  • How do "professionals" make a GUI in java ?

    Thanks for your answers to my previous question about GUI in java. I now wonder what are the solutions chosen by professionals to get a nice GUI, for "real" applications. Do you use swing and JComponents and just change the "look and feel" ? Do you prefer awt or another library ? Sorry if that question sounds weird, I'm a student and I don't really know how java is used in the real world...

    My solution is split into 3 projects. Model, Services and Web. In my Service project, I'd like to use some F# features in it. Is it possible to add mix both F# and C# files in that project (a library[.dll])? If not possible, whats the best way to use 2 separate service projects, one for C# and one for F# and how would I structure these projects?

    I once found a nifty little library that used JNI to allow java applications on Windows to get the locations of various "special" directories on windows. I can't for the life of me find it again... In particular, I need to get the location of the "All Users" (shared) "Application Data" directory. So, anyone have a bullet proof way in Java to locate the "All Users" "Application Data" folder? It needs to be bullet proof.

However, according to the getting started tutorial I am meant to create an object of type "object" and in order to return a value of null (due to use of generic types).     It seems that CompilationMode=Never doesn't permit Sessions to be properly wired. It first complains that the EnbaleSessionState directive is not allowed on this page. Explicitly assigning the System.Web.SessionState.IRequiresSessionState to the Page [1] avoids the null reference exceptions (around .Session access) but still doesn't persist or wire-up sessions correctly. Has anyone successfully used ASP.NET Sessions with CompilationMode=Never? Conceptually, why should these be disjoint??   • How strict to be when using Qt framework?

    I'm building a Qt application that needs to use libssh, a SSH client library. libssh (understandably) performs its own network connections, however Qt has its own infrastructure for network connections (QTcpSocket etc). Should I worry about these differences? Should I be trying to make libssh make network connections via QTcpSocket... Or if it works fine on the platforms I'm targeting, is that good enough?
