• Ruby on Rails - can't access datetime model object

  I've created a model that has 3 string columns and a datetime. Everything is running in SQLite3 and I can view the records in my table just fine using Lita. I'm trying to display the values in a page (index action) using code like this: <% @details.each do |lifeCycle| % <%= debug(lifeCycle)% <%= lifeCycle.lifeCycleId % <%= lifeCycle.eventType % <%= debug(lifeCycle.timeId) % <% end % From the debug I get a result like this: --- !ruby/object:LifeCycle attributes: eventType: Order created_at: "2111359287.23037" timeId: "2455364.89983796" eventId: "98765" updated_at: "2111359287.23037" lifeCycleId: "12345" id: "1" attributes_cache: {} But whenever I try to access the event timeId - i' getting a nil value. This is true if i try to run debug on just that field debug(lifeCycle.timeId), or call a function on it. Is there something obvious I'm missing here?

  Hi i'm looking for a way to highlight specific words in text kind of like how a text editor might work with syntax highlighting. The highlighting will consist of the text being different colours and/or different styles such as italic, bold or regular. In order to narrow focus, how this might be achieved using Java Swing components. There are most probably a number of ways of doing this but one that is efficient in dealing with multiple highlighted words and large amounts of text. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

The way each of the sections Design / Technology / Safety / Performance I want to know how each section can expand and still fit together. I've started with MOUSE_OVER events, but I'm not entirely sure how to order them so each section is the right size for every mouse over Event. For example: In iteration 1, execution order should be "Thread0-thread1-thread2" then in iteration 2 should be same i.e "Thread0 - thread1-thread2" and so on. The sample code is just executing 3 threads only once. It is not going to 2nd iteration. I have been asked to do so by using SET based approach.   In my django app I display a list of elements (friends name) thanks to a loop: <div> {% for friend in group %} <p>{{ friend.name }} <p> {% endfor %} </div> I would like to create a search box on the top of my list in order to be able to find only the friends the user wants. I would like the search bar does not need to click to send the request (an example is the Airtime searchbox on top of the facebook friends list). I have absolutely no idea on how to do that, and I'm looking for hints or tips to start. Thank you very much for your help.

  I need to create scenario for user interaction with single-page WEB application. The application does lots of AJAX calls in order to authenticate user and get user data. So I created simple scenario with HTTP Test Script Recorder and tried to record my script. Everything went well, however I noticed that whilst request data is recorder properly, the response data is not recorder at all. I tried to enable Add assertions and Regex matching - but that didn't work as well. Can you please advice how do I record response texts as well?

  In order to fix a bug, I have to iterate over all the rows in a table, updating a cached count of children to what its real value should be. The structure of the things in the table form a tree. In rails, the following does what I want: Thing.all.each do |th| Thing.connection.update( " UPDATE #{Thing.quoted_table_name} SET children_count = #{th.children.count} WHERE id = #{th.id} " ) end Is there any way of doing this in a single MySQL query? Alternatively, is there any way of doing this in multiple queries, but in pure MySQL? I want something like UPDATE table_name SET children_count = ( SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table_name AS tbl WHERE tbl.parent_id = table_name.id ) except the above doesn't work (I understand why it doesn't).

• The right way to implement communication between java objects

  I'm working on an academic project which simulates a rather large queuing procedure in java. The core of the simulator rests within one package where there exist 8 classes each one implementing a single concept. Every class in the project follows SRP. These classes encapsulate the behavior of the simulator and inter-connect every other class in the project. The problem that I has arisen is that most of these 8 classes are, as is logical i think, tightly coupled and each one has to have working knowledge of every other class in this package in order to be able to call methods from it when needed. The application needs only one instance of each class so it might be better to create static fields for each class in a new class and use that to make calls -instead of preserving a reference in each class for every other class in the package (which I'm certain that is incorrect)-, but is this considered a correct design solution? or is there a design pattern maybe that better suits my needs?

  If I try to get endpoints for every year, for example, and do the following: xts.data <- xts(1:10000, order.by=seq(from=as.Date("1970-01-01"), by=1, len=10000)) z <- endpoints(xts.data, on="months", k=12) The return value for this is: > z [1] 0 10000 Same with numbers higher than 12. Why would xts simply not return indices of every year or 13th month starting from the beginning. Is it limited by the number of periods in a year? That is if i did: z <- endpoints(xts.data, on="weeks", k=54) This seems to work fine.

• C# Generics Multiple Inheritance Problem

  Can any one help me with this syntax issue with C#? I have no idea how to do it. class SomeClass<T> : SomeOtherClass<T> where T : ISomeInterface , IAnotherInterface { ... } I want SomeClass to inherit from SomeOtherClass and IAnotherInterface and for T to inherit ISomeInterface only It seems the problem is that the where keyword screws everything up so that the compiler thinks both ISomeInterface and IAnotherInterface should both be inherited by T. This problem is very annoying and I think the solution is some kind of parenthesis but I have tried and failed finding one that works. Also, switching around the order of the two items inherited from SomeClass does not work because the class inherited always has to come before any interfaces. I couldn't find any solutions on the MSDN C# generics pages and I can't beleive I'm the first person to have this problem. Thanks, any help is much appreciated!

• Vew not updating after scope update

  Here is a very simple example of what I am trying to do Athlete.save(athlete,function(result) { $scope.athlete = result.athlete; }); The issue is that the $scope.athlete variable does not update in my view. In order to get it to update I have to do this Athlete.save(athlete,function(result) { $scope.athlete.fname = result.athlete.fname; $scope.athlete.lname= result.athlete.lname; $scope.athlete.gender= result.athlete.gender; .... }); This gets annoying very quickly. With the first block of code it's as if angular does not know that my $scope.athlete variable has been updated.   I have a table_1: id custno 1 1 2 2 3 3 and a table_2: id custno qty descr 1 1 10 a 2 1 7 b 3 2 4 c 4 3 7 d 5 1 5 e 6 1 5 f When I run this query to show the minimum order quantities from every customer: SELECT DISTINCT table_1.custno,table_2.qty,table_2.descr FROM table_1 LEFT OUTER JOIN table_2 ON table_1.custno = table_2.custno AND qty = (SELECT MIN(qty) FROM table_2 WHERE table_2.custno = table_1.custno ) Then I get this result: custno qty descr 1 5 e 1 5 f 2 4 c 3 7 d Customer 1 appears twice each time with the same minimum qty (& a different description) but I only want to see customer 1 appear once. I don't care if that is the record with 'e' as a description or 'f' as a description. How could I do this ? Thx!

  In a script you must include a #! on the first line followed by the path to the program that will execute the script (e.g.: sh, perl). As far as I know though, the # character denotes the start of a comment and that line is supposed to be ignored by the program executing the script. It would seem though, that this first line is at some point read by something in order for the script to be executed by the proper program. Could somebody please shed more light on the workings of the #! ? Edit: I'm really curious about this, so the more in-depth the answer the better.

• Is it a good idea to include a large text variable in compiled code?

  I am writing a program that produces a formatted file for the user, but it's not only producing the formatted file, it does more. I want to distribute a single binary to the end user and when the user runs the program, it will generate the xml file for the user with appropriate data. In order to achieve this, I want to give the file contents to a char array variable that is compiled in code. When the user runs the program, I will write out the char file to generate an xml file for the user. char* buffers = "a xml format file contents, \ this represent many block text \ from a file,..."; I have two questions. Q1. Do you have any other ideas for how to compile my file contents into binary, i.e, distribute as one binary file. Q2. Is this even a good idea as I described above?

  Thinking about this question on testing string rotation, I wondered: Is there was such thing as a circular/cyclic hash function? E.g. h(abcdef) = h(bcdefa) = h(cdefab) etc Uses for this include scalable algorithms which can check n strings against each other to see where some are rotations of others. I suppose the essence of the hash is to extract information which is order-specific but not position-specific. Maybe something that finds a deterministic 'first position', rotates to it and hashes the result? It all seems plausible, but slightly beyond my grasp at the moment; it must be out there already...

  Hi, Imagine I already have a query that returns the following: Col1 | Col2 ------------ A | 2 B | 3 C | 3 D | 4 E | 8 ... Say I used something like this: select Col1, count ( * ) as Col2 \ from ... where ... order by Col2 \ group by Col1 \ So now, all I want to select are (Col1, Col2) such that it returns the selections (a, b) and (c, d) where (b >= all (Col2)) and (d >= ((all (Col2)) - a)). So for the above example, it would return {(A, 2), (B, 3), (C, 3)}. How do I go about doing this? Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

• Matlab: plotting frequency distribution with a curve

  I have to plot 10 frequency distributions on one graph. In order to keep things tidy, I would like to avoid making a histogram with bins and would prefer having lines that follow the contour of each histogram plot. I tried the following [counts, bins] = hist(data); plot(bins, counts) But this gives me a very inexact and jagged line. I read about ksdensity, which gives me a nice curve, but it changes the scaling of my y-axis and I need to be able to read the frequencies from the y-axis. Can you recommend anything else?

• What is the compatible JQuery line of code for IE7 and IE8?

See the scenario below in order to understand what I really mean:- Scenario:- Loading .aspx page. populating text box with some data from database. Now user changes data in same text-box at client-side (means page not yet submitted) So here in firefox, the above line of javascript is showing me the actual data came from database, but IE7&8 showing me the changed data. • Recursive MySQL function call eats up too much memory and dies.
