  • Custom resolution - Windows 7 - no drivers

    - by Vytautas Butkus
I'm having some problems with my VGA card. When I enable my VGA drivers and boot windows up they crash and I get message that the problem occured with atimdag.sys drivers or smth like that. I'm gettin BSOD all the time, unless I go to control panel and I disable drivers manually. I can live with disabled drivers just fine(I'm already used to it in quite some time) but the annoying problem is my display resolution. I can not set my res to anything higher than 1024x768. I was wondering if it's possible to change resolution to my native displays resolution without drivers? I've been trying to find something that would work w/o drivers, but with no luck(I've found many of solutions how to do it with working drivers, but as you know I can not enable my drivers). So please, maybe someone could help me and tell me how to set custom resolution?

  • UnicodeEncodeError when uploading files in Django admin

    - by Samuel Linde
Note: I asked this question on StackOverflow, but I realize this might be a more proper place to ask this kind of question. I'm trying to upload a file called 'Testaråäö.txt' via the Django admin app. I'm running Django 1.3.1 with Gunicorn 0.13.4 and Nginx 0.7.6.7 on a Debian 6 server. Database is PostgreSQL 8.4.9. Other Unicode data is saved to the database with no problem, so I guess the problem must be with the filesystem somehow. I've set http { charset utf-8; } in my nginx.conf. LC_ALL and LANG is set to 'sv_SE.UTF-8'. Running 'locale' verifies this. I even tried setting LC_ALL and LANG in my nginx init script just to make sure locale is set properly. Here's the traceback: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/handlers/base.py", line 111, in get_response response = callback(request, *callback_args, **callback_kwargs) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/contrib/admin/options.py", line 307, in wrapper return self.admin_site.admin_view(view)(*args, **kwargs) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/utils/decorators.py", line 93, in _wrapped_view response = view_func(request, *args, **kwargs) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/views/decorators/cache.py", line 79, in _wrapped_view_func response = view_func(request, *args, **kwargs) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/contrib/admin/sites.py", line 197, in inner return view(request, *args, **kwargs) File "/srv/django/letebo/app/cms/admin.py", line 81, in change_view return super(PageAdmin, self).change_view(request, obj_id) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/utils/decorators.py", line 28, in _wrapper return bound_func(*args, **kwargs) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/utils/decorators.py", line 93, in _wrapped_view response = view_func(request, *args, **kwargs) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/utils/decorators.py", line 24, in bound_func return func(self, *args2, **kwargs2) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/transaction.py", line 217, in inner res = func(*args, **kwargs) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/contrib/admin/options.py", line 985, in change_view self.save_formset(request, form, formset, change=True) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/contrib/admin/options.py", line 677, in save_formset formset.save() File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/forms/models.py", line 482, in save return self.save_existing_objects(commit) + self.save_new_objects(commit) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/forms/models.py", line 613, in save_new_objects self.new_objects.append(self.save_new(form, commit=commit)) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/forms/models.py", line 717, in save_new obj.save() File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/base.py", line 460, in save self.save_base(using=using, force_insert=force_insert, force_update=force_update) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/base.py", line 504, in save_base self.save_base(cls=parent, origin=org, using=using) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/base.py", line 543, in save_base for f in meta.local_fields if not isinstance(f, AutoField)] File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/fields/files.py", line 255, in pre_save file.save(file.name, file, save=False) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/fields/files.py", line 92, in save self.name = self.storage.save(name, content) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/files/storage.py", line 48, in save name = self.get_available_name(name) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/files/storage.py", line 74, in get_available_name while self.exists(name): File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/files/storage.py", line 218, in exists return os.path.exists(self.path(name)) File "/srv/.virtualenvs/letebo/lib/python2.6/genericpath.py", line 18, in exists st = os.stat(path) UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode characters in position 52-54: ordinal not in range(128) I tried running Gunicorn with debugging turned on, and the file uploads without any problem at all. • Pure-FTPd: Which IP Address To Use For Login?

    - by mschooler93
I am trying to connect to my VirtualBox LAMP Server with FileZilla, and it's not working. I have a static IP set, a FTP user set (with FTPd), and can connect successfully with ftp localhost, but not with Filezilla with the same credentials. I suspect this is because I am using the wrong IP address in the Host box. so is there a command I can use to display the IP address used to connect to my FTP? BTW, error code given in FileZilla is: Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Response: 425 Sorry, invalid address given Error: Could not connect to server

  • VPN authentication and MAC addresses

    - by zakk
I have to set up a VPN (various clients connecting to a web service on a server, which is also the VPN server) and I want to make sure that no user will share his/her credentials with third parties. I know that this problem is not solvable completely, but I'd want to set up some additional security checks... Some idea I have: 1) An additional check on MAC address, but... are MAC addresses preserved thru VPN? 2) Some kind of extra identification of the client (User Agent, open ports, I want to make sure that is the very same client I authorized). 3) I would like to avoid commercial solutions like a security token... I realize it would be the perfect solution, but it will be to expensive, I suppose... Do you feel that these options are viable? Do you have any other ideas? Thanks in advance for your replies!

  • Changing the cell range of conditional formatting in LibreOffice Calc

    - by Simon Lundberg
Is there any way of changing the range of conditional formatting in LibreOffice Calc (version 3.6)? I have a set applied already to a range of cells, but there is no obvious way of changing which cells a given set of conditional formatting is applied to. I either have to copy and paste the formatting, which results in multiple entries in the conditional formatting (which makes it difficult to manage), or delete the entire thing and create a new one every single time I want to change the range of cells. Is there a better way? link to screenshot

  • Vim: :silent with makeprg

    - by ash
I use pylint on .py files for :make in my .vimrc, although any program, pylint or otherwise, applies to this problem. set makeprg=pylint\ --reports=n\ --output-format=parseable\ % When I run :make, I inevitably get the annoying Press ENTER or type command to continue prompt. I know this can be disabled with :silent, but I can't prepend it to the makeprg variable like this, because it throws an error: set makeprg=:silent "pylint\ --reports=n\ --output-format=parseable\ %" If I try to have my own "Silent make command," command Smake silent make The screen goes black after calling it. How would I do it?

  • Setting alias for DynDNS domain

    - by metalball
Hey all, I've created DynDNS domain for testing my local sites, and i'm having trouble with pointing to root domain. From my registrar (GoDaddy) I've created a CNAME for www to point my example.dyndns.com so going to url www.example.com I'm reaching my site. But if I'm going to example.com I'm reaching to the IP of the A record. I can't set the IP for the A record to be my IP because I have dynamic IP, and it changes constatly, and I can't point the A record to domain, only IP. When trying to create CNAME record @ to point example.dyndns.com I'm getting error "A record of a different type exists for the hostname @, could not create CNAME" The only record using the '@' host are NS record, which I can't delete, and when tried to set another NS record with @ point to example.dyndns.com, I've lost connection to my site :) So what can I do to get example.com url reach my site? Thanx!

  • Changing Windows public folder in batch script.

    - by Angus
I've installed Steam on an external hard drive so I can play games on different computers by just moving the drive around. Since save games are often saved in My Documents or AppData, but I want them to move with the external hard drive, I wrote a batch file that sets environment variables before starting steam. setocal set USERPROFILE=%EXTERNAL_LETTER%\Profile\Me set APPDATA=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming ... start %TARGETAPP% endlocal I'm not sure if this is the right way to do this on Windows, but it seems to work. However, one game saves its games in the Shared Documents folder. I've tried setting %PUBLIC% and %ALLUSERSPROFILE% but that does not seem to affect where the game looks. Is it possible to make this one program use a different Shared Documents folder, either by environment variables or some other means? The change in Shared Documents should only affect the one program, I do not want it to be a permanent or system wide change to Windows.

  • TextMate suddenly highlighting all text dark red...?

    - by AP257
I'm using TextMate on Snow Leopard, don't know much about how it works. After I hit an unknown keyboard shortcut, it suddenly decided to highlight almost all text in my Python files dark red - making all my Python virtually unreadable! I must have accidentally pressed a shortcut - but I've no idea what I did or how to turn it off, and can't find any relevant help in the manual or form. Even just 'turn off all highlighting' would do. Anyone know how to turn this highlighting off? Bit desperate! UPDATE: Figured it out. There's a tiny, tiny dropdown list at the very bottom of every TextMate editing window where you can set the language, so TextMate can highlight invalid syntax - I'd accidentally clicked on it and set the language to something other than Python. Will leave the question up though in case others have the same problem.

  • How to change Skype language in MacBook Pro running Mac OS X version 10.6.8?

    - by Zuul
I am unable to change the Skype language from English to Portuguese in MacBook Pro running Mac OS X version 10.6.8. What I have done: I've downloaded the Portuguese version of Skype; I have under OSX ? System Preference ? Language & Text the language and country set to Portugal; I have my Skype account country and language set to Portugal, Portuguese. Still the Skype application is using English and AFAIK no menu exists to change the application language within the application itself. I was under the impression that Skype would collect the language from my system preferences as to properly present the menus. How can I change the language to Portuguese then?

  • What are some of the best wireless routers for a price-conscious home power-user?

    - by Alain
I'm extremely dissatisfied with the 'popular' choice for routers in homes and small offices. They are expensive (upwards of 60$), lack a great deal of useful configuration options, and seem to need to be restarted quite often. (Linksys comes to mind). I've been on the market for a good router lately, and slowly collecting a set of requirements I feel good routers should meet. Maximum number of TCP/IP connections. - This isn't something I see any routers advertise, but in terms of supporting torrent applications, I've been screwed by routers that support less than 20 here. From what I understand a fairly standard number is 200, but there are not so expensive routers that support thousands. Router configuration menu - Most have standard menu's that let you set up basic things like your wireless network encryption settings, uPnP, and maybe even DMZ (demilitarized zones). An absolute requirement for me, however, are routers with good enough firmware to support: Explicit Port forwarding Assigning static local ips to specific mac addresses, or at least Port forwarding by MAC address Port, IP and MAC filtering Dynamic DNS service for home users who want to set up a server but have a dynamic IP Traffic shaping (ideally) - giving priority to packets from certain machines or over certain ports. Strong wireless signal - If getting a reliable signal requires me to be so close to the router that I can connect an Ethernet cable, it's not good enough. As many Ethernet ports as possible. - Because I want to be able to switch from console gaming to PC gaming without visiting my router. So far, the best thing I've stumbled upon (in the bargain bin at staples) was a 20$ retail plus router. It was meant to be the cheapest alternative until I could find something better to purchase online, but I was actually blown away by the firmware capabilities. It supports defining reserved bandwidth for certain network traffic, dynamic DNS, reserving local IPs for specific MAC addresses, etc. At 2 am when my roommate is killing our Internet with their torrents, I can limit their bandwidth without outright blacklisting them. I have, however, met serious limitations when it comes to network traffic between local machines. It claims a 300Mbps connection, but I have trouble streaming videos from my PC to my console or other laptops wirelessly. It has a meltdown and needs to be reset once in a while (no more than a couple times a month), and it's got a 200 connection limit. There 4 Ethernet ports in the back but I'm pretty sure the first doesn't work. So some great answers to this question would be: Any metrics you use to compare routers, and requirements you have for new candidates. The best routers you've found for supporting home servers, file management systems, high volume torrent traffic, good price/feature ratio, etc. Good configuration advice (aside from 'use Ethernet whenever possible') Thanks for your feedback and experiences!

  • ReadyNAS issue with Google Apps?

    - by Jauder Ho
The power went out (again) in my house today so I decided to set up some alerting. Since I have a ReadyNAS and the latest version of Raidinator seems to have SMTP TLS support, I figured I would try setting things up to email to a domain I have hosted on Google Apps. At this point, I have everything working IF I use a Gmail account but as soon as I switch to a Google Apps email address, it stops working and complains with smtpstatus=535 smtpmsg='535-5.7.1 Username and Password not accepted. Learn more at \n535 5.7.1 http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=14257 30sm16076226wfd.23' errormsg='authentication failed (GNU SASL, method PLAIN)' exitcode=EX_NOPERM I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this. Google's extremely aggressive captcha does not help but I am able to log in now without a captcha from a browser so I'm open to any ideas why the simple switch of a user/password combo that is supposed to work does not. I'm also attaching my config so that others can see how to set things up.

  • LVS TCP connection timeouts - lingering connections

    - by Jon Topper
I'm using keepalived to load-balance connections between a number of TCP servers. I don't expect it matters, but the service in this case is rabbitmq. I'm using NAT type balancing with weighted round-robin. A client connects to the server thus: [client]-----------[lvs]------------[real server] a b If a client connects to the LVS and remains idle, sending nothing on the socket, this eventually times out, according to timeouts set using ipvsadm --set. At this point, the connection marked 'a' above correctly disappears from the output of netstat -anp on the client, and from the output of ipvsadm -L -n -c on the lvs box. Connection 'b', however, remains ESTABLISHED according to netstat -anp on the real server box. Why is this? Can I force lvs to properly reset the connection to the real server?

  • Make Google chrome with specific user profile as default browser

    - by Kaushik Gopal
Is it possible to set Google chrome with a custom user profile as the default browser? When I set google chrome as the default browser, it picks the "default" user profile as against the custom one I have setup. I tried setting google chrome as default browser after opening it from that particular user profile, but it doesn't seem to have an effect. I googled around but could only find another poor soul like myself who asked a similar question here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=69f0a6e776ceab1c&hl=en There weren't any responses to that question. Cheers.

  • Using QoS to prioritize IP addresses

    - by Tristan
I have a Western Digital N900 router. I was hoping I'd be able to throttle users based on their MAC address with it, which isn't possible sadly. Seems simple in principle though, duh. The battle against bandwidth hogging roomates rages on. Could I just set the local IP range to their IP, and then set the Local port range to every single port in existence. Then prioritize their IP to lower than mine? Will this work? What are all the ports? And what's the difference between Local and Remote IPs or Ports? Name: Roomate, Priority: Low, Protocol: TCP or UDP ??, Local IP Range: .101 to .101, Local Port Range: 0 to infinity, Remote IP Range: ? to ?, Remote Port Range: ? to ?

  • please explain my fio results - is O_SYNC|O_DIRECT misbehaving on linux?

    - by Zoltan
I'm going mad over figuring out what the problem could be with one of our storage boxes. With a simple fio script I'm testing random writes using bs=1M and direct=1. The SSD is a Samsung 840pro attached to an LSI HBA (3Gbit/s ports). This is the result I'm getting under FreeBSD 9.1: WRITE: io=13169MB, aggrb=224743KB/s, minb=224743KB/s, maxb=224743KB/s, mint=60002msec, maxt=60002msec This is regardless of sync being set to 0 or 1. On linux, this is the result with sync=0: WRITE: io=14828MB, aggrb=253060KB/s, minb=253060KB/s, maxb=253060KB/s, mint=60001msec, maxt=60001msec and with sync=1: WRITE: io=6360.0MB, aggrb=108542KB/s, minb=108542KB/s, maxb=108542KB/s, mint=60001msec, maxt=60001msec My understanding is that since I'm operating on the raw block device, O_SYNC should not make any difference - there's no filesystem, any barrier, anything between the writes and the drive itself. Especially with O_DIRECT|O_SYNC set. Any ideas? For reference, here's the fio script I'm testing with: [global] bs=1M ioengine=sync iodepth=4 size=16g direct=1 runtime=60 filename=/dev/sdh sync=1 [rand-write] rw=randwrite stonewall

  • International Dvorak keyboard doesn't trigger hot-keys

    - by akurtser
Hi, I just configured a Hebrew-Dvorak keyboard with Keyboard Layout Manager. What this means is that when I hold Shift+any key, the input is the capital English letter. It works just fine, however, hot-keys that involves the Ctrl key aren't being triggered when the input language is set to Hebrew (i.e Ctrl+L in FF which should set the focus on the URL bar) If however I hit the matching Qwerty key (input lang=Hebrew) I get the desirable result (i.e the URL bar get focused). The only thing I can think of is completely removing the US-Qwerty layout, but I don't know how this can be achieved, and besides, it may not solve the problem. Thanks, Almog.

So does mean that Dedicated IP would be set to only one of them ? If I set SSL for www then if a user goes to a URL manually without the www it would show invalid certificate - how do I bypass this ? mod_rewrite in htaccess ? IF I need SSL for a subdomain, thats another SSL Certificate & Dedicated IP to purchase ?

  • Bootstrap a debian build environment and build source packages with no root privileges

    - by Erwan Queffélec
On debian squeeze, I am trying to do the following : fetch sources package from the wheezy source repository bootstrap a squeeze chroot for several architectures build the packages for several architectures (i386, amd64 + all and any) I want both the fetching, bootstrapping and build operation to be scriptable, repeatable, and run as a normal user. For the environment setup, I want to make as little use of the root account as possible (install the necessary dependencies, and maybe some visudo stuff). If possible I would like to avoid using a VM (pbuilder with user mode linux) So far I have tried several things with pbuilder (require root), debootstrap (require root) with little success. Here is an example script of what I want to do (does not work): #/bin/bash set -e set -x this=`readlink -f $0` this_dir=`dirname $this` archs='i386 amd64 any all' pushd $this_dir/src # I actually want the following line to work with a repo that # is not in /etc/apt/sources.list but that is another question apt-get source cyrus-imapd-2.4 popd for arch in $archs do build_dir=$this_dir/build/$arch/ pbuilder --create --configfile $build_dir/pbuilderrc --buildresult $build_dir/ pbuilder --build --configfile $build_dir/pbuilderrc --buildresult \ $build_dir/ $this_dir/src/*.dsc # of course I want to use the .dput.cf in /home/myuser/ # and not in /root/ dput $build_dir/$arch/*.changes done

  • Windows AD, bulk user creation, homedrv creation via commandline

    - by Neil
I am Bulk creating AD users from the commandline (dsadd) and whilst doing so am setting the homedir and homedrv to a DFS location. I observe when I create the user with all these settings via the GUI (dsa.msc) that the homedrv gets created on the DFS share with all the permissions set correctly. But when using dsadd, the folder is not created. How can I replicate this GUI behaviour via the commandline when creating the user? I don't really want to rely on logon scripts to set it up. Do I have to use mkdir and cacls and something else to give the user Ownership? Or maybe I am missing something easy. Any help much appreciated!

  • Spoofing domains - using one domain to look at another without frame redirect

    - by hfidgen
Hiya, In Plesk 9.2.2 does anyone know how the following can be achieved? I've got domain1.co.uk registered in plesk, but the domain has not been set up with any nameservers or A records, so it is unreachable from the web. However, I need to test it while we get the domain1.co.uk nameservers etc sorted over the next week or so. SO, i've got sparedomain.co.uk registered, with the nameservers and A records pointing to the server, and sure enough it displays the default plesk "theres no website here yet page" . bingo. Now, how can I set up sparedomain.co.uk on my plesk server, so it displays all the data held on the plesk account for domain1.co.uk? Frame forwarding doesnt work - because you get errors saying "domain1.co.uk cannot be found" in your browser - i need a server solution to spoof it all. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

  • Asterisk, IAXModem & Hylafax how-tos?

    - by Brian Postow
I'm trying to set up Asterisk and IAXModem to send faxes via T38 (Yes, I know I'm swatting a fly with a Buick...) However, since I'm trying to do something so small with a product so large, I'm having trouble finding samples or how-tos that show me how to set this up. I've got all three installed, and I THINK I have my IAXModem config correct. I'm pretty sure that I have Hylafax correct (I've used it with T38Modem) so, I need to know which of the Asterisk samples I need to use, and how to use them. I think I want to use some combination of iax.conf, iaxprov.conf, sip.conf and sip_notify.conf. But I'm not sure where to put them, or what to change... I'm sure that the answer is RTFM, but I'm not sure WHICH M, or where in it to R... thanks.
