  • How to filter Backbone.js Collection and Rerender App View?

    - by Jeremy H.
    Is is a total Backbone.js noob question. I am working off of the ToDo Backbone.js example trying to build out a fairly simple single app interface. While the todo project is more about user input, this app is more about filtering the data based on the user options (click events). I am completely new to Backbone.js and Mongoose and have been unable to find a good example of what I am trying to do. I have been able to get my api to pull the data from the MongoDB collection and drop it into the Backbone.js collection which renders it in the app. What I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do is filter that data and re-render the app view. I am trying to filter by the "type" field in the document. Here is my script: (I am totally aware of some major refactoring needed, I am just rapid prototyping a concept.) $(function() { window.Job = Backbone.Model.extend({ idAttribute: "_id", defaults: function() { return { attachments: false } } }); window.JobsList = Backbone.Collection.extend({ model: Job, url: '/api/jobs', leads: function() { return this.filter(function(job){ return job.get('type') == "Lead"; }); } }); window.Jobs = new JobsList; window.JobView = Backbone.View.extend({ tagName: "div", className: "item", template: _.template($('#item-template').html()), initialize: function() { this.model.bind('change', this.render, this); this.model.bind('destroy', this.remove, this); }, render: function() { $(this.el).html(this.template(this.model.toJSON())); this.setText(); return this; }, setText: function() { var month=new Array(); month[0]="Jan"; month[1]="Feb"; month[2]="Mar"; month[3]="Apr"; month[4]="May"; month[5]="Jun"; month[6]="Jul"; month[7]="Aug"; month[8]="Sep"; month[9]="Oct"; month[10]="Nov"; month[11]="Dec"; var title = this.model.get('title'); var description = this.model.get('description'); var datemonth = this.model.get('datem'); var dateday = this.model.get('dated'); var jobtype = this.model.get('type'); var jobstatus = this.model.get('status'); var amount = this.model.get('amount'); var paymentstatus = this.model.get('paymentstatus') var type = this.$('.status .jobtype'); var status = this.$('.status .jobstatus'); this.$('.title a').text(title); this.$('.description').text(description); this.$('.date .month').text(month[datemonth]); this.$('.date .day').text(dateday); type.text(jobtype); status.text(jobstatus); if(amount > 0) this.$('.paymentamount').text(amount) if(paymentstatus) this.$('.paymentstatus').text(paymentstatus) if(jobstatus === 'New') { status.addClass('new'); } else if (jobstatus === 'Past Due') { status.addClass('pastdue') }; if(jobtype === 'Lead') { type.addClass('lead'); } else if (jobtype === '') { type.addClass(''); }; }, remove: function() { $(this.el).remove(); }, clear: function() { this.model.destroy(); } }); window.AppView = Backbone.View.extend({ el: $("#main"), events: { "click #leads .highlight" : "filterLeads" }, initialize: function() { Jobs.bind('add', this.addOne, this); Jobs.bind('reset', this.addAll, this); Jobs.bind('all', this.render, this); Jobs.fetch(); }, addOne: function(job) { var view = new JobView({model: job}); this.$("#activitystream").append(view.render().el); }, addAll: function() { Jobs.each(this.addOne); }, filterLeads: function() { // left here, this event fires but i need to figure out how to filter the activity list. } }); window.App = new AppView; });

  • Why does the jQuery on this page work for Internet Explorer 8, but nothing else?

    - by Ben McCormack
    I made a web page that uses jQuery: http://benmccormack.com/demo/MichaelMassPsalm/Psalm16Mode5.html When you change the selection in the combo box from Higher Key to Lower Key, all of the music images are supposed to change their source to be images that represent the lower key signature. This works great in IE8, but it won't work in Safari, Firefox, or Chrome. Why not? Here's the jQuery code that I'm using: $(document).ready(function () { $("#musicKey").change(function (event) { if ($("#musicKey").val() * 1) { $("img[src*='Low'").each(function (index) { $(this).attr("src", $(this).attr("src").replace("Low", "High")); }); } else { $("img[src*='High'").each(function (index) { $(this).attr("src", $(this).attr("src").replace("High", "Low")); }); } }); });

  • How to customize /#/ in Jquery address plugin

    - by Lauren
    Hi, I'm using the Jquery plugin Address to achieve deep linking. The generated urls come out in the format www.example.com/#/tab/image, but what I need is www.example.com/#tab/image. The plugin seems to automatically generate the /#/ part. I wonder does anyone know how to do this? Or even if it's possible? I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks in advance

  • How to catch GMail auto-refresh

    - by nameanyone
    I wrote a userscript to highlight the current row in GMail (indicated by the arrow). Unfortunately the highlight will only stay until GMail Inbox is auto-refreshed, which happens quite often. Is there a way to catch that event so I could reapply the highlighting? I don't want to do it on timeout. There is another userscript that does that and it loads up CPU.

  • Web Page Opinions and Suggestions

    - by MrEnder
    Been working my * off on this for a few days trying to keep updating it to make it most efficient with everything I learn... I'm quite proud of it so far considering I'm not actually the best coder lol most JS and PHP confuses the crap outa me unless I do it from scratch. So anyways here is the link. Tell me what you think. Suggestions would be amazing. I'd love to know what I screwed up as long as you explain in detail as to why and how to fix it. I really hate when people hand me a huge snippet and expect me to understand it -_- Thanks Shelby LINK http://opentech.durhamcollege.ca/~in...rittains/labs/

  • Trying to modify the text of a document onkeydown is inserting text incorrectly.

    - by Benny
    I have the following html: <html> <head> <script> function myKeyDown() { var myDiv = document.getElementById('myDiv'); myDiv.innerHTML = myDiv.innerHTML.replace(/(@[a-z0-9_]+)/gi, '<strong>$1</strong>'); } function init() { document.addEventListener('keydown', myKeyDown, false); document.designMode = "on"; } window.onload = init; </script> </head> <body> <div id="myDiv"> This is my variable name: @varname. If I type here things go wrong... </div> </body> </html> My goal is to do a kind of syntax highlighting on edit, to highlight variable names that begin with an @ symbol. However, when I edit the document's body, the function runs but the cursor is automatically shifted to the beginning of the body before the keystroke is performed. My hypothesis is that the keypress event is trying to insert the new character at a specified index, but when I run the replace function the indices get messed up so it defaults the character insertion point to the beginning. I'm using Firefox to test by the way. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, B.J.

  • Custom Jquery slideshow doesn't want to reset?

    - by Jared
    Hello, Under $(document).ready(function(), I have the following code: num = $("#mainContentCategoryLinksWrapper > div").size(); This makes num equal the length of the children of #mainContentCategoryLinksWrapper. Currently, this equals 4. Above the $(document).ready(function( I have this: var timesRun = 0; function slideshow(){ if(timesRun < num){ $(".arrowIn").stop().animate({color: "#a12324", textIndent: "30px", backgroundPosition: '0px 0px'}, 100, function(){ //the first child in the series has a class of "arrowIn" $(".arrowIn").next().addClass("replaceMe"); //Adds the ".replaceMe" placeholder the the next element. $(".arrowIn").removeClass("arrowIn"); //Deletes the class on the current element $(".replaceMe").addClass("arrowIn").removeClass("replaceMe"); //reassigns ".arrowIn" over ".replaceMe" timesRun = timesRun + 1; //increases number of times run }).prev().animate({color: "#000000", textIndent: "25px", backgroundPosition: '0px -25px'}, {duration: 50}); //puts the previous element back to it's original position }else{ timesRun = 0; $(".arrowIn").removeClass("arrowIn"); $("#mainContentCategoryLinksWrapper:first-child").addClass("arrowIn"); //this is supposed to reset timesRun, and set the first child in the series back to the original ".arrowIn" } } setInterval( 'slideshow()', 1000 ); So here is the what the code does: 1) Animates the first in the series of 4 (#1) timesRun = 1 2) Animates the second in the series of 4 (#2) timesRun = 2 3) Animates the third in the series of 4 (#3) timesRun = 3 4) Animates the fourth in the series of 4 (#4) timesRun = 4 5) timesRun is now longer less than num. Reset class names back to original to .arrowIn, set timesRun to 0. However, when the slideshow() is reexectuted, it doesn't start over. Any ideas? See www.raceramps.com/v3 for an example.

  • Open source / commercial alternative for jiffy.js?

    - by Marcel
    Hi, we'd like to measure "client side web site performance". i.e. we would like to have answers to the following questions: how long did it takt to load and render a webpage (including alle graphics scripts etc.) this bundled with additional informations like user-agent, operating system etc. a graphical tool to analyze the data would be perfect I know jiffy ( http://code.google.com/p/jiffy-web/wiki/Jiffy_js ) but that isn't maintained anymore. I would prefer either a hosted solution (like google analytics) or a java based solution that we deploy for ourselves. Do you know something like that? Thanks, Marc

  • jQuery: Sort div's according to content of different sub divs

    - by rayne
    I'm trying to create a somewhat complex sorting feature which neither uses divs nor lists. Unfortunately two hours of googling didn't help me. Here is the basic setup of my HTML: <div id="all_elements"> <!-- one element --> <div class="element"> <div class="wrapper"> <a href="/" title="links"> <img src="/img/image.jpg" border="0" alt="image" class="image" /></a> <div class="details"> <h3><a href="/" title="title">Name (Sort Argument 1)</a></h3> <div class="title"><a href="/" title="title">Title (Sort Argument 2)</a></div> <div class="year">2010 (Sort Argumentt 3)</div> <div class="country">Great Britain (Sort Argument 4)</div> </div><!-- details --> </div><!-- wrapper --> </div><!-- element --> </div> <!--all_elements--> The setup is a bit complex, but basically .element is the element that needs to be sorted alphabetically according to either the contents of h3, div.title, div.year or div.country. So the user will be able to view the contents of the site either sorted by name, by year, by country or by title. I have this jQuery snippet from a website, but all my attempts on trying to tell it to use the contents of e.g. h3 to sort have failed. Right now it sorts pretty much randomly. jQuery.fn.sort = function() { return this.pushStack([].sort.apply(this, arguments), []); }; function sortAscending(a, b) { return a.innerHTML > b.innerHTML ? 1 : -1; }; function sortDescending(a, b) { return a.innerHTML < b.innerHTML ? 1 : -1; }; $(document).ready(function() { $("#sort").toggle( function() { $('#all_elements .element').sort(sortDescending).appendTo('#all_elements'); $(this).text("Sort Asc"); }, function() { $('#all_elements .element').sort(sortAscending).appendTo('#all_elements'); $(this).text("Sort Desc"); }); }); How can I customize the function to sort the contents of my h3 or divs?

  • Using max-width = 100% and max-height = 100% on an image, calculate the display width/height

    - by NatalieMac
    I am creating a slideshow for images of various sizes to display centered vertically and horizontally within a canvas area. In my CSS, I set the width and height of the image to 100% so that each image would proportionally fill the canvas. I want the canvas to auto-size itself to fit within the viewer's screensize as the original size of the images is quite large (up to 800 pixels tall). I am using jQuery 1.4, and using the height of the image to calculate the top value for absolute positioning it to the middle of the canvas. I have tried using jQuery to get the .height(), innerHeight(), and outerHeight(), but it always gets the full size of the image. I extracted the DOM element from the jQuery object and tried using .width, .offsetWidth, and .clientWidth, but that too always seems to return the full size of the image. Firebug displays the correct dimensions, so I know there's some way of calculating the actual display height of the image, I just can't figure out what it is. How do you get the actual display height of an image if you've set max-height = 100%? I didn't want to have to calculate and set the height of each image in the js, but if I have to, I will. It just seems like I should be able to set the canvas size and have the images auto-adjust.

  • jQuery Collapse (with cookies), default open instead of closed?

    - by Christian
    Hi. I've got a jQuery snippet which basically allows a user to toggle a div, open or closed - their preference is saved in a cookie. (function($) { $.fn.extend({ collapse: function(options) { var defaults = { inactive : "inactive", active : "active", head : ".trigger", group : ".wrap-me-up", speed : 300, cookie : "collapse" }; // Set a cookie counter so we dont get name collisions var op = $.extend(defaults, options); cookie_counter = 0; return this.each(function() { // Increment cookie name counter cookie_counter++; var obj = $(this), sections = obj.find(op.head).addClass(op.inactive), panel = obj.find(op.group).hide(), l = sections.length, cookie = op.cookie + "_" + cookie_counter; // Look for existing cookies for (c=0;c<=l;c++) { var cvalue = $.cookie(cookie + c); if ( cvalue == 'open' + c ) { panel.eq(c).show(); panel.eq(c).prev().removeClass(op.inactive).addClass(op.active); }; }; sections.click(function(e) { e.preventDefault(); var num = sections.index(this); var cookieName = cookie + num; var ul = $(this).next(op.group); // If item is open, slide up if($(this).hasClass(op.active)) { ul.slideUp(op.speed); $(this).removeClass(op.active).addClass(op.inactive); $.cookie(cookieName, null, { path: '/', expires: 10 }); return } // Else slide down ul.slideDown(op.speed); $(this).addClass(op.active).removeClass(op.inactive); var cookieValue = 'open' + num; $.cookie(cookieName, cookieValue, { path: '/', expires: 10 }); }); }); } }); })(jQuery); Demo: http://christianbullock.com/demo/ I'm just wondering how I can display the list open as default, and have the div collapse when the header is clicked? Many thanks. Christian.

    - by Tim
    If you don't care about minifying your code, is there a way to get started using the Google Closure library without having to set up a subversion client and use the compiler? The Notepad sample program on Google's website refers to <script src="closure-library/base.js" > </script > Can you simply download closure-library/base.js somewhere and start playing with the UI examples? The Closure Lite quick-start version doesn't appear to include goog.ui

  • Select list auto update on any kind of change?

    I have a jQuery that when you click on a select option it will show the next one, but you have to click, you cant just use the down arrow or "tab" to the next option. • ajax response byte size

    - by Alex Pacurar
    Im using jQuery's getJSONP and I want to log the duration of the call and the size of the response to be able to have some statistics about the usage of my application. This is a cross domain ajax call, so I need to use JSONP, but as the JSONP call is not done with an XMLHttpRequest object, the complete callback from jquery's ajax doesnt pass the response content. So my question is how to get the response size (content lenght) from a JSONP call. $.ajaxSetup( { complete:function(x,e) { log(x.responseText.length, x.responseText); } } here x is a XMLHttpRequest object for a JSON call , but for JSONP call is undefined.

  • Are there any pitfalls to var something = something || {}

    - by puk
    I came across this answer where the poster suggested that the shorthand for if(typeof MyNamespace === 'undefined'){ var MyNamespace = {}; } is var MyNamespace = MyNamespace || {}; Would veteran programmers recommend the latter to simplify the code, or does it overly complicate things, like abusing ++ or -- in complex compound statements? EDIT The reason I asked is b/c a while back someone inspired me by pointing out that a lot of the people who think they are expert programmers make a lot of beginners mistakes. The case at the time was if (isReady){ //Do Something } And what he was saying is that a condition should mean something, isReady doesn't 'mean' anything, instead, we should use if (isReady === true){ //Do Something }

  • Correct usage of addEventListener() /attachEvent()?

  • Client/JS Framework for "Unsaved Data" Protection?

    - by Kevin Dostalek
    Hey all- we have a typical web application that is essentially a data entry application with lots of screens some of which have some degree of complexity. We need to provide that standard capability on making sure if the user forgets to click the "Save" button before navigating away or closing their browser they get a warning and can cancel (but only when there is unsaved or dirty data). I know the basics of what I've got to do-- in fact I'm sure I've done it all before over the years (tie in to onbeforeunload, track the "dirty" state of the page, etc...) but before I embark on coding this YET AGAIN, does anyone have some suggestions for libraries already out there (free or otherwise) that will help out? Thanks!

  • Jquery mouseover event issues

    - by Shaun
    Hi I am currently working on a project where I am using jQuery to animate a block of text on mouse over. The event listener is on the containing div (as shown by the code below) and works really well until the mouse is over the title (.views-field-title) which is absolutely above the containing div. The animation begins to jump almost as though it is starting over? What am I doing wrong? $('#interior_design .views-row').mouseover(function(){ $('.views-field-title', this).stop(true, true).animate( { height: '+=10px' }, { duration: 'fast'}); }); $('#interior_design .views-row').mouseout(function(){ $('.views-field-title', this).stop(true, true).animate( { height: '-=10px' }, { duration: 'fast'}); }); Link to dev server: http://viva.bangtest.co.uk/interior-design Note: this site is still in development as such the jQuery is only on the above linked page currently. I'm open to all suggestions.

Everything but the most simple tables take way to long to write. Are there any specialized table editing tools for the browser out there?
