I have tried quite a few of them, from my google searches, but none work, they all come up and say no proper driver can be found for your hardware.     Can't get this to work at all! I'm trying to get this linux box to act as a transparent proxy and, with the help of DHCP, force everyone on the network to gate into the proxy. I have two ethernet connections, both to the same switch. And I'm trying to get 192.168.1.234 to become the default gateway. The actual WAN connection is to a gateway 192.168.1.1. eth0 is 192.168.1.234 eth1 is 192.168.1.2 Effectively I'm trying to make eth0 a LAN only interface and eth1 a WAN interface. I've oi should set the gateway for eth1 to point to 192.168.1.234 my squid.conf file has the following directives added at the bottom: nly set eth0 to have a gateway address in /etc/network/interfaces I'm not sure whether http_port 3128 transparent acl lan src 192.168.1.0/24 acl lh src 127.0.0.1/255.255.255.0 http_access allow lan http_access allow lh i've added the following routing commands: iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.1.2:3128 iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth1 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-ports 3128 I set a computer with TCP settings 192.168.1.234 as the gateway and opened up google.com, but it comes up with a request error. But how can I insert some middle layer, to check emails messages for special words/etc., so something like spam assasin proxy, but custom product.   • Quicksilver doesn't open PDF's like it used to

    I've been using Quicksilver for a while now but lately I've been getting this problem that QS doesn't show the Acrobat Reader icon when a PDF is selected, but goes to the "Open With" tab. See the screenshot here: http://skitch.com/niels.bom/n8nw5/google-reader-1000 Is this a bug? Or did I somehow bork a preference setting? I'm using QS B54, 3815, which is the latest AFAIK and Mac OS X 10.5.8. Thanks!

  • Why is my router not routing?

    Starting a week and half ago my router stopped working with my cable modem. I went to sleep with it working and woke up with it not. I swapped in another router and am still having issues; I was gone for 10 days so now I'm back to trying to figure it out. While I was gone I left everything (cable modem, router, and computer) powered off. My setup: Comcast Ambit cable modem (from Comcast) Netgear WGR614 v4 router -- replaced with Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 Windows XP SP3 other computers, all currently unplugged The modem is using the firmware (ver 2.105.2001) provided by Comcast; hardware version 1.3 The Linksys router is using FW ver 4.71.4 (latest for this release of HW), factory defaults I am only using the wired connections; no wireless. I have swapped out all of the cat5 cable. If I plug my computer directly into the cable modem, I can ping by name or number. Everything works perfectly. If I plug my computer into the router and the router into the modem, I cannot access anything outside of my local network. This is the exact setup I've used for the past 5 years; there were no changes in the past year. Now here's the interesting part: I can log into the Linksys router and get status information from it; everything appears good. Using the Diagnostics, I can run ping and traceroute to any site on the internet. These work perfectly. From my computer, I can ping the router and the modem. However, I cannot ping anything on the internet by with name or number. If I plug in another computer, I can ping it successfully. I've included two transcripts below that show these two attempts. Addresses, DNS, gateways, etc. look good. I cannot access the internet through either router. I am at a loss here. Suggestions? Help!   • Looking for speech-to-text tool (convert .wav to text)

    I have the ability to get .wav files of voice mails emailed to me, but sometimes I'll be sitting in a meeting and I need to know the content of a message without playing it out loud. Are there any good (and, preferably, free) tools for converting .wav files to text? I know Google Voice has this capability, but I can't determine if it'll work on a file-by-file basis. I realize that this is a difficult research problem, but even an 80% solution might be workable.

  • chroot on OSX as a different OS

    I was wondering if anyone has been able to use chroot on OSX to run another OS (ubuntu, centos). I know that they are very different, but almost everything I want to use this for wouldn't care about anything at the level of the kernel, so was hoping there would be a way to do this without using a VM. Based off my google searches, I see this question is asked, but no real answer other than "try a VM". Would really like to do this without a VM though.

UPD: Changing pooling time, switch off one of agent, doesnt help. I look at zabbix log (recieved data from snmpd) and see that: sorry for russian locale, just look at numbers: and thats is not true, as my "iftop" show speed was about 90Mbits, but snmpd return 2Mbits. I understand that snmpd doesnt return speed, it return just a counter. But how its possible? why 2Mbit/s ? I tryed recompile snmpd with 64-bit counters, and without it. In both variants this blank fields present. So i think its my OS (freebsd) doesnt update interface counters well. I still collect tcpdump for found this request/response. But have problem with that, to much trash. UPD2: I decrypt tcpdump-ed file, and public this as google doc at gdocfile Timediff looks strange.. Like zabbix sometimes "forget" do request, and then do twice at row, ehh UPD3: I parse log from command "while true; do netstat -bin -I vlan4008 /var/log/netstat; sleep 300; done" and load as google docs, and add formula for speed : link Looks like all counters in OS are good. Now i think problem in : 1. zabbix get request twice at row (and what about cacti) 2. snmpd use counter32

    I recently noticed that BIND has been producing a large amount of logs in /var/syslog relating to one particular server (ezdns) What can I do to prevent these logs from appearing? Why would this server be the only server that is causing BIND to produce these logs? I've search around google and have found a few different solutions for hiding these logs, but I would like to know why this one server is so troublesome

    I sometimes see web based applications (eg Avairy, Google Docs) labeled as "software". Is this the true meaning of software? Isn't it supposed to mean applications that run natively on an OS, such as Photoshop or Outlook? Or does it mean ALL applications whether native or web-based?

  • How is incoming SMTP mail being delivered despite blocked port

    I setup a MX mail server, everything works despite port 25 being blocked, I'm stumped as to why I am able to receive email with this setup, and what the consequences might be if I leave it this way. Here are the details: Connections to SMTP over port 25 and 587 both reliably connect over my local network. Connections to SMTP over port 25 are blocked from external IPs (the ISP is blocking the port). Connections to Submission SMTP over port 587 from external IPs are reliable. Emails sent from gmail, yahoo, and a few other addresses all are being delivered. I haven't found an email provider that fails to deliver mail to my MX. So, with port 25 blocked, I am assuming other MTA servers fallback to port 587, otherwise I can't imagine how the mail is received. I know port 25 shouldn't be blocked, but so far it works. Are there mail servers that this will not work with? Where can I find more about how this is working? -- edit More technical detail, to validate that I'm not missing something silly. Here is a portion from the mail log when receiving a message from gmail: postfix/postscreen[93152]: CONNECT from [209.85.128.49]:48953 to [192.168.0.10]:25 postfix/postscreen[93152]: PASS NEW [209.85.128.49]:48953 postfix/smtpd[93160]: connect from mail-qe0-f49.google.com[209.85.128.49] postfix/smtpd[93160]: 7A8C31C1AA99: client=mail-qe0-f49.google.com[209.85.128.49] The log shows that a connection was made to the local IP on port 25 (I'm not doing any port mapping, so it is port 25 on the public IP too). Seeing this leads me to hypothesize that the ISP block on port 25 only occurs when a connection is made from an IP address that is not known to be a mail server. Any other theories?
