• Printing the "source" class in a log statement with a log4j wrapper

- by Dur4ndal
My application has a homebrew logging class that I'm migrating to using log4j under the covers. However, since I'm using the homebrew class to pass the rest of the application's logging statements to log4j, the output statements are logged as coming from the wrapper class instead of the source class. Is there a way to ensure that the "correct" source is being shown besides creating new org.apache.log4j.Logger instances for every log statement? I've also tried using the Logger.log(String callerFQCN, Priority level, Object message, Throwable t) method, but it doesnt seem to be working, for example: public class Logger2 { public static org.apache.log4j.Logger log4JLogger = org.apache.log4j.Logger.getLogger(Logger2.class); public static void warning(Object source, String message) { log(source, message, Level.WARN, null) } private static void log(Object source, String message, Level level, Throwable t) { String className = source.getClass().getName(); System.out.println("Logging class should be " + className); log4JLogger.log(className, loggingLevel, message, t); } } When called by: public void testWarning() { Logger2.warning(new Integer(3), "This should warn"); } Prints: Logging class should be java.lang.Integer 2010-05-25 10:49:57,152 WARN test.Logger2 - This should warn

• HiddenField.Value is an empty string upon postback inside my custom control

- by Matthew Cox
I have a custom control that has a hidden field. Upon postback I want to obtain the value stored in it, but it's always an empty string. any thoughts? I am performing client-side manipulation of the hidden field values and have verified in firebug that the fields are correct before issue a post back Here is the setup: public class DualListPanel : SWebControl, INamingContainer { protected IList<DlpItem> UnassignedList { get; set; } protected IList<DlpItem> AssignedList { get; set; } private HiddenField assignedItemsField, unassignedItemsField; public DualListPanel() { CssClass = "DualListPanel"; EnableViewState = true; } #region ViewState protected override void LoadViewState(object savedState) { var state = savedState as object[]; UnassignedList = state[0] as List<DlpItem>; AssignedList = state[1] as List<DlpItem>; base.LoadViewState(state[2]); } protected override object SaveViewState() { object[] state = new object[3]; state[0] = UnassignedList; state[1] = AssignedList; state[2] = base.SaveViewState(); return state; } #endregion #region WebControl Overrides protected override void CreateChildControls() { assignedItemsField = new HiddenField(); assignedItemsField.ID = "HiddenAssignedItems"; assignedItemsField.EnableViewState = true; unassignedItemsField = new HiddenField(); unassignedItemsField.ID = "HiddenUnassignedItems"; unassignedItemsField.EnableViewState = true; Controls.Add(assignedItemsField); Controls.Add(unassignedItemsField); base.CreateChildControls(); } #endregion #region Item Lists Retrieval public string GetCommaDelimUnassignedItems() { return unassignedItemsField.Value; } public string GetCommaDelimAssignedItems() { return assignedItemsField.Value; } #endregion }

• MySQL + Joomla + remote c# access

- by Jimmy
Hello, I work on a Joomla web site, installed on a MySQL database and running on IIS7. It's all working fine. I now need to add functionality that lets (Joomla-)registered users change some configuration data. Though I haven't done this yet, it looks straightforward enough to do with Joomla. The data is private so all external access will be done through HTTPS. I also need an existing c# program, running on another machine, to read that configuration data. Sure enough, this data access needs to be as fast as possible. The data will be small (and filtered by query), but the latency should be kept to a minimum. A short-term, client-side cache (less than a minute, in case a user updates his configuration data) seems like a good idea. I have done practically zero database/asp programming so far, so what's the best way of doing that last step? Should the c# program access the database 'directly' (using what? LINQ?) or setup some sort of Facade (SOAP?) service? If a service should be used, should it be done through Joomla or with ASP on IIS? Thanks

• Why does the roll_out event fire in this code?

- by user339681
I have made this simple example to demonstrate some problems I'm having. <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute"> <mx:Canvas id="buttonCanvas" x="100" y="100" opaqueBackground="#000000" width="80%" height="300" creationComplete="init(event)"> <mx:Button x="5" y="5"/> <mx:Button x="5" y="50"/> </mx:Canvas> <mx:Script> private function init(event:Event):void{ buttonCanvas.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, function(event:Event):void{ buttonCanvas.opaqueBackground=(buttonCanvas.opaqueBackground==0)? 0x666666:0; }); } </mx:Script> </mx:Application> I don't understand the following: Why doesn't the percentage nor absolute dimensions affect the canvas? Why does the roll_out event fire when the mouse leaves a button (even when it is still inside the canvas). I'm going nuts trying to figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• (Android) Why won't invalidate() update my buttons immediately?

- by frustrated user
I have read several forums and examples on using invalidate() in order to update views immediately but I still do not understand why what I am doing will not work. The code below uses image buttons defined by "red", "blue", "green", and "yellow". I set a 1 second delay between each time I try and change a button's appearance. Please someone tell me what i'm doing wrong. private void showPattern() { if (correct == true) { for (int k = 0; k < temp_basket.length; k++) { if (temp_basket[k] == 0) { red.setPressed(true); red.invalidate(); final Handler handler = new Handler(); Timer t = new Timer(); t.schedule(new TimerTask() { public void run() { handler.post(new Runnable() { public void run() { red.setPressed(false); red.invalidate(); } }); } }, 1000); There are 3 more or these blocks after this one that are blue, green, and yellow.

• Playing FLV unexpectedly stops, but why?

- by Josamoto
I am trying to play an FLV video that is about 90Mb big, using the following snippet: private function playVideo(url:String):void { var customClient:Object = new Object(); customClient.onMetaData = metaDataHandler; var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection(); nc.connect(null); var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc); ns.client = customClient; ns.play(url); var myVideo:Video = new Video(); myVideo.attachNetStream(ns); addChild(myVideo); function metaDataHandler(infoObject:Object):void { myVideo.width = 640; myVideo.x = stage.stageWidth / 2 - 640 / 2; myVideo.height = 400; myVideo.y = 230; } } The video is not going to be streamed across the internet, in fact, the application will run locally and videos will also be loaded locally from disc. When starting my application, the video starts, but at random locations, playback completely freezes up, without any errors being thrown at all. Does anybody have any idea as to why this might happen?

• Java Generics Issue (w/ Spring)

- by drewzilla
I think I may be a victim of type erasure but thought I'd check with others here first. I have the requirement to do something like this: public interface FooFactory { public <T extends Bar> Foo<T> createFoo( Class<T> clazz ); } It is perfectly valid to write this code. However, I'm trying to implement this functionality using a Spring BeanFactory and I can't do it. What I'd like to do is this... public class FooFactoryImpl implements BeanFactoryAware { private BeanFactory beanFactory; public <T extends Bar> Foo<T> createFoo( Class<T> clazz ) { return beanFactory.getBean( ????????? ); } public void setBeanFactory( BeanFactory beanFactory ) { this.beanFactory = beanFactory; } } As you can see, I've put in ???????? where I'd like to retrieve a bean of type Foo<T>, where T extends Bar. However, it is not possible to derive a Class object of type Foo<T> and so I assume what I'm trying to do is impossible? Anyone else see a way round this or an alternative way of implementing what I'm trying to do? Thanks, Andrew

• Android: stop activity appearing when an app is reopened?

- by AP257
Hi there In Android, I have some code to check whether the user has GPS switched on, and launch the Settings for them to turn it on if they don't. It looks like this: private void buildAlertMessageNoGps() { final AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(this); builder .setMessage( "Your GPS seems to be disabled - you need it to get a location fix. Turn it on now?") .setCancelable(false).setPositiveButton("Yes", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick( @SuppressWarnings("unused") final DialogInterface dialog, @SuppressWarnings("unused") final int id) { Intent j = new Intent(); j.setAction("android.settings.LOCATION_SOURCE_SETTINGS"); startActivity(j); } }).setNegativeButton("No", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(final DialogInterface dialog, @SuppressWarnings("unused") final int id) { dialog.cancel(); } }); final AlertDialog alert = builder.create(); alert.show(); } However, I'm finding that if the user opens the Settings, turns GPS on, then carries on using the app as normal, there is an odd problem. Often, when the user reopens the app, the Settings are at the front. How can I set them so they don't keep reappearing? I wonder if I should be using the CLEAR_TOP flag or something similar... I've tried looking at the docs for the Activity flags but find them a bit confusing. Anyone know?

• How to read pair in freemarker

- by Lukasz Rys
Ok i'm having little trouble with reading pair. So I'm creating my pair private Pair<Integer, Integer> count(somethink) { int c1 = 2; int c2 = 4; return new Pair<Integer, Integer>(c1, c2); } And 'sending' it to ftl via java mv.addObject("counted", count(somethink)); I won't write everythink how it sends because I dont think it really matters with my issue. So i'm recieving it in "ftl". Then i was trying to 'read' it <#list counted?keys as key> <@spring.message "someMsg"/>(${key}/${counted[key]}) </#list> After then i'm getting error Expecting a string, date or number here, Expression x is instead a freemarker.ext.beans.SimpleMethodModel As i suppose you dont iterate pairs (or I'm wrong?) i know its pair that contains only one key and one value but still i have to do send it that way and I thought its goin be to similar to iterating through map, in java i would use pair.first() and pair.second() but it doesn't work in ftl (ye i know it shouldnt work). I also tried to cast it to String by using ?string but it didnt work too

• Persisting object changes from child form to parent form based on button press.

- by Shyran
I have created a form that is used for both adding and editing a custom object. Which mode the form takes is provided by an enum value passed from the calling code. I also pass in an object of the custom type. All of my controls at data bound to the specific properties of the custom object. When the form is in Add mode, this works great as when the controls are updated with data, the underlying object is as well. However, in Edit mode, I keep two variables of the custom object supplied by the calling code, the original, and a temporary one made through deep copying. The controls are then bound to the temporary copy, this makes it easy to discard the changes if the user clicks the Cancel button. What I want to know is how to persist those changes back to the original object if the user clicks the OK button, since there is now a disconnect because of the deep copying. I am trying to avoid implementing a internal property on the Add/Edit form if I can. Below is an example of my code: public AddEditCustomerDialog(Customer customer, DialogMode mode) { InitializeComponent(); InitializeCustomer(customer, mode); } private void InitializeCustomer(Customer customer, DialogMode mode) { this.customer = customer; if (mode == DialogMode.Edit) { this.Text = "Edit Customer"; this.tempCustomer = ObjectCopyHelper.DeepCopy(this.customer); this.customerListBindingSource.DataSource = this.tempCustomer; this.phoneListBindingSource.DataSource = this.tempCustomer.PhoneList; } else { this.customerListBindingSource.DataSource = this.customer; this.phoneListBindingSource.DataSource = this.customer.PhoneList; } }

• Read data from form

- by Superhuman
This is a strange question, I've never tried to do this before. I have a repetitive process requiring that I copy and paste data from text boxes in one program into another program for further processing. I'd like to automate this process using VB .NET. The application from which the data is gathered isn't mine, so I don't have ActiveX-like access to its controls. How would you write an application to gain access to a form from another application, to be able to find the controls on the form, and gather the values from them? Just experimenting, I've used the following code. This resulted in only the name of the form to which this code belongs. It didn't find the names of any other forms I have open, and I have a lot open to choose from. This is frustrating because it's only step one of what I'll need to do to make my life easier... Public Declare Function EnumWindows Lib "user32" (ByVal lpEnumFunc As CallBack, ByVal lParam As Integer) As Integer Public Delegate Function CallBack(ByVal hwnd As IntPtr, ByVal lParam As IntPtr) As Boolean Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim cb As New CallBack(AddressOf MyCallBack) EnumWindows(cb, 8) End Sub Public Function MyCallBack(ByVal hwnd As Long, ByVal lparam As Long) As Boolean Dim frm As System.Windows.Forms.Control frm = System.Windows.Forms.Form.FromHandle(hwnd) If frm Is Nothing Then Return True If frm.Text <> "" Then TextBox1.Text += frm.Text & ", " End If Return True End Function Does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks, SH

• Fluent NHibernate no data being returned

- by czuroski
Hello, I have been successfully using NHibernate, but now I am trying to move to Fluent NHibernate. I have created all of my mapping files and set up my session manager to use a Fluent Configuration. I then run my application and it runs successfully, but no data is returned. There are no errors or any indication that there is a problem, but nothing runs. when using NHibernate, if I don't set my hbm xml files as an embedded resource, this same thing happens. This makes me wonder what I have to set my Map classes to. Right now, they are just set to Compile, and they are compiled into the dll, which I can see by disassembling it. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what may be happening here? Thanks private ISessionFactory GetSessionFactory() { return Fluently.Configure() .Database( IfxOdbcConfiguration .Informix1000 .ConnectionString("Provider=Ifxoledbc.2;Password=mypass;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=myuser;Data Source=mysource") .Dialect<InformixDialect1000>() .ProxyFactoryFactory<ProxyFactoryFactory>() .Driver<OleDbDriver>() .ShowSql() ) .Mappings( m => m.FluentMappings .AddFromAssemblyOf<cmCase>() .AddFromAssemblyOf<attorney>() .AddFromAssemblyOf<creditor>() .AddFromAssemblyOf<party>() .AddFromAssemblyOf<person>() .AddFromAssemblyOf<sardbk>() .AddFromAssemblyOf<schedule>() //x => x.FluentMappings.AddFromAssembly(System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()) //.ExportTo("C:\\mappings") ) .BuildSessionFactory(); }

• Declaration of struct variables in other class when obtained by getters

- by liaK
Hi, I am using Qt 4.5 so do C++. I have a class like this class CClass1 { private: struct stModelDetails { QString name; QString code; ..... // only variables and no functions over here }; QList<stModelDetails> m_ModelDetailsList; public: QList<stModelDetails> getModelDetailsList(); ... }; In this I have functions that will populate the m_ModelDetailsList; I have another class say CClassStructureUsage, where I will call the getModelDetailsList() function. Now my need is that I have to traverse the QList and obtain the name, code from each of the stModelDetails. Now the problem is even the CClass1's header file is included it is not able to identify the type of stModelDetails in CClassStructureUsage. When I get the structure list by QList<stModelDetails> ModelList = obj->getModelInformationList(); it says stModelDetails : undeclared identifier. How I can able to fetch the values from the structure? Am I doing anything wrong over here?

• eclipse stuck at running program

- by user1434388
This is the picture after I end task the eclipse. My Android Program has no errors, and before this problem it was all fine. It happened when I added some code into my program. It gets stuck after I click the run button. This also happens when I run my handphone for debugging the program. Other programs are all working fine, only one is stuck. When I try to remove and import it again seem there is a classes.dex file which I cannot delete, I have to restart my computer for it to allow to delete and I have to force the program to close. I have searched at this website and they said keep open the emulator but it doesn't work for me. below is the connecting coding that i added. //check internet connection private boolean chkConnectionStatus(){ ConnectivityManager connMgr = (ConnectivityManager) this.getSystemService(Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE); final android.net.NetworkInfo wifi = connMgr.getNetworkInfo(ConnectivityManager.TYPE_WIFI); final android.net.NetworkInfo mobile = connMgr.getNetworkInfo(ConnectivityManager.TYPE_MOBILE); if( wifi.isAvailable() ){ return true; } else if( mobile.isAvailable() ){ return true; } else { Toast.makeText(this, "Check your internet" , Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); return false; } }

• Why can a public class not inherit from a less visible one?

- by Dan Tao
I apologize if this question has been asked before. I've searched SO somewhat and wasn't able to find it. I'm just curious what the rationale behind this design was/is. Obviously I understand that private/internal members of a base type cannot, nor should they, be exposed through a derived public type. But it seems to my naive thinking that the "hidden" parts could easily remain hidden while some base functionality is still shared and a new interface is exposed publicly. I'm thinking of something along these lines: Assembly X internal class InternalClass { protected virtual void DoSomethingProtected() { // Let's say this method provides some useful functionality. // Its visibility is quite limited (only to derived types in // the same assembly), but at least it's there. } } public class PublicClass : InternalClass { public void DoSomethingPublic() { // Now let's say this method is useful enough that this type // should be public. What's keeping us from leveraging the // base functionality laid out in InternalClass's implementation, // without exposing anything that shouldn't be exposed? } } Assembly Y public class OtherPublicClass : PublicClass { // It seems (again, to my naive mind) that this could work. This class // simply wouldn't be able to "see" any of the methods of InternalClass // from AssemblyX directly. But it could still access the public and // protected members of PublicClass that weren't inherited from // InternalClass. Does this make sense? What am I missing? }

• How to check user input for correct formatting

- by Arcadian
This is what i've come up with so far private void CheckFormatting() { StringReader objReaderf = new StringReader(txtInput.Text); List<String> formatTextList = new List<String>(); do { formatTextList.Add(objReaderf.ReadLine()); } while (objReaderf.Peek() != -1); objReaderf.Close(); for (int i = 0; i < formatTextList.Count; i++) { } } What it is designed to do is check that the user has entered their information in this format Gxx:xx:xx:xx JGxx where "x" can be any integer. As you can see the user inputs their data into a multi-line textbox. i then take that data and enter it into a list. the next part is where i'm stuck. i create a for loop to go through the list line by line, but i guess i will also need to go through each line character by character. How do i do this? or is there a faster way of doing it? thanks in advance

• Stopping a SoundPlayer loop at the local level

- by EvanRyan
I'm working on setting up an alarm that pops up as a dialog with multiple sound file options the user can choose from. The problem I'm having is creating a sound player at the local level that I can close with a button. The problem I'm having is that the sound keeps looping when I close the form because the SoundPlayer doesn't exist within the button click event. here's what I have: void callsound() { if (SoundToggle == 0) // if sound enabled { if ((SoundFile == 0) && (File.Exists(@"attention.wav"))) { System.Media.SoundPlayer alarm = new System.Media.SoundPlayer(@"attention.wav"); alarm.PlayLooping(); } if ((SoundFile == 1) && (File.Exists(@"aahh.wav"))) { System.Media.SoundPlayer alarm = new System.Media.SoundPlayer(@"aahh.wav"); alarm.PlayLooping(); } } private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { //alarm.Stop(); Only works if SoundPlayer declared at class level this.Close(); } Is there a way I can do what I want to do by declaring the SoundPlayer instances where I am? Or is there a way to declare it at the class level, and still be able to change the sound file based on user settings?

• How to defer execution of an Event on each item in a collection until iteration of collection is com

- by Metro Smurf
Of Note: This is more of a curiosity question than anything else. Given a List<Window> where each window has an event attached to the Close Event which removes the window from the collection, how could you use delegates / events to defer the execution of the Close Event until the collection has been iterated? For example: public class Foo { private List<Window> OpenedWindows { get; set; } public Foo() { OpenedWindows = new List<Window>(); } public void AddWindow( Window win ) { win.Closed += OnWindowClosed; OpenedWindows.Add( win ); } void OnWindowClosed( object sender, EventArgs e ) { var win = sender as Window; if( win != null ) { OpenedWindows.Remove( win ); } } void CloseAllWindows() { // obviously will not work because we can't // remove items as we iterate the collection // (the close event removes the window from the collection) OpenedWindows.ForEach( x => x.Close() ); // works fine, but would like to know how to do // this with delegates / events. while( OpenedWindows.Any() ) { OpenedWindows[0].Close(); } } } Specifically, within the CloseAllWindows() method, how could you iterate the collection to call the close event, but defer the event being raised until the collection has been completely iterated?

This method seems stupid and a bit heavy; is there a more optimal way of creating the same thing (its for an MVC View Dropdown) private List<KeyValuePair<int, string>> getMonthListDD { get { var dDur = new List<KeyValuePair<int, string>>(); dDur.Add(new KeyValuePair<int, string>(1, "January")); dDur.Add(new KeyValuePair<int, string>(2, "Febuary")); dDur.Add(new KeyValuePair<int, string>(3, "March")); dDur.Add(new KeyValuePair<int, string>(4, "April")); dDur.Add(new KeyValuePair<int, string>(5, "May")); dDur.Add(new KeyValuePair<int, string>(6, "June")); dDur.Add(new KeyValuePair<int, string>(7, "July")); dDur.Add(new KeyValuePair<int, string>(8, "August")); dDur.Add(new KeyValuePair<int, string>(9, "September")); dDur.Add(new KeyValuePair<int, string>(10, "October")); dDur.Add(new KeyValuePair<int, string>(11, "November")); dDur.Add(new KeyValuePair<int, string>(12, "December")); return dDur; } }

• How to override part of an overload function in JavaScript

- by Guan Yuxin
I create a class with a function like this var Obj=function(){this.children=[];this.parent=null;}//a base class Obj.prototype.index=function(child){ // the index of current obj if(arguments.length==0){ return this.parent?this.parent.index(this):0; } // the index of a child matchs specific obj [to be override] return -1; } basically it is just an overload function composed of index() and index(child). Then I create a sub class,SubObj or whatever, inherits from Obj SubObj.prototype.prototype=Obj; Now, it's time to override the index(child) function,however, index() is also in the function an I don't want to overwrite it too. One solution is to write like this var Obj=function(){this.children=[];this.parent=null;}//a base class Obj.prototype.index=function(child){ // the index of current obj if(arguments.length==0){ return this.parent?this.parent.index(this):0; } // the index of a child matchs specific obj [to be override] return this._index(this); } Obj.prototype._index=function(this){ return -1; } SubObj.prototype._index=function(this){/* overwriteing */} But this will easily mislead other coders as _index(child) should be both private(should not be used except index() function) and public(is an overload function of index(),which is public) you guys have better idea?

• Is there a nice way of having static generic parameters is Java?

- by Chris
Hello, recently I'm writing some functions that I take from Haskell and translate into Java. One of the main problems I have is I cannot easily create a static property with a generic type. Let me explain by a little example... // An interface to implement functions public interface Func<P, R> { public R apply(P p); } // What I want to do... (incorrect in Java) public class ... { public static <T> Func<T, T> identity = new Func<T, T>() { public T apply(T p) { return p; } } } // What I do right now public class ... { private static Func<Object, Object> identity = new Func<Object, Object>() { public Object apply(Object p) { return p; } } @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") public static <T> Func<T, T> getIdentity() { return (Func<T, T>)identity; } } Are there any easier ways to do something like that? What kind of problems might arise if the syntax I used would be valid?
