• Eclipse antRunner command line build has wrong dependency build order

  My team's Eclipse RCP app builds fine from the Eclipse IDE. When I try to build it from the command line, using the antRunner application, it builds the plugins out of order -- a plugin builds before it's dependencies are built, and so can't resolve some of the needed classes. Where should I look to fix this? As far as I can tell, the dependencies are set up correctly (a feature that depends on a plugin that depends on another plugin). I have my build.properties and folder structure set up as specified here. Is there anything else I should look at?

• Problem creating PostGIS template database

  I am trying to build a template geographic database for PostGIS (1.5) on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) for my GeoDjango application. I am following: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/gis/install/#creating-a-spatial-database-template-for-postgis I've managed to come up to the point where the provided postgis.sql should be run (i.e. psql -d template_postgis -f $POSTGIS_SQL_PATH/postgis.sql) At that point I am getting an error at the first SQL statement that is tried to be run.   I've noticed that as I progress in my career I my day to day activities require less and less actual hands on development. However, I feel that I need to stay current, both for my own personal desire as well as being able to guide a team to best practices etc. I'm finding it very hard to stay on top of the game because there are so many new frameworks, technologies and patterns coming out. Do I concentrate on a particular aspect or framework? Do I become a generalist or a specialist? What are others doing to maintain a certain level of proficiency and currentness (sic)?

• Merging two folders using git

  I'm working on a project with some people who have never used git before. Not knowing the capabilities of git, they created two version of the project: development and production. These two versions are both present in the current environment. To complicate things further, this other user created these folders in addition to the old development folder. So the project directory looks like this /root /proj (old dev folder with my own code in it) /dev_proj (new folder which I would like to merge /prod with) /prod_proj (production code) So what I'd like to do is merge the work that I've done in /proj with the work in the /dev_proj. Is there a way to do this with git? I've thought about creating a branch, copying all the files from /proj to /dev_proj and merging that branch with master. Would this work? Thanks and if I could clarify something let me know.

• How to learn flex?

  So I'm starting an internship as a Flex developer in ~2weeks thanks to a friend of mine. The thing is I know squat about Flex - it is an internship after all so I'm supposed to learn there, but nonetheless I want to have some basic understanding of Flex before I start (eventually I want to become a JEE/Flex dev). So my question is simple, which book(s) would you recommend me to start with? Are there any "must have" books, like let's say "Thinking in C++" for C++ etc.? I already heard about a few video tutorials and I will surely check them out but I'd also want to get some decent books.

• What is the accepted pattern for WPF commanding in MVVM?

  I'm working on a WPF app and I understand the command pattern pretty well, but I've found that there are several different implementations of the command pattern for MVVM. There's Josh Smith's implementation in his WPF sample app, the DelegateCommand from Prism, and the CommandBindings implementation. My question is, what is the generally accepted best practice for using commands with MVVM? My application uses Prism so DelegateCommand is available to us. The devs on my team are arguing about which approach is "best." Some don't like the numerous .cs files generated for each command, others prefer that everything be wired up via CommandBindings. I'm at a loss. Can anyone shed some light?

  My team is trying to setup an Apache reverse proxy from a customer's site into one of our web applications. http://www.example.com/app1/some-path maps to http://internal1.example.com/some-path Inside our application we use struts and have redirect = true set on certain actions in order to provide certain functionality. The 302 status messages from these re-directs cause the user to break out of the proxy resulting in an error page for the end user. HTTP/1.1 302 Found Location: http://internal.example.com/some-path/redirect Is there any way to setup the reverse proxy in apache so that the redirects work correctly? http://www.example.com/app1/some-path/redirect

  I have a business plan & money to hire a developer - the essentials involve simple online games for children (played via traditional computer over the internet) such that their scores are uploaded to a database that can be viewed via a nice portal. What I don't know is: what technologies I would want my developer to know (the only somewhat unusual requirement I have is that the games have relatively accurate timing of keypresses/mouse presses) how much I should expect to pay (in general, what is the appropriate range) how many hours a program of the complexity of a simple tower defense -type game should take to develop (to be clear, the idea is not to implement TD, but rather other games of similar complexity) whether I should go with capable acquaintances, some online kind of online web-dev bidding site, or just try to find a capable undergraduate at the local university who I can wow with his/her first big paycheck, how I should communicate the software's specifications to my hired developer...   Hi, follow this question, I was able to set some textareas in my admin page as richtext inputs. The most voted answer suggests to follow an example and is what i did. Also, it talks about a problem concerning "blank pages". I'm having the same problem and I'm not able to solve it. I have my media files served by a different server, so MEDIA_URL points to a different host with a different port. To simulate this in my dev environment, I also serve media files from a different port. Debugging the failing javascript, Chrome yelds: Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL http://localhost:8000/admin/blog/post/add/ from frame with URL http://localhost:88/s3mangerie/js/tiny_mce/themes/advanced/image.htm. What's going on and how can I fix it? We're on ASP.NET 2.0, and I'm using http://stackoverflow.com/questions/549016/user-impersonation-with-asp-net-forms-authentication as a guide. UPDATE: It appears that the user actually is impersonated successfully but is loosing their Role as admin (only Admin Role's can access this impersonation page).

complete Looks like the SATA interface tries to use 6Gbps link, then fails miserably and Linux fallbacks to 3Gbps. This is somewhat fine for me, as the system boots successfully each time and works under high load (cd linux-3.2.8; make -j16). I've also ran memtest86+ and it did not find any errors. What concerns me more is that Grub sometimes takes a long time to load the images and/or fails to load itself completely. The error is consistent and is probablistic: that is, each time I boot I have a certain chance to fail. Actually, I have a slight suspiction on the cause of the failure. Look at the cabling: What kind of engineer does it this way? Nah. Even 1Gbps Ethernet hardly tolerates cables bent over a small angle, and there you have 6Gbps SATA. How cound I determine and fix the cause of errors and/or switch the link to 3Gbps mode permanently?

  I've googled this and could'nt find anything new and useful for Apple's new OS SnowLeopard. I wonder if this is my mistake or I do need to do something? this is what I did: Downloaded from mysql site: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.1.html#macosx-dmg I choose : Mac OS X 10.5 (x86_64) I run all the packages and installed all of them. So now I certainly have mysql in /usr/local/mysql/ But when trying to start it from preferences panel, it is always STOPPED. When I try to do (in the terminal): /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql I got : -bash: /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql: Bad CPU type in executable What is wrong here? Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks

• Problem making ant compile my classes present in different Eclipse projects into single destination

  I have close to about 20 projects in my Eclipse workspace. They are interdependent. Now I want to build all of them in a single war file. The thing is eclipse does it nicely... if I create a Dynamic Web Project and link sources of all the 20 projects. But I want to automate the entire process and want to be able to run a script (ant maybe..) and deploy a war in my app server. My approach: I started with a simple approach. I tried to sequentially build each project (javac task) with destination directory as web-inf of my war. But it is giving me weird errors like : package " ** " not found,when it shows the same all the required classes in classpath (I used verbose) Do you think, a continous integration engine will be better for my case (20 projects..) I saw Team City, but didnt get it the first time...

• DB2 load partitioned data in parallel

  I have a 10-node DB2 9.5 database, with raw data on each machine (ie node1:/scratch/data/dataset.1 node2:/scratch/data/dataset.2 ... node10:/scratch/data/dataset.10 There is no shared NFS mount - none of my machines could handle all of the datasets combined. each line of a dataset file is a long string of text, column delimited. The first column is the key. I don't know the hash function that DB2 will use, so dataset is not pre-partitioned. Short of renaming all of my files, is there any way to get DB2 to load them all in parallel? I'm trying to do something like load from '/scratch/data/dataset' of del modified by coldel| fastparse messages /dev/null replace into TESTDB.data_table part_file_location '/scratch/data'; but I have no idea how to suggest to db2 that it should look for dataset.1 on the first node, etc.

• Can .NET load and parse a properties file equivalent to Java Properties class?

  Is there an easy way in C# to read a properties file that has each property on a separate line followed by an equals sign and the value, such as the following: ServerName=prod-srv1 Port=8888 CustomProperty=Any value In Java, the Properties class handles this parsing easily: Properties myProperties=new Properties(); FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream (new File("CustomProps.properties")); myProperties.load(fis); System.out.println(myProperties.getProperty("ServerName")); System.out.println(myProperties.getProperty("CustomProperty")); I can easily load the file in C# and parse each line, but is there a built in way to easily get a property without having to parse out the key name and equals sign myself? The C# information I have found seems to always favor XML, but this is an existing file that I don't control and I would prefer to keep it in the existing format as it will require more time to get another team to change it to XML than parsing the existing file.

• Finding out if an IP address is static or dynamic?

  I run a large bulletin board and I get spammers every now and again. My moderation team does a good job filtering them out but every time I IP ban them they seem to come back (I'm pretty sure it's the same person on some occasions, as the post patterns are exactly the same as are the usernames) but I'm afraid to ban them by IP address every time. If they are on a dynamic IP address, I could be banning innocent users later down the line when they try to get to my forum through SERPs, but if I ban only via static IPs I know that I'm only banning that one person. So, is there a way to properly determine if an IP address is static or dynamic? Thanks.

• Auto deployment of PHP applications

  My team currently has a development web/database server and a live deployment web server and a live database server. We use SVN with the repository stored on the development server but the problem is our deployment process. Currently when we need to deploy an update to the live application we simply use SFTP to transfer from the repository to the live web server and then amend the database on the live server to reflect the development database. This is a really slow process as we also minify all javascript and CSS files. I have used Capistrano for Ruby and Cruise Control for java but I have never used anything for PHP. I'd rather not have to build our own if something already existed. Does anyone know of anything?

• What are the "cool" use cases for SharePoint?

  I went to the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 launch event in Minneapolis yesterday and was slightly surprised by how much they were trotting out SharePoint and improved SharePoint development in Visual Studio 2010. SharePoint is something I've largely ignored over the years as a web developer and solution architect on a small development team. I was always under the impression that SharePoint was used mostly for intranets in large corporations, and that if you were developing for SharePoint, it meant that a corporate decision had been made to use it and you as a developer probably had few (if any) options. I realize this assumption is probably incorrect. So, what are the "cool" uses for SharePoint? What unique business problems have you solved using it? What could make a developer excited to be working on something for SharePoint?

• mysql birthday reminder, leap year

  Hi, I'm trying to sort out a result set that gives the 5 closest users sorted by upcoming birthday. This works perfectly until leap years comes into play. For example: May 15th - 96 days left May 15th - 97 days left The top result is a birth at 1987 and the lower is from 1988. u_birth is stored as yyyy-mm-dd. Is there a simple way to sort this problem without having to rewrite the entire query? This question is related to php programming but not a programming question.I have a young team of php (LAMP + javascript) programmers.I want them to learn better coding and keep themselves updated with the latest advancements in web domain. I was thinking if there was any web site which send daily emails about php questions / problems/ solutions to common problems/ tips which will practically help the people to spend 10-15 minutes daily and enjoy the learning.This will also kind of automate the habit of self learning on daily basis. There are lots of PHP forums and php tutorials website, I tried to google but I did not find any website which does what I am looking for.
