With Primavera P6 in place, the company could deliver the precise scheduling and milestone reporting capabilities required for large public projects. The solution is in managing the high-profile University of California – Berkeley Memorial Stadium project. Webcor was hired as construction manager and general contractor for the stadium renovation project, which is a fast-paced project located near the seismically active Hayward Fault Zone. Due to the University of California’s football schedule, meeting the Universities deadline for the coming season placed Webcor in a situation where risk awareness and early warnings of issues would be paramount. Hired by the University for their ability to deliver in high risk environments The Webcor team was hit recently with a design supplement that could have added up to 70 days to the project. Using Oracle Primavera P6 the team sprung into action analyzing multiple “what if” scenarios to review mitigation means and methods.  Determined to make sure the Bears could take the field in the coming season the project team nearly eliminated the impact with their creative analysis in working the schedule. The total time from the issuance of the final design supplement to an agreed mitigation response was less than one week; leveraging the Oracle Primavera solution Webcor was able to deliver superior customer value With the ability to efficiently manage projects and schedules, Webcor can ensure it completes its projects on time and on budget, as well as inform clients about what changes to plans will mean in terms of delays and additional costs.   Hi all! We are here again to intorduce you some of our new NetBeans 7.3 features. Today we'll show you some another Twig improvements. So let's start! Code Templates First feature is about Code Templates. We added some basic templates to improve your Editor experience. You will be really fast with it! If someone don't know what Code Templates are, they are piece of code (snippet) which is inserted into editor after typing its abbreviation and pressing Tab key (or another one which you define in Tools -> Options -> Editor -> Code Templates -> Expand Template on) to epxand it. All default Twig Code Templates can be found in Tools -> Options -> Editor -> Code Templates -> Twig Markup. You can add your custom templates there as well. Note: Twig Markup code templates have to be expanded inside Twig delimiters (i.e. { and }). If you try to expand them outside of delimiters, it will not work, because then you are in HTML context. If you want to add a template which will contain Twig delimiter too, you have to add it directly into Tools -> Options -> Editor -> Code Templates -> HTML/XHTML. Don't add them into Twig File, it will not work. Interpolation Coloring The second, minor, feature is, that we know how to colorize Twig Interpolation. It's a small feature, but usefull :-) And that's all for today and as usual, please test it and if you find something strange, don't hesitate to file a new issue (product php, component Twig). • Parleys Testimonial at GlassFish Community Event, JavaOne 2012

  Parleys.com is an e-learning platform that provide a unique experience of online and offline viewing presentations, with integrated movies and chaptering, from the top notch developer conferences and about 40 JUGs all around the world. Stephan Janssen (the Devoxx man and Parleys webmaster) presented at the GlassFish Community Event at JavaOne 2012 and shared why they moved from Tomcat to GlassFish. The move paid off as GlassFish was able to handle 2000 concurrent users very easily. Now they are also running Devoxx CFP and registration on this updated infrastructure. The GlassFish clustering, the asadmin CLI, application versioning, and JMS implementation are some of the features that made them a happy user. Recently they migrated their application from Spring to Java EE 6. This allows them to get locked into proprietary frameworks and also avoid 40MB WAR file deployments. Stateless application, JAX-RS, MongoDB, and Elastic Search is their magical forumla for success there. • Fixed Assets Recommended Patch Collections

  After the introduction of the Recommended Patch Collections (RPCs) in late 2012, Fixed Assets development has released an RPC about every six months.  You may recall that an RPC is a collection of recommended patches consolidated into a single, downloadable patch, ready to be applied.  The RPCs are created with the following goals in mind: Stability:  Address issues that occur often and interfere with the normal completion of crucial business processes, such as period close--as observed by Oracle Development and Global Customer Support. Root Cause Fixes:  Deliver a root cause fix for data corruption issues that delay period close, normal transaction flow actions, performance, and other issues. Compact:  While bundling a large number of important corrections, the file footprint is kept as small as possible to facilitate uptake and minimize testing. Reliable:  Reliable code with multiple customer downloads and comprehensive testing by QA, Support and Proactive Support.  There has been a revision to the RPC release process for spring 2014.  Instead of releasing product-specific RPCs, development has released a 12.1.3 RPC that is EBS-wide.  This EBS RPC includes all product-recommended patches along with their dependencies. • 50 Billion Served: Java Embedded on Devices

  It doesn't matter if it is 50 billion or 24 billion, just suffice it to stay that there will be MANY connected devices in the year 2020. With just 24 billion devices, they will outnumber humans six to one! So as a developer, you don't want to ignore this opportunity. What if you could use your Java skills and deploy an app to a fraction of these devices (don't be greedy, how about just, say, 118,000 of them)? Fareed Suliman, Java ME Product Manager had lots of good news for Java Developers in his presentation Modernizing the Explosion of Advanced Microcontrollers with Embedded Java at ARM TechCon in Santa Clara, CA last week. "A radical architecture shift is underway in this space, from proprietary to standards-based," he explained.  He pointed out several advantages to using Embedded Java for devices: Java is a proven and open standard. Java provides connectivity, encryption, location, and web services APIs. You don't have to focus on and keep reinventing the plumbing below the JVM. Abstracting the software from the hardware allows you to repeat your app across many devices. Abstracting the software from the hardware allows allows parallel development so you can get your app done more quickly. You already know Java (or you can hire lots of Java talent). Java is a full ecosystem, with Java Embedded plugins for IDEs like Eclipse and NetBeans. Java ME allows for in-field software upgrades. Suliman mentioned two ways developers can start using Java Embedded today:  Java ME Embedded Suite 7.0 Oracle Java Embedded Suite is a new packaged solution from Oracle (including Java DB, GlassFish for Embedded Suite, Jersey Web Services Framework, and Oracle Java SE Embedded 7 platform), created to provide value added services for collecting, managing, and transmitting data to embedded devices such as gateways and concentrators. Oracle Java ME Embedded 3.2 Oracle Java ME Embedded 3.2 is designed and optimized to meet the unique requirements of small embedded, low power devices such as micro-controllers and other resource-constrained hardware without screens or user interfaces. • Using EPEL repos with Oracle Linux

  There's a Fedora project called EPEL which hosts a set of additional packages that can be installed on top of various distributions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Scientific Linux and of course also Oracle Linux. These packages are not distributed by the distribution vendor and as such also not supported by the vendors (including Oracle) however for users that want to pick up some extras that are useful, it's very easy to do this. All you need to do is download the EPEL RPM from the website, install it on Oracle Linux 5 or Oracle Linux 6 and run yum install or yum search to get the packages. example : # wget http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/i386/epel-release-6-5.noarch.rpm # rpm -ivh epel-release-6-5.noarch.rpm # yum repolist Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit, rhnplugin repo id repo name status epel Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 6 - x86_64 7,124 The folks that build these repositories are doing a great job at adding very useful packages. They are free, but also unsupported of course.

• Oracle Tutor - Is Anyone Reading Your Documentation?

  If you are responsible for documenting your business practices, wouldn't it be nice to know if anyone is using the documentation? If the employees find it useful? You might want to consider surveying the users of the documentation on a regular basis. There are a number of free survey tools online (search for "free survey tools"), and you can have a survey ready in a matter of minutes. It's as simple as gathering a list of questions and a list of email addresses. For the questions, here are some suggestions. How often do you access the policy and procedure site? How useful is the site? How easy is it to navigate the site? How often are your questions answered on the site? What suggestions do you have to make the site more useful? You may want to consider just asking a few questions each month so that employees can complete the survey in less than 5 minutes (you'll get more responses). Make sure you have several comment boxes in the survey so that the employees can give suggestions. As the users of your documentation, the employees may have some terrific ideas that will enhance the usability of your policy and procedure site.
