• weird characters displayed during serial communication OSX

  I have tried communicating via serial (OSX w/ prolific drivers - USB RS232 adapter - Tx,Rx and GND pins on device serial ttl port) to a device and done so successfully using screen /dev/tty.usbserial 115200 8N1 I get to log in and use it as if I was SSH or TelNetted in... However whenever I try to go into system recovery mode (holding CTRL+1) while the device is powering on, it starts displaying weird characters and until I close the screen session it will continue showing weird characters: Of course when we tried doing the same thing on my boss' macbook running windows and PuTTY and everything worked fine, even in system recovery mode; characters were displayed properly. What gives? Id like to learn the intuition to use because up till now I concluded that since I can bot into the system and see characters normally everything about the connection should be fine and its must have been the recovery partition that was broken.   Hi! I have a Player class in a separate unit as follows: TPlayer = class private ... FWorld: TWorld; ... public ... end; I also have a World class in a separate unit as follows: TWorld = class private ... FPlayer: TPlayer; ... public ... end; I have done it this way so that the Player can get data from the world via FWorld, and so that the other objects in the world can get the player data in a similar manner. As you can see this results in a circular reference (and therefore does not work). I have read that this implies bad code design, but I just can't think of any better other way. What could be a better way to do it? Cheers!

• emacs: force ido-mode to forget history...

  Hi, I wonder if I can keep ido from not remembering my history and only show completions for files that are in the current directory when I am searching for a file. I understand that this history feature is useful at times, but I often end up editing the incorrect file because I think I am editing file called 'abc.txt' in the current directory but in fact I am editing the file by the same name in another one that I previously visited (often happens when there is not an 'abc.txt' in the current directory, as I mistakenly assume). From reading the ido.el file I thought to set in my .emacs file (also evaluated these expressions in running emacs instance): (custom-set-variables '(ido-enable-last-directory-history nil) '(ido-record-commands nil) ) and deleted a file called .ido.last in ~/, but still it remembers some previous files I've visited before making these changes. How can I purge my previous history, and I am not entirely sure what the difference between the two variables above are but seems to have done the trick to keep ido from remembering files I visit in the future? • Detect if a table contains a column in Android/sqlite

  So I have an app on the market, and with an update I want to add some columns to the database. No problems so far. But I want to detect if the database in use is missing these columns, and add them if this is the case. I need this to be done dynamically and not just after the update to the new version, because the application is supposed to still be able to import older databases. Normally I would be able to use the PRAGMA query, but Im not sure how to do this with Android. I cant use execSQL since it is a query, and I cant figure out how to use PRAGMA with the query()-function. Ofcourse I could just catch exceptions and then add the column, or always add the columns to each table before I start to work with it, but that is not a neat solution. Cheers,

(Sometimes back I had got an example code from codeproject which used to get the screen shots but the mouse pointer user to blink when the screen shot is taken. • setting source classpath in eclipse with stupid project structure

  What do you guys do, when you have huge project built with ant for instance, where the source folders are right bellow the root project folder, for building classpath from source files ? putting entire project as a source folder is nonsense. Putting separate folders as source folders can't be done if they are part of the package hierarchy and the only thing I could think of, is to copy the source folders into a separate folder and add it then as source folder which is weird but I don't know how else to do it. Having to duplicate sources just because of the eclipse way of making classpath and also because of somebody doing stupid project structure

  I have a single xml file and every new thread of the program (BHO) is using the same Tinyxml file. every time a new window is open in the program, it runs this code: const char * xmlFileName = "C:\\browsarityXml.xml"; TiXmlDocument doc(xmlFileName); doc.LoadFile(); //some new lines in the xml.. and than save: doc.SaveFile(xmlFileName); The problem is that after the first window is adding new data to the xml and saves it, the next window can't add to it. although the next one can read the data in the xml, it can't write to it. I thought about two possibilities to make it work, but I don't know how to implement them: Destroy the doc object when I'm done with it. Some function in Tinyxml library to unload the file. Any help or better understanding of the problem will be great. Thanks.

I am willing to get a 3rd party control that supports this functionality, or I can create it myself, but looking to get this prioject done fast. The Datasource will be offline. Although when it is online for the upload/download if there is a control that would merge them, that would work also. But best is to remain offline, don't need the support headache. Security is also an issue. SSIS is not available on the shared database server. The website that hosts the asp.net application is not on the same machine as the sql server. Thank you.

  Hi all, I need handle the SIGSEGV in my Linux app. The reason is some clean up(3-partry lib) must be done before generate core-dump. What is more, the clean up must be performed in the context of calling thread, cannot do in signal handler. So I plan in signal handler to pass the control to the calling thread, after the clean up finished, then use raise(SIGSEGV) to generate the core-dump. The real problem seems the signal_handler cannot pass the control to calling thread, no matter I use post_sem or some others. Any idea to handle this case? Possbile to hijack the SIGSEGV, then in SIGSEGV hander return to another thread to perform some clean up? signal(SIGSEGV, signal_handler); signal_handler() { ... post_sem(); ... } calling thread() { wait_sem(); clean_up(); ... }

  Hi All, I am writing a windows application that runs a sequence of digital IO actions repeatedly. This sequence of actions starts when the user click a "START" button, and it is done by a background worker in backgroundWorker1_DoWork(). However, there are occasions when I get the "This backgroundworker is currently busy......." error message. I am thinking of implementing the following in the code, by using a while loop to "kill" the background worker before starting another sequence of action: if (backgroundWorker1.IsBusy == true) { backgroundWorker1.CancelAsync(); while (backgroundWorker1.IsBusy == true) { backgroundWorker1.CancelAsync(); } backgroundWorker1.Dispose(); } backgroundWorker1.RunWorkerAsync(); I think my main concern is, will the backgroundWorker1 be "killed" eventually? If it will, will it take a long time to complete it? Will this coding get me into an infinite loop?

  I was looking for a way to route http://www.example.com/WebService.asmx to http://www.example.com/service/ using only the ASP.NET 3.5 Routing framework without needing to configure the IIS server. Until now I have done what most tutorials told me, added a reference to the routing assembly, configured stuff in the web.config, added this to the Global.asax: protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { RouteCollection routes = RouteTable.Routes; routes.Add( "WebService", new Route("service/{*Action}", new WebServiceRouteHandler()) ); } ...created this class: public class WebServiceRouteHandler : IRouteHandler { public IHttpHandler GetHttpHandler(RequestContext requestContext) { // What now? } } ...and the problem is right there, I don't know what to do. The tutorials and guides I've read use routing for pages, not webservices. Is this even possible?   Hi all, I have a complex page that has several user controls like galleries, maps, ads etc. I've tried optimising them by ensuring full separation of html/css/js, placing js at the bottom of the page and trying to ensure I have well written code in all 3 but alas I still have a slow page. It's not really noticeable to a modern browser but can see the stats and IE6/7. So I'm now looking to do what we've done previously for Adtech flash crap - an iframe. Apart from the SEO impact which I'm not worried about in the case of these controls, what do people think of this as an approach? PROS and CONS please. Thanks, Denis
