a very good web application in ASP (classic) back in 2001 and extensively used XmlHttpRequest object in it. (I was lucky that the clients were only using IE, and only IE supported this object at that time). Then later when people started talking about AJAX in 2005, It felt good to have used something ahead (or early) of its time. Well, maybe this does not qualify to be listed as something done ahead of its time. Which programming technology/technique/practice have you done that was ahead of this time.   Hi, The question is about Armenian. I'm using sql server 2005, collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS, data mostly is in Armenian and we can't use unicode. I tested on ms sql 2008 with a windows collation for armenian language ( Cyrillic_General_100_ ), I have found here, ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188046.aspx ) but it didn't help. I have a function, that orders hex values and a lower function, which takes each char in each string and converts it to it's lower form, but it's not acceptable solution, it works really slow, calling that functions on every column of a huge table. Is there any solution for this issue not using unicode and not working with hex values manually?

  Hello all, I have a web application which needs to allow admins to create content pages. I'd rather not re-invent the wheel here. What I need is something like Joomla, but it doesn't have to be a full fledged CMS. I need a framework or a library that I can use with my current web application which will present a nice interface for admin to create sections/pages, and then edit and style them just like joomla. My web application is built on .Net 3.5 and Sql Server 2005. Any ideas?

  Hopefully some Custom Control Designers/Builders can help I'm attempting to build my first custom control that is essential a client detail collection form. There are to be a series of elements to this form that require various styles applied to them. Ideally I'd like the VS 2005/2008 properties interface to be able to apply the CSSClass as it does at the control level, i.e. with a dropdown list of available CSS Clases. For more information, contact your system administrator." When I RDP into the server and try Microsoft CRM Workflow Manager/Monitor with http or https connectivity, it doesn't work. "The specified Microsoft CRM server is not responding. This might happen if it is currently unavaliable, it is not a Microsoft CRM server, or you are not a valid user. Contact your sys-admin." This is a Microsoft CRM v3.0 / Microsoft SQL server 2005 box, Active directory is on a seperate box.. When I right click Microsoft CRM Worlkflow Service, properties, log on: it shows "crmtestuser" and a password. I did not RDP or try logging in as that crmtestuser, but I am Admin... Could this be a clue? What can I try?

  Hi All, Is there a way to update the PDB file with the new source location ? I have a project which links to some libraries which are built on another machine and are debug build with the PDB file. I cannot put a breakpoint in the files which are compiled in the libs. These libs take more than 4 hours to build so I dont want to buid them on my machine.   I'm trying to come up with a way to query the values in two different columns in the same table where the result set will indicate instances where the value of columnB doesn't contain the value of columnA. For example, my "Nodes" table contains columns "NodeName" and "DNS". The values should look similar to the following: NodeName DNS Router1 Router1.mydomain.com I want to run a query to show which rows have a DNS value that does not contain (or begin with) the value of the NodeName field. I think the query should function something similar to the following, but obviously I'm missing something with regard to the use of "Like" in this situation. SELECT NodeName, DNS WHERE DNS NOT LIKE 'NodeName%' I'm using SQL Server 2005, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... :)

  Can anyone point me in the direction of how I could get a NUnit test to run a .sql file to Create / Setup a database. I know about the the TestFixtureSetUp and TestFixtureTearDown attributes / methods in NUnit. So I KNOW how to call methods before and after all or each unit tests. I'm just unsure of how to load and execute the contents of a .sql file agains a SQL Server 2005 database programatically. Any examples? This is part of our TDD / CI. • SQL Server Mutliple Joins Taxing CPU

  I have a stored procedure on SQL server 2005. It is pulling from a Table function, and has two joins. When the query is run using a load test it kills the CPU 100% across all 16 cores! I have determined that removing one of the joins makes the query run fine, but both taxes the CPU. Select SKey From dbo.tfnGetLatest(@ID) a left join [STAGING].dbo.RefSrvc b on a.LID = b.ESIID left join [STAGING].dbo.RefSrvc c on a.EID = c.ESIID Any help is appreciated, note the join is happening on the same table in a different database on the same server.

• SSIS web service task parsing result.

  I have an ssis (2005) package that uses the web service task to download to a file destination. The file contains a string of xml data. After downloaded the file looks like this. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?> <string>--here is XML data with escaped characters--</string> My thought was I could then use the XML source data flow source to pull the <string> data, but when I set this up the XML source will not read the <string> as a column. It will generate an xsd and it seems normal, but no luck seeing the column. Any ideas on getting this to work? Or would there be a better way to pull the data within the file generated from the web service? Thanks.

  Hi. We have some Delphi code that uses the BDE to Access SQL Server 2008 through the SQL Server Native Client ODBC driver (2005 version). Our issue is that we're experiencing some deadlock issues in a loop doing inserts to multiple tables. The whole loop is done within a [TDatabase].StartTransaction. Looking at the SQL Server Profiler we clearly see that at one point during the loop the SPID (Session ID?) change, and then we naturally end up with a deadlock. (Both SPID doing inserts to the same table) It seems like the BDE at some point does a second connection to the DB... (Although I would love to skip the BDE, it's currently not possible. ) Anyone with experiences to share?

  I am developing large data collecting ASP.Net/Windows service application-pair that uses Microsoft SQL Server 2005 through LINQ2Sql. Performance is always the issue. Currently the application is divided into multiple larger processing parts, each logging the duration of their work. This is not detailed and does not help us with anything. It would be nice to have some database tables that contain statistics that the application itself collected from its own behavior. What logging tips and data structures do you recommend to spot the parts that cause performance problems?
