  Hi, I just compiled my own kernel for the first time. At it is written in a tutorial I now want to check whether the kernel got written into the grub.conf file. Well, I did not find a grub.conf file. So I googled. Answer: Ubuntu does not have grub.conf, but rather has a menu.lst (also stored in /boot/grub). So I looked for that file. But I don't have that one either. So now the question: Where is my GRUB data stored? Im using Ubuntu 10.10 with Kernel 2.6.35-27

  I've used MS office for many years now. Especially powerpoint. One of the strengths is that it defines and separates the concepts of template and theme. A theme can be saved and contains fonts, colours, and a set of images that can be reused every time you create a new presentation. This ensures that everyone in your organization uses exactly the same colours and fonts all the time. Now I know that you can download templates for LibreOffice, but I have not seen anything similar to the theme concept. The file extensions used in MS office are the following for the two concepts mentioned: Example Powerpoint template file name: mytemplate.potx Example Powerpoint theme file name: mytheme.thmx Now back to my question: Do these concepts and their separation exist in LibreOffice or OpenOffice? If so, how do I create them?

• How should programmers handle email-username identity theft?

  Background I recently signed up for an iTunes account, and found that somebody had fraudulently used MY email to register their iTunes account. Why Apple did not validate the email address, I will never know. Now I am told that I cannot use my email address to register a new iTunes account, as this email address is linked to an existing account. This got be thinking... Question How should we as developers handle email/identity theft? Obviously, we should verify that an email address belongs to the person it is said to belong to. Why Apple did not do this in my case, I have no idea. But lets pretend we use email address for login/account identification, and something slipped though the cracks (be it our end, or the users). How should we handle reports of fraudulent accounts?

  Hi there I am thinking to get certification done for MCSD. http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/cert-mcsd-web-applications.aspx I did found the books for first exam 480 comprising CSS3, HTML5 and JavaScript. However I did not found books for other exams: 486: ASP.NET MVC 4.5 Apps - Will ASP.NET 4 books suffice for this? Should I also learn Web Forms though I have considerable part of it. 487: Windows Azure and Web Services - What book should I use? I seems that the syllabus is too huge and will take considerable time. Anyone suggesting any advice to complete such exams, since this is going to be my first such. How should I prepare? Should I give this exam? Will it help? Sorry I know I asked many questions here in one questions - a bad practice but the books-question is a big concern for me.

  I'm redesigning the website for my academic library and am examining other sites to determine to identify the technologies used. Things like: Web frameworks Javascript frameworks Server-side technology Content management system Now I've had some real success in Firefox using plugins like Wappalyzer, Firebug, and the DOM Inspector. But some sites just don't display any of the info. I'm looking for using these tools, especially it seems it an enterprise-level CMS is being used. Does anyone know of any other tools to detect this kind of data? Also with Firebug & the DOM Inspector, there is a lot of info. displayed and I wondered if there was a way to derive the presence of server-side technologies, CMS's, etc. within certain elements of a web page?   As you know in Ubuntu Software Center is 2 times Adobe Flash Plugin. One is called Adobe Flash Plugin and other Adobe Flash Plugin 10. Which of the two to install? Or rather it is the recommended installation methods? If we think well, we can install the Adobe Flash plugin for Firefox from the notification date (Install missing plugin) or walking on the Adobe website and downloading the package .deb. After all, how to properly install Flash Player on Linux Ubuntu? (But my biggg question is why are 2 Adobe Flash Plugin on USC? ...for what? If you click on "More Info", the description are the same for both)

• Pointless Code In Your Source

  I've heard stories of this from senior coders and I've seen some of it myself. It seems that there are more than a few instances of programmers writing pointless code. I will see things like: Method or function calls that do nothing of value. Redundant checks done in a separate class file, object or method. if statements that always evaluate to true. Threads that spin off and do nothing of note. Just to name a few. I've been told that this is because programmers want to intentionally make the code confusing to raise their own worth to the organization or make sure of repeat business in the case of contractual or outsourced work. My question is. Has anyone else seen code like this? What was your conclusion was to why that code was there? If anyone has written code like this, can you share why?

  I'm working on a simple multiplayer game that receives a random 4x4 matrix from a server and extracts a shape from it. For example: XXOO OXOO XXOX XXOO XOOX and XOOO XXXX OXXX So in the first matrix the shape I want to parse is: oo o oo and the 2nd: oo oo ooo I know there must be an algorithm for this because I saw this kind of behavior on some puzzle games but I have no idea how to go about to detecting them or even where to start. So my question is: How do I detect what shape is in the matrix and how do I differentiate between multiple colors? (it doesn't come only in X and O, it comes in a maximum of 4). Additionally, the shape must be a minimum of 4 blocks.

  OpenDNS is almost completely useless with a dynamic ip and most people have dynamic ip addresses. There isn't even a decent client for Linux to update your IP. There is a script you can install but it only seems to update on startup and all my child needs to do is unplug and replug the cable from the wall or router and a new ip is created totally killing the opendns service . I'm not even sure the Mac or windows ip update clients can protect from such a simple maneuver . How can I get my ip address to constantly update with opendns, is my question.

I heard that some very very early versions of C compilers for personal computers (I guess it's around 1980) resided on two or three floppy disks and so in order to compile a program one had to first insert the disk with "first pass", run the "first pass", then change to the disk with "second pass", run that, then do the same for the "third pass". Each pass ran for dozens of minutes so the developer lost lots of time in case of even a typo. How realistic is that claim? What were actual figures and details?

I'd like to support md2 as the native file format for 3D Objects, but I also want to use skeletal meshes. Does anyone know if the md2 file format supports skeletal meshes? In-case you need to know, I'm going to use blender as my Mesh creation tool and C++ as my programming language... Thanks For got to mention, the engine is based on OpenGL...   I've to read a big XML file with a lot of information. Afterwards I extract the needed information (~20 Points(columns) / ~80 relevant Data (rows, some of them with subdatasets) and write them out in a Excel File. My Question is how to handle the extraction (of unused Data) part, should I copy the whole file and delete the unused parts, and then write it to excel or is it a good approach to create Objects for each column? should I write the whole xml to excel and start to delete rows in excel? What would be performant and a acceptable solution?
