  I have recently started using Ubuntu 13.04. The other day I found the Firefox browser blocked by malware. The website was from Europol and said that it had blocked the browser and that 'everything' had been encrypted. have uninstalled Firefox. I can still access files but I was wondering how I can eradicate this malware from my laptop. I have tried to install ClamAV, it did not work but the 2 do not have to be related.

  The reason why I've excluded utorrent is because utorrent server doesn't appear to work for me with the details of such difficulties available in the question How do I install uTorrent?. Running through wine is an annoying solution to the problem as whenever I run it that way I have to manually relocate torrent-ed files as they are undiscoverable in the location utorrent saves it by default. I'd appreciate a decently-sized compare and contrast answer.

  I am going to dual-boot install Ubuntu1 10.04 on my laptop with Windows 7. I was wondering what filesystem types (such as ext2, ext3, ext4, ReiserFS and whatever might come into mind) are recommended for various possible partitions (such as /, home, /boot, swap, and others that might come into mind)and why? if ext4 is now stable enough for use for partitions in Ubuntu and Shared partition between Windows and Ubuntu? what journaling Options (writeback, ordered and journal) are recommended for each partition's filesystem? • Downloading 12.04 Beta today - Does it now have the daily distro updates?

My question is do I use the original image I downloaded and apply the daily distro updates through Update manager OR do a download a new image (because it now has the distro updates included). • How to fix 'grub error file not found' when installing 12.04?

  i'm trying to install Ubuntu. I don't know if it is important, but i'm trying to install it on external HDD. In the end i have external bootable HDD which only displays: error: file not found grub recovery> From the beginning: I've downloaded ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso I've used LiLi USB Creator (LinuxLive) to create bootable pendrive from that image I've bootet from it, it works I've clicked "Try ubuntu", it works too. I've used GParted to look over drivers (disks) My primary embedded disk is seen as /dev/sda My attached external disk as /dev/sdb My PenDrive as /dev/sdc I've created partitions on /dev/sdb Fist partition for system (over 200GiB) Second was there already (it's xsf, and i don't want to touch it :P) Third is extended partition, with 1 locital partiton (10GiB) for swap I've started installation i've choose "somethin else" in ... i belive secound screeb then is selected /dev/sdb as boot disk for first partiton of /dev/sdb i set i want ext3 file system, i've check "formattin" checkbox, and mount path set to "/" firs logical partiton set as swap partition After installation finished, i restarted my computer. When i boot from my primary disc it's work ok, my previous operating system - vista - works ok. When i set my BIOS to boot from my external disc, i only get that message: error: file not found grub recovery> I've try to reinstall it, but didn't help... In desperation, i've try to read a bit about that "grub recovery" command-line and experiment a bit... I'm not sure if this has had any point, or if it give you some information (notice, that i don't know what i'm doing :P ) when i've type command: insmod (hd1,1)/boot/grub/linux.mod i've get message: unknown filesystem the same with: insmod (hd1,msdos1)/boot/grub/linux.mod the same with: insmod ext3 but i get no message after command: insmod ext2 ... notice that i really don't know what this command exactly do, but than i thought that maybe if i reinstall ubuntu with ext2 filesystem, it will work. I've done that, but symptoms are the same. I've go back to that Live version of ubuntu, filesystem and basics directories seems to be present on /dev/sdb1 ... i'm completely unfamiliar with GRUB. I'm also don't know which wersion of GRUB it is, i hope there is only one version on ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso Any help? Thax

  I have install Sun Java 6 on an Ubuntu server and set an environment variable in the default profile as per the instructions at http://www.edugate.ie/workshop-guides/shibboleth-2-identity-provider-installation-linux-debian-or-ubuntu I then try to run an installer for a Java servlet - but when I run it as myself, it cannot create the required directory in /opt. When I run it as sudo, I am told that JAVA_HOME is not correct and it doesn't even start the installer - shouldn't this be coming from /etc/profile like it is for my normal user?

  Many people like to use Java ME SDK with IDEs. We provided instructions on how to integrate the SDK with NetBeans through the download page, and also through the release note, however, let me explain it here once again with some screen shots. 1. Download Java ME SDK and NetBeans plugin from here. 2. Install Java ME SDK first. You will have the emulator and the runtime on your machine. Also please unarchive the NetBeans plugin somewhere. 3. Launch NetBeans. 4. Go to "Tools" - "Plugins". 5. Check out the "Installed" tab. Check "Show details". If you see the previous version of Java ME SDK Tools installed already. Check those to uninstall them. 6. Go to "Settings" tab. 7. Click "Add", and provide the location of NetBeans plugin. In my case, it is "file:/C:/Users/sungcho/Downloads/nb-me-sdk-plugins-uc/updates.xml". Don't forget to add "updates.xml" at the end. 8. Click "Okay" 9. Click "Available Plugins" tab. 10. If you scroll down, you will see three Java ME SDK Tools. Check "Java ME SDK Tools" plugin. Also check others as you desire. 11. Follow the instruction and install them. 12. Restart NetBeans 13. That is it. Done. Now you will see Oracle Java ME SDK 3.2 in your Java Platform list.

• Desktop installation fails on Dell Precision T1600 with Nvidia Quadro card?

  I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop on a Dell Precision T1600, however, I get a blank screen with only a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner (this is after the grey screen with the small Ubuntu logo at the bottom). If I remove the Nvidia Quadro 2000 card and plug a monitor into the built-in VGA port, then the installation works fine. Also, I've tried an Nvidia Quadro 2000D by PNY, but I get the same problem. Has anyone installed Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop on a Dell Precision workstation?

• Authenticate user that has no password?

  I've set up my user account so that no password is required to login and I need to install some updates. However when prompted for the password, it says authentication failed if I leave the box blank. I don't have a password, how am I supposed to authenticate? EDIT I tried the method in Reset lost administrative(root) password but it came out with an error: Authentication token manipulation error password unchanged. What does this mean?

  Another Friday has arrived and it’s time to screw off on company time. Today we take a look at a unique game Add-on for Firefox called Destroy the Web. Destroy the Web Once you install the Add-on and restart Firefox, you’ll see the Destroy the Web icon on the toolbar. Click on it to destroy whatever webpage you’re on.   The game starts up and gives you a 3 second countdown… Now move the target over different elements of the page to destroy them. You have 30 seconds to destroy the site contents. If you are angry at a particular company or the one you work for, this can give you some fun stress relief by destroying it’s website. After you’ve destroyed as much of the page as possible, you’re given a score. You get different amounts of points for destroying certain elements on the page. Basically destroy as much as possible to get the most points. You can submit your score and check out some of the scoreboard leaders as well.  There are some cool sound effects and arcade sounding background music, so make sure to turn the volume down while playing. Or you can go into the Add-on options and disable it. If you want a unique way to let off some steam before the weekend starts, this is a fun way of doing it. • Regular Expression Transformation

  The regular expression transformation exposes the power of regular expression matching within the pipeline. One or more columns can be selected, and for each column an individual expression can be applied. The way multiple columns are handled can be set on the options page. The AND option means all columns must match, whilst the OR option means only one column has to match. If rows pass their tests then rows are passed down the successful match output. Rows that fail are directed down the alternate output. This transformation is ideal for validating data through the use of regular expressions. You can enter any expression you like, or select a pre-configured expression within the editor. You can expand the list of pre-configured expressions yourself. These are stored in a Xml file, %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\nnn\DTS\PipelineComponents\RegExTransform.xml, where nnn represents the folder version, 90 for 2005, 100 for 2008 and 110 for 2012. If you want to use regular expressions to manipulate data, rather than just validating it, try the RegexClean Transformation. The component is provided as an MSI file, however for 2005/200 you will have to add the transformation to the Visual Studio toolbox by hand. This process has been described in detail in the related FAQ entry for How do I install a task or transform component?, just select Regular Expression Transformation in the Choose Toolbox Items window. • Samsung Color Laser printer CLP-365W: all printout condensed into left half?

  After installing the Samsung Color Laser Printer CLP-365W in 12.04, the printout is condensed into the left half of the A4 page (regardless whether 'fit to page' on or off). This happens both with the automatically recognised Ubuntu driver and the 'Unified Linux driver' from the Samsung website.
