• A global login (many sites)

  We are a growing network but we figured we want to keep that the User only would need one account in order to access the network different sites. (Similar to Stackoverflow's login, If you login in to another "site" you use your account credentials and than your account is created). We want our own login system (Username, password) and not OpenId, as we'd probably have that in the future, but the main focus right now is the global login. How can I do this? Do a Curl request and send back a cookie? Have a "database" just for the login procedure and on first login also create a new "User" in the site specified database? Suggestions?.

Notice they are in incorrect order, to get my point across. • C++ vector that *doesn't* initialize its members?

  I'm making a C++ wrapper for a piece of C code that returns a large array, and so I've tried to return the data in a vector<unsigned char>. Now the problem is, the data is on the order of megabytes, and vector unnecessarily initializes its storage, which essentially turns out to cut down my speed by half. How do I prevent this? Or, if it's not possible -- is there some other STL container that would avoid such needless work? Or must I end up making my own container? (Pre-C++11) Note: I'm passing the vector as my output buffer. I'm not copying the data from elsewhere.

• Cocoa: NSUserNotification appears behind NSPopover

  I have no idea where to even start trying to fix this but maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I have a status item application that shows a popover when clicked, some user interactions produce an NSUserNotification to warn/inform about changes or errors. But when the notification appears it is shown behind the popover, so if they overlay the user can't read what it says. Is there a way to force the notification to appear in front of the popover? Like order the notification to the front. Thanks for the help.

• Way to kill python thread from inside thread?

  I have some python code that currently performs expensive computation by performing the computation in parallel through many threads. For a given time period, many threads are created and started on the fly that share the same code which is explicitly stated within the run method of the thread. My question is how do I stop/kill a thread at the end of its run method? • Changing input button to image?

The first button (smaller one) works properly, but the second button (bigger one) isn't adding the order to the shopping cart. • SQL query for selecting most recent entries

  A table in my database has a column, DATE_ADDED (stored in seconds). I want to extract all rows with the most recent date (aka largest value for DATE_ADDED). The only solution I have come up with is to SELECT all the rows in ASC (ascending) order, grab the last entry from the table, check the date on this, and perform another SELECT on the table but this time only for the discovered DATE_ADDED. Is it possibly to simplify this series of queries into a single one? My thought is I should be able to do a SELECT on all of the largest values in the table, but I am struggling to come up with a proper query.

• An NSMutableArray that doesn't retain?

  A few UIViewControllers in my app that need to register with a "provider" class in their viewDidLoad methods. I've just been adding them to an NSMutableArray contained in the provider class. However, I don't want this NSMutableArray to keep them from being dealloc'ed, and I also want to have them remove themselves from the NSMutableArray in their dealloc methods. I tried just issuing a [self release] after adding them to the array, and this works, but in order to avoid a crash when they get dealloc'ed, I have to issue a [self retain] right before I remove them. It seems like I'm doing something horribly wrong by retaining an object in it's own dealloc method. Is there a better way to store these values?

In my "Add New Product" page I have a field dropdown-list named "Start Week" which holds the year and week, for example, "2012/36". How do I disable the past week? I all I want to enable is the current week. • Nesting if else statements in PHP to validate a URL

  I'm currently writing up a function in order to validate a URL by exploding it into different parts and matching those parts with strings I've defined. What I would like to do check each part of the URL, starting with $tnet_2, and if it fails one of the checks ($tnet_2, $tnet_3, $tnet_5 or $tnet_7), output that it fails, and break out of the if statement. Is there an easy way to accomplish this using some of the code I have already?

  I'm having difficulty creating a month-count select query in SQL. Basically, I have a list of entries, all of which have a date associated with them. What I want the end result to be, is a list containing 12 rows (one for each month), and each row would contain the month number (1 for January, 2 for February, etc), and a count of how many entries had that month set as it's date. Something like this: Month - Count 1 - 12 2 - 0 3 - 7 4 - 0 5 - 9 6 - 0 I can get an result containing months that have a count of higher than 0, but if the month contains no entries, the row isn't created. I get this result just by doing SELECT Month(goalDate) as monthNumber, count(*) as monthCount FROM goalsList WHERE Year(goalDate) = 2012 GROUP BY Month(goalDate) ORDER BY monthNumber Thanks in advance for the help!

  I have an inventory system, where a User has many inventory. We have a barcode column which needs to be sequential for each user. I run into a problem however when doing bulk association building. I end up getting several inventories for a user with the same barcode. For example: Inventory Table: id | user_id | barcode 1 | 1 | 1 2 | 1 | 2 3 | 2 | 1 4 | 2 | 2 5 | 1 | 3 In the Inventory model I have before_validation :assign_barcode, on: :create def assign_barcode self.barcode = (user.inventories.order(barcode: :desc).first.try(:barcode) || 0) + 1 end It generally works, but ran into a problem when seeding my db: (1..5).each do user.inventories.build(...) end user.save I end up with a bunch of inventories for user that have the same barcode. How can I ensure that inventories have unique barcodes even when adding inventories in bulk?

In order to use conditional logistic regression in R I would like to reformat the tables to be like: event_id player1 player2 result 1 a b 1 1 a c 1 1 a d 1 1 b c 1 1 b d 1 1 c d 1 2 b e 1 2 b f 1 2 b a 1 2 b g 1 2 e f 1 2 e a 1 2 e g 1 2 f a 0.5 2 f g 1 2 a g 1 An event_id of 4 players will have 4*3/2 = 6 records in the new table, 5 players will have 5*4/2 = 10 records and so on. If player "a" has "finish" less than player "b" the "result" is 1. If "finish" is equal the "result" is 0.5. If player "a" has finish greater than player "b" then the "result" would be 0.   I am using a SQLite database to store values from a data logger. The data logger will eventually fills up all the available hard drive space on the computer. I'm looking for a way to remove the last 25% of the logs from the database once it reaches a certain limit.
