    I created a custom keyboardlayout Coffee++ for Linux that works fine in most apps: http://coffeeplusplus.z11.de/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=13&p=34#p34 I created a debian package, that adds the needed changes to the keyboard configuration and creates a shell script which which you can swap between normal QWERTY and Coffee++ The letters all work fine, only the arrow-combinations, for ex. AltGr+J for "Arrow-left" and so on don't work in all applications. How can I make the Arrow-key-combinations work in all apps?

  • Async.Parallel or Array.Parallel.Map ?

    Hello- I'm trying to implement a pattern I read from Don Syme's blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/dsyme/archive/2010/01/09/async-and-parallel-design-patterns-in-f-parallelizing-cpu-and-i-o-computations.aspx) which suggests that there are opportunities for massive performance improvements from leveraging asynchronous I/O. I am currently trying to take a piece of code that "works" one way, using Array.Parallel.Map, and see if I can somehow achieve the same result using Async.Parallel, but I really don't understand Async.Parallel, and cannot get anything to work. I have a piece of code (simplified below to illustrate the point) that successfully retrieves an array of data for one cusip. (A price series, for example) let getStockData cusip = let D = DataProvider() let arr = D.GetPriceSeries(cusip) return arr let data = Array.Parallel.map (fun x -> getStockData x) stockCusips So this approach contructs an array of arrays, by making a connection over the internet to my data vendor for each stock (which could be as many as 3000) and returns me an array of arrays (1 per stock, with a price series for each one). I admittedly don't understand what goes on underneath Array.Parallel.map, but am wondering if this is a scenario where there are resources wasted under the hood, and it actually could be faster using asynchronous I/O? So to test this out, I have attempted to make this function using asyncs, and I think that the function below follows the pattern in Don Syme's article using the URLs, but it won't compile with "let!". let getStockDataAsync cusip = async { let D = DataProvider() let! arr = D.GetData(cusip) return arr } The error I get is: This expression was expected to have type Async<'a but here has type obj It compiles fine with "let" instead of "let!", but I had thought the whole point was that you need the exclamation point in order for the command to run without blocking a thread. So the first question really is, what's wrong with my syntax above, in getStockDataAsync, and then at a higher level, can anyone offer some additional insight about asychronous I/O and whether the scenario I have presented would benefit from it, making it potentially much, much faster than Array.Parallel.map? I’ve tried using jQuery to select this HTML based on its contents (using :contains()), but it doesn’t seem to work in IE 8 (which is odd, as it works fine in IE 7). Any idea what’s up with IE 8? Any other methods to achieve the same result?

    I use the Faenza icon collection in Ubuntu 12.04 Unity with no issues.     I really like how Trulia.com has created their custom Google Map InfoWindows. What I like in particular about Trulia's implementation of the InfoWindow is: Extends beyond the map border: Google Maps InfoWindows are contained within the map border whereas Trulia's seems to be able to float on-top of the map Always displays InfoWindow near map Center: Google Maps InfoWindows always display the InfoWindow above the marker whereas Trulia InfoWindows always display the InfoWindow as close the center of the map as possible. For example, if the map marker icon is on the top of the map near the border, the Trulia InfoWindow is displayed below the map marker icon InfoWindow is displayed on mouse hover (not 'click'): With the default Google Maps InfoWindow, you have to 'click' the map marker icon to display the InfoWindow whereas Trulia InfoWindows are display simply by hovering over the map marker icon. I found the PdMarker, which is a 3rd party extension for Google Map InfoWindows that accomplishes most of the above bullets but not all. 1) It does not extend beyond the map border, 2) it does not work with Google Maps API version 3 (only version 2). Anyone know how Trulia is accomplishing their InfoWindow-like implementation on Google Maps API v3?

How do I map these enum properties using that extension? I'm trying to map to an object like this: private class DestinationObject { public string Enum1Description { get; set; } public string Enum2Description { get; set; } } I think a custom formatter is my best bet, but I can't figure out how to add the formatter and specify which field to map from at the same time.

Below is basically what I want to do, but as a total beginner a Map/Reduce, I think this is above my knowledge! Find all visits to current page where external = true within the last 30 days (unix timestamp, I deal with the date ranges in PHP and then the array, not mongo date) Group all visits by referral location For each referral location, calculate how many then went to visit a page which has a certain word in the [tags]. I'm using the normal Mongo PHP extension if that has an impact.

    When overlay is a Google maps overlay and offsetx, offsety is the pixel distance from the maps center that I want to pan latlong to, the following works. var projection = overlay.getProjection(); var pxlocation = projection.fromLatLngToContainerPixel(latlong); map.panTo(projection.fromContainerPixelToLatLng(new google.maps.Point(pxlocation.x+offsetx,pxlocation.y+offsety))); However, I don't always have an overlay on the map and map.getProjection() returns a projection, not a MapCanvasProjection which does not have the methods I need. Is there a way to do this without making an overlay specificaly for it?

    Macromedia Flash 8 Question: I have a map of Ireland, just a gif, and there are several small buttons representing various point of interest around Ireland, which are scattered across the map. This part works fine. THE PROBLEM: Dublin is too small to contain all of its points of interest (approx 20). THE SOLUTION OnMouseOver Dublin, I would like Dublin to expand to perhaps 5 or 6 times its original size, and I would like to be able to have Dublins Points Of Interests now displayed within this larger dublin area, which sits on top of the Ireland map. OnMouseOut Dublin, this enlarged Dublin region now shrinks back to its original size. MY QUESTION: How do I implement Dublin?? REQUIREMENTS: 1) The expanded Dublin region shud NOT be clickable, it shud simply be a dublin image on a black background. 2) It must be possible to add additional buttons within this expanded Dublin region. Any help or assistance greatly appreciated...

    Hi! I'm looking for a map API where I can get detailed elevation for points. I'm not looking elevation differences for certain paths along roads on the map but actual building heights. Getting the the 3d meshes for buildings would also be fine since I can compute the height myself using that information. Does any of the map API's out there support giving out this kind of information? EDIT: Free API's are preferred but if that's not an option I'd like to hear about non free alternatives as well.

    I'm putting together something I'll soon release as OSS and I wanted to make a map of dependencies to get a clearer idea of the big picture. I ended up making the mind map myself using pen and paper: This is something I wish I could do more often, but mapping bigger projects manually is too troublesome (and virtually impossible due to the size of the sheet) and since I can't find any mind mapping software that fits my needs and allows me to display the map in the visual structure I want I often leave the mind maps in my mind alone, no visual representation whatsoever... Can anyone suggest a good mind mapping software that allows me to do something like the above? I've tried FreeMind and XMind so far but their visual structure is too rigid for what I need.
