  Hi, I have done the following code in JavaScript to put focus on the particular element (branch1 is a element), document.location.href="#branch1"; But as I am also using jQuery in my web app, so I want to do the above code in jQuery. I have tried but don't know why its not working, $("#branch1").focus(); The above jquery (focus()) code is not working for div, whereas If i am trying the same code with textbox, then its working, Please tell me, how can I put focus on a div elemnt using jQuery? • Removing unused selectors in a CSS stylesheet?

  I've been developing a web app for a few weeks now and ended up with about a 1000 lines. I am sure not all the selectors are being used and am trying to clean it up. At the same time, I don't want to do it manually for obvious reasons. Is there a safe and an efficient way to remove unused selectors? For this, am I supposed to navigate the entire website to let it know which selectors are not being used? (I use javascript to add some selectors so these might not show up until a particular usecase is seen)

• How to count new lines in Internet Explorer?

  Hey, all. I'm doing my own syntax highlighter for Javascript and CSS, and I've run into an issue with Internet Explorer (big surprise). I grab all the contents of a code.block tag (example below) using innerHTML, and .split("\n") that result to get each line by itself. This works wonderfully except in IE. I have tried using innerText and .split("\r\n") also without success. Can anyone recommend a solution? If it makes a difference, my code.block tags are styled to be white-space:pre-wrap. <code class="block css">div#randomBarsDemo { width:175px; height:200px; } div#randomBarsDemo div { background-color:#111; width:100%; }</code>

• Fetching content from Website on another Server

  Hi everyone. What i basically want to do is to get content from a website and load it into a div of another website. This should be no problem so far. The problem is, that the content that should be fetched is located on a different server and i have no source access to it. I'd prefer a solution using JavaScript of jQuery. Can i use a .htacces redirect to fetch the content from a remote server with client-side (js) techniques? I will also go with other solutions though. Thanks a lot in advance!

  Hi, heres the problem explanation: Im on the domain https://www.example.com - theres an Order-Form with the Action https://www.example-otherdomain.com with an other SSL Certificate. On some conditions i set the form action to https://www.example.com so that it will be posted on our domain, but if the user uses a CreditCart it should get posted to https://www.example-otherdomain.com. So far so good. But in some rare conditions, users with CreditCards still posts their form to https://www.example.com. So my idea is: Is there some Same-Domain-Policy for Javascript/HTTPS to protect the user from phishing? It seems that to set the FormAction to the same domain works, but not to reset it to the external one (with JS). I cant reproduce this error, so im asking here if someone knows if theres such a problem. It doesnt matter which UserAgent the user has (there are post datas from FF, Chrome, Webkit, IE7/8) Thx!

  Overview: I have a table which stores a persons "availability" for a current day, e.g. Mon - 8:00am - 11:30am Mon - 1:30pm - 6:00pm A second table stores appointments that this person already has for the same day, e.g. Mon - 8:30am - 11:00am Mon - 2:30pm - 4pm Desired result: Doing calculationsI'd like to have the following result - e.g. "this person has availability on the given day": Mon - 8:00am - 8:30am Mon - 11:00am - 11:30am Mon - 1:30pm - 2:30pm Mon - 4:00pm - 6:00pm Any ideas on how to calculate the output given the two inputs (e.g. availability, existing appointments) would be greatly appreciated. Preferably I'd use javascript on the client to do the calculating as I would believe that doing it within the DB (I'm using MSSQL) would be slow for many records, persons, etc. Hope this is enough information to illustrate the problem at hand - Many thanks in advance.

• Open browser window with formed URL after posting a PHP form

  So here's the question. I have this php form that collects some data, after posting the data gets parsed an URL is constructed. After this URL is constructed, I'd like to open a new browser window for the user with this newly constructed URL. How can I actually accomplish this? Is this something that can only be done with javascript? If so... How? I already have the code in place and i've tested it works that construct the URL after posting the form, now it's just a matter of opening a new window with the URL.

  I am working on a web app and trying to code a form with two dropdown lists. The list in the second dropdown will be dependent on the selection from the first one. The task itself isn’t too complicated except that once the first selection is made, I need to make a database call to pull the data for the second dropdown. This is where I am having difficulty. Both lists are in fact populated from a database. I am working on this in a python script and have been trying to do this w/ an onChange javascript function. The web app is built in Zope and page templates may be an option along w/ the python scripts.

• Using jQuery to auto-populate a form field from another form field

  Has anyone used jquery to take data from one form field and put it into another? I'm trying to create a form that when one text input is filled out a second is auto-populated with the first letter of the word that is in the first text input. I'm thinking I can limit the second text input to one character to help get the desired result, but I'm not having luck getting jquery to get the second text input and auto-populate once the first is entered. • Creating a Better Tabbed Interface in Django

  I've been trying to create a tabbed interface using Django. The current effort (which works fine) is having each template have the header hard-coded in, with the selected tab given the "selected" CSS attribute. Of course, this is a massive violation of DRY and I'm looking to remedy it. My current idea is adding a jQuery script to the page that looks at all the tabs and sets one to "selected" if it's text matches the beginning of the title for the page. Is there a better way to do this without using JavaScript and just pure CSS?

• How do I get a title or some text to appear in a Silverlight mediaplayer when switching to FullScree

  I am working on an ASP.NET website with VB.NET code-behind. I have a Silverlight mediaplayer object on one of the pages and the user may view that video in FullScreen mode. When changing to full-screen mode they are losing the title and chapter of the video series they are viewing. I have tried accessing properties and searched the web for examples on how I could put a title or some text over the player when in FullScreen mode to give the user an indication of where they are currently at while viewing each video. I am using OnClientMediaEnded to move through the videos after each video has ended so they are able to watch the whole series once in FullScreen mode. I am using a call to javascript in with this method to do that and want to know if there is any way to get a title or text up there and then change once the video switches to the next in the series? The controls on the player also go away when going into FullScreen mode so any help with that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks

In an html page, I have javascript code that allows me to open and close a popup window by clicking on a link displayed in the link, so the text displayed in the link changes to the state of the popup window (open-closed). With a variable true / false I manage the opening and closing of the popup window to click on a link whose text is aligned "opened popup" / "closed popup". The next step is to make this same change in state (true / false, "opened popup" / "close popup") directly by closing the popup window. The idea is to not have to refresh the page. Is this possible?   I often see JavaScript code which checks for undefined parameters etc. this way: if (typeof input !== "undefined") { // do stuff } This seems kind of wasteful, since it involves both a type lookup and a string comparison, not to mention its verbosity. It's needed because 'undefined' could be renamed, though. My question is: How is that code any better than this approach: if (input != null) { // do stuff } As far as I know, you can't redefine null, so it's not going to break unexpectedly. And, because of the type-coercion of the != operator, this checks for both undefined and null... which is often exactly what you want (e.g. for optional function parameters). Yet this form does not seem widespread, and it even causes JSLint to yell at you for using the evil != operator. Why is this considered bad style?

  Ok - have been tasked with possibly an impossible (or at least a potentially nightmarish) scenario. Need to come as close as possible to reproducing PowerPoint-like effects via HTML/JavaScript (the spec is large and ugly, so I will spare you the details). Ultimately, I am looking for a solid launching point. I have used both Prototype/Scriptaculous as well as jQuery in many projects, and based on what I am seeing, it appears jQuery has the more plug-in available, so am leaning towards using jQuery. Can anyone point me to some plug-ins, articles, or anything else that would help me in accelerating the research on this so I can define to my client what can and cannot be done.   I am making a static site which is 'forced' to be cached via Cache-control, etc. When a user visits my site, I want the browser to crawl my site, caching pages, so when the user navigates to a page, the load is almost instant. (I do not need a recursive crawl, as that will probably happen as the user navigates between pages. I just need to crawl the links on the current page, and of course not re-caching a page which has already been cached.) (Also, I am not changing pages using Ajax-like techniques. These are essentially normal flat HTML files with normal links.) How can I do this pre-caching using Javascript? (I am using jQuery.)

• Loading an XML file with todays date in the filename... need to fallback to old file if one with tod

Using javascript/jQuery I am currently loading in an XML file that has a file name such as carousel_large_2010-06-08.xml.. the way I am doing it is checked for todays date then grabbing a file that has that date in the filename... the issue is sometimes they wont be uploading a new file for a given day so it needs to fallback to a older date that exists.. Wondering how to do it?
