• Ubuntu karmic 9.10 Live image on USB - not working.

  This is my configuration 4GB pendrive, HP ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386 image file for live USB install pendrivelinux (u910p) and ubetbootin (unetbootin.sourceforge.net) machine T61 Earlier I have installed ubuntu live image using above two mentioned utilities, numerous times. But, on a 2gb kingston flash-drive. Today, i am trying to install the live-image on 4gb HP flash-drive. Both the utilities install, i can see the files in the drive, even the wubi-installer is working, it say press "reboot" to boot in live-ubuntu. But, when i press "reboot" it does not reboot my win7. Now, when i reboot, select boot-usb in bios, it say "no boot record". I am making my usb bootable, using the utility, even then nothing is working out. Did this a few times. Is 4GB usb a prob, does anyone knows how to partition my usb in 2-2gb and install it on one partition, and then use the live image. Is it possible.

  I've seen a lot of tutorials showing one how to set up PHP/Python/Perl/RoR on nginx via various FCGI processes. None of the tutorials that I found show one how to serve multiple FCGI services off one server. How would one configure the stable nginx (nginx-0.7.64) to serve multiple FCGI processes (one for each of the above languages)? Example addresses for each FCGI process are as follows: 127.0.0.1:8080 - PHP 127.0.0.1:8081 - Python 127.0.0.1:8082 - Perl 127.0.0.1:8083 - Ruby on Rails An example configuration file that shows one how to implement multiple FCGI's off one server is really what I need. Perhaps others will benefit as well.

• Haproxy Slow Reload in DB Mode

  Recently I started using great tool for load balancing - Haproxy. There is only one disturbing thing that I cannot figure out how to deal with it. We use haproxy for load balancing mysql traffic. When there is a lot of traffic and many connection it takes ages for haproxy to reload (~ 30 min), with less traffic it doest reload within 1 min. I do reload with: service haproxy reload Of course if I need to do an urgent change in configuration I expect haproxy to do reload very fast. Killing haproxy instances waiting for disconnection causes to disconnection of msyql connections. It looks like that I made mistake in settings of haproxy or in settings of application. If you know how to solve this please help me. Thanks!

• Getting BootMgr not found errors repeatedly on Win7 x64

  So here is the basic configuration of the box: Primary RAID 1 (Mirror, Bootable): 2x 300GB WD SATA drives AMD Phenom Quad Core x64 @2.2 ASUS M3N78 Pro Board 4GB RAM Win 7 Ultimate Additionally, this box is a Host OS for several CentOS Boxes via VirtualBox. The box runs like a champ but, for whatever reason, everytime I restart the machine I get a BootMgr not found error when the box tries to boot. I pop in my Win DVD, select 'Repair Windows' then 'Fix Start Up Problems' and everything works fine...once. When I restart the box again I have to go back through this process. Any ideas on what is going on?

• Running IPv4 program in IPv6 network

  I have an IPv4 windows client program and IPv4 Linux server. What I need is to run them in pure IPv6 network, although machines have dual stack. At the beginning I thought it's not a problem: I'll use 4in6 protocol (rfc2473) and that's all. I found a simple guide for Linux configuration here, but when I started to configuring windows 7, I couldn't find how to do it. There are plenty of info on how to tunnel IPv6 over IPv4 (6in4, Teredo) but not an opposite. Does anyone know how to do it? Thank you.

Servers {GE 0/1} + --- + [Cisco Switch] + ... Servers My questions are, Since I'm using both GE 0/0 and GE 0/1 ports to connect to switch, how can I connect my Linux Firewall (Port fxp1) to my Cisco Router? I know the USB and Console port are for configuration, can I use AUX port to connect my firewall (if so is it consider a right way)? • Are Windows partitions gone?

  I had Windows 7 on my laptop (factory setting), because of some performance issues, I decided to use recovery options to restore it to its factory condition but I don't know what has happened or what I have done that the whole operating system was gone after playing around with recovery options from the boot menu. I couldn't find Windows, so I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my laptop. Last time I had Ubuntu on it, it was not really compatible with laptop's configuration and I had a bit of problems trying to do normal tasks I used to do on Windows. Now I want to make sure that Windows and its drivers are gone so that I can try to install a newer version of Ubuntu or Windows. • Websphere 7: Getting 'Internal Server Error' when accessing JSPs. Servlets ok

  I have just installed WS 7 on our stage server. The test server was done some months ago. I have deployed the same applications to stage as on test. One application is causing me problems. I call the login servlet but the result is an 'Internal Server Error' message. From my logs I can see that the servlet processed the log in successfully and redirects to a JSP. That is the last message. I can find no further info in any of the other standard out/err logs. I have tried creating a simple JSP containing only HTML - same error. If I rename the file to test.html, it displays correctly. The plugin configuration appears to be identical with the one on the test server (where everything works) Ideas anyone?

• Trying to move away from PHP/Yii: RoR, Python/Django or ASP.NET MVC? Your opinions please [closed]

  I have a CS degree and I've been working as a web developer (front & backend) for about 2 years now. I've been working with PHP mostly because it was easy to pick up and find a job, but I've grown to dislike the language and want to try something new, and possibly get a better paying job. That last point is especially important because in my area (Romania/Eastern Europe) PHP jobs are mostly for people fresh out of college/high school, hence the pay is rather low. I've been working with the Yii framework which, if I understand correctly, borrows a lot from Ruby on Rails (convention over configuration, MVC, Active Record, scaffolding). Other than PHP I only know curly-brace languages (C/C++/Java) and bash so Python/Ruby might be a bit challenging. On the other hand I've been using Linux (with vim and recently Sublime Text 2) for almost 4 years now so Windows and a lack of a terminal would have its downsides as well. I'm leaning towards Python/Ruby because of my *nix bias (plus both look like fun), but I've heard great things about ASP.NET MVC as well. Any suggestions? PS: I think there are more jobs in ASP.NET around here, but that's not necessarily a plus, because there are a lot of CS graduates as well. tl;dr: Romanian PHP/Yii developer trying to move to Python/Django or Ruby/Rails or C#/ASP.NET MVC. Suggestions?

• Grub2 won't detect Ubuntu 11.10 OS after reinstalling Win XP hal.dll.

  Hi I'm an Ubuntu newbie here. I've installed ubuntu 11.10 to dual boot on a single HDD. I did a manual partition and basically forgot all the on what sda my /boot partition is. My installation worked out just fine and I tried to install updates with it. After a while I when I wanted to boot to windows it showed that I was missing a "hal.dll" file. I've fixed this problem using the windows resource CD but then after booting up my PC it went straight to Windows XP. I've tried to manually reinstall Grub2 using a Live CD/USB and it worked but I think I have installed in on a different "sda#" (sda5 to be exact) because even though Grub2 loads when I boot my PC, only windows XP shows up as my OS and Ubuntu 11.10 is missing. Now, I've tried installing boot-repair to solve my problems using Live CD/USB. Boot-repair tells me that boot configuration was successful but then a basic grub interface shows up (the black one with a command line grub showing up. Now I can't even boot to Windows XP. Any help would be really appreciated. BTW here's the notes from boot repair that I was asked to save: http://paste.ubuntu.com/890228/ As you can see there are boot files on sda5 and sda7. I think that's the core problem that I have right now. Thanks in advance!

• Ubuntu 12.04 resolution stuck on 640x480

  I am new to Ubuntu and I was trying to get my HDMI enabled TV to work with my Ubuntu 12.04 computer and I installed a Nvidia driver using the "additional drivers" program. After that didn't work, I started playing around with the dual booted windows 7 on my computer. Now, I've never used that windows since I installed it so I was stripped down to bare minimum so I tried to adjust the resolution(as it was on lowest resolution) and tried to connect the HDMI, which didn't work. After that I came back to my Ubuntu installation only to find out that it is now stuck on 640x480 resolution. I tried to remove the driver that I installed again using the "additional drivers" program but that didn't help at all. The error that showed up was - Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors none of the selected modes were compatible with the possible modes: Trying modes for CRTC 63 CRTC 63: trying mode 640x480@60Hz with output at 1366x768@60Hz (pass 0) CRTC 63: trying mode 640x480@60Hz with output at 1366x768@60Hz (pass 1) Trying modes for CRTC 64 CRTC 64: trying mode 640x480@60Hz with output at 1366x768@60Hz (pass 0) CRTC 64: trying mode 640x480@60Hz with output at 1366x768@60Hz (pass 1) Any help would be appreciated as this is very annoying. Does anyone know of any sample configuration I could get this started on? Is there a good autoresponder for sendmail? Our emails are hosted on Office365 and it does not allow us to run scripts. Therefore I was considering this option. Is this viable? Please refer to the diagram for more information. Thank you.

• FreePBX: Asterisk in the Cloud (EC2) Audio Problems

  Please pardon the newbie question, but I can't seem to figure this out. I followed the Voxilla's tut to the tee: http://voxilla.com/2009/10/15/voxill...p-by-step-1457 But in making calls, my softphones connect, yet no audio (in either direction). I know from poking around the forums that this is generally caused by two factors: NAT and audio codecs. I (being new to the arena), however, don't know which. I believe I have Asterisk and the clients restricted to just ulaw, and I also believe I have the correct ports open, and my externip set correctly (I think the Voxilla AMI does this automatically, since it's in the cloud). I'm a bit lost. I'd be happy to post whatever configuration files that might help, provided you tell me where they are on the filesystem. But like I said before, this is effectively a vanilla install of Voxilla's own FreePBX AMI. I'd appreciate any help or guidance here. Thanks!

• What to do when 'dpkg --configure -a' fails with too many errors?

  During an upgrade from lucid (10.04) to precise (12.04), the X session froze, and I have been trying to recover the upgrade to get a stable system. I have performed the following steps: Used ssh to log in to the stalled system over the network. Checked the contents of the /var/log/dist-upgrade directory. There was no activity on main.log, apt.log or term.log. top showed that process 'precise' was using about 3% CPU, but I could find no evidence that the upgrade process was still doing anything. 'dpkg' did not show up in top, but it came up with pgrep dpkg | xargs ps Killed the 'dpkg' and 'precise' processes Tried to recover the upgrade by running sudo fuser -vki /var/lib/dpkg/lock;sudo dpkg --configure -a. This was partially successful (some packages were configured), but failed with the message Processing was halted because there were too many errors. I ran the same command a few times, and each time some packages were configured but others failed. Tried running sudo apt-get -f install. It fails with similar errors to dpkg. The current situation is that dpkg --configure -a and sudo apt-get -f install fails with two kinds of error: Dependency issues, e.g.: dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of cifs-utils: cifs-utils depends on samba-common; however: Package samba-common is not configured yet. dpkg: error processing cifs-utils (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured Resource conflict, e.g.: debconf: DbDriver "config": /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by another process: Resource temporarily unavailable Additionally, it seems there's reference to potential boot problems, so I'm not keen to reboot without fixing the install first: dpkg: too many errors, stopping Processing triggers for initramfs-tools ... update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.2.0-25-generic cryptsetup: WARNING: failed to detect canonical device of /dev/sda1 cryptsetup: WARNING: could not determine root device from /etc/fstab So my question is, how to get a working install when dpkg --configure -a fails?

• Text on Cisco ASA console is garbled/missing letters

  I've actually looked up a number of solutions for this problem and none of them work. There's this Cisco ASA 5505 that I'd like to use, that outputs mildly garbled text with missing characters. I did some googling and found that the most likely problem is a bad baud rate, so I tried all the baud rates, 7N1, 8N2... basically every possibility minicom had. Then I figured (since I can type ok, just not read) that if I factory reset it that it would fix whatever is set wrong with the terminal. That didn't work either. This usb-db9 adapter and console cable work fine on the catalyst switch in our office. My serial settings are 9600 8N1 with no flow control. Anyone know how to fix this? • Setting up Mac VPN on simple network with separate IPs

  Hi there, We have a pretty simple network configuration. A typical ASDL line with two extra IP addresses. We have a basic home network router Dlink DIR-655. We have two Mac OS X Snow Leopard Servers that we want to setup VPN on. The problem is that we can't change the ports which VPN works under ie. we can only setup port forwarding for UDP 500,1701,4500 to a single server. I'm wondering how we can cost effectively re-work our network so that we can take advantage of the separate IP addresses and have both VPNs working with the same router. Is that possible with our current hardware setup or do we need something more powerful? We're also toying with Mobile Access and wondering if that might be easier to setup. Expert help is greatly appreciated.

You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver.   I have about 70 pc's with exactly same hardware. I decided to automate turning on and off. I took 1 PC. Here is what I've done: Changed bios configuration so that now pc's waking when I turn on AC switch Installed Windows XP and configured so that I can turn off remotelly, changed workgroup name to "WG1", and pc name to "ExamPC" Then created acronis backup image of this pc I installed this image in several PC's and tried to test All worked well till windows opened. The problem is, all tested PC's started Windows nearly at the same time, and all of them popped up error Duplicate name exist. I can't figure out any solution. Any suggestions?

• Installing a fake microphone on Windows Server.

  My application, that is running on Windows Server (which is an instance on Amazon EC2) requires Skype to be able to make phone calls. The server, of course, does not have a microphone installed and I don't need it to have one, because my application changes the input source to a wav file when the call is established. However, Skype has a strict rule that a microphone must be installed for a call to be made. Thus I want to install a fake microphone that will trick Skype's configuration. So far, I was able to start and run the Windows Sound service, which enabled all of the sound settings. Any ideas are very welcome!

  We are students and we have to make a project by using SharePoint. We have already learned the basic steps of SharePoint 2010 but now we have some problems with using the Active Directory. We've deleted SharePoint from the server and afterwards we've installed the AD-role and finished dcpromo. When we’ve reinstalled SharePoint 2010, we have some problems in the configuration of SharePoint. It automatically ask for a Databaseserver but we don't have one in the company of our project. My question is if there is any possibility to use SharePoint with AD and without a Databaseserver. If it is possible it would be nice to tell me how.
