  • Prevent <xsi:nil="true"> on Nullable Value Types when Serializing to XML.

    I have added some nullable value types to my serializable class. I perform a serialization using XmlSerializer but when the value is set to null, I get an empty node with xsi:nil="true". This is the correct behaviour as I have found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ybce7f69%28VS.80%29.aspx Is there a way to switch off this option so that nothing is output when the value type is null?

Obviously situations like from text to int will have consequences, but I'm talking about situations like INT-BIGINT, TINYTEXT-TEXT, etc.

    How can I generate types like these using the System.Reflection.Emit libraries: public class Test<T> {} public class Test<T1, T2> {} When I call ModuleBuilder.DefineType(string) with the second type declaration, I get an exception because there is already another type in the module with the same name (I've already defined the type parameter on the first type). Any ideas?

    Does the Visual Studio 2008 debugger implicitly cast all smaller data types to int? I have a function with the following signature: public int DoSomething(sbyte value) { ... } When pass in -127 and I look at the value argument the Visual Studio debugger (e.g. Watch window) shows me that it has the value 0xFFFFFF81. This is correct except for the fact that sbyte is only 8 bits wide; I would expect the debugger to show me that it is 0x81.

    For example, to denote a String I could use: {string,"hjggjhhggJ"} and a list would be: {list, [1,2,3]} : I guess I have found that I am running into situations where I need types, for example to distinguish between strings and lists and I am not sure how to proceed. I do however want to use whatever technique I choose everywhere in my Erlang application for consistency, and not just for strings and lists. Any advice?

It generates a huge amount of logs in the catalina.out folder, most of these are generated while using the application, but are not generated by the application.     Using V3 of the google maps API, is there any reliable way to format addresses with the line break? If I wanted to, I guess I could look for the proper types (street_number,route, etc) as well. I'd love it if anyone had a better way than what I"m doing here...

  • What class structure allows for a base class and mix/match of subclasses? (Similar to Users w/ roles)

    I have a set of base characteristics, and then a number of sub-types. Each instance must be one of the sub-types, but can be multiple sub-types at once. The sub-types of each thing can change. In general, I don't care what subtype I have, but sometimes I do care. This is much like a Users-Roles sort of relationship where a User having a particular Role gives the user additional characteristics. Sort of like duck-typing (ie. If my Foo has a Bar, I can treat it like a ThingWithABar.) Straight inheritance doesn't work, since that doesn't allow mix/match of sub-types. (ie. no multi-inheritance). Straight composition doesn't work because I can't switch that up at runtime. How can I model this?

    Hello, I'm new to linq and I'm trying to databind to an anonymous type. I'm using SubSonic 3.0 as my DAL. I'm doing a select from 2 tables like so var myDeal = (from u in db.Users select new { UserID = u.UserID, UserRoleID = (from ur in u.UserRoles where u.UserRoleID == ur.UserRoleID select ur).FirstOrDefault().UserRoleID }); foreach (var v in myDeal) //dies first time here { } Then when I databind or try to iterate through the collection I get the "Argument types do not match" error during run time. I'm not sure what is going on here.

    Hi everybody, Pretty new to Entity Framework I must admit, but I simply cannot believe that there is no built-in solution for this problem. Let's say I create an EntityCommand: EntityCommand cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text; cmd.CommandText = commandText; And let's say the the commandText is something like this: SELECT sp.UserName, sp.Rights FROM EntityContext.Users as sp WHERE sp.UserName=@UserName Now it would be really neat if the Parameters collection of cmd could be automatically filled. The framework should obviously know the types etc. but I guess that's simply not how it works beneath. The problem is that the commandText is configurable on run-time, and I must show some GUI that asks for values of the parameters. Any idea on how this could be accomplished? Thanks for any ideas and for listening!

    I'm trying to make a generic class that takes 3 types, either a simple string, IList or a IList. public class OntologyStore { } public sealed class jim<T> where T:new() { IList<string> X = null; IList<OntologyStore> X1 = null; public bob() { if (typeof(T) == typeof(String)) { X = new List<string>(); } if (typeof(T) == typeof(OntologyStore)) { X1 = new List<OntologyStore>(); } } } I can easily create, which you would expect to work, jim<OntologyStore> x1=new jim<jim<OntologyStore>() as you would expect, but when I put in jim<string> x2=new jim<string>() the compiler reports the string is non abtract type, which you would expect. Is it possible to create a generic class, which can instantiate as a class which holds string, or a IList or an IList?

  • How do I create interface methods using .tlb types in VS C++?

    Background: The .TLB file contains interfaces written in language 'X'. I don't have .h, .idl, .tlh, or any other header files - just the .TLB file. Language 'X' does not export compatible .h, .idl, etc. I use the VS wizard to add an ATL simple object to my ATL project. I want to add a method to the interface of my simple ATL object that uses one of the .TLB defined types for a parameter. // Something like the following in the .idl file: interface ISomeInterface : IUnknown { HRESULT SomeMethod([in] ITypeFromTLB* aVal); // ITypeFromTLB declared in .TLB file. }; How can I do this? I'm hoping for a wizard, or a line in the .idl interface declaration that would bring in the .tlb information. midl's include (no .tlb), import (no tlb), and importlib (library only) don't seem to provide a solution (I need proxy/stub to be working, so I cannot put this inside the library declaration with the importlib command).   • Can the behaviour of new HTML5 form types be overridden?

    I was wondering if anyone knew if it were possible to override the default behaviour of browsers that support the new HTML input types such as type="email" and type="date"? I appreciate that I could test if a browser supports an input type and provide a fallback for those browsers that don't, but what I want to know is is there any way to prevent that default behaviour from happening in browsers that do support it? For instance, if in Opera I want to use the date input type, but I don't want Opera to display the native datepicker (i.e. I want to replace it with my own custom one) is that possible? Are there any DOM events triggered like onDatePickerShow that one can hook into? I don't believe that this is possible, but if anyone knows for sure one way or the other I would love to hear from you.
