  • Model class for NSDictionary information with Lazy Loading

    - by samfu_1
    My application utilizes approx. 50+ .plists that are used as NSDictionaries. Several of my view controllers need access to the properties of the dictionaries, so instead of writing duplicate code to retrieve the .plist, convert the values to a dictionary, etc, each time I need the info, I thought a model class to hold the data and supply information would be appropriate. The application isn't very large, but it does handle a good deal of data. I'm not as skilled in writing model classes that conform to the MVC paradigm, and I'm looking for some strategies for this implementation that also supports lazy loading.. This model class should serve to supply data to any view controller that needs it and perform operations on the data (such as adding entries to dictionaries) when requested by the controller functions currently planned: returning the count on any dictionary adding one or more dictionaries together Currently, I have this method for supporting the count lookup for any dictionary. Would this be an example of lazy loading? -(NSInteger)countForDictionary: (NSString *)nameOfDictionary { NSBundle *bundle = [NSBundle mainBundle]; NSString *plistPath = [bundle pathForResource: nameOfDictionary ofType: @"plist"]; //load plist into dictionary NSMutableDictionary *dictionary = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithContentsOfFile: plistPath]; NSInteger count = [dictionary count] [dictionary release]; [return count] }

  • objective-c releasing uninitialized class members in dealloc method

    - by Dude Man
    Regarding over-releasing. Say I have a instance variable defined in Test.h NSString *mystring; In my implementation Test.m I do not initialize the variable mystring anywhere. But I release it in dealloc: -(void)dealloc { [mystring release]; } Is this now over-released? I've been doing the following in dealloc to avoid any issues, however, is this really necessary? -(void)dealloc { if (mystring) [mystring release]; } It seems that [nil release] shouldn't do anything, can someone verify this with class members?

  • NSUserDefaults: detecting nil

    - by alJaree
    I have some code in my classes to read from NSUserDefaults NSUserDefaults *defs = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; score = [defs integerForKey:@"score"]; this causes a crash. Im guessing it is because the score value is nil or doesnt exist. How can I check if it is nil? EDIT. The following code causes a crash when storing to NSUserDefaults. NSUserDefaults *defs = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [defs setInteger:0 forKey:@"score"]; [defs setInteger:3 forKey:@"lives"]; [defs release]; Im not sure what the issue is On some crashes there isnt even a crash report in the console. Thanks

  • NavigationController does not set view properties correctly when pushed

    - by Sheehan Alam
    I have a UITabBarControllerDelegate that pushes a new view controller when a certain tab is pressed: - (void)tabBarController:(UITabBarController *)tabBarController didSelectViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController { MyView* myView = [[[MyView alloc] initWithNibName:@"MyView" bundle:nil]autorelease]; if([self.tabBarController.selectedViewController.title isEqualToString:@"Friends"]){ NSLog(@"Clicked Friends"); myView.reloadFriends = TRUE; [self.navigationController myView animated:YES]; } } However, if I change my code to set the tabbar's selected view controller to myView everything works, but I don't get my navigation bar: if([self.tabBarController.selectedViewController.title isEqualToString:@"Friends"]){ NSLog(@"Clicked Friends"); myView.reloadFriends = TRUE; self.tabBarController.selectedViewController = myView; } How can I set the reloadFriends property in MyView and have the navigation bar at the top?

  • reloading table

    - by edie
    Hi... I've have a table view that consist of item list that depends on the item that were purchased using in app purchasing. My question was how can I reload the tableView when the purchasing was completed/(or when new item was added on my list). The response of the storekit takes time to complete. Are there anyways to tell the app that the purchasing was completed and new item was added on my list so that I can reload my tableView. At this time I reloading my table view by adding [myTableView reloadData] in viewWillAppear method. But what if the user was already viewing the tableView, I can't reload the tableView because the viewWillAppear had passed. thanks...

  • FBConnect Demo Application

    - by gmcalab
    I am running the demo application that is supplied with the facebook-ios-sdk. The application starts in the emulator, with a LogIn button. I click the button which then launches safari to grant access to the application. I log in with my fb creds and allow the application. I am the administrator for the application and I have verified I put in the right app key. After I allow access, it says "Safari cannot open the page because the address in invalid"...this is the url it's trying to go to: http://www.facebook.com/connect/uiserver.php... So am I missing something because the breakpoint for (void)fbDidLogin never gets hit...

Cheers

  • Is Core Animation causing my subviews to call -drawRect for every single frame?

    - by mystify
    I made a nice UIView subclass which paints all its stuff in -drawRect:, because people said that's good. That view is a subview of another. This another view is beeing animated with Core Animation: It's scaled down, rotated and moved. However, I encountered this: -drawRect seems to get called trillion of times during animation, and performance sucks. Is that normal or did I do something wrong, probably?

  • Manually changing keyboard orientation for a view that's on top of a camera view

    - by XKR
    I'm basically trying to reproduce the core functionality of the "At Once" app. I have a camera view and another view with a text view on it. I add both views to the window. All is well so far. [window addSubview:imagePicker.view]; [window addSubview:textViewController.view]; I understand that the UIImagePickerController does not support autorotation, so I handle it manually by watching UIDeviceOrientationDidChangeNotifications and applying the necessary transforms to the textViewController.view. Now, the problem here is the keyboard. If I do nothing, it just stays in portrait mode. I can get it to rotate by adding the following code to the notification handler. [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarOrientation:interfaceOrientation]; [textView resignFirstResponder]; [textView becomeFirstResponder]; However, the following simple test produces weird behavior. Start the app in portrait mode. Rotate the device 90 degrees clockwise. Rotate the device 90 degrees counterclockwise (back to the initial position). Rotate the device 90 degrees clockwise. After step 4, instead of the landscape-mode keyboard, the portrait-style keyboard is shown, skewed to fit in the landscape keyboard frame. Perhaps my approach is wrong from the start. I was wondering if anyone has been able to reliably make the keyboard change its orientation in response to setStatusBarOrientation.

  • Push notification not received in ios5 device

    - by Surender Rathore
    I am sending push notification on device which has iOS 5.0.1, but notification is not received on iOS5 device. If i try to send notification on iOS4.3.3 device, it received on this device. My server is developed in c# and apple push notification certificate is used in .p12 format. My code to register the notification is - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { // Override point for customization after application launch. // Set the navigation controller as the window's root view controller and display. deviceToken = nil; self.window.rootViewController = self.navigationController; [self.window makeKeyAndVisible]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] enabledRemoteNotificationTypes]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] registerForRemoteNotificationTypes: UIRemoteNotificationTypeBadge | UIRemoteNotificationTypeSound | UIRemoteNotificationTypeAlert]; return YES; } - (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithDeviceToken:(NSData *)devToken { UIAlertView *alertView=[[UIAlertView alloc]initWithTitle:@"Succeeded in registering for APNS" message:@"Sucess" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Ok" otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alertView show]; [alertView release]; deviceToken = [devToken retain]; NSMutableString *dev = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; NSRange r; r.length = 1; unsigned char c; for (int i = 0; i < [deviceToken length]; i++) { r.location = i; [deviceToken getBytes:&c range:r]; if (c < 10) { [dev appendFormat:@"0%x", c]; } else { [dev appendFormat:@"%x", c]; } } NSUserDefaults *def = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [def setObject:dev forKey:@"DeviceToken"]; [def synchronize]; NSLog(@"Registered for APNS %@\n%@", deviceToken, dev); [dev release]; } - (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didFailToRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithError:(NSError *)error { NSLog(@"Failed to register %@", [error localizedDescription]); UIAlertView *alertView=[[UIAlertView alloc]initWithTitle:@"FAILED" message:@"Fail" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Ok" otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alertView show]; [alertView release]; deviceToken = nil; } - (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didReceiveRemoteNotification:(NSDictionary *)userInfo { NSLog(@"Recieved Remote Notification %@", userInfo); NSDictionary *aps = [userInfo objectForKey:@"aps"]; NSDictionary *alert = [aps objectForKey:@"alert"]; //NSString *actionLocKey = [alert objectForKey:@"action-loc-key"]; NSString *body = [alert objectForKey:@"body"]; // NSMutableArray *viewControllers = [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:[self.navigationController viewControllers]]; // // if ([viewControllers count] > 2) { // NSRange r; // r.length = [viewControllers count] - 2; // r.location = 2; // [viewControllers removeObjectsInRange:r]; // // MapViewController *map = (MapViewController*)[viewControllers objectAtIndex:1]; // [map askDriver]; // } // // [self.navigationController setViewControllers:viewControllers]; // [viewControllers release]; //NewBooking,"BookingId",Passenger_latitude,Passenger_longitude,Destination_latitude,Destination_longitude,Distance,Time,comments NSArray *arr = [body componentsSeparatedByString:@","]; if ([arr count]>0) { MapViewController *map = (MapViewController*)[[self.navigationController viewControllers] objectAtIndex:1]; [map askDriver:arr]; [self.navigationController popToViewController:[[self.navigationController viewControllers] objectAtIndex:1] animated:YES]; } //NSString *sound = [userInfo objectForKey:@"sound"]; //UIAlertView *alertV = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:actionLocKey // message:body delegate:nil // cancelButtonTitle:@"Reject" // otherButtonTitles:@"Accept", nil]; // // [alertV show]; // [alertV release]; } Can anyone help me out with this issue. Why notification received on iOS4.3 device but not on iOS5? Thank you very much!!! in advance

  • Received memory warning on setimage

    - by Sam Budda
    This problem has completely stumped me. This is for iOS 5.0 with Xcode 4.2 What's going on is that in my app I let user select images from their photo album and I save those images to apps document directory. Pretty straight forward. What I do then is that in one of the viewController.m files I create multiple UIImageViews and I then set the image for the image view from one of the picture that user selected from apps dir. The problem is that after a certain number of UIImage sets I receive a "Received memory warning". It usually happens when there are 10 pictures. If lets say user selected 11 pictures then the app crashes with Error (GBC). NOTE: each of these images are at least 2.5 MB a piece. After hours of testing I finally narrowed down the problem to this line of code [button1AImgVw setImage:image]; If I comment out that code. All compiles fine and no memory errors happen. But if I don't comment out that code I receive memory errors and eventually a crash. Also note it does process the whole CreateViews IBAction but still crashes at the end. I cannot do release or dealloc since I am running this on iOS 5.0 with Xcode 4.2 Here is the code that I used. Can anyone tell me what did I do wrong? - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Do any additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. [self CreateViews]; } -(IBAction) CreateViews { paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask ,YES); documentsPath = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; //here 15 is for testing purposes for (int i = 0; i < 15; i++) { //Lets not get bogged down here. The problem is not here UIImageView *button1AImgVw = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(10*i, 10, 10, 10)]; [self.view addSubview:button1AImgVw]; NSMutableString *picStr1a = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; NSString *dataFile1a = [[NSString alloc] init]; picStr1a = [NSMutableString stringWithFormat:@"%d.jpg", i]; dataFile1a = [documentsPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:picStr1a]; NSData *potraitImgData1a =[[NSData alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:dataFile1a]; UIImage *image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:potraitImgData1a]; // This is causing my app to crash if I load more than 10 images! //[button1AImgVw setImage:image]; } NSLog(@"It went to END!"); } //Error I get when 10 images are selected. App does launch and work 2012-10-07 17:12:51.483 ABC-APP[7548:707] It went to END! 2012-10-07 17:12:51.483 ABC-APP [7531:707] Received memory warning. //App crashes with this error when there are 11 images 2012-10-07 17:30:26.339 ABC-APP[7548:707] It went to END! • CALayer Sublayers Flipping

    - by user128647
    Hello All, How to Flip CALayer Sublayer. i have tried : CGFloat timeOffset = 0; CABasicAnimation *animation = [CABasicAnimation animationWithKeyPath:@"transform"]; CATransform3D transform = CATransform3DMakeRotation(M_PI/2, 0, 1, 0); animation.timingFunction = [CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseIn]; animation.toValue = [NSValue valueWithCATransform3D:transform]; animation.duration = 0.2; animation.beginTime = CACurrentMediaTime() + timeOffset; animation.fillMode = kCAFillModeBoth; animation.removedOnCompletion = NO; [selectedLayer addAnimation:animation forKey:nil]; timeOffset += 0.1; in this code selected layer is not flipping properly, Give me some suggestions. Thank you

  • callbacks via objective-c selectors

    - by codemonkey
    I have a "BSjax" class that I wrote that lets me make async calls to our server to get json result sets, etc using the ASIHTTPRequest class. I set it up so that the BSjax class parses my server's json response, then passes control back to the calling view controller via this call: [[self delegate] performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(bsRequestFinished:) withObject:self waitUntilDone:YES]; ... where "bsRequestFinished" is the callback method in the calling view controller. This all worked fine and well until I realized that some pages are going to need to make different types of requests... i.e. I'll want to do different types of things in that callback function depending on which type of request was made. To me it seems like being able to pass different callback function names to my BSjax class would be the cleanest fix... but I'm having trouble (and am not even sure if it's possible) to pass in a variable that holds the callback function name and then replace the call above with something like this: [[self delegate] performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(self.variableCallbackFunctionName) withObject:self waitUntilDone:YES]; ... where "self.variableCallbackFunctionName" is set by the calling view controller when it calls BSjax to make a new request. Is this even possible? If so, advisable? If not, alternatives? EDIT: Note that whatever fix I arrive at will need to take into account the reality that this class is making async requests... so I need to make sure that the callback function processing is correctly tied to the specific requests... as I can't rely on FIFO processing sequence.

  • Recording audio from many source/microphones

    - by user657429
    I'm curious if it's possible to record audio from many sources and if not, what's the limitation. Many current devices have two internal microphones (basically for noise reduction). On top of that it's possible to plug additional external one using audiojack. You can as well have another audio stream via bluetooth headset. You are allowed to specify AudioSource in android but is it possible to do recording from many sources at the same time? I'm also interested how the situation look like on the iOS devices.

  • release object of a return method object c

    - by Piero
    in run the app with the analyze build, and Xcode found me a lot of memory leak and there is one in particular that i don't know how solve here it is: - (UIView *) tableView:(UITableView *)tableView viewForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { UIImageView *sectionImage = [[UIImageView alloc] init]; if (section == 0)sectionImage.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"myImage.png"]; return sectionImage; } so my question is, how i can release this sectionImage? if is the return of the method? EDIT: i have another question, analyze give me another memory leak, i have this: .h @property (nonatomic, retain) NSIndexPath *directCellPath; .m @synthesize directCellPath = _directCellPath; - (id)init{ if ((self = [super initWithNibName:@"MyViewController" bundle:nil])) { self.directCellPath = [[NSIndexPath alloc] init]; } return self; } then in the code i use it and finally in the dealloc i do this: - (void)dealloc { [_directCellPath release]; [super dealloc]; } and give me a memory leak on this line: self.directCellPath = [[NSIndexPath alloc] init]; why if i have deallocated it in the dealloc?

  • How can I create a transparent tableview with each cells being transparent?

    - by wolverine
    I tried all this inside - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath 1.tableView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; 2.cell.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; 3.cell.contentView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; It only responds to the 1st line and makes the background a translucent kind of black. What should I do to get 100% transparency?

  • Why does UITableViewCell have a contentView property?

    - by mystify
    What's the point of this contentView property? I mean: Why aren't all the subviews just added to self? Let me get that right: Every cell is a view (UITabvleViewCell is a UIView subclass). And this fat view has another fat view with same bounds sitting on top of it, called contentView. That contentView then carries all those other subviews. Now why didn't they save that extra chunk of memory? Is there any genius logic behind this decision? Would love to understand the reason for this.

  • Add a background image to tables in a navigation view in a tabbed application

    - by padatronic
    Hi people, I have a tabbed application which then has a navigation controller. In each the navigation controller I an a table View Controller which obviously contains a table. I push a new table view controller from this one. I want to put a background to the table but can only add an image infront of the table. I think this may be because I am adding the sub view in the table view controller, but I don't seem to be able to add it anywhere else. Please could you help me, thanks.
