    Is there any fast way to find the largest power of 10 smaller than a given number? I'm using this algorithm, at the moment, but something inside myself dies anytime I see it: 10**( int( math.log10(x) ) ) # python pow( 10, (int) log10(x) ) // C I could implement simple log10 and pow functions for my problems with one loop each, but still I'm wondering if there is some bit magic for decimal numbers.

    How would I execute a query equivalent to "select top 10" in couch db? For example I have a "schema" like so: title body modified and I want to select the last 10 modified documents. As an added bonus if anyone can come up with a way to do the same only per category. So for: title category body modified return a list of latest 10 documents in each category. I am just wandering if such a query is possible in couchdb.

    A while back I spoke about having to go back to BIP's original crosstabbing solution to achieve a certain layout. Hok Min has provided a 'man' page for the new crosstab/pivot builder for 10.1.3.4.1 users. This will make the documentation drop but for now, get it here! The old, hand method is still available but this new approach, is more efficient and flexible. That said you may need to get into the crosstab code to tweak it where the crosstab dialog can not help. I had to do this, this week but more on that later. The following explains how the crosstab wizard builds the crosstab and what the fields inside the resulting template structure are there for. To create the crosstab a new XDO command "<?crosstab:...?>" has been created. XDO Command: <?crosstab: ctvarname; data-element; rows; columns; measures; aggregation?> Parameter Description Example Ctvarname Crosstab variable name. This is automatically generated by the Add-in. C123 data-element This is the XML data element that contains the data. "//ROW" Rows This contains a list of XML elements for row headers. The ordering information is specified within "{" and "}". The first attribute is the sort element. Leaving it blank means the sort element is the same as the row header element. The attribute "o" means order. Its value can be "a" for ascending, or "d" for descending. The attribute "t" means type. Its value can be "t" for text, and "n" for numeric. Customization One new feature I discovered this week is the ability to show one column and sort by another. I had a data set that was extracting month abbreviations, we wanted to show the months across the top and some row headers to the side. As you may know XSL is not great with dates, especially recognising month names. It just wants to sort them alphabetically, so Apr comes before Jan, etc. A way around this is to generate a month number alongside the month and use that to sort. We can do that in the crosstab, sadly its not exposed in the UI yet but its doable. Go back up and take a look a the initial crosstab command. especially the Rows and Columns entries. In there you will find the sort criteria. "ProductsBrand{,o=a,t=t}, PeriodYear{,o=a,t=t}" Notice those leading commas inside the curly braces? Because there is no field preceding them it means that the crosstab should sort on the column before the brace ie PeriodYear. But you can insert another column in the data set to sort by. To get my sort working how I needed. <?crosstab:c794;"current-group()";"_Fund_Type_._Fund_Type_Display_{_Fund_Type_._Fund_Type_Sort_,o=a,t=n}";"_Fiscal_Period__Amount__._Amt_Fm_Disp_Abbr_{_Fiscal_Period__Amount__._Amt_Fiscal_Month_Sort_,o=a,t=n}";"_Execution_Facts_._Amt_";"sum"?> Excuse the horribly verbose XML tags, good ol BIEE :0) The emboldened columns are not in the crosstab but are in the data set. I just opened up the field, dropped them in and changed the type(t) value to be 'n', for number, instead of the default 'a' and my crosstab started sorting how I wanted it. The server has internet access with no issues. eth1 is internal and running DHCP for the clients. I have DHCP working just fine, all my clients can get an IP and ping the server but they cannot access the internet.   • OS X Headphone jack issue [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Optical Audio out stuck on on a MacBook When I plug my headphones into my iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011; OSX 10.8.1) and try to adjust the volume, the volume popup shows a greyed out speaker and there's a circle with a line through it signalling that it isn't working. I've tried the headphones with my iPhone, other iMacs etc and they're fine. This is incredibly frustrating. Other headphones don't generally work either. In Sound preferences the headphones are being listed as "Optical digital-out port" which is incorrect and would explain the problem, but doesn't help me fix it. Any ideas?

What I have done: I've downloaded the Portuguese version of Skype; I have under OSX ? System Preference ? Language & Text the language and country set to Portugal; I have my Skype account country and language set to Portugal, Portuguese. Still the Skype application is using English and AFAIK no menu exists to change the application language within the application itself. I was under the impression that Skype would collect the language from my system preferences as to properly present the menus. How can I change the language to Portuguese then?

    I'm on OSX 10.6.8 and would like to enable the root user. I found Apple's KB article, however this point Click the lock in the Directory Utility window. Enter an administrator account name and password, then click OK. Choose Enable Root User from the Edit menu. is not possible, because there is no "Edit Menu" Icon! I'm logged in as admin, but I only see "Services" and "Search Policy". Repeat, I do not see the "Editor", it's just not there. What gives? How it should be: Directory Utility

  • How do I mount a harddrive to my /home folder in OS X?

    Im wondering how to mount my second HDD to my /home folder like you do in other *NIX systems, making the mount point just that folder and not a standard HDD. I am aware of the method of copying my /home folder and then telling OSX via System Preferences/Users & Groups to look for the folder in a different location. What I am wondering is if there is a way to properly mount the entire HDD to become nothing more than my /home. I don't want it to even show up in Finder as an HDD. Is this even possible?

    I've recently upgraded my iMac to OSX Mavericks. I'm finding that when I press Control-Shift-N something is immediately locking my screen and making it dark. I can still hear my streaming audio playing, so I guess it's not logging me out. I've looked carefully through the list of keyboard shortcuts in System Preferences, and that key combo isn't mentioned anywhere. Is there any place I can get a list of all active keyboard shortcuts? Is there any terminal command I can run to see which application has taken over this keypress combination? It's really annoying because I habitually use that combo in PHPStorm! (And yes, I have checked the keymaps there too.)

    When I try to enable the FTP service in the preferences (File Sharing-Options-Share Files and Folders Using FTP) the check box enables and then disables again. The console is giving me the message : 16/04/2010 12:14:20 com.apple.coreservicesd[51] sh: launchctl: command not found This indicates to me that it can't find the launchctl executable launchctl is present in the folder /bin /bin is set in the PATH variable for sh and bash shells and also in the ~/.MacOS/environment.plist How can I fix this so that my preferences can find this so that I can enable the FTP service.

  • How to reset Bash on Mac OSX, .bash_profile corrupted and bash no longer works

    I am on a MacBook Pro, running the latest version of Mountain Lion. I really need some help, I have managed some how to damage my .bash_profile (I think) so that every time I open up the terminal I get the error listed below. -bash: export: `/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/go/bin': not a valid identifier -bash: export: `/Users/rob/Applications/sbt/bin:': not a valid identifier env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory -bash: tar: command not found -bash: grep: command not found -bash: cat: command not found -bash: find: command not found I am not sure what has happened, I have no sudo, cd or any normal commands. The only way I have been able to get to any of the main directories is through the go to folder command in finder and try to find the file to no avail. To top it all off I think I created a file that might be causing the issue, I wanted to edit the .bash_profile so I typed sudo nano ./bash_profile This open a new file in nano which I think was then saved. After this I opened the real .bash_profile to add in the path for node.js. If I can get to the .bash_profile I think I can get it back on track but I can't find it, should I reinstall bash? If so how would I do that on a mac, I tried using brew install bash to which I get -bash: brew: command not found I am really stuck if anyone can help I would be really appreciated. Many thanks

    I am using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 on my Mac mini, with Samsung monitor with default resolution 1360 x 768. My Mac mini is connected to Samsung VGA port by Apple mini port to VGA adapter. When starting, my Mac does not recognize the wide screen resolution and always starts in a 4:3 mode, (but it shows 1360x768 as the resolution in the settings). I have to do one of the following actions to bring my Mac to the wide screen resolution: (1) Changing to some other resolution and bring back to the default resolution. (2) Unplug the Apple mini port to VGA adapter and re-connect again. (3) Put the machine to sleep and wake it up again. I am using Ubuntu 12.04, (in a different partition) in the same hardware, but Ubuntu is perfectly recognizing the display.

    A friend of mine needs to use SPSS for a project she is working on, and would normally have access to it in her school's library. Unfortunately she's out of town for the next couple weeks, and she's already gone through the trial version once. Is there some way she would be able to re-use the trial version? I've already had her try running a program meant to remove all files associated with a program, but that didn't work it still says she's used up her trial time. Her idea is to install a trial for an earlier version (like SPSS 17 instead of 18) but we're not sure where she would find that either. Any thoughts on how to get her up and running?

  • OS X not booting after upgrading LibXML2

    I tried upgrading the version of LibXML2 in my machine to run some propietary software. Compiled as 32-bit (-arch i386) and restarted to see if it worked. Now when I try to boot I can only get into the spinning screen and it just sits there. Restarting in verbose mode (Cmd-V) does not show any error in the process, it just freezes after "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement: initialization complete". I can't from any CD either (if I press c on startup it just spins the disk around and then stops in the same spinner screen). I've also reset the PRAM/NVRAM to discard any problems with that and it´s still not fixed. Any pointers of what might´ve gone wrong? (Latest gen MBP, running 10.6.3)

Add the os that I added on the menu.lst? How do I add the iso image(os) in the menu.lst? Before adding the .iso files I first made a folder named Windows xp sp2 then placed the .iso files in there. Please help, I think I need to add the folder name or the file name on the menu.lst but I don't know how
