• How to add "most recent emails from this user" to Gmail inbox as a sidebar

  I use and love gmail. However, since i use email for customer support, I'm always doing a cross reference lookup via the search feature to see my past conversations with the person whose email I'm reading. I'd love to have a right sidebar widget that shows me, for any email I choose to read, the list of previous conversations/emails with that person. Is this possible? I'm using Chrome Ideally, this sidebar would bump or replace the contextual ads that now display over there.

• high resolution on small screen size

  I have recently got an intel ultrabook,but its screen size is 13.3' and the native resolution is 1600X900.So the problem is that the letters that appear on screen are very small.Reducing resolution blurs the display and making everything bigger also doesn't feel very good.is there a way to get around this problem without changing hardware. I am even ok with this high resolution but I am concerned about the harmful effects it might have on my eyes in long term. Any advice will be very useful.Please help

  What roles do the Xorg server and a window manager, for example, metacity, play in displaying windows? Does the window manager communicate with the OS or Xorg? Does Xorg then use OpenGl to display things? Can someone explain what exactly the Xorg server does, and what exactly the window manager does, and the differences between the two.   There's a headless Ubuntu instance used as a host for our build server. I have some UI code that requires some graphical output. Installing a vnc4server and redirecting a DISPLAY to it worked like a charm. Not that my UI tests are running but test scripts can take screen shots. Problem is that I need to set the resolution that vnc4server uses to serve the graphical content. Does anybody know how to configure it on Ubuntu server?

  I have port forwarded our front-facing IP to an internal HTTPS server. The browser does not connect. A wget command determines that the certificate is self-signed for the internal IP. • Is it possible, via GPO or other method, to turn Internet Explorer's intranet compatibility mode OFF across a domain?

  Our school's VLE has a few problems when running in IE8/IE9's Compatibility View. Mainly it causes difficulties with uploading files. This problem is easily remedied by un-ticking the Display intranet sites in Compatibility View option from Internet Explorer's Compatibility View options. However, I'm unable to find a way of doing this en masse. I can't find anything regarding this in GPO - would a registry hack or similar do the trick? Thanks in advance,

  A very strange issue - Windows Explorer doesn't display the drives connected to my machine. I did make some changes to my setup a while back with the Local Group Policy Editor to disable the "Aero Shake" behavior, so I may have inadvertently enabled or disabled something related to this, but to be honest, I don't remember when the behavior actually started. Any ideas? This is a Windows 7 machine.

  Vim shows non-printable characters prefixed with a ^ (for instance ^@ for a NUL byte). I have a column based file containing both printable and non-printable characters which is difficult to read, since each non-printable character shifts all remaining columns one character to the right. Is there a way to hide non-printable characters or simply display a placeholder char instead? I also don't mind having every character be represented by two characters.

Is there anyway this can be had on windows?   When I double click on My Computer, I can immediately see the Total size and Free space for internal and external HDDs, and inserted CD/DVD media, but in the same columns I cannot see these values for any USB flash drives. They are just empty. To see, I have to right click on USB drive letter, and select Properties. Is there a trick to make Windows XP display USB drive's Total size and Free space in My Computer window?

  Is it possible to set Microsoft Word to display some text left-aligned and other text right-aligned on a single line? • Security camera for HQ and remote sites?

  We want to install security cams at HQ site and 3 remotes sites. Basically: (1) Each site would have N cams (2) Each site should have DVR locally to record everything. What we want is that HQ to be able to see the live/recorded videos of each remote site and including itself.   I just purchased a new ultrabook (Asus UX32VD). Awesome laptop, but I am having trouble using it with its native resolution being 1920 x 1080. Text is so small and hard to read. I have increased the text size in the display options but it don't really improve it for all scenarios, especially in webpages. I am wondering if there is a possible solution to this? Simply lowering the resolution makes everything look pixelated.

  I got used to OS X way of doing things (separate shortcuts for switching between applications and switching between current application's windows). Is there a way to get Compiz to have a shortcut (such as Super+Tab) to switch between applications ("window groups") instead of between windows? I already got the "Scale" plugin (an expose clone) to display only windows from current window group, proving there is a way to group by application, but I cannot find a way to get the "Application Switcher" to switch between these groups instead of between windows themselves.

  We have a win 7 home prem pc, amd cpu, 8G ram, plenty of free disk space. Whenever user is working in publisher 20003, and tries to save a publisher 2003 document to the desktop, the save as dialog hangs and takes 2-3 minutes to display the desktop save location. I've tested excel 2003, it has no problems immediately displaying the desktop save as location and saving the file.

• Network folder image thumbnails taking long time to load

  Our internal network folder can take up to 5 seconds to generate a thumbnail for each photo in a network folder. Usually, only 10% of thumbnails actually display; the rest are default jpg icons. A thumbs.db file already exists inside this folder, so presumably the thumbnails have been generated before. Why do they have to be generated again? The PC is Win7 64-bit. The server is Windows 2003 Server SP2.
