• Cannot Debug Visual Basic 6 ActiveX Component On 64-bit OS

  Hi, The situation might sound a bit weird but I have to play with what I have. There's a Win2003 64-bit server OS and a legacy application written using Visual Studio 6. The app consists of two parts: ActiveX components written in VB6 and C++ code which uses them. I need to debug the components' code. I installed Visual Studio 6 on the server and I'm able to step into the component's code. Then I got following situation: 1) C++ code works until it needs to instantiate component A. 2) At this step we switch to VB6 and start debugging Component's A. 3) In the very beginning component A creates an instance of a class C exposed by component B. At this step VB6 debugger shows error message with title "OLEDB32.DLL" and following text: "Failed to load resource DLL C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\System\Ole DB\OLEDB32R.DLL" Additional information: The last step in initialization of the class C is opening an ADO connection to SQL server using OLEDB provider. I'd appreciate any ideas on how resolve this problem. Thanks in advance.

• Weird in my UIImagePickerController with camera

  Hi everyone: I met a problem on using camera by scratch on iphone. Other people's code just run fine on my 3GS. But my code doesn't. When I implemented a UIViewController controller, and I add the following code in viewdidload: UIImagePickerController *picker = [UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; picker.source = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; picker.delegate = self; //Previously added all the delegate properly [self presentModalViewController:picker animated:YES]; Nothing comes out. I checked in the debugger, it shows that the picker is allocated, but here is the major difference between my and success one. picker._imagepickerflag.visible = 0; //others show 1; picker.UINavigationController._containerView: 0x0 ; // others have value.   Hello people, I'm getting crazy with a small problem here, I keep getting an error and I cant seem to figure out why, the code is supposed to change the range of a list, so if we give it a list with values (1 2 3 4) and we want to change the range in 11 to fourteen the result would be (11 12 13 14) the problem is that the last function called scale-list will give back an error saying: Debugger entered--Lisp error: (wrong-type-argument number-or-marker-p nil) anybody has a clue why? • Debug.WriteLine not working

  In the past, perhaps versions of Visual Studio prior to the 2008 that I am using now, I would do something like this in my VB.NET code: System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("Message") ..and the output would go to the output window. Now it doesn't. Something must first apparently be enabled. If this involves "attaching a debugger", please explain how to do it. It seems to me that it should just work without too much of a fuss. • Problems with animateAlong in IE7

  Hi there, I'm having trouble making a simple shape move along a path in IE7 (the only version of IE I tried, actually). The following code works fine in chrome and firefox, but not IE. I couldn't find an obvious reason, has anybody seen something similar? canvas.path(rPath.path).attr("stroke", "blue"); var circle = canvas.circle(rPath.startX, rPath.startY, 5); circle.animateAlong(rPath.path, 3000, true); My rPath variable has the path and the starting point coordinates. Microsoft script debugger points to this line as the one where the code breaks: os.left != (t = x - left + "px") && (os.left = t); (line 2131 inside the uncompressed raphael.js script file, inside Element[proto].setBox = function (params, cx, cy) {...}) Any ideas? • Cocoa NSOutlineView bug - [NSCFTimer copyWithZone:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance

  I'm using an NSOutlineView with the function - (BOOL)outlineView:(NSOutlineView *)outlineView isGroupItem:(id)item defined so it gives the group row GUI look. When I add a root item, it works fine. When I add an item to root's child array and expand it, it works fine. If I contract the item though, the following error is logged: [NSCFTimer copyWithZone:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance I also get an EXC_BAD_ACCESS error if the app window is deactivated by switching to another app. I used the debugger to try to find where I might have made an error in one of my functions, but the stack trace only shows functions I did not create (RunCurrentEventLoopInMode, CFRunLoopRunSpecific, handleWindowNeedsDisplay, etc.) Does anyone have any idea where my error(s) might be?

  HI all, I have a issue that when I try to write some bytes in the outputstream, I am getting the bad access. The code is as follows : int writtenBytes = [_os write:[packetInBytes bytes] maxLength:lengthOfPacket]; where the "packetInBytes" points to NSData and "lengthOfPacket" corresponds to the data length, and _os represents the NSOutputStream. The call stack from the debugger is as follows : 0 0xffff0269 in __spin_lock 1 0x302a6098 in CFSocketDisableCallBacks 2 0x003b46d0 in SocketStream::write 3 0x302402c3 in CFWriteStreamWrite 4 0x0001b423 in -[Writer write:] at Writer.m:96 5 0x0001b5ef in -[Writer run] at Writer.m:111 6 0x3050a79d in -[NSThread main] 7 0x3050a338 in NSThread__main 8 0x91a27fe1 in _pthread_start 9 0x91a27e66 in thread_start** I am not getting this issue always. I get this issue execute my code for some 5 or more times ... I have checked all the params that i pass to the write function have its values and not nil. • TryGetObjectByKey... empty ObjectSets

  When I use TryGetObjectByKey on my ObjectContext, it returns an error. An item with a duplicate value already exists. When I look at my objectContext, I see that the ObjectSets are empty. What Am I doing wrong... When I enumerate the ObjectSet by hand, by using ToArray on it, or by using the debugger, it does work. LazyLoadingEnabled = true. I reuse 2 tables from another EDMX, but they are in different namespaces and they are not the objectSets i try to approach.

• SSL_CTX_use_PrivateKey_file fail on Linux (part 2)

  For some reason, my calls to OpenSSL's SSL_CTX_use_PrivateKey_file have started to fail (again) on Ubuntu. My previous post concerning this function; http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2028862/ssl-ctx-use-privatekey-file-fail-under-linux With the above fix, I have been able to use things fine until a couple of days ago. I have no idea why. The error string I'm now getting is error:140B0009:SSL routines:SSL_CTX_use_PrivateKey_file:PEM lib with 336265225 as error code. What is the problem? Additional info: The file passed to the function exist (SSL_CTX_use_certificate_file is passed the same file). The code in the callback function for the password is also not called (at least apparantly not according to the debugger). Everything works fine on Windows.

• Unable to display data in a WPF datagrid that has a DataView instance as the items source

  I am using a DataGrid object from the WPF toolkit. I am binding the DataGrid object to the default view of a DataTable instance as declared in the following code: WeatherGrid.ItemsSource = weatherDataTable.DefaultView; weatherDataTable has three columns. The first column is defined to contain a string data type. The other two columns are defined to contain double data types. When the application exits the function that calls the binding as expressed in the declaration, The DataGrid object displays data for the first column, but not the other columns. When I type the following in the immediate window in the debugger: ((DataRowView)WeatherGrid.Items[0]).Row[1] I get a number, but this doesn't correspond with what is being displayed. Why is only the first column visible, and how can I get all of the data to be visible? • ShowDialog won't run

  I've come across a situation where I try to run a simple line of code in a method Dim res As DialogResult = frmOptions.ShowDialog() but nothing happens. The dialog box will not appear. If I run this method from another location in the code it executes fine (i.e. displays the form in dialog mode and code executes fine thereafter). Hence, it may be the way in which I arrive at this code that is causing my problem, but I cannot see to find what is wrong. When I pause the debugger the line of code is highlighted in green but I can't see to step over it or into it. Any idea what may cause this to happen, or what I should be looking for that might be causing the problem?? Thanks for the help!

It would be helpful if the book covered: The software development process (requirements, design, coding, testing, maintenance) Testing roles (who performs each step in the process) Testing methods (white box and black box) Testing levels (unit testing, integration testing, etc) Testing process (Agile, waterfall, spiral) Testing tools (simulators, fixtures, and reporting software) Testing of embedded systems The goal here is to find an easy to read book that summarizes the best practices for ensuring software quality in an embedded system. It seems most texts cover the testing of application software where it is simpler to generate automated test cases or run a debugger. A book that provided solutions for improving quality in a system where the tests must be performed manually and therefore minimized would be ideal.

• Strange crashes on the iPad device with core graphics functions

  I am getting a lot of strange EXC_BAD_ACCESS crashes on the iPad that only happen on the device and not in the simulator. I am assuming that they are somehow memory related, but I am not sure. They all happen with image context related functions. One strange example is using CGImageCreateWithImageInRect. For example, if i run through a bunch of UIImages and crop them with CGImageCreateWithImageInRect, it will always crash at specific arbitrary sizes. Like, if I crop them all to 200x200, it crashes out after processing 12 images. If i crop them to 210x210, it works no problem. The EXC_BAD_ACCESS happens inside of "memmove" called from "CGBlt_copyBytes". That is all the debugger shows me strangely enough. I can't see the callstack going up to any of my methods. All of this works fine in the simulator! I know this is all very vague, but if anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

  When I try to run my first application with the debugger, I get a pop up which says: Visual C__ 2008 Express Edition This project is out of date: ProgName - Debug Win32 Would you like to build it? [Yes[ [No] [Cancel] [ ] Do not show this dialog again? I find this somewhat bothersome, because the very last thing that I did just before that was build the application. And the build did complete successfully (immediately before I clicked on Start Debugging -- F5.) The second time I pressed with wrong cilck on the Answer [No] on the same msg Now, I can't compile my apps What exactly does "do not show this dialog again" mean? It sounds to me like its going to remember my answer and use the same answer every time this situation occurs in the future. I did some stuffs like "Clean Solution" then "Build Solution" then "Start Debugging" ,but the same problem what's the solution ,how can I reset this message to make it work again .

• Why wouldn't a flex remoteobject work within a custom component?

  Please enlighten this flex noob. I have a remoteobject within my main.mxml. I can call a function on the service from an init() function on my main.mxml, and my java debugger triggers a breakpoint. When I move the remoteobject declaration and function call into a custom component (that is declared within main.mxml), the remote function on java-side no longer gets called, no breakpoints triggered, no errors, silence. How could this be? No spelling errors, or anything like that. mxml code: &ltmx:RemoteObject id="myService" destination="remoteService" endpoint="$(Application.application.home}/messagebroker/amf" &gt &lt/mx:RemoteObject%gt function call is just 'myService.getlist();' when I move it to a custom component, I import mx.core.Application; so the compiler doesn't yell

• How to get XDebug working on Mac command line PHP

  I recently installed Zend Server Community Edition on a Mac with Snow Leopard. I can't get XDebug to work ... it shows up in the output for phpinfo from a web browser, but when I var_dump() a variable, there is no special output, and when I run phpunit, code coverage reports aren't generated. Also when I type php -m at the command line, there is nothing for XDebug. I suspect that it's because the Mac is running the executable of PHP that was bundled with it instead of the executable of PHP that came with the Zend Server install. When I type /usr/local/zend/bin/php -m, XDebug does show up. I followed the instructions at http://akrabat.com/php/some-notes-on-zend-server-ce-for-mac-os-x/. Also I downloaded the xdebug.so from the Komodo web site. Zend Debugger and all other Zend extensions are disabled. So how can I get XDebug working correctly?

• A tool or framework extension or code snippet for logging the internal state of objects?

  When spiking on how something works or when my unit test behave in an unpredictable manner I usually have to drop into debug mode. 99% of my time in debug mode is spent checking the values of fields on objects to verify its state. I already have log4net set up, it would seem that if I could easily add a line of code to log out the state of objects I could remove most of my need to start up the bulky debugger. The problem is of course that to expose object state implicitly you need to manually override each object's ToString() method. What I would like to be able to do is the ability to do logger.LogState(someObject) and have logged out the object state including at least a formatted list of all the private variables, references (to some arbitrary depth), and collections. Does anyone know a tool/framework/code snippet that can be used to generate a string of the internal state of any object? I could of course write one myself but its a non-trivial problem and I'd prefer something someone has put some thought into.

• Python proxy an application

  Does anyone know of a library that enables you to run an application inside some kind of sandbox, with virtual mouse and keyboard support. The use case would be to create some kind of visual test runner, that would replay all actions taken during recording and play them back. So far I found autopy, but the fact that it controls the real mouse position is problematic, because it prevents user interaction with other tools (debugger or anything) while running. Cross platform would be nice, but either windows or os x is fine. Python would be ideal but anything that you could create python bindings for would be ok too.

• Seemingly useless debugging environment for Android

  I've just started debugging my first three line long android app and I can't seem to use the debug tool like I want to. Here's my code: public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); int a = 1 / 0; } Now I expect the debugger to halt the thread and show me the line number of statement where the division by zero occurs. No, instead it shows some other method internal to the system for which I have no source. To make the matters worse, there is no exception message either. Prior to this app, I created one which would do something when a button was pressed. If any exception was raised, again no useful line number or exception message would be shown. As of right now, there is no way to debug my app. Any ideas? I'm using the latest SDK along with Eclipse ADT plugin and debugging on a real device (Nexus One).

• Object Dump JavaScript

  Is there a 3rd party add-on/application or some way to perform object map dumping in script debugger for a JavaScript object? Here is the situation... I have a method being called twice, and during each time something is different. I'm not sure what is different, but something is. So, if I could dump all the properties of window (or at least window.document) into a text editor, I could compare the state between the two calls with a simple file diff. Thoughts? • Panel visible=true has no effect

  I have a Panel that I'm setting visible=true explicitly. The debugger passes over that line and visible still evaluates to False on the next line. Obviously as a result, the Panel is not shown. Two questions: Why doesn't it work? If it can't be fixed: I only want to invoke OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e) in order to access the e.Graphics object - is there any other way to do this?

• How to change current Theme at runtime in Android

  I've created a PreferenceActivity that allows the user to choose the theme he wants to apply to the entire application. When the users selects a theme, this code is executed: if (...) { getApplication().setTheme(R.style.BlackTheme); } else { getApplication().setTheme(R.style.LightTheme); } But, despite I've checked with the debugger that the code is being executed, I can't see any change in the user interface. Themes are defined in res/values/styles.xml, and Eclipse does not show any error. <resources> <style name="LightTheme" parent="@android:style/Theme.Light"> </style> <style name="BlackTheme" parent="@android:style/Theme.Black"> </style> </resources> Any idea about what could be happening and how to fix it? The exception pops up saying that it is unhandled, and then the service stops. I even tried putting some code in the event handler, in case it was getting optimized away. Is this not the proper way to set up unhandled exception handling in a windows service?
