What I'm looking for is something like _var is Vector.<*> But Vector.<*> is not a valid expression, even Vector. can not be placed at the right side of operators. Is there a way to check if an input argument is a valid Vector of any type?

  I had the bright idea of using a custom error handler which led me down a rabbit hole. Following code gives (with and without custom error handler): Fatal error: Only variables can be passed by reference function foo(){ $b=array_pop(array("a","b","c")); return $b; } print_r(foo()); Following code gives (only with a custom error handler): (2048) Only variables should be passed by reference function foo(){ $a=explode( '/' , 'a/b/c'); $c=array_pop(array_slice($a,-2,1)); return $c; } print_r(foo()); The second one worries me since I have a lot of 'compact' code. So, I either ditch the bright idea of using a custom error handler (to improve my logging module) or expand all my code. Anyone with better ideas? Also, WTF?

  I have an NSArrayController which is bound to a class in my Managed Object Context. During runtime the NSArrayController can have a number of different filter predicates applied. At certain intervals, I want to iterate through my NSArrayController's contents regardless of the filter predicate applied to it. To do this, I set the filterPredicate to nil and then reinstate it after having iterated through my array. This seems to work, but I'm wondering if it's best practice? Should I instead be polling my Managed Object Context manually? • Copying a 14bit grayscale image (saved in long[]) to a pictureBox

  My camera gives me 14bit grayscale images, but the API's function returns a long* to the image data. (so i'm assuming 4 bytes for each pixel) My application is written in C++/CLI, and the pictureBox is of .NET type. I am currently using the BitmapData.LockBits() mechanism to gain pointer access to the image data, and using memcpy(bmpData.Scan0.ToPointer(), imageData, sizeof(long)*height*width) to copy the image data to the Bitmap. For now, the only PixelFormat that is working is 32bit RGB, and the image appears in shades of blue with contours. Trying to initialize the Bitmap as 16bppGrayscale isn't working. I would ideally want to cast the array from long to word and using a 16bit format (hoping the the 14bit data will be displayed properly) but I'm not sure if this works. Also, I don't want to iterate over the image data, so finding the min/max and then histogram stretching to [0..255] isnt an option for me (the display must be as efficient as possible) Thanks

• My Ruby Code: How can I improve? (Java to Ruby guy)

  Greetings, I get the feeling that I'm using ruby in an ugly way and possibly missing out on tonnes of useful features. I was wondering if anyone could point out a cleaner better way to write my code which is pasted here. The code itself simply scrapes some data from yelp and processes it into a json format. The reason I'm not using hash.to_json is because it throws some sort of stack error which I can only assume is due to the hash being too large (It's not particularly large). • In the following implementation of static_strlen, why are the & and parentheses around str necessary

  If I change the type to const char str[Len], I get the following error: error: no matching function for call to ‘static_strlen(const char [5])’ Am I correct that static_strlen expects an array of const char references? My understanding is that arrays are passed as pointers anyway, so what need is there for the elements to be references? • An image from byte to optimized web page presentation

  I get the data of the stored image on database as byte[] array; then I convert it to System.Drawing.Image like the code shown below; public System.Drawing.Image CreateImage(byte[] bytes) { System.IO.MemoryStream memoryStream = new System.IO.MemoryStream(bytes); System.Drawing.Image image = System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(memoryStream); return image; } (*) On the other hand I am planning to show a list of images on asp.net pages as the client scrolls downs the page. The more user gets down and down on the page he/she does see the more photos. So it means fast page loads and rich user experience. (you may see what I mean on www.mashable.com, just take care the new loads of the photos as you scroll down.) Moreover, the returned imgae object from the method above, how can i show it in a loop dynamically using the (*) conditions above. Regards bk

  I'm trying to get the back-ground image of a legacy div (by which I mean it already has a background image, which I cannot control & thus have to initially over-write) to smoothly rotate indefinitely. • How to load secure S3 images into Flex with temporary URLs

  I have some secure images on S3 that I need to load into Flex. I was expecting to be able to do this using signed temporary URLs but can't get it working. I know the URLs I'm generating are correct, because they load fine in my browsers' address bar. Moreover, Flex has no problem loading my images with a non-signed url when they are public, but as soon as I try signing the urls all the images fail, whether public or not. I've tried image.source = signedURL, image.load(signedURL), etc. If I try loading the file with URLLoader/URLStream, it looks like I'm getting the data OK, but I'm not sure how to translate those results to an Image control. Is this just an issue with the Image control not being able to recognize signed urls? Do I have to load the image from a byte array? What would that look like?

Var: fh: File Of Tfulldata; I want to analyse the data in the files (many MB in size) using Python if possible - is there an easy way to read in the data and cast the data into Python objects similar in form to the Delphi records? Does anyone know of a library perhaps that does this?

• iPhone / NSArray : How do I format a text file to be read in using arrayWithContentsOfFile

  I have several large word lists and I had been loading them in place in the code as follows: NSArray *dict3 = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:@"abled",@"about",@"above",@"absurd",@"absurdity", ... but now it is actually causing an exc_bad_access error weirdly, i know it seems implausible but for some reason IT IS causing it. (trust me on this I just spend the better part of a day debugging this crap) Anyway, I'm looking to get these humongous lines of code out of my files but I'm not sure what the best approach is. I guess I could do a plist but I need to figure out how to automate the process. it be easiest if I could just use the text files I've been compiling so if anyone knows how I can format the text file so that the myArray = [NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile: @"myTextFile.txt"]; will be read in correctly as one word per element in the array it would really be appreciated. • C++ Microsoft SAPI: How to set Windows text-to-speech output to a memory buffer?

  Hi all, I have been trying to figure out how to "speak" a text into a memory buffer using Windows SAPI 5.1 but so far no success, even though it seems it should be quite simple. There is an example of streaming the synthesized speech into a .wav file, but no examples of how to stream it to a memory buffer. In the end I need to have the synthesized speech in a char* array in 16 kHz 16-bit little-endian PCM format. Currently I create a temp .wav file, redirect speech output there, then read it, but it seems to be a rather stupid solution. Anyone knows how to do that? Thanks!

For example, # does not work simple.map do |n| if n%2 == 0 return :even else return :odd end end # Desired result: # => [:odd,:even,:odd,:even,:odd] is not valid ruby, and the compiler gets mad at me for even thinking about it. But how would I implement an equivalent sort of thing, that works?

• About enumerations in Delphi and c++ in 64-bit environments

  I recently had to work around the different default sizes used for enumerations in Delphi and c++ since i have to use a c++ dll from a delphi application. On function call returns an array of structs (or records in delphi), the first element of which is an enum. To make this work, I use packed records (or aligned(1)-structs). However, since delphi selects the size of an enum-variable dynamically by default and uses the smallest datatype possible (it was a byte in my case), but C++ uses an int for enums, my data was not interpreted correctly. Delphi offers a compiler switch to work around this, so the declaration of the enum becomes {$Z4} TTypeofLight = ( V3d_AMBIENT, V3d_DIRECTIONAL, V3d_POSITIONAL, V3d_SPOT ); {$Z1} My Questions are: What will become of my structs when they are compiled on/for a 64-bit environment? Does the default c++ integer grow to 8 Bytes? Are there other memory alignment / data type size modifications (other than pointers)?

• Why isnt php reading my cookie?

  at index.php i have a form to fill out some settings. the form posts to setsettings.php at setsettings.php it uses the form data and sets some cookies and redirect back to index.php. if i print_r($_COOKIE) at setsettings.php all is well. but nothing comes up at index.php, the $_COOKIE array is empty :( Does somebody know how i go about solving this? I set det setting by (setsettings.php): /* Write new cookie */ $expire = 60 * 60 * 24 * 60 + time(); // ~2 months setcookie("user_var_001", $_POST['selection'], $expire); and in index.php print_r($_COOKIE) turns up blank;

• database table in Magento does not exist: sales_flat_shipment_grid

  We're using Magento 1.4.0.1 and want to use an extension from a 3rd party developer. The extension does not work, because of a join to the table "sales_flat_shipment_grid": $collection = $model->getCollection()->join('sales/shipment_grid', 'increment_id=shipment', array('order_increment_id'=>'order_increment_id', 'shipping_name' =>'shipping_name'), null,'left'); Unfortunately this table does not exist n our database. So the error "Can't retrieve entity config: sales/shipment_grid" appears. If I comment this part out, the extension is working, but I guess, it does not proper work. Does anybody know something about this table? There are a backend-option for the catalog to use the "flat table" option, but this is only for the catalog. And the tables already exists, no matter which option is checked. Thank you a lot! :-)

• SSIS process files from folder

  Background: I've a folder that gets pumped with files continuously. My SSIS package needs to process the files and delete them. The SSIS package is scheduled to run once every minute. I'm picking up the files in ascending order of file creation time. I'm building an array of files and then processing-deleting them one at a time. Problem: If an instance of my package takes longer than one minute to run, the next instance of the SSIS package will pick up some of the files the previous instance has in its buffer. By the time the second instance of teh package gets around to processing a file, it may already have been deleted by the first instance, creating an exception condition. I was wondering whether there was a way to avoid the exception condition. Thanks.
