• Intermittent issue - IIS offering to donwload ASPX file instead of executing

  We're getting an intermittent problem with the homepage of our site when IIS will suddenly start offering to download the ASPX file instead of executing it. It happens about once a month, on a random basis. If I open the file in Notepad and re-save it (without making a single change to the code), IIS starts executing the script as normal and doesn't offer the download any more. I can't get my head round this, considering that we can't reproduce the problem. Also, I can't really play with it and test anything when the problem occurs as this is the homepage of the site and needs fixing asap. Any ideas what could be causing this? Files are written to the server over Filezilla FTP. Looks like the homepage is the only page affected. Server is Windows Server 2003, IIS 6.0 with all the latest patches (we actually run two of them, load balanced, and the problem can occur on either server on a random basis). Can't see anything in the Event logs or IIS log.

• jQuery plugin .fn question

  Hello, I seem to be having some problems creating a jquery plugin. I am testing a simple plugin in firebug console and the function is not being defined as I would expect. Here is the code pattern I am using jQuery.fn.test = function () {console.log("runs")} I am trying to call the function with this call which is not working. $.test() But this call does $.fn.test() I don't think this is how it is supposed to work so I think I am doing something wrong, although all the documentation seems to agree that I should be correct. • Publishing my WCF Service to my webhotel provider

  I have made a small log service that i want to publish to a subdomain on my webhotel. I make the wcf service and test it locally - no problem. I then go to the [Build] menu and choose [Publish], type in my FTP location and publishes it to the location. No problems. The problem arise when i need to use it, i try to navigate to the .svc file but gets this error: This collection already contains an address with scheme http. There can be at most one address per scheme in this collection. Parameter name: item What am I doing wrong?

  My app is forced to use a 3rd party module which will blue-screen Windows if two instances are started at the same time on the same machine. To work around the issue, my C# app has a mutex: static Mutex mutex = new Mutex(true, "{MyApp_b9d19f99-b83e-4755-9b11-d204dbd6d096}"); And I check if it's present - and if so I show an error message and close the app: bool IsAnotherInstanceRunning() { if (mutex.WaitOne(TimeSpan.Zero, true)) return (true); else return (false); } The problem is if two users can log in and open the application at the same time, and IsAnotherInstanceRunning() will return false. How do I get around this?

• How can I make a security token automatically expire in a passive STS setup?

  I have a passive STS set up for a new application I'm working on. I've noticed that when a user's session expires, the user is still authenticated. I would have thought that when the session expires, the user would no longer be authenticated. My boss discussed this with me as I am currently charged with setting up the authentication. He says that it would be good if we could make the user's log on expire after a certain period of inactivity similar to how the session expires. I am familiar with how to sign a user out with a few lines of code. How can I make it so that the user is automatically signed out after a specified period of inactivity? Currently, I have some code in the global.asax file that programmatically checks when the last request was and compares it to the current time; it then signs the user out if a certain period of time has expired.

• cant start glassfish within netbeans

  when i click on Run it displays and error message: Starting GlassFish v3 Domain GlassFish v3 Domain start failed. /Volumes/Private/noname/Sites/projects/java/MyFirstServlet/nbproject/build-impl.xml:602: Deployment error: GlassFish v3 Domain start failed. See the server log for details. BUILD FAILED (total time: 2 minutes 0 seconds) but then i fire up Terminal in mac and use asadmin start-domain and it starts. and in netbeans i then Run the project and it fires up Safari and displays the content. but why cant glassfish start in netbeans? any idea?

  Hello. I'm looking into a possible feature for my little to-do application... I like the idea that I can send an email to a particular email address, containing a to-do task I need to complete, and this will be read by my web application and be put in the database... So, when I come to log into my application, the to-do task I emailed will be there as a entry in the app. Is this possible? I have a slice with SliceHost (basically a dedicated server) so I have total control on what to install etc. I'm using Python/Django/MySQL for this. Any ideas on what steps to take to make this happen?

• Scheduled task username changed

  Hi, I created a user on our exchange server, but later changed the username. Now, when I create a scheduled task for that user, and change it's settings (run only when logged on), the username is automatically changed back to the old username. What's causing this and how do I make sure the correct, new username is used for the task (otherwise it won't run), security settings are okay. I did already log in with a different user to delete the profile on the computer and tried again with this user to no avail. The OS is windows xp, the exchange server is on windows server 2003.   Hi, I have an application consisting of a host and pluggable modules (plugins). I want to be able to configure log4net for the host and for each of the other modules. Each of them should have its own configuration file and each will log to a different file. Only the host has an App.config file. The plugins have their own config file containing the log4net config sections. Calling XmlConfigurator.Configure from one of the plugins overrides the host's app.config log4net definitions. Is there an easy way to append configurations instead of overriding them? Thanks, Gai.

  My python script uses subprocess to call a linux utility that is very noisy. I want to store all of the output to a log file, but only show some of it to the user.   Hello, I'm writing several C programs for an embedded system where every bit of performance we can squeeze out will matter. Part of that is accessing log files. When determining if a file exists, is there any performance difference between using open / fopen, and stat ? I've been using stat on the assumption that it only has to do a quick check against the file system, whereas fopen would have to actually gain access to a file and manipulate internal data structures before returning. Is there any merit to this ?

  I am currently developing a GWT 2.1 application that is to be deployed on Google App Engine. I would like to realise the server communication using the new RequestFactory. Now my question is how to handle fine-grained security issues in this context? Some server actions (of those declared in the RequestContext stubs) shall be restricted to certain users (possibly depending on the parameters of the remote call). If a call is unauthorised, I would like the client to show a login page (so that one may log in as a different user, for example). From the Expenses example, I know how to implement an automatic redirection to a login page, but in this example, the security model is quite simple: A client is allowed to access the servlet if and only if a user is logged in. Shall I raise a custom UnAuthorizedException in my server-side service? Where should I intercept this exception? (Can I do this in a servlet filter like the GaeAuthFilter of the Expenses example?)

  In SQL, it is obvious that whenever we want to do a search on millions of record, say CustomerID in a Transactios table, then we want to add an index for CustomerID. Is another situation we want to add an index to a field when we need to do inner join or outer join using that field as a criteria? Such as Inner join on t1.custumerID = t2.customerID. Then if we don't have an index on customerID on both tables, we are looking at O(n^2) because we need to loop through the 2 tables sequentially. If we have index on customerID on both tables, then it becomes O( (log n) ^ 2 ) and it is much faster. Any other situation where we want to add an index to a field in a table? What about adding index for 2 fields combined in a table. That is, one index, for 2 fields together?

  I am trying to redirect everything to a single page from my /website/folder/ directory. I added a simple .htaccess with this simple code (I know this would require more code in .htaccess but it's just a test). RewriteEngine on RewriteRule .* index.php [NC,L] When I try : http://127.0.0.1:8888/website/folder/fileDoesntExistMustGoIndex I have an "Object not found 404" error and the access.log display: 127.0.0.1 - - [13/Mar/2010:13:48:31 -0500] "GET /website/folder/fileDoesntExistMustGoIndexHTTP/1.1" 404 1118 I have check the httpd.conf and I see nothing that could alter this .htaccess statement. Any idea?

  Hi, I have ELMAH set up for a webapp, logging exceptions to a SQL server. I wish to have ELMAH send me an email too, but only when a specific exception is thrown (ie. MySpecialException). ELMAH must still log all exceptions to SQL server. I know you can do it programmatically in global.asax, but I'd prefer to use web.config. So, how do I restrict ELMAH error mails to filter out everything but a specific exception type, using web.config?

  Hello, I've downloaded Eclipse Classic 3.5 Galileo, the last version of Android SDK, downloaded and installed Eclipse Android 1.6 platform. I've created first (and the only) AVD with Android 1.6 and the default skin. The log may show more: I've filtered only neccessary messages (warnings, errors). -http://www.clipboard.cz/63c As you can see, my new AVD has started in 16:17 and it was still loading in 17:35...   Hi, I would like to know if anyone has info or experience on how to do something which sounds simple but doesn't look like it when trying to program it. The idea is : give a string containing an equation, such as : "2*x = 10" for example (this is simple, but it could get very complex, such as sqrt(54)*35=x^2; and so on....) and the program would return x = 5 and possibly give a log of how he got there. Is this doable ? If so, does anyone have a lead ? For info there is this site (http://www.numberempire.com/equationsolver.php) which does the same thing in PHP, but isn't open source. • Symbol info in .app file

  Hi, i've recently released an app to the App store, i went to have a look at some crash logs in Organiser of my app downloaded from the app store and noticed that there is symbol info in my crash log - Shock Horror I definitely remember setting some strip symbols flags when i built the distribution build (which was copied from release) so can't for the life of me work out how there is this symbol info there. I never shipped a .SYM file to apple just the .app. So whats going on. Surely apple would have warned me about this wouldn't they??
