• IIS 7 throws 401 responses on application whose physical directory has been shared

  I have an IIS 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 box with a relatively fresh install. I've deployed a .NET 2.0 application using windows autentication to the server, and from the default website, added it as an application. I updated the IIS authentication to enable Windows Authentication. When I went to share out the physical directory for the application so that a developer could deploy updates, the users began to receive 401 errors. I can reliably recreate the issue by sharing out the directory of any newly created application. The IIS user has the necessary read/write access to the directory. What do I need to do to keep web users from receiving 401's while at the same time allowing this developer to have access to the physical directory for deployments? Thanks in advance!

I don't want to stress this box too much, so I wonder: How scure can postfix be? Will I stress server beyond needed with antivirus and mail filters? and postfix? Server is with 2gb ram, e5600 nothing fancy a simple pc.

What I would like to know, how many visitors can use the multiple web sites concurrently, before I need to migrate each of the sites to their seperate servers? So in laymans terms, how much RAM does a web-page user take on average? For example, how many concurrent visitors can I have on my server, running an Apache server, with 512mb RAM?

• Problem remotely managing Exchange Server 2010

  I can't connect to the instance of exchange server 2010 through EMC on the local machine running w2k8 r2. I've checked all the default website bindings, the kerberos auth and WSMan are set to native type in powershell and I still get this error message. • Accessing the Local System Account to accept a software licence

  Hi All, I have a server at the moment running ColdFusion which is being used to access a windows whois program on the server. Each time I call this command via ColdFusion (using cfexecute) the command times out. I believe the issue is because the first time a user runs the .exe file they are asked to accept the licence. ColdFusion is currently set to run under the Local System account and I am just wondering if it is possible to somehow log into this account and run the program manually via the console so that I can accept the licence. I guess my only other option is to change the account ColdFusion runs under, but I would rather not do this.

• Is there any danger in disabling windows firewall on a azure worker role?

  I'm trying to troubleshoot a bug on our Azure worker role where we occasionally get the error "Unable to read data from the transport connection: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine". This error occurs when we are connecting to outside resources like google auth servers. A few people have recommended disabling the firewall\antivirus on the server. I'm just wondering what kind of security risk we would take by doing this. The server doesn't have iis installed but would it be vulnerable to hacking without the firewall? Thanks

• SCSI driver installation trouble

  I tried to install the driver of Adaptec 39320A-Ultra 320 SCSI card in Win2003 Server R2 SP2 in a DELL PowerEdge 2950 Server. I selected the driver from the list of drivers present in windows. But it says that the device could not be started(Code 10). I tried to put the card in a system that already had the driver installed. It worked fine. So there is no problem with the hardware. I even tried downloading the driver from the manufacturer website. When I try to select install from path and install that driver, it tell no matching driver found. When I install the default driver from windows, it shows the card in SCSI group of device manager, but with an ! symbol. Also the device ID in driver details was different from that of the one present in other system where it insalled fine. Any suggessions to solve it?

• Misbehaving Network Printers - options?

  We are having some issue with printers on our network. We have 3 floors, 2 printers per floor (A3 & A4) all connected to the same Print Server. The issue is that the same printer may not behave the same on two different, seemingly identical desktops. The commonest place this is seen on our bulk print script in AutoCAD - occasionally drawings may print Landscape on Portrait paper, despite drawings always being Landscape... Does any one have any suggestions on what we can check / try? The current line of attack is to setup a new Print Server, with the HP universal print driver rather than the device specific drivers, and replace printers using exactly the same method on all desktops. Sound good?

  I'm trying to execute a pipe on a remote server by using psexec. The command that I'm trying to execute is psexec \\servername DSQUERY USER -name *userpart* | DSGET USER -samid -display Currently, the | pipe symbol get executed locally which is not what is wanted (since dsget does not exist on my machine). I tried to use quote around the whole command psexec \\servername "DSQUERY USER -name *userpart* | DSGET USER -samid -display" but that resulted in psexec trying to run that whole quoted sentence as one executable, which obviously does not exist. How can I pass a pipe symbol to the remote server so that it can execute it?

• Which software to use for RAMDISK on Windows 2008?

  I am building a server machine with lots of RAM. At least 16G. I am planning to put my frequently read and written data in RAM so I am looking for software for creating RAM disks. This is for Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64bit. Any recommendations? I would like one where I can flush the disk image into persistent storage upon demand. For example when Windows shuts down. (I am aware of all the consequences of data loss when power is lost)

  Hi All, Is it possible to emulate my customer production environment inside my AD domain by just creating the same domain inside my primary DNS server ? Can I created mycustomer.com DNS zone (STUB) just for the sake of listing few database servers and application servers and then for the other DNS records eg. MX, NS and the other refer to the REAL MX record entry so that my Exchange Server email flow is unaffected to mycustomer.com ? because if I just create A record in my current domain for some of the servers, the FQDN is not exactly what I want. But, from the finder window, if I click on Shared->All->srv-fichier1->Personnel->conujer, I have access to the directory. I don't understand why I cannot connect straight to conujer.

  I am using KVM on Ubuntu Server 10.04. and Virtual Machines are running on it in LVM. I have to migrate some of them to Vmware server.How can I achieve this? I searched and came across some links but they all talked converting vmdk images to qcow or so.In this case I have OS in LVM. I also looked at man page of qemu-img and as I understand it should do what I am asking in this thread. But how exactly should I proceed in this case.Since it is not a file based image (OS running in an LVM which has filesystem in that LVM). So I am not able to understand what should I be doing to achieve the same. Can I achieve the above with snapshots of LVMs rather than shutting down the VM itself.

• Commit charge peak higher than system limit

  We are seeing some very strange behaviour on our servers and google didn't turn up anything usefull, so I'm tossing it out here. A standard server is configured with 4GB Ram, 2 4GB pagefiles and running windows server 2003. The servers are running 50-120 vb6/.net applications which normally consume no more than 100mb of memory, but will occasionally run up to 300 mb. The issue with a single process spending way too much memory is being traced down somewhere else, but the thing that is baffling us is that the reported peak charge is vastly higher than what we have available. As the image above shows, we are getting reported peaks that are way higher than what the system is actually capable of delivering. This number has been seen as high as 29GB, which makes no sense at all for a system with a limit of 12GB. Does anyone have an idea what is going on?

The message could not be delivered because the recipient's destination email system is unknown or invalid. Please check the address and try again, or contact your system administrator to verify connectivity to the email system of the recipient. #5.3.1 However, like I said before I can select their name from the GAL and send mail that way. Their email address is exactly the same in both the GAL and distribution group. The only difference is these users have external email addresses. Windows Server 2003 Exchange Server 2003 Outlook 2007 and 2010.

• Unable to access the server via SSH

  when I am trying to access the server through ssh it says: ssh: connect to host xx.yyy.zzz.x port 22: Connection refused and on the server in auth.log it shows following log entry: Address xx.yyy.zzz.x maps to xx.yyy.zzz.x.static-pune-vsnl.net.in, but this does not map back to the address - POSSIBLE BREAK-IN ATTEMPT! I have created a user account for that user and it is also in enabled status.   I download a big file of .Net 3.5 SP1 from http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe Now when I try to install it on Windows Server 2012, I get the following screenshot: What the?? When will the microsoft learn? Now this is a loop. When I try to install from Server Manager, I get installation cannot be done. It needs installation disk. Does that mean I can't install at all without the installation disk in presence?

I've create that and it works when I access it on local network, but when I access it from outside of local network (internet) the www.mysite.com:502 can't accessed but the www.mysite.com can accessed. what should I do to make www.mysite.com:502 goes online?
