• Roaming Profiles, Folder redirection or... both

  Hello, i'm developing a remote desktop services in w2008r2. Now, it's going to be a server, but in the future it's possible that another server could be added to the farm. Now, i'm creating roaming profiles and folder redirection to save space. Now, i have some doubts... if i'm redirecting all the folders i can do through gpo (start menu, desktop, appdata, My Documents, Videos, Music...), does it make sense to use roaming profiles? I mean, i'm redirecting almost everything. So, if i don't use roaming profiles, what kind of data is not shared/roamed? Perhaps is not necessary and if i set roaming profiles, i will add more unnecessary complexity to the infraestructure. What do you think about? Some advice or recomendation? Thanks!

  Hello: I need to know a name of a company to fix my server install and get my sites running again. Windows 2008 IIS 7 Plesk 9.x The problem started when Level 2 of my hosting company adjusted a FTP users to have certain permissions....apparently he did this outside of plesk and it has been nothing but permission headaches all around. Connections....uploading files, etc. now somethings gone wrong where plesk isnt even loading properly and IIS too... I need to see if someone can fix this remotely before I give the green light to format and reinstall server, IIS, Plesk and Domains! looking to pay a company to get this working ASAP - This is not requested as a free job so I need someone good and who can fix it without the huge hassle of formatting and such.   I'm trying to enable NTLM authentication on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine with IIS 7.5 for a specific file in my web root. I've been following these instructions http://docs.moodle.org/en/NTLM_authentication#IIS_Configuration In the IIS Manager I open the Authentication module, disable anonymous authentication and enable Windows Authentication however according to every post I can find on the matter I should have a 'providers' option appear but I don't. I've double checked in Server Manager that the 'Windows Authentication' security feature is enabled for IIS. Any help anyone can offer would be great, Thank you!

  Without configuring apache to support SNI, can I purchase a SSL cert and use on a Centos Linux server that has 2 name-based Vhost? I'm only interested in securing ONE of the two domains. Could this be configured in the httpd config file, such as maybe listing the domain that needs to be secured, first etc? I know SNI can be used for multiple certs on a single server with multiple domains. In my case, I'm only interested in securing a single domain.

  I have Lighttpd on Centos 5 with Fcgi and Memcached. Periodically, once per week or two i get internal server error 500 and i must manually restart lighttpd to get it to work again. In my lighttpd config I've defined error log file: server.errorlog = "/home/lxadmin/httpd/lighttpd/error.log" But when I open it, it has no rows for last days, only one month ago. So my question is how to diagnose what is the issue and how to enable error log for my configuration?

• Remote desktop session ends abruptly with a "protocol error"

  Intermittently we get a problem where a remote desktop session will get disconnected with the error message “Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again.” We are getting this with one server only which is running Windows Server 2008, connecting with Windows 7 clients. The session itself stays running, you just get disconnected, and you can try and reconnect. Sometimes you get in for a while then it will kick you out. We are connecting from Windows 7 clients. We have tried connecting using Cord on a Mac and this works fine, so it's not like the session itself is corrupted. One problem is that there are some critical applications running under the session (I know, let's not discuss the idiocy of that), so we cannot reset the session in any way during the working day – so any diagnostics must have minimum impact.   I followed the phpmyadmin setup and changed the config to require ip my ipaddress and allow from my ipaddress and its still telling me forbidden You don't have permission to access /phpmyadmin on this server. when I try to access the page on my browser (my server is not located on my machine). I installed everything using root. I also chmod 775 the entire phpMyAdmin folder. Im running RHEL 6.1. Any idea what to do at this point?   When attempt to browse my Mercurial repositories it usually takes several refreshes before the repository list is displayed. The configuration is as follows: Windows Server 2003 (Dedicated machine hosted by http://www.server4you.com/. Site has anonymous password protection with self-signed SSL. Mercurial 1.5.3 Python 2.6.5 Python for Windows 32 extensions 214 py2.6 isapi-wsgi 0.4.2 The repositories are being served via ISAPI using the standard hgwebdir_wspi.py file (copy to follow). Other problems with the repository server: Before doing a clone/push/etc I have to browse the repositories first otherwise hg on my local machine can not locate the site.   Receiving HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable when trying to access exchange web access. Server 2003 & Exchange 2003 Have tried: Deleting virtual directories and rebuilding them in IIS Restarting Dismounting & mounting the public folder store & mailbox store It's not AppPoolQueueLength Restarting all services (all proper ones are running) Making it use ssl or not (regular http) -- same thing for both Installing IIS & exchange 2003 on a new 2003 box as a new FE server, OWA on that gets same error. Not sure why it's getting a 503... was working without an issue and randomly is stuck at this no matter what; ll users can still successfully connect and use via outlook, only the web access is having issues. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• Windows 7 Printing to a network printer

  We have a 2008 server as our print server. Clients that use windows xp with a logon script to map have no problems printing. When I test printing to a network printer on a windows 7 machine it works fine up to a few machines as soon As i get 12-15 workstations trying to print, when they log in they get the yellow exclamation mark and needs troubleshooting against the printer name. It is being deploy by group policy. I have tried to deploy it by group policy also by group policy preferences and by using a script and i get the same error whatever i try. Does anyone have any suggestions to try and troubleshoot? Once again Windows xp clients have no issues printing at all. It is only windows 7 clients. Thanks

• Can't connect to domain computers until reboot

  I have a domain with about 300 Windows 7 and XP machines, with the domain controllers running Server 2003. Sometimes, I lose the ability to communicate/authenticate with some of the machines until I reboot my computer. This also happens from other computers and regardless of user account and operating system. In other words, say I'm on ComputerA, and I can't connect to ComputerX. I can go to ComputerB and connect to ComputerX, but ComputerB may not be able to connect to ComputerY. If you reboot ComputerA, then it will be able to connect to ComputerX again. Here are some messages from various utilities: sc: [SC] OpenSCManager FAILED 1722: The RPC server is unavailable. mmc (compmgmt.msc): Computer (computer name) cannot be managed.   I know the answer is, depends on how you configure it... But bare with me - our IPSec Site-to-Site VPN is configured by one of the most trusted hosting companies. One of our clients expressed concerns that "Windows Server 2008 Server IPSEC is not ICSA certified and lacks some of the common features for maintaining VPN stability" (they refer to the lack of "auto keep live" feature). They also are saying that "Windows platforms are not recommended as VPN endpoints due to security concerns and this is one reason that the ICSA testing labs will not certify it as a valid IPSEC solution" (I couldn't find a proof to this one) Are there any whitepapers or references that can prove the security of Windows IPSec implementation?   I'm running Ubuntu Server 9.10 with Postfix and Webmin. I have created virtual hosts for 3 domains following this serverfault.com answer. But the mail isn't relaying out to the world. I have 3 domains tied into my DNS in webmin, as well as inside DNS clicked Mail Server and followed that instruction using this article on the web. The domains and the web servers work just fine. I also have FTP working just fine. So, the remaining problem I have is mail. Can't forward mail out to a Gmail account for some reason. Note I'm just trying to do the "easy version" of Postfix config and if your answer is in Webmin-ease, that would help me. However, I can edit a text file if you suggest.

  Hi, I am using SQL server 2008 Standard edition. I am using Policy based management with policies which come with SQL server during installation. I want the policies to only look at events that happened in last 24 hours. For example for "Windows Event Log System Failure Error" policy if system restarted unexpectedly 5 days ago, i don't want to be alerted daily. • ISA - Why do i suddenly need to specify settings on the client machines?

  Have been pulling my hair out over this one for hours, and wondering if someone can help. I have a server with two network interfaces that was running isa 2004 and humming until i installed sbs service pack + isa 2004 service pack 3. Grrrrrrrrrr I can get the client machines to connect to the internet but only by installing the ISA Client on each machine or setting proxy settings etc in the internet settings. Ideally i want the client machines to just work with no configuration or proxy server settings as they were before. • Can I run a site search like Lucene on a single 2 gig server that's also a web & mysql server

• Running Mathimatica-5 remotely

  Ok, I have Mathmatica 5 - a powerful CAS. I have a cheap netbook, wich not olny is too slow to run mathmatica on, I doubt it has the harddrive space. I do however have remote access to a number of very powerful computers, (most of wich run variose linuxes, but one of which is windows server 2008) Mostly over SSH but other protocols can be arraged for some, i'm sure. (I might even be able to remote desktop the windows server 2008) So I'ld like to install Mathmatica onto one of these machine and then run it remotely. Either from the command line via putty or via some other method. I glanced through the mathmatical documentaion and read soemthing about using some MathLink program, wich linkes the front end istalled on my computer to a remote kernal. Anyone have any expirience with this? I'm not sure if this belongs here or in SuperUser.
