  • Merging all changesets associated with a WorkItem in Team Foundation Server

    - by Rowland Shaw
We're trailing the use of the built in bug tracking, and have written some integration into our helpdesk software that allows for escalation via workitems. One thing I haven't found out how to do, is to merge all changes associated with a work item (say to go from dev branch to main) - I appreciate you can double click on a changeset in the merge dialog to view if it is associated with a workitem, and also that I can select individual changesets, and groups of adjacent changesets; but there doesn't appear to be any way to merge changes by workitem?

  • How do I completely disable JavaScript errors using VS2008 and IE?

    - by TheHurt
I am trying to prevent VS from breaking on JS errors. I have the following settings: In IE, under Tools-Internet Settings-Advanced (tab)-Browsing Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) is checked. Disable script debugging (Other) is checked. In VS, under Debug-Exceptions-Common Language Runtime Exceptions JScript Exceptions (thrown and user-unhandled) are unchecked. In VS, under Tools-Options-Debugging-Just-In-Time Script is unchecked. There are some JavaScript errors that I just don't care about and it is driving me insane having to deal with them.

  • Can you step into specific properties in VS 2010?

    - by cyclotis04
I know that you can either step into every property or not step into every property, but I would really like to be able to step into a specific property, and not the rest. Is this possible? (I also know I can use keyboard commands, but I'm asking if there's a more permanent solution.) I have a lot of properties and my setters do important things, so it's silly to step over them, but most of my getters are pointless. I'm looking for something like: public string ImportantProperty { get { return _importantProperty; } [DebuggerStepThrough(false)] set { if (this.State != ConnectionState.Closed) throw new InvalidOperationException( "Important Property cannot be changed unless This is closed."); if (ImportantProperty == value) return; _importantProperty = value; OnImportantPropertyChanged(new EventArgs()); } } Unfortunately, I can't find anything that will act like [DebuggerStepThrough(false)] and I must resort to turning off property step-over and putting [DebuggerStepThrough] everywhere I don't want to step-through.

  • background worker in asp.net

    - by vbNewbie
I migrate my winforms crawler app to a asp.net web app and would like to know how to implement the background worker thread that I use for very long searches? Another posting mentioned asynchronous pages but I am not sure if this would work or how to apply it. The search function that would run can sometimes run for a few days and I would like the user to have the option to perform other functions still. Can this happen?

  • Best way to have common class shared by both C++ and Ruby?

    - by shuttle87
I am currently working on a project where a team of us are designing a game, all of us are proficient in ruby and some (but not all) of us are proficient in c++. Initially we made the backend in ruby but we ported it to c++ for more speed. The c++ port of the backend has exactly the same features and algorithms as the original ruby code. However we still have a bunch of code in ruby that does useful things but we want it to now get the data from the c++ classes. Our first thought was that we could save some of the data structures in something like XML or redis and call that, but some of the developers don't like that idea. We don't need anything particularly complex data structures to be passed between the different parts of the code, just tuples, strings and ints. Is there any way of integrating the ruby code so that it can call the c++ stuff natively? Will we need to embed code? Will we have to make a ruby extension? If so are there any good resources/tutorials you could suggest? For example say we have this code in the c++ backend: class The_game{ private: bool printinfo; //print the player diagnostic info at the beginning if true int numplayers; std::vector<Player*> players; string current_action; int action_is_on; // the index of the player in the players array that the action is now on //more code here public: Table(std::vector<Player *> in_players, std::vector<Statistics *> player_stats ,const int in_numplayers); ~Table(); void play_game(); History actions_history; }; class History{ private: int action_sequence_number; std::vector<Action*> hand_actions; public: void print_history(); void add_action(Action* the_action_to_be_added); int get_action_sequence_number(){ return action_sequence_number;} bool history_actions_are_equal(); int last_action_size(int street, int number_of_actions_ago); History(); ~History(); }; Is there any way to natively call something in the actions_history via The_game object in ruby? (The objects in the original ruby code all had the same names and functionality) By this I mean: class MyRubyClass def method1(arg1) puts arg1 self.f() # ... but still available puts cpp_method.the_current_game.actions_history.get_action_sequence_number() end # Constructor: def initialize(arg) puts "In constructor with arg #{arg}" #get the c++ object here and call it cpp_method end end Is this possible? Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

  • Which entities should be Aggregate Roots?

    - by MylesRip
If Book aggregates Chapter which in turn aggregates Page, then what should be the aggregate root? One possibility might be: Book is an aggregate root with Chapter as a leaf and Chapter is an aggregate with Page as a leaf. In this scenario, Chapter is a leaf in one aggregate and a root in another. Is this okay? Would it make sense in this scenario to have two repositories, one for Book and another for Chapter? If so, then couldn't the Chapter repository be used to circumvent the fact that access to Chapter should only happen via Book? What would be the best way to handle a situation like this?

  • Creating DB views in Ruby on Rails

    - by Zigu
Hey guys, I'm building a "reports" functionality to a project. 3 roles here: 1) Volunteers (they report what hours they volunteered) 2) Supervisors (they look at the reported stuff, note: one supervisor can view all projects) 3) Projects (Represents a work project that some collection of volunteers work on) To explain what it does: A report will be specified by the supervisor to generate based on a query of what he needs. These could be plausible reports: 1) The total number of volunteers, and the total amount of volunteer hours on this project 2) All the volunteer's names and emails associated with a project 3) The number of active projects vs. the total number of projects I was thinking maybe that creating a view in rails and storing the name of that view so Rails will just check the view whenever a supervisor wants to pull up the "report". Is a view really the answer or is it better to just save a query? Can Rails do this or is there an even better or more simple way of achieving this functionality? Cheers, -Jeremiah Tantongco

  • Typemock - Worth the money?

    - by AngryHacker
I know that this is a subjective question... Typemock is $799 per developer. Licences for 5 devs comes up to a pretty large sum. If someone here used Typemock and given that there are open source mocking frameworks, is it worth the money? Why?

  • Double reversals on technology decisions

    - by Kev
Have you ever gone through a painful switch from one technology to another, only to switch back later in a project's lifetime? Was it because the technologies evolved differently than you expected, or because of something you didn't understand about them in the first place, or because they didn't fly when it came to beta testing or production? Did you regret the switch back too?

  • Building a structure/object in a place other than the constructor

    - by Vishal Naidu
I have different types of objects representing the same business entity. UIObject, PowershellObject, DevCodeModelObject, WMIObject all are different representation to the same entity. So say if the entity is Animal then I have AnimalUIObject, AnimalPSObject, AnimalModelObject, AnimalWMIObject, etc. Now the implementations of AnimalUIObject, AnimalPSObject, AnimalModelObject are all in separate assemblies. Now my scenario is I want to verify the contents of business entity Animal irrespective of the assembly it came from. So I created a GenericAnimal class to represent the Animal entity. Now in GenericAnimal I added the following constructors: GenericAnimal(AnimalUIObject) GenericAnimal(AnimalPSObject) GenericAnimal(AnimalModelObject) Basically I made GenericAnimal depend on all the underlying assemblies so that while verifying I deal with this abstraction. Now the other approach to do this is have GenericAnimal with an empty constructor an allow these underlying assemblies to have a Transform() method which would build the GenericAnimal. Both approaches have some pros and cons: The 1st approach: Pros: All construction logic is in one place in one class GenericAnimal Cons: GenericAnimal class must be touched every-time there is a new representation form. The 2nd approach: Pros: construction responsibility is delegated to the underlying assembly. Cons: As construction logic is spread accross assemblies, tomorrow if I need to add a property X in GenericAnimal then I have to touch all the assemblies to change the Transform method. Which approach looks better ? or Which would you consider a lesser evil ? Is there any alternative way better than the above two ?

  • Overloading methods in C#

    - by Craig Johnston
Is there a way to simplify the process of adding an overloaded method in C# using VS2005? In VB6, I would have just added an Optional parameter the function, but in C# do I have to have to type out a whole new method with this new parameter?

  • 2d Game Making > Where can someone get Free Tilesets?

    - by Iscariot
I have been scouring the internet for free tilesets that are open to you. I have found http://lostgarden.com/ It does not seem very useful. There are a few things here and there, but overall not much to really make a game off of. http://www.flyingyogi.com/fun/spritelib.html Spritelib is a little better it has some useful information, but is still the graphics are more in the 8bit variety. http://reinerstileset.4players.de/ This is heavily stylized and its hard to have this match with any other free tile-sets available. All other sites I have found have just been rips from games and those are protected by a copyright and remain unusable. Right now I need simple objects to build the inside of buildings, but I have seem to have come up short in that area. I have plenty of things for outside of buildings, but nothing for in. I am hoping someone else has had this problem and has found a solution. If not, I hope the information I have provided can help someone else in their conquest.

  • Writing my own implementation of stl-like Iterator in C++.

    - by Negai
Good evening everybody, I'm currently trying to understand the intrinsics of iterators in various languages i.e. the way they are implemented. For example, there is the following class exposing the list interface. template<class T> class List { public: virtual void Insert( int beforeIndex, const T item ) throw( ListException ) =0 ; virtual void Append( const T item ) =0; virtual T Get( int position ) const throw( ListException ) =0; virtual int GetLength() const =0; virtual void Remove( int position ) throw( ListException ) =0; virtual ~List() =0 {}; }; According to GoF, the best way to implement an iterator that can support different kinds of traversal is to create the base Iterator class (friend of List) with protected methods that can access List's members. The concrete implementations of Iterator will handle the job in different ways and access List's private and protected data through the base interface. From here forth things are getting confusing. Say, I have class LinkedList and ArrayList, both derived from List, and there are also corresponding iterators, each of the classes returns. How can I implement LinkedListIterator? I'm absolutely out of ideas. And what kind of data can the base iterator class retrieve from the List (which is a mere interface, while the implementations of all the derived classes differ significantly) ? Sorry for so much clutter. Thanks.

  • CSS: How the backgrounds can extend the border and overlap?

    - by AlexStack
I'm designing a navigation bar as shown in image below (a) with the following code: <ul> <li class="unselected">Step 1</li> <li class="selected">Step 2</li> <li class="unselected">Step 3</li> <li class="unselected">Step 4</li> <li class="unselected">Step 5</li> </ul> I want to have one background image for unselected steps (d) and one for the selected step (c). For simplicity let's assume Step 1 and Step 5 use the same background as well. I want to adjust the button background in HTML only with a class name. The question is how can I achieve the result with CSS? I just want to know how background of two neighbor elements can overlap each other?

  • How to find which existing .NET solutions contain a project?

    - by Daniel Daranas
I am exploring a structure of folders with C# projects such as the following: Projects ProjectA ProjectB ProjectC ProjectD Scattered around in the same folders as the .csproj files, there are several solution (.sln) files. Is there a fast way to find all the solutions that contain ProjectD.vsproj? I can open them one by one and see what they contain, but I would like a feature such as "find all the solutions containing this project".

I have a two-column primary key on a table. I have attempted to alter it to set the ignore_dup_key to on with this command: ALTER INDEX PK_mypk on MyTable SET (IGNORE_DUP_KEY = ON); But I get this error: Cannot use index option ignore_dup_key to alter index 'PK_mypk' as it enforces a primary or unique constraint. How else should I set IGNORE_DUP_KEY to on?
