  • Troubleshooting Mid 2007 iMac RAM upgrade

    I am trying to install new RAM in my friends iMac, something I have done several times before. We unplugged the computer before performing the upgrade, used anti static wrist bands, and yes the memory is compatible and inserted correctly. The stock RAM was Hynix 1gb pc2-5300s-555-12 and the memory we are replacing it with is 2x2gb Centon CMP800SO2048.01. Now I know this model number suggests that the ram is 800MHz and the iMac is only 667MHz but it clearly states on the box that this RAM is PC2-5300 667MHz compatible. The problem is, that when I install the new RAM I get little response from the computer. I hear the hard drive and disk drive start to initialize, but then they just stop and the screen remains black. I have tried every variation of the new RAM and the old RAM in both slots and even tried the same RAM from my old iMac and I just can't get it to boot. Has anyone ever had a problem like this? Thank you in advance for any and all input on thus issue!

  • Add shared contacts to Outlook 2007 address book

    Hello we just upgraded from exchange 2003 to 2010. 2010 seems to be pushing people to stop using public folders. Public folders had the nice feature that you could see the contacts of the public folder in your address book. I haven't found a way to add shared contacts to the Outlook address book. How do you do it? If I am unable to find the solution I will likely have to go through the hassle of migrating the public folders over. I was having a problem with that so I went the route of shared contacts.

    I have a user that for some reason lost her "My Site" & "My Links" link on her local computer. When she logs into a Citrix server she can see them. I have had her dump temp Internet files and put the site in her trusted sites but nothing is working. I think thins started after some Windows updates but not sure. Any ideas on this one? BTW, it's not turned off kin Central Admin and none of her group memberships have changed.

  • Sharepoint 2007: Edit vs Read Only Mode

    Sorry about the title, dont' really know what it should be. If I open a doc in read only mode I'm able to press save and then it opens up a save as box and the default directory is the directory on the sharepoint server and if you press save you save it to the server. This actually makes the whole process not really "read only" mode since I could actually update the document. Is there a way to prevent this from happening so that if someone chooses read only there is no way possible to updload any changes back to the sharepoint site? Also, it has been suggested as a solution to get rid of the edit/read only option so that people have to check out the document. Is there a way to remove the edit/read only option on documents?

  • Use Outlook 2007 to connect to mail using active sync protocol

    Has anyone tried connected outlook(I am running v2007 on Windows 7) to a mail service using the MS Exchange Active Sync protocol? I know it is intended for mobile devices, but to me it looks like it is becoming the latest 'de facto' mail protocol for email/calendar/contact sync'ing due to the iPhone's support for it. I just think it would be an elegant solution to get my lotus notes mail in outlook(my company uses lotus notes with traveler service installed that exposes mail over the active sync protocol so I can currently read my notes mail via iPhone). This solution would probably eliminate the need for all the hacks needed to connect outlook to 'X' mail (Gmail, notes, etc) So, maybe someone out there has tried this or knows how to do it before spend time on more researching this. Thanks!

    I have migrated my sitecollection(migsitecollection) to different farm using content deployment job. http://vsmoss/sites/migsitecollection I used collaboration portal to create it.Its working fine from where I migrated it but after running content deployment jobs my new migrated site global navigation settings are not getting saved when I am trying ot change them by going in settings-Navigation and in logs I can see this error The SPNavigation store is likely corrupt. I saw on net the solution for this problem is changing onet.xml and running script on sql database for the site, I am eager to better answer than this but if its the same I have few doubts on it: First,As my site template is not customised its the collobartion portal so I am not sure where exactly to change the onet.xml. Second, I am using the same database as of my webapplication running that script would not affect anything else on the main site of mine?

  • DPM 2007 clashing with existing SQL backup job

    I've recently installed a DPM2007 server on Server 2003 and have set up a protection group against a server 2003 server running SQL 2005 SP3. The SQL server in question has a full backup (as a sql agent job) once a day and transaction log backups hourly. These are zipped up and FTP'd to a server offsite by a scheduled task. Since adding the DPM job I'm receiving many error messages: DPM tried to do a SQL log backup, either as part of a backup job or a recovery to latest point in time job. The SQL log backup job has detected a discontinuity in the SQL log chain for database SERVER_NAME\DB_Name since the last backup. All incremental backup jobs will fail until an express full backup runs. My google-fu suggests that I need to change the full backup my sqlagent job is running to a copy_only job. But I think this means that I can't use that backup with the transaction_logs to restore the database if the building (including the DPM server) burns down. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious and thought I'd see what the hivemind suggests. It is an option to set-up a co-located DPM server elsewhere and have DPM stream the backup but that's obviously more expensive than the current set up. Many thanks in advance

  • Sharepoint Server 2007 generates event log entry every 5 minutes - "The SSP Timer Job Distribution L

    I get the following error logged into the Event Log every 5 minutes: The SSP Timer Job Distribution List Import Job was not run. Reason: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer In addition, OWSTimer.exe periodically gets into a state where its consuming almost all the CPU and only killing the process or restarting the Sharepoint services fixes it (although I'm not sure if this is a related or seperate issue). I have tried the following (based on various suggestions floating around the web), all to no avail: iisreset (no affect) Added the Sharepoint and Sharepoint Search service accounts to Log on as a batch job and Log on as a service policies in the Group Policies for the domain. I went into the Local Computer Policy on the Sharepoint server and verified that those policies had actually been applied Verified that the Sharepoint and Sharepoint Search service accounts are both in the WSS_WPG group Verified in dcomcnfg that the WSS_WPG group (and indeed the Sharepoint and Sharepoint search service accounts) has local activation rights for SPSearch. Any more suggestions would be valued. Thanks

  • Outlook 2007 GAL Phone List

    I just spent a lot of time populating Phone Numbers and Fax Numbers in our GAL/Active Directory. The goal of which was to replace our static *.xlsx file that we use as a corporate phone directory. I know I can see the GAL by clicking on the To... button, and I can see more specific info for a particular user, by adding them as a recipient and double-clicking their name in the To: field. Is there any way (inside Outlook) to have a laundry-list view of all users and phone/fax/mobile/address similar to the phone list view for contacts? Are there any other tools that might provide this functionality. I've used a GAL web interface before, but that cost $ and as I recall was challenging to manage.

    Hi All: Having an issue installing the CCMsetup client on desktops. The CCMSetup makes it to the PC, files are there, it gets added to the services for automatic start, it starts, but quits almost instantly.   • Exchange Mail Flow

    Hello. I have a question. We have one Exchange 2003 server and two Exchange 2007 servers. Most all of our mailboxes are on 2007 but we do still have one shared mailbox, unity mailbox and a journling mailbox on 2003. Public Folders have been set to replicate to 2007. I have set up a send connector on 2007 with a cost of 1. Receive connectors have Anonymous Users checked on 2007. On 2003 there are two connectors: the Internet Email connector and the connector that connects 2003 to 2007. We have a SPAM filtering device that email goes through before it is handed off to Exchange. The SPAM filtering device is set to send email to one of our Exchange 2007 servers. Here is my question/problem: Even though the SPAM filtering device is set to forward email to Exchange 2007, somehow all of our email is still going through the Exchange 2003 server before it finally hits the users mailboxes on the Exchange 2007 server. How can I change it so that all email goes directly to Exchange 2007 and never routes through Excahnge 2003 both ways, inbound and outbound? Would also like to add: In the EMC under Org- Hub- Send Connector there are two connectors. One is the "Internet Connector" from the 2003 box and the other is the new one I created. THe address space on the 2003 one is set to a cost of 2, no smart hosts and the 2003 box is listed as the Source Server. THe other Send Connector has an address space of 1, no smart host and has the 2 excahnge 2007 servers listed as the source servers. In EMC under Server- Hub- my two exchange 2007 servers are listed. Each one has 2 receive connectors. Both Recieve Connectors are setup the same way. THe Default Receive Connector has Anonymous Users checked. The other Recieve Connector is labled "Client" and I am not sure what it does or why its there. Anonymous Users are not checked. No smart hosts configured on 2003. Additional details Currently we have 3 excahnge servers. One exchange 2003 server and two excahnge 2007 servers. THe exchange 2003 server is the acting "bridgehead" serverand all email is routing through this server, inbound and outbound. We are wanting to decommission this server and use our two exchange 2007 servers as our mailbox servers. All of of user mailboxes are already on one of the exchange 2007 boxes and we want to put whats left on the exchange 2003 box on our other excahnge 2007 box. Both excahnge 2007 servers are currently CAS, HT and MB servers. We have a SPAM filtering device that sits between our excahnge servers and the firewall and have it configured to send messages to one of the excahgne 2007 servers but when we look at the message headers we can see that messgaes are still being routed to the excahnge 2003 box. We want to bypass the exchange 2003 in the routing process as it is dying and is starting to have major issues so everytime it goes down our email is down. Is there possible some sort of AD routing link/site link stuff going on?

  • backup of TFS with DPM 2007 - different backup times

    I have DPM set up to back up my TFS server every 30 minutes, the reason being it's a way better interface than the quirky SQL backup interface. I also do a full backup nightly using an SQL maintenance job. My thinking is I would use DPM to restore my databases in case of losing my database and the nightly full backup would be a "just in case" the DPM restore doesn't work. I was thinking a little harder about this set up today and started to think about the fact that the DPM backup of the individual databases happens at different 30 min windows.. i.e. one happens at 13h30, another at 13h34 etc. Would this difference in time be a problem when it comes to restoring the TFS server? If I restore the databases and they are from different times, will this create corruption with pointers in one database pointing to missing items in the other database.. do the databases even rely on each other or are they completely interdependant. Lastly, how would SQL (log) backup cope with this?

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 network adapter stops working, requires hard reboot

    TL;DR version: Turns out this was a Windows Server 2008 R2 kernel networking bug. After siccing Microsoft support on it, we (eventually) got an unpublished kernel hotfix from Microsoft to address it. If you, too, are experiencing mysterious low-level network driver failures requiring a reboot/bluescreen cycle, you might want that hotfix (or maybe Service Pack 1 whenever it is released, too.) We have been using HAProxy along with heartbeat from the Linux-HA project. We are using two linux instances to provide a failover. Each server has with their own public IP and a single IP which is shared between the two using a virtual interface (eth1:1) at IP: 69.59.196.211 The virtual interface (eth1:1) IP 69.59.196.211 is configured as the gateway for the windows servers behind them and we use ip_forwarding to route traffic. We are experiencing an occasional network outage on one of our windows servers behind our linux gateways. HAProxy will detect the server is offline which we can verify by remoting to the failed server and attempting to ping the gateway: Pinging 69.59.196.211 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 69.59.196.220: Destination host unreachable. Swapping network cards and switches I noticed the link light on the port of the switch for the failed windows server was running at 100Mb instead of 1Gb on the failed interface. I moved the cable to several other open ports and the link indicated 100Mb for each port that I tried. I also swapped the cable with the same result. I tried changing the properties of the network card in windows and the server locked up and required a hard reset after clicking apply. This windows server has two physical network interfaces so I have swapped the cables and network settings on the two interfaces to see if the problem follows the interface. If the public interface goes down again we will know that it is not an issue with the network card. (We also tried another switch we have on hand, no change) Changing network hardware driver versions We've had the same problem with the latest Broadcom driver, as well as the built-in driver that ships in Windows Server 2008 R2. Replacing network cables As a last ditch effort we remembered another change that occurred was the replacement of all of the patch cords between our servers / switch. We had purchased two sets, one green of lengths 1ft - 3ft for the private interfaces and another set of red cables for the public interfaces. We swapped out all of the public interface patch cables with a different brand and ran our servers without issue for a full week ... aaaaaand then the problem recurred. Disable checksum offload, remove TProxy We also tried disabling TCP/IP checksum offload in the driver, no change. We're now pulling out TProxy and moving to a more traditional x-forwarded-for network arrangement without any fancy IP address rewriting. We'll see if that helps. Switch Virtualization providers On the off chance this was related to Hyper-V in some way (we do host Linux VMs on it), we switched to VMWare Server. No change. Switch host model We've reached the end of our troubleshooting rope and are now formally involving Microsoft support.   • Excel 2007 pivot table does not aggregate properly

    I am using a an excel pivot table to summarize some data and just found a problem. The problem deals with how aggregate values are calculated. Let's say I have a table of data with three columns: Name, Date, Value. If I create a table where Name and then Date are used as Row Labels and Value is the aggregate value, ie Average. The pivot table will look something like this: +John .3450 5/14/2010 1.234 5/15/2010 3.450 5/16/2010 -3.25 What I think should be happening here is that the values for each date are averaged and then those values are averaged to come up with the value in the same row as the Name, John. But that is not what it does. It takes the average for each date, which it shows across from the date, but then instead of taking the average of those numbers, it actually uses the raw data and computes the average for all of John's values. It should show the average of the daily averages to correspond with the tree hierarchy, but instead just shows me the average for all of John's values. It essential will only aggregate at one level, but visually creates sub levels that it is not using. Does anyone know how to change this or understand by what logic this makes sense? Why would I create any sub groupings if I cannot compute aggregates on them?

  • Excel 2007 - Adding line breaks in a cell and no line over 50 characters

    I have notes stored in an excel cell. I add line breaks and dates every time I add a new note. I need to copy this to another program, but it has a line limit of 50 characters. I want a line break for each new date and for when each date's comment goes over 50 characters. I'm able to do one or the other, but I can't figure out how to do both. I'd prefer words not to be split up, but at this point I don't care. Below is some sample input. If needed for a SUBSTITUTE or REPLACE function, I could add a ~ before each date in my input as a delimiter. Sample Input: 07/03 - FU on query. Copies and history included. CC to Jane Doe and John Public 06/29 - Cust claiming not to have these and wrong PO on query form. Responded with inv sent dates and locations, correct PO values, and copies. 06/27 - New ticket opened using query form 06/12 - Opened ticket with helpdesk asking status 05/21 - Copy submitted to [email protected] 05/14 - Copy sent to John Public and [email protected] Ideal Output: 07/03 - FU on query. Copies and history included. CC to Jane Doe and John Public 06/29 - Cust claiming not to have these and wrong PO on query form.   • MOSS 2007 Sharepoint Shared Services AD Import SQL/Search Error prevents user import

    When attempting to import new AD users (Shared Services Administration Shared Service User Profiles and Properties) I receive an error on the top of the User Profiles and Properties page. "An error has occurred while accessing the SQL Server database or the Office SharePoint Server Search service. If this is the first time you have seen this message, try again later. If this problem persists, contact your administrator." I have tried the following: Rebooted server Checked service account permissions and passwords Checked the MIPSCHEDULEDJOB table to ensure all 6 required entries are there.
