• compile c problem in emacs (ubuntu)

  I wrote a very simple program like: ( sorry, I typed the code in the right way, but the display is wired. How could I fix it?) #include <stdio.h> int main( void ) { int i; for ( i = 0; i <= 10; i++ ) { printf( "%d hello!\n", i); } return 0; } Usually, I compile c program in terminal with the command cc -o xxx xxx.c So in Emacs, when I type M-x compile, I change make -k to cc -o. But I got error like cc: argument to '-o' is missing What's the problem? If I use make, then I still got error No targets specified and no makefiles found. Finally, if the above problem is fixed, how could I define a custom hotkey for compile? I have already know how to do something like global-set-key [f8] 'goto-line But I don't know to set a hotkey for an action only for c-mode.

• Problem running firefox built from source (on Ubuntu 9.10)

  The title of the question sums it up pretty well. I've downloaded the source for firefox 3.6 and built it (no errors), but when I try to run it, I get a warning that says: (firefox-bin:2857): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple times I'm not sure what to try now. Any suggestions? Or even a better place to ask this question? *EDIT - It's not that I only get a warning, that wouldn't bother me. The problem is that the warning is the only thing that ever happens (no firefox windows show up or anything). When I run it from the terminal, that warning shows up twice and then nothing else happens (it just hangs and I have to Ctrl-C it).

  I have a ArrayList returned from a service which contains date-timestamp as String values (with values: 2010-05-06T23:38:18,2010-05-06T23:32:52,2010-04-28T18:23:06,2010-04-27T20:34:02,2010-04-27T20:37:02) to be more specific, This is part of a parent ArrayList ObjectHistory. This list contains the datestamp and serial number. I need to pick the correct serial number. Objecthistory is the List object and I need to get the latest timestamp within this ObjectHistory. I need to pick the latest timestamp from this Arraylist in Java 6. How should I be doing this? Should I do convert these values into calendar-time? I am in panic mode as this has to be done directly in production.

• Ubuntu 10.10, taskbar

  I launched system monitor to kill one program, which didn't responded on any mouse clicks, etc. But i occasionally killed another process. so, taskbar was killed. (it was in the bottom of the screen, in the top all is good) reboot didnt help o_O. Now I use Alt-Tab and alt-controll-arrows to switch between programs and desktops (it works). How to launch taskbar again? its very strange that reboot didnt help me.

• Qt drag/drop: cannot move when copy is enabled (Ubuntu Gnome)

  I'm implementing a view and a model where I want to support both moving items internally (by dragging), and copying items (by pressing Ctrl while dragging). I've done everything I need to do according to the instructions. I've set up the mime functions, I've implemented removeRows(), and flags(). The problem is when I drag, it defaults to a copy operation (I get the arrow cursor with a plus sign, and it indeed copies the item by creating a new one in the model). The only difference I can see is this: If I return only Qt::MoveAction in supportedDropActions(), it only moves. If I return (Qt::CopyAction | Qt::MoveAction), it only copies. Any ideas? I want it to work like files in Nautilus (Gnome) or Windows file Explorer: drag moves icons around, ctrl+drag copies them.

• Problem Installing Xubuntu 12.04 Audio-Video codecs

  I used Crouton to install Xubuntu 12.04.4 LTS with the XFCE environment on my HP Chromebook 11. I've gotten it all fully installed and everything; the only thing I'm doing now is the basic setup things, like adding codecs and other things like LibreOffice, VLC, Firefox, Ubuntu Software Center, etc. This information I got from 2 sources: http://www.efytimes.com/e1/fullnews.asp?edid=137269 http://www.binarytides.com/better-xubuntu-14-04/ . I'm currently on the same step at both URLs, which is #6 on Link 1 and #8 on Link 2. Per the articles, which both said the same thing, I typed in sudo apt-get install xubuntu-restricted-extras libavcodec-extra and it didn't do anything. It just kept on saying the same thing: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package libavcodec-extra I've spend the last hour or so scouring the internet for a solution, for a hint even at what is going on. I don't want to do a clean reinstall, for two reasons: 1) it's takes like 1.5h just to get the croot fully installed, and 2) everything but this out of what I've done so far (up to #6 at Link 1 & up to #8 at Link 2) works except the audio. I've already installed flash, so YouTube works fine. It's just I can't hear any audio. Please help? Thanks in advance. I appreciate all the great help I've been getting from AskUbuntu lately. • Missing X-Spam-Status header

  I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (trusty) and have followed the directions in https://help.ubuntu.com/14.04/serverguide/mail-filtering.html and am sending and receiving mail just fine. While I do see X-Virus-Scanned headers in my messages, which suggests mail is indeed being processed, I do not see any X-Spam-Level or X-Spam-Score headers being added to messages. This makes downstream procmailrc and client-side filtering ...more difficult. While having $final_spam_destiny = D_DISCARD in /etc/amavis/conf.d/20-debian_defaults does greatly reduce spam to my inbox, I had concerns of false-positives prior to tuning and didn't know were there going, so have set it to D_PASS for the time being. This exposed the problem. I'm not sure where to look to start diagnosing the problem (otherwise I'd post a suspect configuration file). /etc/amavis/conf.d/15-content_filter_mode has the lines uncommented to enable virus and spam checks, and virus checking appears to be working according to the headers. Spam Assassin certainly seems to be starting just fine, too.   I have 2 video cards, one On board, a nVidia 6150SE nForce 430 and a PCIe nVidia GeForce GT 220 1GB DDR2 RAM I have already configured the PCIe card to use the dual monitor feature, using the VGA and HDMI ports, but now I want to add a third monitor, using the On board VGA port I have managed to enable the On board graphics processor, which is taking 400MB of ram, but I cant manage to use it, nvidia-settings does not detect it, like it's not usable (but is there) My questions are the following: How can I manage to get the On board VGA display to work together with the PCIe graphics card? If possible, how can I recover those 400 MB the on board card is taking (even without being used) or how can I get it to use the PCIe card available memory?   I have had chronic slow wifi connections on several networks for a while now, I think since my update to 12.04 when it came out. I have tried many of the tips and tricks already available out there in the forums with no luck (wicd, etc..). I want to see if any of you experts out there might be able to help me, and thanks in advance!! I use ubuntu 12.04 on a lenovo ideapad y650, and most networks I connect to lose the connection frequently or do not give appropriate bandwidth when I am connected.   I had synergy setup working fine with version 1.3.7, however I got a new computer and decided to set it up as well. Because the setup I was working with was ubuntu (server - dual monitors) mac (client) and the new computer (replacing the mac) was windows, I ended up updating everything to 1.4.10. ______ ______ ______ | mac | ubu1 | ubu2 | |______|______|______| The problem is currently that dragging to the left of ubu1 causes the cursor on the mac to flicker briefly and then the cursor shows up at the bottom right corner of ubu2. • Computer won't reboot without waiting for a while

  I've got an unusual problem with my computer. When ever I reboot my computer it won't boot, I get a few beeps from the BIOS and nothing else, however if I wait for a few minuets the computer will boot perfectly. I tried to count the beeps and I get around 7-9 of them; the first two are noticeably closer together than the rest. [Edit: I'm now reasonably confident it's 1 long followed by 8 short beeps. • Sudo won't execute command as another user

  I'm trying to get a unicorn server to start when the server boots. Now I get the following error sudo: unicorn_rails: command not found I've searched high and low to what could cause this, but I'm afraid I've tapped my limited understanding of Linux. From what I can understand is that although sudo should use the ubuntu user to execute the commands, it still uses the environment of the root user, which isn't configured to run ruby or unicorn. Does anybody have any experience with this?

• DVD not detected?

  As i insert a DVD in my drive (on a laptop) using Kubuntu 12.04, the DVD is not detected. The drive takes the DVD, I can hear it munching on it for a while, and then nothing. Even ejecting the DVD becomes a hassle, I need to do that at boot time otherwise the OS won't allow me to eject. Kubuntu 12.04 used to read and mount the same DVDs just fine a week ago. Edit: since I am able to boot from CD, can I safely assume the issue is not a hardware issue?
