• How to update all the installed software in Ubuntu without using any PPA?

  I've got many softwares installed. But when the new version is released I'm not getting notified from the application that an update is available. And I found that in most of Ubuntu applications the Update option is not available. I should wait for the next release for an updated version of the software. I've been updating Mozilla using the packages available from their PPA. In ubuntu is there any way to update the softwares without using any PPAs? Please don't recommend Build from source method since I don't like to do all those weird stuff like configuring the things manually etc.

  I want to reduce the saturation of my laptop monitor to the point that it is almost grayscale. That's the goal. Intel and Asus don't have an answer. Asus Splendid and the intel graphics control panel can increase the saturation, but not lower it. I would prefer a software solution, although I DIY'ed a vga grayscale adapter for my desktop. I have an Asus UL30A with an Intel GMA 4500MHD. I know that the latest ATI cards, windotosh's and high end nvidia cards all support control panel desaturation. Why? black and white makes me 3 times more productive.

  I want to use distant tv server with xbmc because it seems to work better then mediaportal. I have tried mediaportal only for 1-2 days but I get already a couple of problems. The Pinnacle software that comes with my usb stick and distant tv server is a superior solution. How can I get it work with xbmc? Or How can I map a remote control key to pctv and a remote control key to xbmc? I want to watch TV and browse my video files?

• X11 not sending windows to remote computer matlab

  I am trying to set up my home desktop, running OS X Mountain Lion, to basically do a bunch of grunt work for me remotely. I have set up ssh, and am able to remotely control the computer fine, but the issue comes in when I try to run X11 apps, like MATLAB, remotely and get windows to pop up. Every time I try to bring up a new window it either opens that window on the remote computer (not the one I am using to control it), or it tells me it can't find a display. here is how I am setting up my ssh assume my matlab alias is set up properly, which it is. ssh -X [email protected] matlab -nodesktop figure; This will open the window on the computer I am SSHing into, and not on the remote one. Basically I want that window to open on the computer I am remoting from. I changed my SSH X11Forwarding and stuff to be yes in ssh_config and sshd_config. Any other suggestions?

I've migrated most of the content from the old Sun wiki site, and got the download in a single handy location on OTN. Download JET now.  The version available is the current latest, which is 4.9.4. This version contains a number of updates, the most significant of which is the ability to specify slot locations instead of the traditional cXtYdZsN nomenclature. This is pretty useful when trying to Jumpstart multiple servers with SAS2.0 based HBAs, as they will have the WWN embedded in the cXtYdZsN name, and it's pretty difficult to guess what that will be until you've booted the server.   Is it possible that Sony is selling a top of the line, hugely expensive computer that does not have the basic ability to rotate an attached monitor? Is it possible that the Z-series simply can't do this? The Windows control panel is missing the normal option for "rotation", as is the Nvidia control panel for "orientation" , no additional rotation software works. Sony sales says they do not know the answer to this. Sony technical supports says that the problem lies with Nvidia, Nvidia technical supports says the problem lies with Sony. Any advice for a fix for this short of returning the computer would be greatly appreciated. Also wondering if this problem is common to computers running Windows 7?

• CSS file not served by IIS 7.5 after multiple clear cache refreshes in a row in browser

  We are experiencing an interesting issue with IIS 7.5 static caching and a css file. When we use IE to hit the page in question everything works fine - 200 OK on css file. When we refresh the page it works fine - 304 Not Modified on css file. When I refresh again with control key it reloads fine - 200 OK on css file. Now if I do a control key + refresh multiple times in a row really fast the css fails to load and in the developer tools network it says "Loading..." for the css file and it hangs never coming back. Any ideas?

  Instead of having to read entire documentation and sift through all the legalese, can someone outline the more common licenses in language that is short and sweet and gets right to the point? Specifically, I'm using a 3rd party control that uses the Apache 2.0 license. My intention is to use this in a proprietary application that I am building for a corporation's use (not resold, but I'm being paid for my work). Does this mean I can or cannot use this control? Does it mean that I must maintain copyright/license information in my code? Does it mean that I must mention copyright/license information in a clearly visible location in the app? EDIT In response to an answer below with a link to an article by Jeff Atwood, the Apache license is described as follows: Apache License Open Permissive 9 Requires derivative works to provide notification of any licensed or proprietary code in a common location. Does this notification need to be in a "common location" in my source code or a common location visible within the app?   I was trying to upgrade to 12.04 LTS, but the upgrade froze in the process (it was stuck for over 8 hours) and I had to do a hard reboot. Now when I boot up, I get the following: mountall /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 version 'glibc_2.14' not found. I'm not sure what I need to do from here. Do I need to go back to the previous version? Or can 12.04 still be installed? I don't want to lose any of my files. I am still new to Linux, so please give detailed step-by-step instructions.

I cant set up custom resolution. When I had Ubuntu 12.04 year ago there was option in Nvidia x server setting called "Add custom resolution" or something like that and it was alright. Now this option is gone. How can I change/add custom resolution?

Now what he wants is that users can get to the content based on the domain e.g. Jhon enters www.domain.com and he gets the english version and Juan enters www.elsenordominio.com to get the spanish version. All content will be validated by php so the users and search engines only reads the domain related language.
