  • Lion server profile manager, device enrollment doesn't work

    I am in the process of setting up Lion Servers profile manager to manage iPads on our local school network. I don't need to manage them while they are outside the network. I have successfully had it working on my personal network. The school network is behind a proxy which we have no control over. I can get the iPads to view the mydevices page and install a trust cert. I have managed to get an iPad to successfully install the remote management profile. After this the profile manager bugs out. It will list the active task of 'new device (sending)' but it's unable to complete the task. If I click on the device on profile manager and try any of the actions out they will all fail to complete. I am using the auto generated certificates and this works if I bring the server and iPad outside of the school network.     I'm making a universal iPad/iPhone app which can use the iPad's VGA out connector to mirror the content of the app on an external screen. However, the iPhone does not have this functionality. given the following code, [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(screenInfoNotificationReceieved:) name:UIScreenDidConnectNotification object:nil]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(screenInfoNotificationReceieved:) name:UIScreenDidDisconnectNotification object:nil]; I get this error on the phone at launch (works fine in ipad) "dyld: Symbol not found: _UIScreenDidConnectNotification" presumably because UIScreenDidConnectNotification doesnt' exist yet in 3.13. How do I check for this at runtime?

    I am creating an iPad application and in it I would like to let the user select an image from their photolibrary using the image picker, then I would like to put that image into a template,kinda like a picture on a card then I would like the user to be able to edit the text on the card then saving it into the saved photos album on the ipad.   • Button in App on iOS 4.2 won't work properly

    My app, written for the iPad contains several UIButtons. One of them starts and stops an AVAudioPlayer: hitting the button once starts the player, hitting it again stops it accordingly. Rinse and repeat. This all works nicely on iOS version pre 4.2. When installing the App on an iPad with iOS 4.2, the button turns on and off the audio player exactly once, then stops working properly: after hitting the button, it turns into its selected state, but it does not start the audio player (as it should) and hitting the button again doesn't return it to its default state, either. As previously said: it's all fine and dandy pre 4.2, the problem only arises on the most current OS version. XCode 3.2.4 iPad with iOS 4.2

  • Create proxy to Java app so it can work on the iPhone? [closed]

    okay guys, these are the facts: I have a java chat. I can NOT have any develop-revelant information. So this all is static. It's not my chat. So fact 2: IPad does not have Java and it will not have it in future. So now, the very hard task: bring this both together. My idea: Develope a proxy server for this. 1) The data from the IPad will send to a server. 2) the server recieve data and call the JRE and the complete chat-client 3) The server gets the "chat" himself and send it back to the Ipad Is that and possible idea or bad? Did I oversee something? Anyone have a idea where to start?

  • Rsync to a WebDAV filesystem on OSX copies all files regardless of being changed or not.

    I am trying to sync my (Mac) desktop, with an iPad and an iPhone. OSX mounts WebDAV as a native filesystem, but syncing results in all files in my directory structure being copied again. This occurs when I use rsync -a or even a simple rsync -r. Various iPhone OS apps use the WebDAV server in iPhone OSX to transfer files. This occurs on several apps I use including GoodReader.

  • Date formats in ActiveRecord / Rails 3

    In my model, I have a departure_date and a return_date. I am using a text_field instead of the date_select so that I can use the JQuery datepicker. My app is based in the US for now but I do hope to get international members. So basically this is what is happening. The user (US) types in a date such as 04/01/2010 (April 1st). Of course, MySQL stores it as a datetime such as 2010-04-01... Anyway, when the user goes to edit the date later on, it shows "01/04/2010" because I am using a strftime("%m/%d/%Y) which doesn't make sense....so it thinks it is January 4th instead of the original April 1st. It's like the only way to accurately store the data is for the user to type in: 2010-04-01 I hope all of this makes sense. What I am really after is a way for the user to type in (or use the datepicker) a date in their native format. So someone in Europe could type in 01/04/2010 for April 1st but someone in the US would type in 04/01/2010. Is there an easy, elegant solution to this? Thanks for any suggestions.

  • XCode linking error when targeting armv7.

    I've already spent countless hours puzzling over this, utilizing Google searches and other Stack Overflow questions to no avail. I have an iPhone/iPad universal application, which seems to compile fine when the target is armv6. However, when the device is iPad, I get this warning: warning: building for SDK 'Device - iPhone OS 3.2' requires an armv7 architecture. Oddly enough, the app still runs great on iPad in spite of this warning. However, I do want to do things the "right way" what ever that means in this case. When I switch the target architecture to armv7, I get linking errors: "___restore_vfp_d8_d15_regs", referenced from: *redacted* "___save_vfp_d8_d15_regs", referenced from: *redacted* ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status The "redacted" portions of the errors are references to the static library to which I'm trying to link. Here's what I've tried from the many suggestions online. Each of these were suggested more than once without any explanation, which leads me to believe nobody quite understands this problem: "Never use the drop down menu in the upper left of the XCode window to choose the target. Instead, set this to Base SDK and then the Base SDK to iPhone OS 3.0 in the target configuration. Set the target device to your preferred target (iPad, iPhone OS 3.2 in my situation.)" This yields the error "Library not found for -lcrt1.3.1.o" "Make sure that GCC isn't linking against the wrong version of the standard library. (You'll have to make sure the LIBRARY_SEARCH_PATH doesn't have the wrong path in it.)" My LIBRARY_SEARCH_PATH is already empty, so this doesn't seem relevant. "Try compiling with GCC 4.0 rather than GCC 4.2." I get a syntax error inside a UIKit header file. The error is "Syntax error before 'AT_NAME' token." The line is "UIKIT_EXTERN @interface UILocalizedIndexedCollation : NSObject." Another project compiles just fine with the same target settings, which is really making me question my sanity. Could I be dealing with a corrupt XCode project? If anyone knows what's actually happening and has a reference or doesn't mind explaining it, I would be so very grateful. Cheers!

    What HTML APIs are available for touch screen devices (e.g. tablet PCs)? I notice that GMail's iPad interface (and other mobile interfaces) doesn't scroll down in a normal web browser (pretending to be an iPad via a user-agent hack). How can one access this API on a PC? I have a school full of tablet PCs that aren't wonderful in tablet mode due to lack of application support, but there looks to be an increasing number of web-based apps that will fill this gap.

When the user selects an item on the table view, I would like the parent's view to change in a navigational manner. For those of you that have an iPad, this would be akin to the "Settings" app. But I guess in the "Settings" app, the right pane is composed of a grouped table view right?   • Can a usb cable carry 12v?

    Here's what i'm wanting to do. I have a Acer Iconia A500 tablet. I want to plug it in, in the car, but it has a barrel plug and I don't want to buy an inverter. The car adapters are expensive for what they do. I already have a 2.1 amp usb car charger meant for the iPad: http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-K33497US-PowerBolt-Charger-Compatible/dp/tech-data/B003PU01M4/ref=de_a_smtd And i want to use this usb cable from the 2.1 amp port to plug into the A500: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00304DZ7I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=A1HPBDJJIXKXS7 Here are the specs on the original wall charger if that helps: http://www.phihong.com/assets/pdf/PSA18R.pdf The usb cable says it's 5v, but the original charger says it outputs 12v. But since it's just a cable... wasn't sure if that really made a whole lot of difference since it's only 1.5 amps from the wall charger. Is it possible to use that usb cable through the powerbolt car charger, to charge the A500?

  • WIFI: iPhone/iPad getting much slower bandwidth than laptop

    I just got cable internet installed (Comcast). It claims that my down speed should be 25mbit. Over wifi, I get close to that on my laptop, but only about 8 on average with my iPhone/iPad. I'm using testmy.net in the browser on all devices. I have an ARRIS / Motorola SurfBoard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem and a Medialink Wireless N Broadband Router. I read somewhere that disabling WMM and the firewall on the router would help (is this even a safe idea?). I've tried both, and neither seem to make much of a difference, if any at all (sidebar: I've noticed that my download speeds vary wildly with cable internet... on my laptop, I'll get 12 down, then 22 five minutes later. Is this typical for cable internet?).

  • 'Game Show' presentation

    I work at a state university, and every day of summer orientation we have a little jeopardy-like game that new students' parents play. We run it in an auditorium. Right now the game is a powerpoint presentation (set up similar to jeopardy) off an old laptop running Powerpoint 2003. What I want to do is to purchase & use a smaller tablet/mini-book with a touchscreen. The touchscreen would be much more professional than dragging a mouse around the screen to select category questions. I also want to use hot keys during the presentation for sound effects (for correct + incorrect answers), and I want to play music and show an automated slideshow (photos from the day). This device would need vga or hdmi and audio out. I've been looking at iPads and iPad alternatives, but figured someone out there might have a better idea or done this before.
