  • Migrating WebLogic 10.3.0 to new host. Slow managed server startup times

    We are migrating our Blue Martini Commerce application (only supported on WebLogic 10.3.0) to a new host (Redhat 6.3 on a VMWare ESX vm). We are seeing extremely slow start up times for our managed server(s) that is basically 20x slower than our current production. As a for instance the Publish managed server takes ~30 - 45 seconds in current production and in the new environment it takes ~10 minutes. The setup uses the same domain structure and JVM as the current production environment. The same setup files are used. We use jdk1.6.0_33 on 64 bit architecture. We used the generic 64bit weblogic installer and used pack / unpack utilities to migrate the domain. The JAVA_OPTS to start this server are: "-d64 -Xms256m -Xmx512m -XX:PermSize=48m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m" The sysadmins have checked /etc/sysctl.conf and /etc/limits.conf to ensure we were not hitting some kind of process limit. As I am not sure what this managed server does from a Blue Martini perspective during the phase of startup I also had the DBA check to ensure that Oracle RAC (11.2.0.3) wasn't also hitting some kind of process limit or if there was a tns listener issue. The new host is quite a bit stricter with their server lock downs so there are a few differences.... Redhat 6.3 in new env, RH 5.7 in current SElinux is targeted in new env and disabled in current VM in new env and dedicated hardware in current iptables disabled in current. It was enabled in new prod but I had them disable it just in case I apologize for not being more specific. I am mostly hoping got some tips. I do not have the typical root access I would normally have in this environment. I am just hoping got a path forward. I did a few 'kill -3' to see if there are blocked threads and I got nadda.     The answer to another SO question was to use this SQL query: SELECT o.Id, o.attrib1, o.attrib2 FROM table1 o JOIN ( SELECT DISTINCT Id FROM table1, table2, table3 WHERE ... ) T1 ON o.id = T1.Id Now I wonder how I can use this statement together with the keyword FOR UPDATE. If I simply append it to the query, Oracle will tell me: ORA-02014: cannot select FOR UPDATE from view Do I have to modify the query or is there a trick to do this with Oracle? With MySql the statement works fine.

  • Best Method For Storing Values

    Basically, I want to have a database that's lightweight and I won't need to install a million other things on my clients computers for them to access this. I just need a simple method of reading and writing values so that they're not hardcoded into the program. I could do MySQL (which is what I'm very familiar with), but it doesn't need to be making calls remotely. I would have less than 10 fields and one table, if that matters. Thanks!

  • large databases in sqlite - file size considerations?

    I'm using a sqlite db which is very convenient and seems to meet all of my needs at this point. Currently my db size is <50MB, but I now need to add a new table which will store large text blobs, which will cause the db to reach up to 5GB within the next year. Would sqlite be able to deal with a 5GB db size? Any caveats to that, compared with say mysql?

    sql servr 2005 - Standard; one dedicated sql server (VM); windows server 2003; Small databases; About once a week we lose all sql connections. It seems to fix itself after about 5-10 minutes. System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown. --- System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. We don't have a fully qualified DBA; it's kind of a joint effort here. Can somebody give me some general ideas for troubleshooting the network side and the application side? We already ran a few tuning profiles and ran through Database Tuning Advisor to apply indexing recommendations. It would sure be nice if there was a way to take a snapshot of what was running on sql server when these 100% cpu spikes occured, but sometimes we're not around. Is it common to throttle CPU for certain processes? Can this be done with Windows server 2003? For example, if security apps were making cpu spike to 100%, is there a way to limit their cpu usage? Any advice is appreciated. thanks,

    Im using python to access a MySQL database and im getting a unknown column in field due to quotes not being around the variable. code below: cur = x.cnx.cursor() cur.execute('insert into tempPDBcode (PDBcode) values (%s);' % (s)) rows = cur.fetchall() How do i manually insert double or single quotes around the value of s? I've trying using str() and manually concatenating quotes around s but it still doesn't work. The sql statement works fine iv double and triple check my sql query.

    Hi, In my table I have two fields among others : article_id and *version* *example: article_id : 5 // version 1 aricle_id: 5 // version 2 article_id: 6 // version 1* What i want to do is to retrieve the latest version for each article id (in my example i want to retrieve the article 5 version 2 object and article 6 and version 1 object). The problem is that mysql is doing the groupBy instead of the OrderBy so it returns to me the FIRST version of each article, but i want the opposit. Do you have an idea please ?
